With or without kids, if you like spending time with pushy, begging, adorable animals, this is a fun little stop-off. The people at this business are super friendly. It was odd- we were driving around and needed to go into Wenatchee for some items we forgot back at home, and as we drove past the many properties that had llamas, I told Claire "I wanna go play with llamas. Wonder what the property owners would say if I went to their door and told them that?" About five minutes later we pass a sign that offers to allow you to feed and pet... LLAMAS! Among other animals. We were tired of being in the car and we're overgrown children, so we turned in and went to spend some time with goats, pigs, freaking precious mini cows, a bratty mini horse who loves to agitate a very sensitive mini donkey, said agitated mini donkey, poultry of all types, bunnies, and a smiley little pig with her sparkling new baby piglet. We easily killed an hour here. I got to play with my llamas. Claire got to spoil her favorites- the chickens. read more

OMG. What a find! Just stumbled upon this stand/store as we were departing Leavenworth for home. It is freaking amazing! You'd think my kids, 12 & 15 yr old girls who are jaded in most "kiddie" things, you'd think they'd not be so interested in the "cow ride" (individual cow carts connected together and driven around fields by a guy driving a John Deere tractor). You'd think they'd not be interested in tire swings and photo placards with holes to put your face through. You'd think they'd not be interested in duck ponds and alpacas and petting zoos. You'd be wrong! They were as excited as kids in a candy store. Literally and figuratively! This brings me to the store... Wow. This place is huge. And it has the largest selection of condiments, mixes and jams and jellies of any place I've ever been. Salad dressings, barbeque rubs and sauces, mustards, oils, pickled everything, pastas, I could go on and on. Seriously, I could. Because there are SO many gourmet foods here, it was a little overwhelming for me. There are chocolates and fudges and gourmet pretzels. Scone and muffin and bread mixes. Everything looks so beautiful, too, displayed clearly and very appetizingly. When you enter the store, there is an area with Anne Taintor merchandise (sooo funny) and women's jewelry, and then some body lotions and scrubs and lip glosses. Connected to the store to the north is a small but awesome kitchen goods section, with the coolest Bodum salt and pepper shakers and all sorts of cooking and baking tools. I got my mom a fabulous kitchen towel (great place for gifts!), and I saw lots of cooking items I personally would love but haven't the room for (or the need, quite frankly. But I love this stuff!). Sleek kitchen timers, silicone measuring spoons, butter crocks, etc. If we didn't have to hit the road, we could easily have spent many hours here. What an awesome and unexpected surprise it was to find this place! I've been to Leavenworth so many times I lost count, and had never heard of this place; a "hidden jewel" for cliche's sake. The selection of jams, fruit spreads, honeys, sauces, pickled yummies, candy, etc., is enough to keep you busy for 1/2 a day. The kids had a blast as we made our way though the water balloons-war tower, the petting/feeding zoo, the tractor-cows ride, the tricycle racing arena, the chicken coup aka. Egg Factory, the ice cream shop, and the park. I highly recommend this place as an alternative to the typical Leavenworth experience. We thought we loved this place until we realized that the fees we bought had Oat mites and the three of us that fed the animals are covered in more bites.... Two of the peaches we bought were still firm and as they felt a little ripe just a day later I cut them open.... the pots were growing and slightly moldy. :( I did find the staff to be very nice though... and the fudge was good but filled with loads of nasty artificial ingredients so I couldn't bring myself to eat anymore of just the taste. We stopped in this tourist trap after having lunch in Leavenworth. There was a nice assortment of produce for sale, but many of the prepared items such a jams are "produced for" Smallwoods. I suppose families with small children will enjoy the animals, but I could not wait to get out of there. read more

What a great treasure! We found this place last weekend on the way home and will return many times as the kids grow up. They have a great country store, mostly with local products although some are packaged from very far away, a petting zoo, and they have a nice outdoor space for picnic lunches or one of the many festivals. We purchased jams and jellies, candy, dried fruit, honey, chocolate raisins, and a few mixes for the bread machine. We were happy with all of the foods we picked up. They have a geat coffee hut outside and then we visited the animals, which helped tire out the kids before the drive home. read more

Super cute farm stand with small petting zoo a couple minutes outside of Leavenworth. We stopped to get some jams and jellies (they have a huge selection of bottled things you can take home as souvenirs--a little pricey, though) and saw that the petting zoo area was open. It's a couple bucks for entry and another buck for feed and it was well worth it. The kids and adults loved it and so did the farm animals. They know they are going to get fed and come running over to eat the goodies gently out of your hands. They're all super cute. They had goats, llamas, ostriches, a mini horse, pigs, chickens, swans, and a peacock. The farm stand also has a little "train" for kids, a maze (it was closed when we were there), and a couple other fun things like playground toys for the kids. It was a nice 30 minute stop for the family if you enjoy playing tourist! read more

The human inhabitants of this planet appear to be easily amused. Our background research led us to the misapprehension that an "amusement park" was a designated recreation area dedicated to startling visitors with experiences of speed, height and circular motion. Upon visiting Smallwoods we discover an "amusement park" may be as simple as a large inflatable castle ($3 a bounce), wooden maze structure ($1), or simulated discovery of simulated ore ($3). Additional activities without charge include hitting a spherical object on a pole, and sitting on a round black disc like the ones the humans use on their vehicles. From our observations it appears these activities are primarily intended for the amusement of offspring. My first officer remarked on the custom these humanoids have of imprisoning non-sentient species, a practice that was in evidence at Smallwoods. The prisoners included several long-necked gregarious creatures known as "alpaca", swine who we were instructed to feed through a tube, goats, long-legged birds we strongly suspect of being the legendary emu, and a small member of the cattle species allegedly imprisoned for the crime of possessing a lame leg that precludes it from participating in its species' usual lifestyle of being milked and ultimately eaten. Despite our reservations about the local justice system, at least with respect to non-humanoids, it must be noted that the younger members of our crew were enormously delighted with their experience at both the prison and amusement park. With the sole exception of their discomfort at discovering an unidentified liquid in the so-called "bouncy castle", they were enthusiastic about all aspects of their experience, and even refrained from looking at their tricorders for a full hour. read more

I stopped at Smallwood's Harvest for one reason, to purchase freshly picked fall apples. I found a bin of Jonathans, a rare find these days and one of my favorites from childhood. However, when I got home with the apples were disappointing. The apples had already lost their fall crispness, that pressure and resistance that only truly fresh apples have, and were slightly mealy. If supermarkets in Seattle can sell fresh crisp apples, albeit not Jonathans, why are all of the apples I've purchased over the years in little shops that are close to the orchards in Wenatchee and Leavenworth less than crisp and fresh? read more

This place was more fun the first time we came- they carry a TON of jams, jellies, sauces, snacks, honeys- all kinds of stuff, and they had samples of everything out, which was cool. We visited this past weekend before lunch, so maybe we were too early for the samples. It's still fun to check out all that they carry. My husband pointed something out to me that made it a lot less cool though- and that's that the products they carry aren't really made there. It's all "made FOR Smallwood's Harvest", and some of the products don't even list WHERE they are actually made. So it was a lot cooler when I thought it was all local stuff, but nope, it isn't. It's just a tourist trap. But an interesting one, if you like that kind of stuff. read more

This store has many amazing products, a little pricey, but good for a splurge. Unfortunately the three employees we saw wore their masks on their chins! Noses and mouths exposed. The young man at the register did not bother to pull his mask up during that close encounter. He seemed to become annoyed when I kept moving away from him. They obviously believe that their comfort is a "right". They also seem to believe they have a " right" to recklessly endanger other's lives. I'm glad my 98 year old mother decided to stay in the car while my daughter and I shopped. They won't get my business again. Oh, and all of the customers we saw were wearing masks! read more

My wife and I stopped in on 7/1/20 and were shocked to see not one employee wearing a face mask. We're in the middle of a pandemic, there is a state order saying you need to wear masks, and you work around produce! The owner has a responsibility to provide a safe working environment for employees and a safe shopping environment for patrons...they failed on both fronts. I won't ever be back. read more

Hubby and I were in Wenatchee visiting his family and we decided to go to Leavenworth for a day. On the way back to Wenatchee we decided to stop at Smallwood's and check it out. What a fun stop! You could shop all the jams, jellies, honey, and assorted other snacks all day long - they have lots of samples too. They had an irish creme honey that was delish and really yummy carmel corn. Altough we didn't walk away with either. Lots of maple syrups and scone/pancakes mixes looked good. We picked up some cherries, pears, and some aplets and cotles at my husband's request. We don't have kids, but it looks like a great place to go if you do. They had a large petting-zoo type area and a water balloon-shooting game. This is a great source for pickles that aren't full of preservatives and high fructose corn syrup. We also usually grab some fresh fruit while we are there. One really great perk is the play area for kids. We came with a 4 year old and a 2 year old and they had a great time. They have swings and a few other play areas but what I liked the most was they big tricycle track. It's a paved circle with a giant sandpit in the middle. They have a bunch of tricycles of all different sizes and sand toys. read more

Was telling people who were simply checking the ripeness of peaches to stop "molesting" them (I was watching, they were not ruining the fruit or doing anything wrong). I have stopped here a few times while traveling Highway 2. Always a good stop with lots of home grown items to look at. That kettle corn is the BEST I've ever tasted (and I've had lots of different kettle corn over the years). Light & fluffy with that great combination of salty/sweet. The store is a huge store full of interesting gifts and foods. Nice local fruit too. The petting zoo is fun. I have never brought kids here (they're grown) so I've never seen the kid activities. Very nice place to stop and check out the store. We do each year we visit the area. They have good produce and a fairly large store (hard to tell from outside) but inside it's big. They have a lot of spices, sauces, dressings, and a lot more. The layout is spacious so you don't feel crammed in while shopping. read more

Their checkout scale over weighed my produce by 30%. I Bought four boxes of apples from the bulk bins that weighed in at 21 lbs. each box on the outside bin analog scale. Cashier weighed same boxes of apples on his digital scale at 27 1/2 lbs. each. I told him the weight of each was 21 lbs. on the outside scale. He said those scales were not accurate and they go by the cashier scale. When we got home, I weighed each box on my home scale and found they were in fact 21 lbs. each. I paid for 107 lbs. of apples for only 80 lbs worth, due to their digital scale over-weighing by more than 30%. Perhaps their scale needs to be re-calibrated....but off by more than 30%? Hmmm....Be careful of this place. read more

The petting zoo is partially an animal rescue which is terrific. We have a toddler and he had a blast, from the trikes to animals to mini grocery carts. Yes. You are asked to pay a small fee (1-2 dollars) for specific entertainment, which we did happily. These places aren't free to maintain and it's annoying people expect others to provide them entertainment at the owners expense. We vote go!! Great fun - and plenty of room for little ones to play. read more

This is a cool place! We went to the Easter event, and it was a bit chaotic and unorganized. But the kids loved the petting zoo. The llamas were great fun. My family grew up raising llamas, so they have a special place in our heart! We loved how curious and friendly they were. They had a naughty goat next to them though,who climbed the fence and hit me in the shoulders with his hooves. He also head butted my nephew. Haha. The egg hunt was a mad house. My youngest son really wanted to do it, but the second the kids all started running, he shut down. I was so appreciative to find that they had a special needs egg area. He was able to go in, pick 10 eggs at ha own pace, in an uncrowned and calm environment. I think they are amazing for having that available. We ate hot dogs, the kids jumped on the bouncy house, and we even went on a hay ride to the top of the orchard. It was beautiful up there!! We are excited to come back in October for their pumpkin farm! read more

This is an update to my previous review because since that time we now have a child and have gone to Smallwood several times as a family and with our daughter's pre-school. As other reviewers have noted, this is a convenient place to kill some time. Sadly, that convenience now comes at a higher price. Rather than one price to do everything, you have to pay for most options (cow ride, bouncy house, maze, petting zoo, etc.) Over the past year, they have increased their prices to the point that, if you are spending an afternoon here, the $2 and $3 nickel and dimeing you for everything really begins to add up. In addition, all family members are charged for every offering - no more accompanying your small child for free on the cow ride, for example. So that is disappointing. In addition, again as noted by other reviewers, the "made for Smallwood" items are not local and are of mediocre quality. Better to go to Pybus Market (esp on Sat) for that. The fruit and vegetables are typically ok but anything from the ice cream area is hit or miss. I have had the worst strawberry ice cream (certainly not a complex offering) of my life here, with the consistency of ancient ice-infused permafrost, generously layered with that kind of "skin" ice cream gets when it has been in the freezer way past its expiration date. Based on our experiences, Smallwood is best enjoyed when you come with a group, bring picnic lunches, and access the petting zoo along with the free options and the fun activities you do with your group. More enjoyable in the late spring, when the temps are reasonable and they finally have enough staff for everything, than in the heat of middle August. Oh, and you may want to bring your own desserts. read more

Nice place to visit near Leavenworth. Animals are eager to engage to get food which is purchased onsite. Place has character too. Only downside is that it is located at a turn near a busy highway, with no guardrail protecting the zoo and play area. Kind of freaky I think and they should add a guardrail. read more

I stop at this place every time I travel to eastern Washington. Thru have done very unique items and specialty ingredients for great quick soups. Nice break stop to let the kiddos run and stretch their legs. They have a fun cow train for kids and a petting zoo. Get out, stretch your legs, look around, and find something unique to take home :) read more

We bought a box of apples at Smallwood's Harvest recently. We were told they were just picked that a.m. 3 days later they were so soft they were mushy. Others were brown & bruised. We had asked for apples that we could use for fresh eating but we had to cook what we could save & dump the rest. We emailed Smallwood's to explain how disappointed we were with their product. No response from them at all. It's not that we expected our $ back but a simple "sorry" would have gone a long way. Our family will certainly buy our fruit elsewhere from now on. read more

So disappointed with the employees at this place. Brought my 3 kids by today and we're treated so poorly by two separate workers. One was upset when I asked where the location of the restroom was.....if you don't like working with the public- find a new job!
