Great food English menu Helpful staff A real taste of Sweden Lingonberries were incredible

"God" is good. It's good lager.

Around the corner from the hotel and super crowded when I arrived at 5:30 pm on a weekday. This is an after-work watering hole! Beer for me, wine for my friend and a super funny bartender who made the two rounds of drinks quite enjoyable even if it was elbow-to-elbow at the bar. Prices are reasonable and the beer is cold. They might have good here. I have no idea. [Review 18738 overall - 72 in Sweden - 2261 of 2022.]

    Potato pancakes with pork

We initially didn't think twice about this restaurant as it was immediately next to our hotel. We assumed that it was sort of a tourist trap. However, after a few days of being in Stockholm, we realized that the place was always packed and there appeared to be locals there. So, we stopped by one day for lunch and the daily specials were potato pancakes with pork, salmon, moussaka, and spring rolls. The potatoes with pork seemed to be very popular among the diners. We tried an order of that along with an order of salmon. The meal was served with an unlimited salad bar and bread basket. They also have flavored waters, sodas, beers on tap, and a full bar. The flow is that you order at the register and then they bring the food out to you. The food is definitely well prepared and seasoned. The orange beurre blanc that accompanied the salmon was delicious and adding a hint of lemon to it really brightened it. The salmon was fresh and flaky and the accompanying small amount of vegetables and few potatoes were good. My dining partner thoroughly enjoyed the potato pancakes and the pork, which had the appearance of bacon. I wish we'd have explored the menu at Bla Dorren sooner as we certainly would've visited again for dinner if we'd had time.

We tried the meatballs, beef hash and a fried chevre dish and were pleased with all the dishes. We are constantly impressed with how fresh and flavorful all the vegetable dishes are and loved the hash! The service is not super attentive but it was busy during lunch.

Neighborhood Swedish restaurant. Friendly staff. Good food with a welcome inviting outdoor space (even during summer 2024 construction) and dining area inside.

    Caesar salad (incredibly overdressed)

The food wasn't great, considering the price. This place gets great reviews, but in the end it wasn't worth it. We ordered the pickled herring, the fried herring, and 1/2 Caesar salad. Firstly, the pickled herring starter came at the same time as everything else, and it was pretty good. The fried herring was just okay, and the Caesar salad was overdressed so much that it was inedible. In addition, the chicken on top was too salty and overcooked. All in all, expectations weren't met and I would not recommend this restaurant.

The building is very old and the ambiance was very Nordic charming. There were tall candles and checkerboard tablecloths. If you were lucky enough to get seating outside, there's a brilliant water view as you're facing the bridge. We ordered: - Raraka (138 SEK) - Pytt i Panna (150 SEK) - Pils 30 cl (66 SEK) - 3cl Kajsa Varg (54 SEK) The raraka med lojrom is potato pancake with roe and it was good. The pytt i panna is a Swedish hash and it was okay. Also, snaps are shots, not soda. I did not realize the Kajsa Varg was a shot. Overall, even though it's an establishment, it wasn't super tasty. Come for the ambiance and the view, not the food.

I can't remember what the drink was! Delish.

If you are in Stockholm, you need to have a meal here. We loved the atmosphere, the natural light with the tall candles on each table, and the amazing service - Linda was the bomb!!!! I can't remember which red meat dish I got but it was so good. I needed only a butter knife and the meat melted in my mouth. Don't expect a lot of asparagus - I only had two, but this dish was all about meat. The Swedish Meatballs looked good and our friends really enjoyed them. I had an after dinner drink that was recommended by Linda and it was fantastic. We were probably louder than other patrons - sorry!! But we really liked the ambience and were having a great time.

The Old Town (Gamla Stan) of Stockholm is full of tourist attractions (Nobel Museum and the Royal Palace, just to name two) as well as many touristy restaurants. But if you are willing to walk another 15 minutes and venture outside the tourist zone, there are many local gems to be found. Blå Dörren, literally translated as the blue door, was located in a classic building built in the 1600's. Through the years many businesses have occupied the place and in 1993 the restaurant took over the location and opened its doors. This was a restaurant with a lively, loud, and pub-like atmosphere and the place was filled with mostly locals. Yes, exactly the kind of place that a traveling foodie's adventure will take you to! This was our first real traditional Swedish meal ever, so we both ordered the meatballs. Well, just like many of you, the only Swedish meatballs that I've ever had up to this point were from Ikea, so there was really no basis for comparison. So we ended up ordering Swedish meatballs from three different restaurants during our trip. And let me tell you, the ones here were the best! The meatballs were made with beef as the menu stated. (In Sweden, don't assume that your meatballs are made with beef, as they can be made with a variety of meats, including deer meat. If you are not sure, always ask!) They had a rich peppery flavor which we liked a lot. The meatballs were soft, moist, and flavorful. They were accompanied by a delicious tarragon cream sauce that nicely enhanced the flavor of the meat. The dish also came with a small pickled cucumber salad, lingonberries (which seemed to accompany every meatball dish that we've ordered), and a generous portion of mashed potatoes. I also had a couple of an amazing Swedish draft beer called Nils Oscar God (god in Swedish means good) to complement the amazing meatballs. The pairing was close to perfect. I'm a fan now and I'll certainly be back the next time I'm in Stockholm.

This restaurant was right around the corner from the hotel. It was very nice. The real candles on each table made it very unique. Food was great.

A walk across the bridge from Gamla Stan old town to Slussen, The Blue Door is a great place to end the day with a warm meal and a mug of beer. The atmosphere is a great place to take out of town guest and give them a glimpse back into a 17th century Scandinavian beer hall with high ceilings and wooden panels. If you don't have a reservation, try to get there early for a table or space at the bar while waiting. After a few beers at the bar, our waiter was really helpful and squeezed us into an open table before the dinner rush crowds arrived. For a starter, we ordered an assortment of pickled herring (4 kinds) to share among the three of us, served with Swedish cheese, sour cream etc. Goes great with the beer! We had ordered a large bowl of the Goulash soup, and when a server brought us the bowl she mentioned it was a great order and we were going to enjoy it. Enjoy we sure did! I had requested a couple extra small bowls for us to split, and we were so surprised by how wonderful it tasted. I was just expecting a nice bowl of hot soup after coming in from the walking in the cold, surpassed our expectations. Next our two mains arrived, Swedish classics using traditional Scandinavian culinary techniques of slow-cooked meals and as usual I love sharing with friends. The first main was the Pyett Bellman, friend meat, sausage, onions and potatoes in a creamy gravy, with beetroots. The Pyett Bellman was ok, but kind of a miss for me, try some other mains. However, for our 2nd main a must try is the Elks Meatball while visiting Sweden. The juicy ligonberries really gave a Swedish Christmas feel to the plate of elk meatballs with cream sauce, mashed potatoes and pickled cucumbers. Tasty and fun for our 2nd main. Overall, friendly service, good tasting Swedish classics, and good value for their range of bottled wines and draught beers (next time will try the local Aquavit liquor!).

Ok food for the price. Good bread basket. Many local beers to try. Had the meatballs....nothing memorable. Herring plate was good to try to taste variety of herring. Nice atmosphere. Staff was busy and didn't have much time to explain things. No wifi.

I'm sorry to say that I don't speak Swedish (I wish I did I can tell you) but he was able to communicate with me and for that I will always be grateful. My plate had, if I recall correctly, four breaded and fried herring fillets. It had a coleslaw (which I found a surprising addition, creamy mashed potatoes, pickled cucumbers, red onions, and a little wedge of crispbread. I loved every bite. It was a generous plate. I particularly enjoyed eating a combination of the potatoes, cuke, onion, and fish on a corner of the crispbread as I munched away. There are a few nearby picnic type tables. So there was a place I could sit and enjoy this meal overlooking the water and a corner of the old town. If you find yourself in Stockholm, do yourself a favor and go to here. Even if you think you don't like herring, try it this way. I bet you'd be surprised.

Everything you'd need for the perfect meal out! They do not accept reservations and we went on a Sunday evening around 8:30 pm. We waited about 30 minutes, but boy was it worth it! We were seated at a cute little corner table that had pads on the benches, right next to a window to see the street. Lighting was dim and cozy. Service was the best I've had in recent memory. Our waitress was peppy despite having to deal with a long line and probably a long day. She was friendly, attentive, and so cheerful! 100/10. We started with the reindeer salad since my bf had never had reindeer before. While the reindeer seemed less cooked than expected, by the end he really liked the mix of flavors and thought it paired well with the salad. We both got the Swedish meatballs for our entrees and loved them! We both loved the pickled cucumbers and lingonberries. The lingonberries pair so well with the meat! While there are only 3 meatballs, they were so huge neither of us could finish all of them. Especially because I wanted to save room for dessert: the sponge cake! While it didn't look like much on presentation, it was surprisingly moist and the cream and berries were absolutely delicious. My bf said he was only going to have one bite (he's not a big dessert guy) but instead ended up eating half! Highly recommend! Overall would come back again just for the vibes, service, dessert, and to probably try another entree, which I'm sure would be good as well!
