    chai latte and berry parfait
    Jayla T.

This location is one of the newer locations of the Slowpokes. I was able to come here on a Saturday morning. I haven't been to other locations, but I really enjoyed this one! The workers were really nice, and it was very spacious inside. I got an iced chai tea latte with oat milk and the berry parfait, and both were good. The parking lot was pretty small, which wasn't issue, but I can see parking being a problem once they get a bit busier. The only con is that you only get the wifi for a two-hour window from your last purchase. It was pretty slow regardless, so I ended up just using my hotspot. Other than that, it's a nice little cafe!

Awesome new Slowpokes that has recently opened in the East End. I come into my companies' office located in EaDo every once in a while and was delighted to learn that Slowpokes was now in the area. The drinks here were amazing, I opted for the caramel apple chai and my friend the matchanana (both drinks from their current 'specials' selection). This was one of the better chai's i've tried in recent memory, I absolutely loved it. My friend seemed to enjoy their drink as well. The barista was super kind and patient with us as well since we took a minute to decide what we wanted. This place is huge. I've been to a different slowpokes location near the energy corridor and this place has them beat for space and outlets. Extremely well thought out for people who want to come in to study a bit or for a little pick-me-up chat. The only nitpick I have about slowpokes in particular is their wifi is not open to the public, you do have to buy something in order to get a receipt to log onto their network. Even then, though, you're limited to two hours before you will have to buy another item to extend your connection. Not the best choice for those who just wanna study/work outside their homes/offices. Otherwise, though, this place was awesome.

After living in Houston for several years, I have never had the chance to visit any of the now seven Slowpokes locations until today. This East Downtown location, situated on the corner of Canal and N Sampson streets in a converted gas station just opened today, and what a great addition to the neighborhood. They offer a full menu of coffee, tea, wine and beer in addition to breakfast, lunch and dinner options. The inside is comfortable and open, perfect to spend a couple of hours doing work or stopping by for a bite to eat with friends or family. As a converted gas station, they have tastefully converted the outside service area to a large outdoor seating area. There's several parking spots onsite in addition to street parking on N Sampson street. At least two different Metro stops are also just a block away making it accessible to all regardless of your transportation status. When I arrived the barista was very welcoming and helped me select a beverage based on my preferences - strong caffeine, dairy free, and less sweet. I ended up going with the "with love" latte which is one of their specialty lattes with honey and cinnamon. Regardless of your beverage selection, they are able to customize sweetness to your liking. While they do have a number of milk alternatives including oat, almond, and coconut (no pistachio yet), I was slightly disappointed to see that these are an additional $1 charge. Call me stingy but this always bothers me. Overall, the drink was tasty! I'm excited to see Slowpokes join the neighborhood and will certainly be back to try their food and enjoy the patio!

I am always visiting new study spots and I am so glad I finally came here. I came in here expecting it to get super full since that's been my experience at other coffee shops, but the eastside location has ample space to where I don't feel overwhelmed. I sit in this corner of the booth type seating area its awesome for me since I don't find sitting at a chair and desk super comfortable. There are plenty of outlets and just the right amount of sunlight but also coziness when it gets dark. The workers are very kind and have amazing taste in music to the point where I can study with no headphones here and stay focused. They even gave me suggestions when I was having a hard time choosing what coffee I wanted. The coffee is good but sometimes I feel they go a bit heavy when using whole milk. I'm sure i can just ask for less. I love some good bitter coffee and that's exatcly what they have here. It's not a nasty or plain bitterness but its the perfect amount. I can't wait to try more coffee's!

This new Slowpokes is lovely! And parking was a breeze. I found a spot up front on a Friday afternoon. I imagine that won't last once word gets out about the new location. About half the folks inside were working and the other half were enjoying coffee with their friends. Inside was very spacious. The flatbread I ordered arrived quickly and was divine. Service at the counter was not friendly but the new staff may have been nervous? My out of town friend commented that she loved it except it could have been friendlier.

Very spacious! Great for people to hang out or get some work done. The food comes out so fast and is super tasty! The drinks are yummy and they currently have a fall special menu with pumpkin flavors I would only say that the working isn't the best when it's all taken. But they have gravel parking across the street along with street parking

Yeah there's now a location in East Downtown! Discovered this place 10 years ago at the Garden Oaks first location. Been a ride or die since the start. What can I say? They had me at the sloth :) It's beyond amazing! Cool vibes, mystic beats, great folks work here and awesome folks hang out. And the food... the pretzel and the dipping sauces, oh my! Can't recommend this place enough. It's one of my favorites!!! So glad to see all the new locations that keep popping up!

I've been to Slowpokes a couple months ago at a different location, but decided to pop into this one to get some work done, and I was pleasantly surprised by their amble seating and outlets! There are so many tables and even individual ones with outlets right underneath. However, the parking is veryyy limited. There a small lot in front with maybe 4 spots and a side lot with maybe 6 spots. It sucks because there's so much seating but bad parking, but ig that's basically downtown summed up. I ordered the Purple Rain which is their ube and vanilla latte, and I'd honestly give it a 6/10. Presentation was great and it's a pretty latte, but I couldn't really taste any of the espresso notes or flavor through the ube or vanilla, and honestly my latte just tasted pretty milky. But the HTX Club Wrap was so yum, i'd give it an 8/10. Whatever sauce goes in there was so good- perfect amount of drench and a great crunch. I will be back

Busy enough to expect a wait, but nothing that made me want to leave. I ordered the brisket sammich and a Texas latte. The sandwich came out hot and fresh with a good amount of meat, though it definitely wasn't smoked brisket if that's what you're expecting. The Texas latte was okay. It needed more ice for me, so I asked for extra, which helped. Also could use a touch of sweetener. I waited about 8-10 minutes for my order, and by the time my food came out, a table had opened up, so timing worked out perfectly. The space has a really nice vibe overall and feels like a good place to sit for a bit, catch up with someone, or get some work done. Overall, solid experience. Between the atmosphere and convenient location, I'd definitely venture back again.

Staff was ok... not exceptionally warm and friendly but good enough. There were only two baristas working on a Saturday morning so perhaps they were stressed because it was busy. Coffee was delicious and served with a small chocolate mint. They also serve beer. Variety of pastries. Small parking lot that fills up quickly! There was a line of people outside waiting to get in a few minutes before they opened. My beloved Boomtown RIP…read more This pains me to write. Different is certainly not always better, especially when what you had was already working. I much prefer the saying if it ain't broke don't fix it. To the people who bought this place, I know your motto is "different is better," but please stop taking that so literally. You do not have to change every aspect of this place to make it different. The best thing about getting your everyday local coffee is seeing the same baristas you've seen over and over again, familiar faces who know you by name. This was one of those places where I'd hate to admit how much money I've spent here, and I did it happily. In just three weeks, our beloved spot, one I would willingly drive out of my way for, has gone so far downhill that I barely recognize it. From the eyesore taco warmer that practically knocks you in the face while you're ordering, replacing a space that once showcased lovely things like fresh flowers and local trinkets, to the disappearance of the wonderful local treats from Sinfull Bakery that kids genuinely enjoyed. At first I thought maybe you were just out, but after three weeks it became clear that expenses were being cut across the board and those items may never come back. And where do I even begin. The new oat milk is terrible. It completely changes the look and taste of the coffee and is immediately noticeable. I won't harp on the change of hours or the change in flavor of your coffee beans, but I feel it must be mentioned because, well, it's noticeable. And now the cleanliness. Spilled taco sauce all over the floor, and when your kid points it out, you know you're in trouble at that point. Dishes piled so high they're overflowing, dirty restrooms. And to be clear, this isn't the staff's fault, there is simply not enough staff to keep up with these things. Never ever in seven years of being a frequent visitor has it been this bad. I also noticed the new coffee packaging, and it's just another reminder that the heart and thoughtfulness that once defined this place are gone. At this rate I half expect robots handing me my latte in a few weeks so you can save a few more bucks. And getting rid of Toast. Even if Toast was an expensive platform to use, it was legitimately so convenient. And dang, if you're going to do away with it, don't replace it with the worst possible ordering system ever, one that doesn't even work. Do you know how many orders I wouldn't have placed if it weren't for Toast? Toast made those orders possible when I didn't have time to wait. Without it, I simply wouldn't have ordered. I understand times are tough for many businesses, but you all were booming. The new online ordering system doesn't work. You may as well do away with it altogether because this one just isn't it. Honestly, I am devastated. You knocked it out of the park in every area, cleanliness, service, food. I never had a single bad item on the menu. The coffee was beyond. When my family moved out of the city a year and a half ago, I still drove 35 minutes one way just to get your food and coffee, over an hour round trip again and again. I don't think you understand how this new direction has driven this place into the ground in a matter of three weeks. Sadly all good things must come to an end.
