Not only do I enjoy popping into Smallcakes for their daily cupcakes now and then, but we recently had them cater the desserts for our wedding. Five phenomenal flavors, plus gluten free options for my husband's cousins with celiac. They were a hit- I'm so glad we ordered extra to freeze for ourselves upon our return from our honeymoon because there wasn't a single one left on the tables. I know there are a lot of cupcake places in the Omaha area, but you should at least check this place out once, at least! It's really cute inside and the person behind the counter was super nice and helpful. They have a large selection of daily cupcakes and ones they have all the time. Unbelievable!! My daughter and her friend waited all day for a cupcake and I promised to take them after dinner. We headed over there at 615 (they close at 7) and arrived at 625 to find they were closed due to running out of cupcakes!!! I have no idea why they like this place because every time we've gone here the customer service is horrible and the cupcakes are just "ok". But after seeing the disappointment on their little faces (the saddest, upside down smiles I've ever seen) I'll only take them to Jones Bros cupcakes. The cupcakes are stacked on cake tiers behind the glass and look like perfect tv cupcakes. With Jones Bros here in Omaha, I wondered how long this cupcakery will last.... Until I tasted one! See, Jones Bros has been featured on Food Network and a winner on cupcake wars. I have been there, and found that we all (5 of us) could not eat more than half a cupcake because it was so sugary. Smallcakes was a perfect not-too-sweet cupcake! We tried 5 different cupcakes, and since I'm the mom, got to try them all! We bought "Cookies & Cream", "Birthday Cake", "Cookie Dough", "Salted Caramel", and "Lemon Drop". Lemon Drop had a surprise of lemon curd in the middle. All of them were delicious, moist, almost falling apart, and melting in my mouth. The frosting was also smooth and creamy, and not too sweet. I loved it so much I bought a t-shirt that says "Cupcakes are a girls best friend". After us just moving to this area, and trying Smallcakes for the first time, I don't mind being free advertisement. The girl at the counter was polite however it is annoying when you go out of your way to purchase something and you are turned away. I have always been a big fan of Smallcakes. Their cakes are not overwhelmed with frosting. So I don't find myself scraping the top just to get to the cake. At first I used them because of convenience. I needed 50 custom designed cupcakes for a kindergarten graduation. Smallcakes was in my neighborhood so I decided to order there. But once I tried the cupcakes, I was sold!! They also did a greAt job coloring the frosting to look like Dr Seuss' Oh the Places You will go. I recently ordered a Patriots themed birthday cake from them for my husband's 40th birthday. I also ordered cake pops and cupcakes to go with the theme. For a small fee, they delivered and set up the dessert table at the venue. Our guests were impressed with the cake! A couple of them had two to three slices! I recently stopped in to get my cupcake fix. I am a big cupcake fan and like to try a new place out whenever i get the chance. This is the second time i have been here and have ran into the exact same experience this time as the first. The cupcakes were okay, but in my opinion there were a couple issues. I thought the cake itself was dry and lacked flavor when standing alone, which is why i think they inadvertently created the second issue which was the icing. It was extremely heavy and there was way too much of it. It was way too thick. Rarely can i say that something is too sweet, way too rich and too heavy. This was one of those times. Absolutely Love this place, I was doing an Aladdin themed birthday party and it was close to impossible to find anyone including Cake Gallery to do anything Aladdin for me. I called Small Cakes they said send them a picture via email and they will do it, found adorable Aladdin themed cupcakes and sent over the picture. I had them do the cream cheese frosted cup cakes with the design in buttercream and they were amazing!! Went in late evening to visit their shop. The same set up as the old market area shop, a tv playing video/ music, no coffee here, bring your own. They have a large selection, but when I arrived, only some flavors left. Person taking care if us was friendly, informative. I had the choc ho lic cupcake. I usually cut into because if you bite in it may fall apart and onto your clothes and floor. It was very soft and fell apart,it should be a little firm, the bread had a good taste, the chocolate frosting was not too sweet, but I don't think it was real chocolate, didn't taste like real dark or milk chocolate, could be a chocolate flavoring from a bottle , not sure. I would need to taste the others to tell you if it's true fruit flavoring or artificial . I tried several cupcakes from around the US & I give it a 3 star rating, average to good, nothing exceptional. read more
