Avoid this Smart & Final (Woodley & Devonshire). I placed a pickup order and the app told me to park and wait for curbside. I waited 15 minutes with no update, then called and was told to come inside because they were "too busy." Inside, no one offered to help. My order was sitting at the register, and I had to ask an employee to help me find it--he was the only one who actually stopped and assisted. Dear Smart & Final Management, I would like to bring to your attention an experience my mother and I recently had at one of your stores that left us feeling uncomfortable and embarrassed. While we were in line to pay for our groceries, the cashier called our attention and asked if we were reselling the items we had purchased or if we were sending them to the Philippines. The question was asked loudly in front of other customers who were waiting in line, making the situation awkward and humiliating. The cashier further commented, "This is not fair, the government is giving her assistance and we're sending it to our family in the Philippines." This remark was especially upsetting and made us feel as though we were being interrogated. The entire interaction was inappropriate and unprofessional, and it left both my mother and me feeling disrespected and singled out. I just hope that experiences like this do not happen to other customers at Smart & Final. We have been loyal shoppers for a long time and truly appreciate the store and its service. Customer service here just isn't the same anymore. Ever since Nick with the fabulous hair was transferred, the whole vibe changed. He was always friendly, professional, and on top of everything -- you could feel the difference when he was running the front. Now the staff is rude, unhelpful, and honestly not welcoming at all. I was happy to discover that this Smart & Final location had everything I needed for a large scale event, including all the essential paper goods, 10 cases of pies, and the convenience of online ordering. The Store Manager, Mario was extremely helpful and kind in ensuring the items would be in stock and available. It was my first time setting foot in this particular store, which I understand was recently remodeled. It is very well organized, and the display of produce and florals is beautiful. I come here for items that are in bulk which are great overall . However the produce recently these past few weeks is poor quality . If the onions or tomatoes are rotting why are they still on the shelf ? Why not Jst remove them ?? This is my go-to store - such a convenient location on my way home from work. I always find everything I need whether it's a few items for dinner, the weekly groceries, flowers, gift cards, party plates, and my favorite sweets. The employees are always so helpful, and it's very obvious that whoever is running the store takes great pride in the merchandise and the cleanliness of the store. The only constructive suggestion I can offer is to have more of employees available at cash registers versus sending people to self check-out. read more

I had a frustrating experience at this Smart & Final location that I feel needs to be shared. I was using the self-checkout, and not only was there a long line with just one regular cashier open, but both Maria and Mario were nearby--just standing around talking. At no point did they offer to help or even acknowledge the growing line of customers needing assistance. It was really disappointing to see employees more focused on their conversation than doing their jobs. I understand people can chat at work, but not when customers are clearly struggling or waiting too long. It felt like I was being ignored completely. I've decided I'll be shopping at Costco from now on. They always have multiple registers open, staff ready to assist, and the customer service is way better. My only real complaint with this location is the lot. It's small & since everything is one way, it is hard to navigate. Throw in that so many people park horribly and take up multiple spots, it can take awhile to find a spot that you not only can get into, but get out of your car. Once you're inside, the experience is much better. I've never had to interact with the employees beyond checkout but they're always friendly and good for a nice quick chat. I will say that I often wish they had one or two more checkouts open, but I get that we're currently in a staffing shortage all over the place. Hopefully that is a temporary inconvenience. I went there like 5 minutes ago and this lady named SELENA on her name tag was rude. I like this store but her customer service sucks. Last time I went there the cashier was the young lady and she was nice. SELENA was extremely rude and she threw the divider on the conveyor belt in front of the costumers when she can just put it nicely without throwing it. There were also people behind me and when she asked me for the bag, she pretended she didn't hear me. I was speaking clearly and nicely. She repeated the question and stare at me meanly. Second time now I've been shopping at this location with ZERO registers open, only self checkout which is ok for a few items but when I'm shopping for my family of 5 and need staples, I truly don't want to play a game of Jenga on the tiny self checkout scale and then wait for the visibly annoyed employee to come help me with an issue. Have a cashier open during ALL business hours. When you ask about the lack of cashiers, they rudely tell you it's because they just opened or are closing soon, but I'm sorry, skimping on paying a cashier for an hour or two can't be worth the audible groans and annoyance every customer expresses when they realize they have no option except self checkout. I've shopped here literally 40 years of my life but will not anymore. It's too inconvenient and I would rather drive a mile further to a competitor that values customer experience by making an employee available to help you checkout. It's a great standard smart and final. The lot is a bit small but always manage to find parking. Helpful staff and usually very well stocked. Well kept interior, clean. I appreciate that they are always on top of their check out lines. Good place to stop for some snacks and frozen goods, party stuff, odds and ends. I stopped by this Smart & Finals today to get some soda. They had the best deal if you use a digital coupon out of all the other grocery stores. I never been to this location so it was a new experience. The parking lot is not as big but I came in the morning so there wasn't that many people. The store is clean and organized nicely, the aisle has labels so it will help you find things easier. My only suggestion would be adding a self checkout station so it could make the checkout process faster. I only got my soda and a bag of chips since they didn't have the burger gummies in stock here. read more

I shopped here for the first time last night because they were having a good sale on chicken thighs and the customer service at Ralphs has been pretty awful lately. Prices were decent and the produce was a step below Kroger but OK. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was a very loud employee tucking it up with other employees. I heard his voice during the entire visit. He seemed oblivious to the fact that people were shopping in the store. I was able to clear about half of my grocery list as the pricing or quality was subpar on many items. I still had quite a bit of food in my cart including 4 packs of chicken thighs at $.99 a pound or so I thought. There were of course no checkstands open, only self-checkout. where I saw the loud employee still speaking in his outside voice. I asked him if someone could check me out. He grabbed my cart and started scanning the items at self checkout. I thought, "OK I guess that will work." But he didn't bag anything. He just left a big pile of groceries for me to sort out. After bagging it all up, I looked at my receipt and had been charged full price for the chicken thighs. I inquired as to why this was and was told that the sale only applied to First Street brand. They didn't have any First Brand thighs. They asked if I would like drumsticks instead. At this point, I had enough. I will never shop at Smart & Final again. Ralphs is bad, but not to this degree. So far I haven't had any really bad experience but my only complaint is that they never had enough toilet paper ever since the lockdown. The place is organized and clean and they practice social distancing. They dont have the stationary wipe dispenser anymore but they have someone at the door that give you something to disinfect the cart. I wish they have a sanitizer at the register to sanitize hands after pushing those buttons. Parking is not too bad but always almost full every time I went. Shopped at the Devonshire location last week I shop at smart and final 6 days a week for my business, I'm a huge fan of the company in general, I went to this location because I was informed they probably would have better availability for meat on Monday early morning vs the encino location which they did, where I was disappointed in my experience was when it came to check out, no mind you this is a warehouse store so those of us shopping for our businesses tend to buy a good amount of products, I look for the checkout and the Only thing available was SELF checkout!!!! I'm my opinion this is unacceptable. I am not looking to be an employee of this company! Peak hour of the day and you have One line for all, but only 3 checkers. Line wraps around to the back of the store and no one is assisting with checking out. This store can use an alert manager to notice the obvious- get more checkers, get the ones working to actually stand by the registers and check out customers. Or better yet add self checkout machines. This store is definitely off my list for any type of shopping. I had one item but over 20 people in line and no one was being helped. By the time I would of requested a manager to add more checkers or stand in line, I could of done my weeks groceries. Find another store. read more

Since Covid, they have express 10item checkout. & it Goes quickly which was great Needless to say I started shopping there again But I've experienced two occasions today & couple wks ago, that leads me to believe they are hiring some rude people. I pulled the blanket I brought with me to cover her and that wasn't acceptable for some reason. So Nicole helped me at the register today... I'm not normally a 2 star reviewer though I believe is someone does amazing or horrible service it should be noted. The woman who works in the meat department but isn't on shift because she already clocked out was amazing. She even followed me to the meat department and helped get me the meat I needed. Someone thank this Blonde Haired Younger Looking woman. It started at the register though when I was purchasing almost $100 worth of groceries and the meat (about 30 lbs rang up more than the sale price). Nicole didn't assist in getting me the correct meat so I walked over to the meat department, picked up another three packs of meat and brought it over. When she rang me up, didn't say have a great day or thank you, or sorry for the inconvenience or add a closing greeting, she handed me my receipt, and looked upset. You'd think I'd be upset since there was a label there that was incorrect. How rude. I walk into the store do some shopping get to the line when a register is being opened up I walked up to the register and Jasmine the cashier states that she wants to take another customer because the other customer has 10 items or less. I had 10 items or less she just did not want to count my items. I then go on to tell her that that person was behind me in the previous line. She was very rude about it and continued to start ringing me up.She then continued to try and charge me $21 for a six pack of Fiji water which I later had to go in and talk to a manager about. She was in a horrible mood and did not do her job correctly on top of treating her customers in a disrespectful manner. I will no longer be going to the Smart in Final or shopping with this company.
