Fair warning to anyone considering renting 401 E. Second Street in Ocean Isle Beach. We've been here for our vacation, paying well over $2,000 for the week, and I've now been stung SEVEN times by wasps/hornets on the property. I've personally removed two nests myself, and even after the property management company sent pest control out, I was stung again. I understand that insects are part of coastal living, but being stung seven times during a single vacation is beyond ridiculous. A rental property should be properly inspected and treated before guests arrive, especially for the first renters of the season. What frustrates me most is that this issue has continued despite it being reported and despite pest control already visiting the property. At some point, "we sent someone out" stops being a solution when guests are still getting stung. A vacation is supposed to be relaxing. Instead, I've spent the week watching every corner of the house, deck, and outdoor area wondering where the next nest is hiding. Extremely disappointed with how this has been handled. read more

Bermuda Trace 1. Get a tetanus shot before your vacation. The walkway is in horrid condition with missing rails, rotten boards and rusty nail pops. Our son was injured during our trip and spent an afternoon getting a tetanus booster. 2. Bring your own kitchen appliances. Most of the ones in the house are not fully functional. 3. Prepare to spend the first day cleaning. The house is cluttered and the kitchen dishes, silverware, cups, etc. were not clean upon arrival. The bathrooms had mold around the vents, shower walls and faucet handles. 4. Schedule an appointment with your chiropractor for after the vacation since the beds are way too soft. 5. Plan on spending a day of your vacation with maintenance. When we arrived the house had a water leak and we had to ask to have the rusted out grill replaced. 6. We had 8 guests at most on our trip. The house says it can hold 16 but I can't imagine having more than 10. 7. Bring a cooler. There is only one refrigerator which had a broken shelf during our visit. While Sloane did send out a plumber and maintenance the day after our arrival I'm still surprised they would be willing to manage this property in its current condition. The property has a lot of potential (the other side of the duplex is beautiful) but in its current state I would definitely find somewhere else to stay. read more

The standard for appropriate rentals by Sloan is well below acceptable. I rented a condo which upon arrival was filthy (food in the kitchen sink drain basket), had a broken toilet and a clogged bathroom sink. The floors were covered with dirt, grit and crumbs. The glass coffee table was sticky and dirty. It puzzles me how the condo was cleaned at all without the clogged sink broken toilet being detected?! After reporting these to Sloane, the housekeeping staff did come and cleaned the floors and tabletops. Not the bathroom, however. The maintenance team did come and fixed the toilet. The clogged sink was never fixed. When I asked to move to a different condo I was told they couldn't do that unless the owner agreed to "release" our reservation. I have trouble with that response given the condition of the rental for which we paid. Sloane also told me they were aware the condo was a bit "outdated". I had expected an older rental unit. However, this was not just older or outdated- it was simply unacceptable. Sloane's standards are apparently below acceptable. Never again will I trust this rental agency. read more

They'll take your rental deposit with a smile and if you cancel, they will tell you they've re-rented the property at a lower rate and keep your $500 deposit- a June rental cancelled in January! Such a scam! My suggestion, never do business with them. They're looking for ways to take money any way they can. read more

Ocean front Condo was nice, and clean, but ran into several appliance and elevator issues. I was concerned before renting because there were no posted reviews of Endless Summers. I expected a fully functioning freezer and fridge when I got there for $13,000 +. A week after our stay, I posted a review online describing the issues that needed to be fixed. I stayed at Ocean Cove at Ocean Isle beach. The keypad would not let me in. There was hair in the bathroom sink. There was just 1 roll of toilet paper. There was not any paper towels. To watch tv, I had to go on the internet and put in a password. It seems these people don't care about the renter making sure everything was top notch when the renter arrives.I will not rent from Sloane realty again. read more

Please, please do yourself a favor and book a home through Air B & B or any of the other booking services in the area. I called when in the property last year to "lock in" next year's rate after receiving an email from them. I asked what would happen if I were unable to get vacation approved for the future week booked and was assured I would be refunded. They changed their policy from $75 booking fee last year, required $75 and 10% up front. Long story short, I paid $531 to book and they refunded $262. Without having disclosed any info while booking over the phone, they charge $150 cancellation fee, keep your $75 "booking fee" and keep the difference between last year's rate and this year's. Unconsionable. Also, the home is rebooked at the higher rate too, if you're wondering. read more

Upon check-in the condo at Ocean Point looked satisfactory other than the kitchen counters were sticky. However, at midweek, upon picking up something from the living room floor, we saw food and excessive dirt under all of the living room furniture and under the sofa cushions. Also during midweek, a roach crawled across the floor while I was using the bathroom. We looked under all of the beds the next morning and again found excessive filth. The quilt in the master bedroom had stains on it. I contacted Sloane Realty when we got home and advised them of our dissatisfaction and asked to be compensated. They said we should have contacted them upon arrival (when we weren't aware of the filth) and they said they would refund $195. This review is for two units, 405 and 402, both of which I rented and both were disgustingly filthy. The cost to rent them was approximately $7500 so a refund of $195 was an utter insult. I will never rent from Sloane again nor will I ever stay at Ocean Point again. read more

Really hovering between 2 and 3 stars here. Our family has been vacationing on Ocean Isle for as long as I can remember. We deal primarily with Sloane because they have the house ocean front house that works best for us, but over the years we've dealt with all the rental companies and they're all basically the same. Never had any real problems with Sloane's, though this year we did have an issue with a non-flushing toilet and disposal in the house that I'm not sure was ever resolved. And whoever does the cleaning at the end of the week needs to do a better job. The toilet in our bathroom was disgusting and the bathroom rug had more hair in than my brush! read more

Room had mold, awful moldy smell and an incredibly rude staff. We arrived 20 minutes before the office was closing and Cathy, the manager at Sunset Beach, was extremely rude. We told her we were having issues, and she interrupted us and rudely said, "let me just ask you something - why wait until right before closing to call and complain? I said, "We just got here, and there is mold everywhere". She acted as if we were a bother and then told me she would have to charge me to move me to another room, a king. She had clearly forgotten that she had downgraded us without refunding anything and then was going to try to charge us more. It made no sense. I have dealt with Sloane in the past and always had great experiences, but I will not utilize their services again. I got extremely sick from staying in that room for one night. I had to go to multiple doctor's appointments, get inhalers, and take medication. It took over a week for my lungs to get back to normal. I let the company know, and they acted as if they cared and said they would get back to me to check on my health. Well, they didn't, so I emailed them, and, coincidentally, the next morning they said they tested the mold and it wasn't black mold. I expressed that I had lost all faith in them and asked to see the results myself. She told me she didn't access to the results. Surely she could've told me the name of the company who did the testing then. Nope. I am worried that no testing was ever completed. When I stated the same, I was referred back to the Sunset Beach manager, Cathy, the same woman who has been rude since we first spoke to her. I asked to please speak to someone else and was told they would speak to a supervisor and have a supervisor reach back out to me. Have you ever felt like someone was running you circles? We left our vacation rental early. We are repeat customers of Sloane, coming to OIB over 15 years. We rented the same home Sept 2017. In that stay, we had modest issues of occasional roach and the AC went out. The roaches weren't a big deal. AC repaired same day. Now, fast forward to May 2018. Strike 1:Arriving at the home we found 9 dead roaches of multiple types. Most were clearly dead a while and in clear/obvious locations dead center in the living area and bedrooms. Either a cleaning crew did not stop by or they were incompetent. Either is disappointing. Sloane called as we were cleaning. We shared our experience. She was apologetic but clearly complacent in reassuring us that all rentals get palmetto bugs and she can send housekeeping. She stated the house didn't rent the week before and housekeeping didn't come in prior to our arrival, subsequently the property manager noted they did come and potentially missed. Either way, service did not occur or was unfathomably poor. We cleaned then went to the grocery and bought traps and spray, still optimistic in our vacation. Strike 2:2 days later, when getting dressed, the door code goes off and a guy WALKS right through the door. No knocking, identifying himself as a Sloane employee, NOTHING. Standing in the kitchen my husband tries to stop him from coming as my child and myself are not dressed. He states he needs to fix something and thought the home empty. He asks us how long we are staying and we tell him Saturday. He wouldn't leave standing wedged in the door in eviction mode. Finally tells us sorry wrong location and should be at a similar address. We called Sloane to ensure our lock code was not to be deleted. They stated someone will call us back:Nope! Again Sloane numb to our experience. Strike 3:May 30th, ~10pm my daughter is getting ready for bed. I hear her start yelling she has a bug on her. It's a BED BUG! I immediately get her out of that room. We call the "after hours emergency line". They tell us someone will call back. Same lady calls back that Sloane will call us at 8am. What? Checked the other beds and found other signs of an issue (Shredded skins in the other beds. The oncall service stated protocol, email Sloane. We asked for the BED BUG protocol and she said THERE IS NONE! We tried to convince the lady to contact Sloane for instruction. No event calls to contact Sloane. Fire? call the fire department, Sloane not to be contacted. Plumbing breach? Disable the water, Sloane not to be contacted. AC out? Sloane not be contacted. She was not empowered to contact Sloane using her judgement to distinguish between routine bugs, handled in the morning, and bed bugs. I would not expect assistance from Sloane outside of business hours. Assume it's not a help line, but an answering service. Without help, we were willing on 0hrs sleep to drive 8hrs back home. 930am the property manager called us to say she DOES see the same layman signs of BED BUGS and we shouldn't have left. They have a pest control company coming. She did convey Sloane did have experience and protocol that does leave the consumer in the home. She called back later to tell us their exterminator identified no signs of BED BUGS and we must have had a BED BUG that decided to hitchhike. At that point, it then appeared Sloane planned to do nothing for the health of that house. So worried! We are certainly not confident in the assessment. Strike 4:The property manager offered us $100.00 from Sloane. We tell her we would like a full refund. She goes on and on to say we CHOSE to LEAVE. WHO WOULD STAY? Would you stay with your child in a place with Bed bugs? What did they want us to do when the 24 help line provided us no help? I had to remove my daughter from an unsafe/unsanitary place. She said her superior would call the following day (didn't call). She said she was going to call the owner of the rental to ask if they would be willing to refund us the nights we weren't there(never called back). We lost vacation time, the most precious. We lost fiscally, much greater than the rent. We tossed our luggage and belongings. Sloane failed to meet expectations. I do not fault the owner. They hire Sloane as a service to manage contracts, manage a home that is clean, safe, and to provide outstanding customer service. We believe we AND the homeowner should be refunded. Sloane become complacent and unfazed to customer service problems and incapable of distinguishing between small issues that can be deferred and large issues that meaningfully impact. We rented 86 E First Ave, Ocean Isle Beach. On the internet this house looks perfect because you can walk onto the deck and there is lovely pool that looks out over the ocean. And you can walk directly onto the beach. Also the kitchen was upgraded with granite counter tops and has good set of dishes. And the bedrooms are good size with double queens in four rooms and kings in two rooms. Family members observed the upstairs smells like PISS and the worst room has a private bath with Resolve Urine Remover in the cabinet and multiple air fresheners in multiple bedrooms. Real estate office gave us Febreze air freshener and we turned on ceiling fans and opened vents in the room (don't know why the vents were closed but the odor was trapped). We were thankful to get into our rental after 4pm and were able to put our perishable goods in the refrigerator and freezer while cleaning was still in progress. One person cleaned six bedrooms, baths etc and told us she was short on staff because all the rentals start and stop on Saturdays. We discovered one bag of sheets was wet (and put them into dryer) but then we were missing one set of king sheets (real estate told us to come over and pick up sheets from them - having the king sheets was appreciated!). Also we got speedy maintenance because smoke detector was beeping during the night and it woke up our one year old grandson...beep...wah...beep...wah...beep and another howl...so we were thankful the maintenance people fixed it same day I called them. Upstairs plumbing was slow but not to worry, this rental comes with a toilet plunger and we used it and we were thankful to have it. Three of us came away from our vacation with cough, cough, cough (from the air quality in the upstairs?). Our nephew's 7 year old daughter came for a visit from a different rental, 3 houses away and said "your house smells like PISS" and other adult children and their spouses noticed the rental smells BAD. This is the worst smelling vacation rental we have experienced in 30+ years of staying at many different NC beaches. We will NOT stay at this house again. Not sure if carpet or bedding needs to be replaced. The writeup does state the rental is no pets but the owner brings their own cats and dogs to the property in the off season. Did a dog or cat piss in the double queen bedroom behind the master king suite? Again, no other rental that we walked into smelled of PISS! Also our 31 year old daughter found roaches running through her kitchen level double queen bedroom and this made all of us unhappy. Again the rental does come with bug spray above the kitchen cabinet so somebody else has noticed this issue. Our 3 year old grandson brought his Mom a pill he found on the floor in his bedroom. This was scary because we have no idea what medicine he found but thankfully he didn't eat the mystery pill. We have weathered many maintenance issues in the past. We do NOT recommend this address until they FIX the odor in this rental property (and how would you know? No property manager is going to suggest that you come and rent their smelly house or list recent odor abatement work). read more

We stayed at 117 W 1st Ave on the beach in Ocean Isle. The property is in need of the deck replaced around the pool. The rental company Sloan had someone come over and try to pound nails in but really did very little to improve it. While they were responsive to our needs, they never followed back up after we provided feedback and disappointment in the property for the price. read more

No prices available..when u look up the price for rental all u get is current lprice... much cheaper than summer rates..upon calling rental company we were informed that properties were much higher than what we expected. I had prebooked 2 properties for my family to look at...certainly did not expect that to be nonrefundable!!! Called to cancel..now I get credit card statement and am charged for 2 prebooked houses...so today I call and hear nonrefundable on both !!! What a bunch of crap...do not even attempt to rent from this company!! Why would I book multiple places?? I had even called and talked w them about individual properties...no one said prebooking was nonrefundable...bait and switch tactics..NOT TRUSTWORTHY!!! read more

242a E. 1st St. was rented through Sloane for June 16 through July 3, 2021. This house is poorly maintained and the "between rental" cleaning was minimal. Example - sand on the floor when we originally occupied the house. It was quite disappointing. We have rented here for many years and never expect perfection. But this was the most poorly managed house we've ever occupied. Just some of the examples: Outdoor shower full of sand since it was not built on a raised platform that would drain the sand and water. A kitchen cabinet door was only attached by one piece of hardware and fell to the side every time it opened. The lighting in the rooms was minimal. Repairs to the outdoor walkway was piecemeal; eg, apparently the steps needed to be repaired but the flat part of the walk was not replaced A bedroom door that would lock on its own, often requiring us to walk through the attached bathroom and bedroom to get out. We liked the layout, it's located at a nice beach and could be very appealing if properly taken care of. It appears Sloan does no regular quality inspections on the proporties they represent read more

The following pertains to Tequila Sunrise at 13 Sea Turtle Path. My elderly parents rented this three-story home with elevator from Saturday through Saturday. The reason for renting a home with an elevator was due to health and prior surgeries. I was the first to arrive late Saturday night from four hours away out of town. When I pulled into the driveway, there was an "out of order" sign on three elevator doors and each had been bolted. Yet, no one called my parents (who planned to arrive on Sunday) to alert them that the elevator was broken. When they inquired the next day, they were told the elevator would be repaired on Monday, so they drove four hours to the beach. It was not repaired on Monday and they were told someone would repair it on Thursday. As of 12:00 pm on the Friday prior to checkout tomorrow, the elevator has not been repaired and they have not been told about when it might be repaired. Neither Sloane Realty or the owners have offered any concessions or discount for the elevator not working for the entirety of the week despite the fact that this is a key and necessary feature of the beach house for some people. If you have an elderly or injured family member and require an elevator, I would recommend booking with another company since there was no prior contact information and a seeming lack of advocacy on the part of the realty company. Follow-Up: Elevator became available for use at 1:15 pm on Friday. Checkout was Saturday morning by 9:00 am. The maintenance director did not explain the situation to my parents or others who were there when he arrived. The reservations manager did not contact my parents as stated would happen. Neither anyone from Sloane Realty or the owner of the home reached out to my parents via phone or in person to discuss the situation, though Sloane Realty advertises it as a key feature of this home and the website listing reads: "An elevator makes this house handicap friendly." Cost of home for the week: $5,755. No contact or explanation prior to arrival about "out of order" signs placed on elevator of a three-story rental property. Things that did not happen as stated by owner or the representatives of Sloane Realty: 1) the elevator would be repaired by Monday, 2) the elevator would be repaired by Thursday, and 3) the reservations manager will reach out to renters to discuss the situation due to the fact that the elevator was unavailable until 1:15 pm on Friday prior to a Saturday morning departure time. read more

We rented a large home in Ocean Isle Beach from Sloane this year. In the past we have used other rental companies and had a pleasant experience. Sloane had the house we wanted this year though so we went with them. Check in was fairly simple and they were well staffed to handle the crowds checking in on Saturday afternoon. When we arrived at the house it was clean and well decorated. In previous years there is some information in the house regarding items of interest with the house, pool, amenities, etc. None of this was found and it is typically fairly helpful. Two of the amenities listed (Wi-Fi and phone service) when we originally rented the home (I have our original contract) were not available when we arrived. They were also removed entirely from the website. When I contacted Sloane about this they told me that the house never had Wi-Fi or phone service and that if I wanted I could check the website. I told them I had our original rental agreement where the amenities were clearly listed. Honestly, I didn't feel up to arguing about on our first day of vacation. I understand completely that items available change but acknowledging that and/or making renters aware of that is just good business. We also had a maintenance issue that we called about on our second to last day and never received a response. Checkout was easy (we did the drop box in the morning). Next year we won't be going with Sloane for our OIB rental. read more

Upon arriving at 15 Old Marina Drive, we found notes throughout the house stating that "this house sucks", "get out while you can", "seriously run".  Much to our dismay, these notes held true. And, unlike some of the assertions on past reviews that the owner nor property managers were never notified, I emailed Sloane of issues as they were identified. I will say, the house lay-out is very nice, there is a lot of repair and upkeep needed. And, the elevator worked well. Of note, the property per the internet, appears to have been foreclosure and is currently bank-owned. The furniture in the living areas were outdated and dirty. The floors under the beds had not been swept, which did not bode well for those with allergies. The 3rd floor entrance floor boards were dry rotting, and the freezer was not working properly. We called about the issues and maintenence did come. The guys were really great and friendly. That said, given the discovery of issues over the course of the vacation - maintenance had to come Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Then there was the driving rain - with that came excess water from around a closed window, water from the ceiling down the walls of a bathroom. When reporting the window, I was told "unfortunately, that's common with beach houses". Well, I've stayed at other beach houses, and this was never an issue before - it's called the use of sealant/caulking. The water in the bathroom was coming from a leak in the kitchen - not sure where.  Other issues: clogged tub so water backing up, another tub unusable by our standarfs because it was unstable - appeared to be dislocated from the wall and the flooring beneath sounded weak, tacks coming out of the sofa uphostery, and a huge dead bug (told that's normal due to monthly spraying). Also, there is mold in the celining of one bathroom - as identified my maintenance - apparently caused by an external leak.  Requested to be relocated or a partial refund but was told we don't do that for maintenance issues. So, my inconvenience was not of concern despite how nice the manager was. Customer Servive is more than just being cordial and addressing issues, quite another to say "sorry for the inconvenience, yes, we know there are issues, let's work together to address your inconvenience"  - for, every issue had a resulting negative impact on our family vacation. To summarize, my vacation was not one of pleasure due to these constant issues; and my misery helped the property owner and Sloane get the property in better shape for the next incoming renters. Of note, dry rotted floors and unstable tub to be fixed after our departure Saturday. Something seems inherently wrong with this. How about property managers walking through prior to the arrival of renters to ensure the property is up to par. So to be clear, I will never use Sloane Realty again for a vacation rental, nor do I recommend them or this property. Quality and customer service are of utmost importance to me, and I did not find that with this property or the property manager. Back to Hilton Head in 2017 where we get quality and service. read more

We rented a house, 117 West First St, over Oysterfest weekend (October 14th). We had 5 couples and the home is located on the beach. The home advertised AC, a grill, and a ice maker all of which did not work. The AC worked downstairs but not upstairs where there were two bedrooms and were everyone hung out. The AC also was quite noisy. Also one bedroom had mildew throughout. They sent someone over to fix the AC but since they needed a part it was not working for the entire weekend. Sloane or the owner offered no reduction in rent or compensation, only an uncaring attitude. Not sure how Sloane earns their commission if they can't even check out a house before they rent it out. Based on other reviews I can see this is a pattern. Would suggest renting thru someone you can trust. read more

If you can avoid renting from Sloane Realty, I urge you to consider going with any other company in Ocean Isle. My family and I rented a home through Sloane located at 38 Leland Street. The home is on the canal, has two decks and also has a dock. Upon arriving, the stove/oven were broken and it took Sloane 2 days to fix the issue. But the biggest issue was with the dock and decks on the house. The upper deck was unusable, as boards were broken and cracked. Had we not noticed, if someone stepped on it they would have fallen through and been either seriously injured or killed. The side guard rail on the deck was also missing pieces of wood and a child could easily have walked through it and plumpted to their death. The dock at the property was also in a state of severe disrepair. The railing around it was so rotted that if you put any pressure on it, it would have broken off and you would have fallen into the water. Several planks on the dock were also broken or rotted. It is certainly understandable that things break and need to be fixed. But it took Sloane over 3 days to fix the dock after they came and inspected it the day we called about it. When their representative came to observe the site, they roped off the dock so we couldn't use it. They did the same with the deck. We paid to stay at a property with access to a dock but were unable to use ours for over half of the time we rented the property. Sloane Realty refused to refund us one cent for this. Becky Whitley, the Reservations Manager for Sloane, has the worst customer service sense of anyone I've ever met in my lifetime. She was rude, tried to deny Sloane was liable for any of these issues and had no sympathy whatsoever for me or my family. We have five or six families who travel to Ocean Isle yearly and now none of us with rent from Sloane, even if they're the cheapest option. We'd much rather pay more than give one dime to that rental agency. read more

607 W. Main Unit A. We came down to hang out and work for a week during quarantine, and realized quickly the house has major wifi issues. The posting said the house had WIFI, and while technically I suppose its true, its a duplex and Wifi is in the other unit. The only place you could connect consistently was in the upstairs bedroom next to the wall because it was on the other side in the the other house. Stating this house has wifi is an exaggeration. This management company never once returned any of my calls, they did try to fix it unsuccessfully, but I had to follow up repeatedly and they were surprisingly cranky and rude about it. They did inform me no appliances are guaranteed and that the contract says they will try to fix whatever appliance but no guarantees. Also the neighbors in the connecting house have to agree to let services people in. So there you have it, maybe stuff will work in the house maybe it won't you have no recourse due to the contract, and they company will jerks about it. Sunset Beach is beautiful and several people on the island told this is the least reputable rental company down there and for such a nice house they were suprised they were using them. It put an unfortunate stressor on the whole trip for everyone, we had students and folks that were trying to work with us. Bummer. read more

Water to entire house off at arrival. Because linens were provided but guests made their beds the level of filth could not be hidden; stains, sand and dirt and no mattress covers. Badly stained rugs, dirty fridge, damaged blinds, many non working light switches. Debris under beds, pillows, shoes from previous guests. Bedding on floor in closets and a large bloody handprint inside closet door...disgusting. I will not return to Ocean Isle Beach or utilize Sloane Realty Vacations again. When you pay a premium price for an oceanfront property (251 W 1st in Ocean Isle), it's disappointing when the property is misrepresented on the website. The primary window in the kitchen/dining/living area, looking pristine in the property description, was so defective that it was impossible to enjoy the ocean view. We never would have rented this property had we been aware of this situation. When we asked for a price reduction, we were told that "The owner does not feel a refund is in order as the condition of the window is out of her control. She has been working on this since January. Three replacement windows have been sent and all three were defective." False advertising makes for unhappy customers. Sloane's website should show the true condition of the properties they represent. Another issue was their refusal to repair an unattached ladder to a bunk bed that fell on both our grandson and our daughter-in-law, claiming it was not meant to be attached. Frustrated with the reality company, loved the house. Sloane Realty did not clean this property. Upon arrival, the pool area was dirty, there was a liquor bottle on the pool deck, the pool bathroom had mold and mildew on tile and all over toilet. The back upper decks had weeks of bird shit and we could not sit outside on those decks. There was no pool furniture out side around pool, so we assumed the house did not come with any, which seemed strange for a house this size. The kitchen area ice maker was not working right and flooded the bar area with water and leaked down to the lower level, later a maintenance guy stopped by unannounced to put in a filter, which is why it was leaking. We asked him about furniture for the pool and said it should have been put out, and he left to get keys to open that closet and get furniture for us. The house is amazing and beautifully set up, but would not recommend using Sloane Realty, the owner should consider using a better management company to manage their property. We are a large family and renting two other properties on this island, the other two have different management companies, found these three on VRBO, the other companies allowed early check in and later check out, cleaner properties and quick responses to any client problems. Sloane dose not seem to care nor do they want to build a relationship with their renters. I own two rental properties in venture CA, both are managed by a realty company and are listed on VRBO. I understand how important a management company is to my success as a property owner and they are the direct contact with the customers, so I make sure they are handling both the property and client so they have an amazing, stress free vacation and consider coming back again and again. Sloane dose not have this philosophy. Again this house is amazing, great lay out for large family and well appointed. Its a shame Sloane Realty Vacations is not maintaining this property to the expectations of the price per night nor the type of home. We as a family stay up and down the coast each year for family gatherings. We will be back to Ocean Isle but will not be using Sloane Properties to secure a house. We had rented a house for the first week of August and received notice that there was a mandatory evacuation before we were scheduled to arrive due to the hurricane. After the hurricane passed we were notified that ocean Isle was closed. We were informed that no refund would be available. Extremely poor customer service. We are both retired and do not appreciate this treatment. You can count on us never using Sloane Realty or visiting Ocean Isle in the future. We are frequent travelers to the East coast and have experienced much better customer service, even in light of hurricanes, by other providers and communities. read more

WOW! I am shocked by all the negative comments. We have been vacationing and using Sloane Realty for over 30 years. We just returned from the Oyster festival this past weekend.October 21 and 22, 2017. We had a group of friends with us and we used Sloane for our rental. It was very nice and was fully equipped. Found an affordable rental through Sloane. Place was large, well equipped, and clean. Although we had a bug problem, when we reported it they quickly offered to send someone out to spray. Since I understand we're at the beach and that it happens, especially when places have been empty for a while, I won't let that too negatively effect my review. It was good to know that they were responsive with the one minor problem we had. When we checked in at the office the staff were a little brusque and not very helpful. Like, they didn't even give us directions to our place. Fine. They were really firm on the (early) checkout time (10 am), and we were not able to push it back even after asking nicely. Fine. I realize that most of these places are rented out by the week, but we were just in for a weekend, and it would have been nice to be able to not rush our last morning. read more

Do not waste your time or your money renting thru Sloane. Our vacation rental this year at Ocean Isle was disgusting and extremely disappointing. The house (N62 West 2nd Street) was awful. One of the bedrooms advertised was actually one of the garage bays turned into a bedroom. A bunk bed was actually set up in the main entryway of the home, blocking the "front" door. The house was filthy and in desperate need of updating - this house looks like you just stepped into 1970! All of the appliances except the oven/stove need replaced. The carpeting was covered with pet stains - definitely a house I never went barefoot in! The bugs and frogs were out of control and when we called Sloane they said they would come but they never did. Half of the walls were patched and not painted. The outside deck sagged in the middle and had rotten boards and railings. The entire pool deck was filled with rocky craters that hurt your feet to walk on and there was not enough outdoor seating to accommodate more than 4 people. The yard was a mess...grass was up to my knees in places and the bushes around the pool need to be trimmed desperately! One of the basement windows leaked with running water whenever it would rain. None of the blinds on any of the windows or doors would open or close correctly because they didn't have any of the hardware or levers to work them. One of the bedrooms upstairs had no curtains or blinds - we had to hang a sheet up so my daughter could sleep. Completely unkept or cared for home and not worth half of what they charge you!! I wrote a review on Sloane's website and it was never posted or responded to. Since coming home I have emailed them twice and left 2 voice messages with no replies or returned calls. They don't give a crap - all they want is your money. They obviously have no guidelines of cleanliness or truthfulness to the houses they rent out nor do they care about the conditions of these houses or yards/pools. The house and Sloane Realty Vacations were a true disappointment. I will never use their services again. read more

We usually go to a different beach in past years so this was first year with Sloane and they were so great, will definitely return with them next year. The employees are all super and the house was the cleanest one we have had so far. We had an issue with the elevator when we arrived and they had 2 guys there within 5 minutes to get us up and running, also an elevator repairman arrived later to make sure that we were not experiencing any issues at all with the lift. Our Wifi was great, and I also really appreciated the email reminders about trash nights and recycle nights to put them out. And love that they actually provide recycle service, past houses did not provide so we ended up taking large bags of recycles home with us since putting in the garbage is not cool. And lastly, the pool was so clean and did not smell or taste of over chlorine and the pool person who came by was so nice, very impressed with that. read more

If there was a less than 1 star option, that would be my choice. We have a church ladies beach retreat on Ocean Isle Beach each year. Historically we've had great experiences with our rentals through Sloane Realty. We rented 148 E First St which is a 9 BR, 9Bath oceanfront house with elevator. Sounds great, doesn't it? Well it is FILTHY. Toilets had black ring in them. Coffee pots still had grounds from last rental. Ceiling fans had so much dust that we didn't want to use them. Did I mention the roaches? I wish I could add pictures to show you the dirty switch plates, broken mini blinds, etc. we reported these things to Sloane and they gave us a late checkout. REALLY? Be careful when renting through Sloane and NEVER rent this particular house. The owner apparently does do much quality control or maintenance on this property. Otherwise, we love OCEAN ISLE BEACH. read more

warned pictures can be deceiving! If you are bringing children in this home reconsider, it is not safe. We surprised our son for his seventh birthday, and rented a home on Ocean Isle through Sloane Realty. The home on Monroe Street that we stayed in was not well kept or clean to say the least. There was so much dust on the wood paneling it looked like it was growing fur. The blinds in one bedroom where spattered with food. The AC returns were visibly full of dust. There were pills found on the floor in the room my children were staying in. In another bedroom someone's leftover bottle of vodka was found in the dresser. The microwave handle was broken off. The storm door arm was broken off making it slam. The dock was in major disrepair, slats missing that a child could fall easily fall through, when we tied our boat off the cleat came off of the dock , and there were gaping spaces on the walkway of the dock. The listing stated that it was a stocked kitchen, not likely, it needs a lot. We also had some other issues with unapproved work being done on the house during our stay, which resulted in us leaving early. Sloane addressed this issue, but none of the other issues above. Needless to say we were very disappointed in the upkeep, safety, and cleanliness of the property. read more

Do not use this company but if you do do not stay in ica2 at island club. We checked in on 8/10/19. First thing we notice was strong cat urine odor and that the a/c was not cooling. The cleaning lady was sent back and all she did was spray pet odor stuff that didn't help. The maintenance man came and said a/c was ok and I was later told it was because we were at beach that it smelled and didn't cool. Sunday morning we woke with water leaking from ceiling. Plumber came said it was fixed. This morning we woke with floor full of water and sheet rock hanging down. They came and cut 1x 4 ft hole in ceiling and left. Now we have worse smell coming out of hole and what little cooling we had going into ceiling. I asked for full refund so we could leave and was told the owner would not refund our $2500.00. Do not use these people. Their maintenance man just came and asked who cut hole in ceiling. No one knows what other person in company knows. What a joke Most definitely do not rent this unit from an uncaring money hungry jerk. read more

Stayed with Sloane Vacations @ 145 east 1st st in ocean isle beach May 12-15, 2017 and I am undecided if I will rent a vacation property through them again, but probably not this house again. Yes, it has lots of bedrooms (4), a private pool (it's clean and great with built in bench seating), gracious kitchen utensils and linens, etc. but there were also some issues with the home and the way those issues are being handled through Sloane, thus far, is not ok. First off, my almost 5 year old child came up to me with a sandwich baggy and asked what was in it bc it smelled funny, and I realized that it was a baggy of marijuana. The thought that one of my children could've eaten it not knowing what it was terrifies me. I called the police and made sure they notated everything for the rental property. Another thing about the home was the roaches, both alive and dead, that were found in every room. The small accent mats were filthy and I had to wash them before they were used (esp in the kitchen). Also, looking at the house, the rooms on the left side were much warmer than the rooms on the right side. Significantly warmer. After speaking with Sloane, the only accommodation they were "willing" to make was to take $50 off the next rental property we overpaid for. Disappointing. read more

The Sloane Realty Office in Sunset Beach is fantastic! I cannot say the same about the Office in Ocean Isle Beach. After having a check and contract lost in the mail for two weeks (they had no record of receiving it), I was informed by staff that my reservation was canceled. So we made other arrangements. I called three days later to cancel my check to find out that it had actually been received and cashed. So I received a confirmation in the mail that my reservation had gone through. I called immediately spoke with someone so nice and understanding in the Sunset Beach Office who told me I would likely be able to cancel and get my deposit back, I just had to leave a voicemail with the manager on Monday. So I left a voicemail with the manager on Monday explaining my situation. On Tuesday, someone called "on behalf of" the manager to inform me I couldn't get any money returned unless they were able to re-rent the place which she informed would be hard to do - so I would just have to be out over $800. I then told her what the Sunset Beach office had told me and she rudely told me fine we will cut you a check for the monies you paid minus a $150 cancellation fee. But, never apologized for the inconvenience - even though I said I was sorry - and was rude and abruptly hung up on me. So if you are going to work with Sloane Realty be sure to work with Shannon in the Ocean Isle Beach office! She's great! read more

We recently stayed in the 1105 East Main Property (located on Sunset Beach, not OIB) managed by Sloane Realty. Given issues encountered, posting on OIB site for Sloane Realty Vacations to be helpful to other renters as well. PROS: The property location was great, 2nd row and walkable to the Pier. CONS: Bugs: Upon arrival, hundreds of Sand Gnats (No See Ums) - throughout upstairs bathroom (in tub, on window sill and on toilet below window); - along kitchen countertop; - bug infiltration continued throughout stay: - purchased bug spray to control issue; - rental company indicated exterminator could be provided, however: 1) maintenance should have been performed BEFORE arrival; and 2) did not want chemicals around children under 6 years old. - Lori Ann indicated she personally inspected the property prior to our arrival - if performed, terrible oversight by management. - Requested cleaning service was provided: - Arrived 18 hours later; - Upon entry, cleaning person stated that he remembered property's bug issues. Internet access: EXTREMELY slow DSL dialup; spotty coverage: - when accessed typical results as follows: Conway SC server 1.4 Mbps down/ 0.4Mbps up Property condition: Property in poor state of disrepair - particle board above stovetop flaked into food preparation area; - dishwasher not anchored to countertop; - not childproofed: - extension cords connecting electronics; - 1" gap between floor and screen door, allowing for more bug entry. SUMMARY: I would not recommend using Sloane Realty for property rental services. read more

My family and I had a great stay at Ocean Isle. The Sloane team was very professional and courteous. The house was clean and well stocked. The beaches were not too crowded and very well kept. We will be returning next year to vacation again and we will definitely use Sloane Vacations. read more

Stayed at 64 east west. The place was filthy. Worse yet - BEDBUGS! Itching all week. Some guy from Sloan's did come out and make some minor repairs and someone else came out and fumigated - after we complained about the cockroaches! But nothing killed the bedbugs evidently.
