We went here to celebrate my husbands birthday. Our table was perfect! We sat by ourselves and had great view over the restaurant. The food concept were funny and it is based on the tastes. They combined drink and food in the perfect way. The best dish were "chili" steak tartare.

Normally, I don't get to indulge myself a lot while traveling so Smak was far from my own radar, but my host (a Stockholm native for 23 years) wanted to treat me to her favorite restaurant. The location seemed a little off the beaten path but still in a central location. The ambiance was a classy dimly lit space (dim enough that I was having issues reading the menu at first) with many sunken levels of seating. You chose how many plates/tastes you would like to order (all of the girls in our group ordered 5 and were completely satisfied, while the guys ordered 7) then get to circle them by selecting a specific flavor. Your tastes/plates are completely your own, so you can technically get 3 hearty dishes then 2 desserts or even just 5 desserts, if you wish (all the more flexibility when you chose 7 plates). Starting from the top of everyone's list then descending numerically, the waiters explained each dish as it was brought to the table. Two thumbs up for plating- each dish came out like a masterpiece. My personal favorite was the Wasabi dish-- spring rolls with crumbled wasabi peas inside to add a wonderfully contrasting crunch. The portion sizes do vary wildly so be forewarned, because there's a chance that you flat out get less food than your neighbor even if you order the same number of plates. Lastly, take a peek at the cocktail list that is also modeled after the same "taste" system. The rhubarb one was really great and had a nice summer flavor, which I would expect to be a novelty for many Americans (I know I wasn't familiar with the taste but really liked it). Expect a long dinner. The meal will go the speed of the person who ordered the most tastes. We waited with empty plates for two courses so those with 7 could catch up to us with 5 and us all eat the final plate (ie. dessert) together-- Ended up being a 3 hour meal altogether. Great experience though and extremely unique! Peruse the menu before you go, because it is actually really hard to narrow the ~20 options down to the 5 or 7 you want to eat!

Highly recommended. excellent selection of taste. Choose the dish base on the flavors you enjoy. I would say just go with the 5 course, we had 7 and we were super full. some recommended dishes are wagyu, ribeye, dessert was superb. Really need to use a map to find it, small sign you won't see it if you aren't purposely looking for it.

High quality and amazing service. It's a great place to go for a birthday dinner or something more formal. For my taste (which is in a lot of ways childish) it was a bit too fancy with all the flavors. But since that's not relevant - I think this restaurant deserves 5 stars!!! No question :)

Looks like this restaurant receives many awards. Authentic interior and perfect lunch place. I tried tuna salad which has great taste of cured tuna and veggies with sesame and soy sauce paste dressing. Asian fusion style and fefinitely wanna come back here to get the same dishes.

We went to Smak for my birthday dinner with our friends from Stockholm. There is no denying that it was a culinary experience :) When we arrived, our table wasn't ready, so we had to wait at the bar for a short while. When we were seated, the waitress explained the concept of Smak to us: you order by flavour, and you can chose to have three, five or seven courses. We went all out and ordered seven courses each. The portion size varies greatly between dishes. I was full at the end, so was my friend, but our better halves could have eaten more. I found the concept intriguing, but unfortunately Smak doesn't carry it off completely, I think. All dishes I had were very tasty (except the lemon flavour (scallop and cucumber) which lacked flavour), but many didn't taste very much of the flavour they were supposed to represent. For example, the dill flavoured one was excellent, but I didn't taste much dill. If you chose to sell your dishes by flavour, that flavour needs to shine in my opinion. However, we also discovered that people do seem to have different sensibilities when it comes to tasting a flavour: while I found that by basil flavoured dessert had strong but very nice basil flavour, my friend said she didn't taste much basil. Maybe it also has an impact of what dish you had before!? This is something they might need to work on. The service was very friendly. But it took forever. I think we waited about 30 min for our first course and another 30-45min for the second. That is definitely to long. I really liked the interior of the place. If you decide to go, I recommend you make a reservation. The place was fully packed on Friday night and I my friend said that she thinks it's not much better most nights.

We had just arrived that afternoon and were walking around our hotel to look for an early dinner. The dining room is lovely but not too stuffy or formal. We ordered the brown bread for starters, along with some wine and beer. I ordered the Arctic char (parsnip, chili, hazelnuts, browned butter and a soy glaze) and Paul G. went with the meatballs (hand-rolled and with cream sauce, mashed potatoes, lingonberries and pickled cucumber). We had the traditional Swedish meatball dish a few more times during the trip and they all came with the same components, but Bistro Bestick's was my fave. The sauce was heavier, velvety and creamy, and the potatoes were oh so fluffy. The berries were tart and fresh. I loved my fish, too... the hazelnuts, brown butter and soy were such a bright, unexpected combination. I enjoyed every bite. Don't sleep on dessert here! I couldn't even finish my dinner but still wanted to try the chocolate rum cake (salty caramel sauce, roasted peanuts, vanilla ice cream and crispy sesame) and what a delightful flavor explosion! It was beautifully presented and the sesame "cracker" on top was the perfect contrast to all the sweetness. I'd highly recommend BB!

Apparently I'm not the only one - since last I visited it is now placed on Michelin's Bib Gourmand list for Stockhom, and rightfully so. Upon entry you'll already feel a lovely blend of Swedish design and quirky aesthetic choices that signal you're in for a good experience. While the interior is tasteful, there are elements like chairs being mounted on the walls and a couple of the seatings being perched up on mounts near the front windows. Everyone who greets you and serves are very delightful, charming, and often funny, which really sets the tone wonderfully. The food itself is on the heartier side but all really well considered and delicious. We had the see bass ceviche with tomatoes (fresh, tangy, and complex) and iberico ham with parmesan (basic but very high quality ingredients), both of which were really delicious. The complimentary bread rolls and butter were really delightful, cooked with a bubbly crunchy texture that was delightful to chew. The main courses included their classic pork confit dish as well as another ibercio pork entree with white beans, cilantro, and chorizo - both were savory and very meat-forward but the star of the show was absolutely those white beans which were prepared in a very savoury sauce. Our total bill including a very good bottle of pinot noir from Napa Valley the bill came to around $240 USD. For the quality of the food, service, and attention to style, as well as the distinction of being a recognized place to eat in Stockholm, I would definitely recommend this place to any traveler who wants to experience local cusine in Stockholm.

Everything you'd need for the perfect meal out! They do not accept reservations and we went on a Sunday evening around 8:30 pm. We waited about 30 minutes, but boy was it worth it! We were seated at a cute little corner table that had pads on the benches, right next to a window to see the street. Lighting was dim and cozy. Service was the best I've had in recent memory. Our waitress was peppy despite having to deal with a long line and probably a long day. She was friendly, attentive, and so cheerful! 100/10. We started with the reindeer salad since my bf had never had reindeer before. While the reindeer seemed less cooked than expected, by the end he really liked the mix of flavors and thought it paired well with the salad. We both got the Swedish meatballs for our entrees and loved them! We both loved the pickled cucumbers and lingonberries. The lingonberries pair so well with the meat! While there are only 3 meatballs, they were so huge neither of us could finish all of them. Especially because I wanted to save room for dessert: the sponge cake! While it didn't look like much on presentation, it was surprisingly moist and the cream and berries were absolutely delicious. My bf said he was only going to have one bite (he's not a big dessert guy) but instead ended up eating half! Highly recommend! Overall would come back again just for the vibes, service, dessert, and to probably try another entree, which I'm sure would be good as well! Unfortunately, for most of the meal, the food itself didn't fully live up to the reputation. We ordered a pretty broad range of dishes. The herring was a bit of a miss for us and felt messy rather than memorable. The girls had the meatballs and a mushroom dumpling dish, but neither one really enjoyed their meal. Both dishes leaned very salty, to the point where it took away from the overall experience. I ordered the venison, which was fine, but not particularly special. It was one of those dishes that was technically okay, but didn't make me want to keep eating. I honestly didn't finish it. Mia ordered the cod, which looked good, but again, it didn't feel like anything spectacular or especially memorable. What completely changed the tone of the experience was the service. Toward the end of the meal, our server noticed that I hadn't eaten much. Without making a big deal out of it and without me asking for anything, he brought over a steak with potatoes and fries. That dish was excellent, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. More importantly, the gesture itself was incredibly thoughtful. That kind of hospitality is rare. He didn't have to do it. I wasn't complaining, and I wasn't expecting anything. I was prepared to leave the meal as-is. But the fact that he noticed and cared enough to make the experience better says a lot about the service and the professionalism of the staff. So while the original food we ordered was hit-or-miss, the service elevated the evening in a major way. The meal itself may not have been excellent across the board, but the hospitality was. For me, this ends up being a four-star experience: not because every dish landed, but because the staff turned what could have been a disappointing dinner into something memorable.
