The check in and nurse were great. Friendly and efficient. But the protocol is an expensive joke. Three appointments, at $100 a piece just to have a mole removed. Plus, the entire cost of the procedure because it's not covered. I asked why can't you just cut it off like my last dermatologist? They said that's not how they do it. Three visits, then the more expensive "cosmetic" department would "possibly" remove it. What a bureaucratic run around to charge more money. DO NOT GO TO SLUCARE or better known as SLU-I Don't-Care. The opticians are students. The intern/resident optician insists that not being able to read street signs and menus is 20/20 vision. You will never see a doctor/MD. I have been seen by these students and this intern twice in a 12 month period. I have yet to receive an accurate prescription for eye glasses and contact lenses. Dr. Susan Hoffstetter. Awesome. 6 stars. Took notes, talked to me, answered my very specific questions very specifically. I trusted her expertise. The docs in the Family and Community Medicine practice, Dr. Dawn Davis and Dr. Maynard are amazing. They often have same day appointments when I have been sick, and evening hours some days. So thorough, they go through rxs every time to verify their records, and spend as much time as it takes to answer questions and make sure you understand your care plan. The best docs I have been to. The nurses and front desk staff there are kind and helpful too. read more

Long story short: IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE, DO NOT GO TO SLU! You would think how big SLU is that they are that they are a great care facility. Nope! I went in for breathing issue and walked out with a half a$$ answer (we think it's acid reflux) and have to wait 6 more months just to get another visit, only to come back and be provided with an answer like. We think it's "adult asthma" but not sure. Then my primary leaves the hospital and so I have to wait another 6 months to meet my new primary. In the mean time, I am still prescribe an inhaler and over the counter anti acid medication. I am also waiting for a referral from the dermatology depart to call me back and but guess they do not returns call any more. Any way.. im taken my money and left and going elsewhere. NO telling how many patient they killed by their failed system and lack of knowledgeable staff. read more

This place sucks. Everyone is rude and no communication exists for this place. The registration greeter is extremely rude and lazy. We were in a house fire and lost everything including insurance info. We get to registration and the lady would not admit us until we got insurance info from the company. And she was like oh you can go up 2 levels to see if they will admit you. All I can think is what are you paying this employee to do? After all, this hospital and you are supposed to provide care for people. Not make guests do all the work for them. read more

This doc review might well be TMI -- even more than my cat-slice-nose story. Look away, boys. Actually, I was trying to find the SLUCare that's part of the Bellevue Medical Complex on Clayton Road, but seeing as that's not available, I'll go with the overall SLUCare business and keep my comments focused on the OB/GYN folks on Clayton. As noted in my review for Downtown Urgent Care, I hate medical stuff. HATE. I cry as soon as I'm on my way to a doctor, and I'm tense the entire time I'm in an exam room. Fortunately, the SLUCare folks at the Bellevue Medical Complex have been dealing with me for a few years, and I have the utmost appreciation for them. When it's time for the yearly girly exam, I see Dr. Susan Hoffstetter. I had gone to a different SLUCare doc before, but Dr. Hoffstetter makes me feel much, much calmer. She's a patient doctor who doesn't do anything until you're ready, and she uses humor to help put you at ease. She's slow with the tools and explains every moment of a procedure before it actually happens. As mentioned, I'm a cry baby, so I always request that a nurse come in to hold my hand and attempt chatter to distract me. Yes, I could have the friend who drove me come in, but really, neither of us wants that. The distraction doesn't always work, but it's really, really reassuring. When I first requested this assistance years ago, I thought I might get laughed at; in fact, I *was* laughed at by previous docs and staff. However, both Dr. Hoffstetter and her staff understand what gets me through medical procedures and exams best, and they don't belittle me for it. They give me as much time as I need and don't rush anything. The desk staff also are wonderful. They're pleasant when booking appointments, and they patiently explain insurance quirks and whatnot. Honestly, I feel a little weird singing the praises of someone who invades my ladyparts on a yearly basis, but Dr. Hoffstetter totally deserves it. I'd recommend her to anyone who's squeamish about doctor stuff, is new to the yearly thing or even to the "regular" folks who can stomach all of this without problem. read more

I have been with slucare for almost 18yrs. Thanks to the cuts that Trump implemented, I lost my Medicaid. I am a single mother. I work 2 jobs yet I can't afford insurance. So today I paid $100 for doctor's visit because that been my dr for years and for the first time ever, I felt like they brush everything I had to say aside. For the first time I felt like they didn't care. And even though I paid the fee, they made me feel like I didn't matter. I am so very disappointed in slucare. read more

My mom had appointments in the Opthomology department two weeks in a row, we had sit in a full waiting area, during a pandemic, for over and hour each visit. The second visit, she is still waiting to see the doctor. Appt was at 915. It is now 11:20. Not to mention she is a diabetic. (Why won't they just schedule patient visits further apart?). Dr. Dawn Davis is without a doubt the best primary doctor I have ever had. She is so attentive and thorough. She answers all questions and never seems to be in a hurry. I never had to wait more than 10 minutes to see anyone in the Family and Community Medicine at SLUcare. She looks at what is best for her patients and makes good suggestions for additional diagnostic tests for your age. Highly recommended! read more

The only reason I am giving 2 stars is because Dr. Mangalat is a great doctor. Slucare itself get -10. I took my daughter in for a GI consult at the office of Dr. Mangalat. I asked then if I could pay my 15$ copay and they said no we will bill the insurance first. Ok, no big deal usually until I got my bill for 148$. Slucare charges a facility fee which comes across to the insurance company as an out patient hospital visit Instead of a out patient office visit. So I was charged my deductible which is 150$. I went round and round for 30 days trying to get this changed. I was basically told by the Insurance company that hospitals can do this legally. Even though it's wrong. The office staff even said what they are doing is wrong and it's just another way to get more money. I will never step foot in another SLU care facility. I sure hope Dr Mangalat realizes what's going on and changes facilities or fixes the way things are done. Almost Everyone who I dealt with at slucare was very unhelpful and just kept giving mw more numbers to call. It's hard to find a primary care doctor these days who takes new patients. When my regular doctor decided to into concierge practice, I panicked. With some help from my insurance website, I stumbled into the SLUCare practice of Dr. Gillian Stephens. My first appointment took over an hour--and I'm not complaining. I know doctors are busy, but when I see one for the first time, I want them to know all about me. Dr. Stephens was patient, asked all the questions I needed, and LISTENED. Efficient, courteous, pleasant interactions with all staff and professionals.

I love my primary provider but each month I have to get my prescription refill signed off on by another doctor who seems to be rarely in office. I have been calling the refill in 48- 72 business hours in advance to ensure I have medicine on time. The last 3 months, my refill has been late by over 3 days even though I have taken proper measures to request it. I even have followed up with the location multiple times to check on the progress each month. The office administrator is polite and courteous but unable to move things along. You need to find a better system for keeping up to date on patient refills or require your doctors to review refill requests within a certain time frame. Leaving patients without medicine due to poor scheduling/response time is not professional. I will be changing providers. read more

This is for SLU Care General Internal Medicine suite 207 we waited at check in for 10 minutes and went upstairs amd they say were late but we waited for an hour and no one seen him so we rescheduled. We was not late and their systems are all jacked up, they tell you schedule 6 months out and the scheduler dont go out that far. So now we have to call and reschedule. They switch doctors and don't tell you. read more

This place is a joke. I've been sick for the past week and a half so I decide to call a doctor to set up an appointment. I've been to SLUcare in the past so I figured I'd try it again. I dial the number and the phone rings. After a couple minutes of waiting I reach a real person... "I'm sorry I'll have to transfer you to the Internal Medicine department." Next person... "I'm sorry I'll have to transfer you to a triage nurse." Next person... "I'm sorry we're out of appointments. You'll have to call back tomorrow to see if we have any appointments available." If I wanted to deal with an ER then I would deal with an ER. I'm so frustrated. read more

I'm a patient of Dr. Gillian Stephens and she is fantastic. She listens, she's caring, and she doesn't rush you through your appointments. Her wait time is a bit inconsistent but I think part of the issue there is that when you really need to talk with her, she sits and listens and asks questions and really talks your concerns through with you. I have had to spend a lot of time in this hospital over the last two months.i have to say that the nursing staff has been for the most part great.I wish I could say the same for the so called team of Drs that I Have had.I believe it to be called the blue team. I can't say that any dr on this team has done any thing that I have asked for.I have begged and pelted with these people to help get the pain that I have in my right leg and lower belly under control and it has been nothing but a fight. A doctor came in this after noon telling me that they were going to change my meds to a morphine pill.I then told the DR that I was allergic to morphine and it gave me hives and problems breathing in 2008 when I was given this med she then crossed he arms looked down at me and began drilling me on how I needed to take it that I couldn't stay on the med that I was on so after about 10 min of going back and forth with her I said that it was fine I would try the med.So I was given the med and after about 15 min or so I began to itch uncontrollably.That went on for about 15 mins.During all of this my boy friend arrived and say me it this uncontrollable itch fit and demanded that something be done to help. So after having more words with the Dr that ordered the med it became very heated in the room and I for the first time ever told the Dr to go to ----. There is only so much a person can take before they start to break.The team of Drs that I have who don't even knowe are calling the shoots to my care and when I said to the team Dr that my Dr that knows me and truly knows every thing that I have been trough cuz I took him All of my med records cuz I knew that would be the best way for him to help me. The team of Drs and him say two different things and I just wish that the dr that knows me could be the head of my care.I have laid in this bed in pain not understanding why each one says something different and wish and praying that some how the pain would just go sways to stay.i truly don't understand what I have done wrong to be treated this way this is just wrong it is not my fault that I have had to go trough all the surgeries and not my fault that I have had to spend so much time on these high powered meds I didn't do this to my self a Dr did this to me and this is wrong the way that I am being treated.For the Love of God Would someone please help me!!!!I can't say that all of my stays at St. Louis university have been bad because that is just not true but so far this on has been the worst hospital stay I have ever had read more

This review is for CADE (Orthodontic Dept) only. I went in a couple years ago to get a new set of retainers, I got impressions taken and went back to pick up the retainers, well something happened to one of the impressions and only one retainer was made (said the Dr.), I still paid for both and was to come back in to have the mold done another day as they didn't have time. Well I had an appointment to go back in something came up and I had to cancel it, then life happened and I forgot to reschedule. Fast forward a year or so. I've paid for 2 retainers, I only have one and now I desperately need the other one so I wanted to go back in and buy one, then get the one I already paid for. The woman I spoke to on the phone was extremely rude, and priced the retainers 2.5x as much as they were last year & they supposedly have no record of me paying for more than 1 retainer. Needless to say they can just keep the money, what a scam. So disappointed to see that this is a SLU facility, as in the past I've had a pretty good experience with SLUcare. read more

This review is for the Doctors Office Building, specifically suite 206. The doctors I saw were very nice--I had no problem with them. But I had a major problem with the nurse who took my vitals. She used an oral thermometer to take my temperature, which surprised me because I haven't been to a doctor who used an oral thermometer since I was a kid. But that's not a big deal. What is a big deal is the fact that she didn't have the protective plastic cap on the thermometer. I thought about it when she was taking my temperature, but I gave the nurse the benefit of the doubt and figured she must know what she was doing. But while waiting on the doctor, I looked at the thermometer hanging on the wall, and I saw the box of plastic caps that are supposed to be used. That's when I started to worry. So when the doctor came in, I asked if they sterilize the thermometers before each use. She told me no, but they use the disposable plastic caps for each person. When I told her that the nurse had definitely NOT used a plastic cap on the thermometer when she took my temperature, the doctor seemed shocked and apologized. Well, it is now 2 days later, and I'm pretty sick. This is RIDICULOUS that a mistake like this was made. I will never use Slucare again. read more

I have to say that I've never been wowed with my experience at the Slucare doctor's offices. (I hate having to pay $2 to park and to make sure I have it in cash) I mostly went there because a personal friend was a physician there and I really liked him. After he left to do full time mission work I continued to see another dr in the building Dr. Peri Pepmueller. I should have never returned when she required me to make an appointment to get my perfectly normal test results. As others have stated it does take like 20-30 min to check in. From driving forever to find a parking space, then waiting for them to even call you up to check in and then forever to check in and pay, then you are allowed to go to the Dr. office. I was 12 min late getting upstairs and I was told I could not be seen at my appt time but that I could wait to be seen. I had my 10 month old with me (also why I wasn't there the 20 min early to check in). A few hours later I was finally seen. I can't believe my daughter was okay with skipping her nap, although I paid for that later. I did get my basic blood work run so that was good. I filled out the form to get my results sent to me as well (so no appt just to hear everything was the same). Then the bill came. It turns out that my insurance was dropped from SluCare. I checked the web site of both Slu and my insurance just a few months earlier when I had made the appt and alerted the check in person of my new insurance. I tried calling Slu about the bill and explained that although I understood that ultimately I was responsible to pay the bill that I felt it irresponsible of them to not keep up to date records and for them no to know what insurance they accept. I asked for a courtesy write off of the remaining $30 bill. The customer service rep got very snotty with me and even the supervisor was horrible. I was not my best, but I was also very frustrated at there disregard and that they got so pissy so fast. They repeatedly cut me off and told me that I made the mistake and that they had no responsibility to keep track of what insurance they accept. After many calls with customer service I am going to just give up and pay the bill. I was like pulling teeth at every call to get the person on the other end to understand my situation and to get a clear answer. Very little compassion, lots of attitude! There are ways to still be caring even when there is nothing you can do, no need to just be a jerk about it. read more
