I reallllly like this place. My friend and I walked past it several times, and since there are no windows, I thought it was a strip club. NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT, we were just looking for a bar! :) Well, it is not what we thought -- it's a dancefloor/bar downstairs, and upstairs is a classy-looking cocktail bar. My spot! I can't believe I haven't written a review of this place yet... this is my Logan Square go-to. Never paid a cover here, they have a coat-check, skee ball, and there's always a DJ here with good music. I always run into friends here because this is just a staple for the area. The spot "everyone" goes to. And it's super laid back, so wearing jeans isn't frowned upon. You don't have to dress up or pay a ton of money to have fun here. A large group of us tried this place around 9ish on a Friday night. Short line but had to wait for people to leave due to full capacity. Upon entering it is dimly lit but creates a cool scene. 8$ cocktail was NOT worth it. Minimal booze and extra extra lime juice. The "dance-proof" bottle was not worth it either. Went on a Saturday night. Our friend was having a get together here for birthday, we had never been there. We arrived around 11:30pm and waited about 1 hour until we got in. It was crowded and very humid but what's a party without a crowd. The bartenders were nice and surprisingly fast considering it was packed! The drinks were good, fairly priced, and good quality. Decided to check this place out with a girlfriend after seeing a huge line the previous night. Thankfully when we went on a weekday I believe there was no line. The downstairs is awesome, love the Christmas lights, friendly bartenders and a delicious Moscow Mule. Upstairs is totally different. Until Saturday night, there were very few things that could overshadow good music and a dance party when evaluating a night out. Slippery Slope does always seem to bring in the best DJs. What they are also easily welcoming in through their doors, repeatedly, is scheming phone thieves. Both my friend and I had our phones taken from inside our purses in different spots, at different times, in the bar. Mine was when I was on the dance floor getting ready to leave and putting on my coat. The exact moment my hands were not over my cross body purse, which was around my shoulder at that time, I felt a little tug and my purse flap was no longer closed. My phone was gone within seconds. Very close to me, in the same facility but among the hundreds of people in the overcrowded bar with no light and dark music. My friend was at the bar and leaning over to buy a drink when hers was taken in the same manner. No one deserves to have their phone get stolen, even people who are extremely drunk or careless and leave their stuff on a counter somewhere. But the fact we both had our phones removed from our bags on our bodies, while very with it, is violating and good evidence this person(s) has been successfully taking advantage of patrons at Slippery Slope for quite some time. My favorite place ever!!! This place is like stepping into a 70's disco. Oh my gosh. I love everything about it!!! The drinks are cheap, the place is decorated sooo cool, and the music they play especially on Saturday nights, is stuff you will remember (Michael Jackson hits, 90s hits, early 2000's throwbacks) it's just a fun fun time. I'm not sure where to start, but the "muscle" at this club is completely out of line. I attended an evening at this "club." Upon my exit, I saw an individual sitting atop my car. I asked that person to get down very kindly (I swear). I asked again sort of motioning after this individual did not. I finally a third time put my hand near them and was like c'mon sir. This was an extremely large individual, and I was vastly intimidated. He pushed me at this point, telling me off about I was completely out of line (again an individual was sitting on top of my car). Where does Slippery Slope figure into this? Once this person got down, they became very physical with me. The bouncers of the club, two of them, pushed me around...because they were friends with this individual. Cursed at me, told me to get the f*** away from their club. Because I asked someone to get off my car... I don't know about you all, but this is pathetic. Any institution that supports this behavior and/or hires anyone that would behave in this way is not a place I am interested in attending. I will never attend again, and you shouldn't either. Inside it isn't that great, and they have hired clearly people that they given a license to buddy up and intimidate that are simply doing nothing wrong. The ownership should be completely embarrased by this incident, and they are very lucky I am not seeking legal action against them. read more

Came on a Saturday night with a girlfriend and man, it was fun! The atmosphere reminded us of college parties, which is consistent with other people describing the environment like that of a frat party. The line may get long, but it generally moves quickly. We waited about 10 minutes for a line that seemed like it would take much longer, so don't be deterred by the wait. They play a mix of pop, rap, hip hop, and throw back songs, so there's a good variety. However, the line for drinks on the first floor can take FOREVER, but there's another story which is usually not as busy. The whole place had a red light hue, which adds to the fratty feel, and I swear the dance floor is twice as hot as the rest of the area (there is a tangible dramatic temperature difference as you enter the dancing area). I didn't have a problem waiting the 45 minutes in line to get in (Saturday night 1/31). I did however have problem with the coat check attendant who was clinging to what little power he had tighter than a hungry baby clinging to his mothers breast . My friends and I approached the counter and asked to check in our coats, he responded that he was at max capacity, even though there were empty hangers in plain sight. He advised us to check in later. Our table happened to be the closest to the coat check and we could see him check other coats after telling us that he was at max capacity. So I thought fine, he just wants money, again understanable ( not really, but I get it). So I went back up there and tried to give him $10 to check in 3 coats. His response, "$10 is not really a lot of money for 3 coats, $20 and I could check them in" really? I'm pretty sure the bar is providing the coat check as a complimentary service, not for you to gouge their customers. We all closed our tabs and left immediately. None of us will ever go back. By far, my favorite bar in Chicago. So so so many reasons I love this place so let me just list them all. (1) There's a lady that sells the best hot dogs/kielbasa in Chicago right outside slippery slope, most often while you're waiting in line to get in. Bring some cash and be ready to devour. (2) The vibe/ambiance is amazing. The dim red lighting is comforting, especially when the drinks keep coming. (3) The drinks. Every time i've gone, there have been new drinks I haven't tried on the board for a great price. I will never break the bank but still can enjoy a couple of drinks. (4) The music. Good god the music. I'm not sure if it's the same DJ every time or if they find multiple amazing ones consistently but the music is ALWAYS fantastic. Great mix of throw backs, current hits and everything/anything that gets the crowd screaming and jumping. (5) Dance floor. It's packed but it's fun. I've seen grown men breaking it down to Taylor Swift and I've also seen pro dancers showing off what they know. It's a ball (6) The crowd. It's so diverse!! It's not hipster, it's not elite, it's not too young, it's not too old. In my experience, it's always been a good random crowd. Bonus: There's another bar upstairs with a totally different ambiance. A lot more chill and there's tables to sit at and sip your drinks. In all honesty I've had a few too many every time I've gone up there so I can't provide much more details. read more

The thing that I love most about this place is that something ridiculously fun or awesome always happens here. Now, I don't know if it's just for me, and this is my lucky spot or something, but swear to God, I have gone there 5 times now and always have a great story to tell after. Besides that intangible, the GOOD: the drinks are absurdly cheap for Chicago (wells $5, blueberry beer which is delicious at $4), the bartenders are nice, the photo booth rules, there's skee ball, the music is pretty good, the bathrooms are unisex, and the coat check is FREE. The not so good: The line to get in can take a really long time to get through, sometimes the music transitions are strange (he started playing Lion King out of nowhere the other night), and it can get really crowded. I've been to Slippery Slope many times considering I live right across the street from it. I've had good times and I've had bad times. There is always a mile long line to get in on the weekends, I look out my window in amazement that people would wait so long to get into this bar when there are equally as "fun" bars on the same block. The atmosphere is cool, the drinks are good (a little too expensive for my taste but there's always the cheap beer option), but the dance floor... the dance floor is pretty small and PACKED on the weekends. In order to get to the bathrooms you have to squeeze past everyone on the dance floor which is extremely annoying when drunk people are constantly pushing through the crowd to use the restroom. The music is very off and on with what's good. There's a DJ and he will play throwbacks (which is the good) or he'll play very pop things like Miley Cyrus. When I'm drunk and having a good time, music doesn't really bother me but there have been plenty of times we just got so sick of the playlist of the night we had to leave. The guys that go here really kill my buzz. They are not chill and I always get bothered some way or another by them. But maybe that's just what happens at bars, I don't know. Last time I went I was at the front of the line and the bouncer asked me how I was doing and I casually said "I'm good, pretty drunk, hows your night" and he went agro saying "Why would I let you in my bar? That's a pretty dumb thing to say to a bouncer. You can't come in." Considering most people who go to bars are drunk and I'm of age doing nothing wrong, why the fuck was that such a big deal? I don't understand why bouncers have to act all tough shit and O.K. I'm not going to beg you to let me in to your stupid bar. I didn't even want to go in the first place, slippery slope is always my friends and my last resort. I don't know, I don't get the hype of slippery slope. How awesome of a bar to have private bathrooms instead of one big one. When there is more than one person in a bar bathroom sometimes you see things you can't unsee. The bar is super dark and so loud you can't hear a thing. The whole reason to come here was to try the ski ball I heard about. But there are only 3 machines,1 of which was broken.
