If customer relations is anything like the management is, I doubt I'll even get a response: "For 3 years I've been living here. There's an S&F around the corner and I never stopped in until the other day. My issue is with a female employee who accosted me as I was walking around. She was carrying a box, filling shelves I suppose, stared daggers and asked if there was anything I needed. I related to her that I had been living here for a while and was just looking around after finally stopping in for the first time. Her comment in reply to that was "Great, well I hope to see you back so you can spend lots of money here!". Which was just incredibly rude and self-assured me to not bother making another appearance again if the first employee I spoke to can not treat me as a person, rather as a cash-register instead. I was in here yesterday looking for red velvet cake mix, I simply asked BRENDA if the new shipment was in yet or if it was in the back because they didn't have any out on the floor... in the RUDEST way she said "We don't have anything in the back." Coming here was such a waste of my time and I don't expect to come back anytime soon. You lost my service and my money. I called another smart and final (new garden grove) I spoke to James and Janet and they were so nice and are currently looking in the back for me right now. Every time I go to this store I have the worst experience thanks to Rowena. I like the store and I frequently visit the store but she is messing up the whole store and leaving a really bad view of it. I don't know what she's doing there when she doesn't have any sense of customer service. She is very rude, she has an attitude, she tells you what to wear or not to wear regarding to the customer's protection, like she says not to wear gloves, when that's none of her business! She's always making comments and minding other people's business, and that's why she's never putting attention to her job ! Which is the only thing she's supposed to be doing ! She doesn't have the right to raise her voice to customers ! The way she talks makes you feel uncomfortable and annoyed, she's so bossy and she's not supposed to treat customers like that. I ordered from smart and final website to have an order delivered to me not only was my order incomplete I was still charged for everything I ordered. I called the store and the manager said not their problem. I reached out to smart and final online customer relations and they said too bad. I waited to make sure if anyone else from corporate responded to my request no one ever did. Never will order anything from their website and during these times I order 90% online. I gave 3 star only because besides the manager all other employees are respectful. Never will I order online. read more

This grocery store is super convenient as it's right around the corner from my new apartment so I come here regularly to get groceries. While you can't always find everything you absolutely need (particularly in the produce department, you have to be a bit flexible with what you're looking for although they always have the standards like lettuce, spinach, bananas, etc), you can find almost everything and often for a bit less than in other grocery store chains like Vons, Ralphs and Albertsons. read more

Last Friday my wife went to this store and was asked by a cashier named Elena if she was paying with EBT. My wife was both stunned and offended and the cashier knew it by my wife's response, but she did not apologize. It's not that we have anything against people on assistance. Some families would not survive without it. But every customer, regardless of whether they are receiving assistance or not, deserves the respect of not being put on the spot in front of a line full of people by an ignorant cashier. I emailed Smart & Final about this incident and received an email back from the store manager Thomas Chau apologizing for the, "misunderstanding", and that the cashier mistook my wife's card for an EBT card so that she wouldn't be charged for bags. I've shopped at Smart & Final as well as pretty much every other grocery chain in the Southern California area and I've never heard anyone asked aloud if they were paying by EBT. In fact, I believe there is a button on the swipe machine to inform the cashier of mode of payment. My wife was asked this as she was putting her things on the conveyor before she presented her card. A card, by the way, that is a bright red Bank of America card with her photo on it that looks like nothing that even closely resembles an EBT card. Maybe it was because my wife had changed into a t shirt and sweatpants after a long day at work before heading out to do some shopping, I can't say for certain . What is certain is that Elena the cashier made a judgement call and she was wrong to do so. It's the sad state of retail and why businesses like Amazon are now taking over the grocery business. Instead of a sincere apology and an assurance that staff would be better trained so that they don't insult paying customers, (incidentally, businesses have to apply to accept EBT, so they absolutely want that business too), instead I received a patronizing email apologizing about the fact that my wife was apparently too stupid to realize Elena, (who must be the greatest cashier ever and couldn't possibly be in the wrong), just asked her a simple question that she asks every single customer in the course of the day. Because of the way my wife was treated and Smart & Final's unacceptable response we will never shop at any of their stores again. In case you read this lengthy,(sorry), review and have come to the conclusion that I'm overreacting, ask yourself how you'd feel if you or your significant other were asked in front of a line full of people, "So you gonna pay for this with food stamps?". Went to visit this location for the first time today. After reading some of the reviews I was concerned about how this store would be but entering into the store I noticed that it was very clean. Their produce was well stocked and clean. Most of the items I went in for was stocked and i also noticed that their bathrooms are locked which are great! Keeping them clean and not having to walk in on a homeless guy showering. But one thing that stood out from my shopping trip was the cashier. My cashier was Elena and right off the bat I can tell she does not speak english well. She tries her best to communicate but she does have a very heavy accent. I think it is wonderful that Smart & Final gave this employee an opportunity for employment where other stores would of probably turned her away. She smiled at me the entire time and tried to make conversation. Great Employee! I think I would come back to just shop and be checked out by this amazing individual. read more
