Hi everyone. I was at Smart and Final for a quick lunch idea and I stumbled upon an issue with the prepared lunch. I found that after paying a $5.00 deal price on a lunch item, that it came with a bad review. Normally a $10.00 to a $5.00 lunch is a really good deal in this economy but paying that $5.00 lunch, getting an item that turned off the "feeling full" reminder I had for the day, made me, let's be honest, off. I think that if the lunch is $5.00 to $10.00, I should feel like I had a good rice with teriyaki and a healthy protein to make me get to my job or school. It shouldn't make me feel tired or that I can't finish the lunch that I need to get to the next task. I think that the right ingredients and the mindset, that a good lunch can have good ingredients would streamline the lunch disappointments. Thanks. read more

there has been two occasions recently i've stopped by and could audibly hear the managers speaking horribly of either their coworkers or customers. It seems like this store is run by gross unprofessional people. These were quick occasions of stopping in I can't imagine how it goes day by day. Please retrain the staff on respect and professionalism, as it directly makes others feel unwelcome and uncomfortable even if you're not the employee they're belittling. read more

Smart & Final Mira Mesa -- Chaos in Bulk Form I came in for a quick grocery run. I left with existential dread, a dented can of beans, and a story I'm going to tell my therapist. The layout? A maze of sadness. The freezer section felt like the Arctic Tundra, while the dry goods aisle was a sauna. Temperature consistency? Nonexistent. I half expected to see penguins in aisle 6 and lizards in aisle 2. The staff? Let's talk about that. I asked someone where the rice vinegar was. They pointed vaguely toward the back and mumbled something that sounded like "maybe by the oils... or tortillas?" I found it next to the bleach. No sign. No logic. Just vibes. At checkout, the cashier was visibly annoyed that I had produce. She looked at my bok choy and went, "Ugh, people have been buying the weirdest stuff today." We're in Mira Mesa. I cook with garlic and onions, and imagine my surprise finding 2 5-packs of Garlic cloves for maybe $4.50. I was already checking to see if this place competes well with Vons discount Fridays. It does. LoL. Clean and plenty of friendly staff, quick and professional cashier, and the place was just what I needed for a low-key grocery store that actually understands the need to budget until next payday. Well in my case in between last paycheck from a previous job to and until my seemingly far in the future first paycheck with my new career. After enjoying a much needed unwind to rewind at Fish Taco Tuesday, I needed another 20 minutes to let my spirits level out before I drive carefully home. Busy but not crowded, welcoming but not demandingly expensive, and had everything I gravitate too when stocking the pantry and refrigerator for the next few days. Home cooked meals and healthy snacks will not be scarce in my household. Plus. That deal with garlic is what I thought it should be priced at.... Guess that's why this place is aptly named Smart and Final. Yooo... and their reusuable bags doesn't cost more than your half carton of eggs or a Gallon of milk and it's bigger and sturdy. Yo. One star is too generous. This feedback is based on the manager who was completely out of line and disrespectful to a senior/elderly customer which I witnessed first hand because I was in the line which was like watching a bad movie on display! The other employees seemed to be scared of this manager who was completely out of line. Smart and Final - what is the best email for you and name to file a complaint? Make sure you check the expiration date on your bread because if you try to return it, they'll tell you they don't sell it even if you have the receipt and then when they do return it and give you a new bread that bread is expired as well and then proceeded to act like you're wasting their time and get an attitude with you! This is quite a nice Smart & Final -- larger than most, wider aisles, and very clean. The staff has always been nice and helpful to us. It's conveniently located off Mira Mesa Blvd in the same shopping center with Home Depot. Parking is never a problem. As with any discount grocer, product selection is somewhat limited. read more

I just left a very nice review for this store this morning when I ordered items from this store for delivery. I only needed water and creamer and some fruits. I'm down with a flu so I was glad to see delivery was free. This is the first time I've gotten delivery from S&F. If I could, I would just walk in - I'm familiar with the layout, some of the cashiers are consistently nice, others may just be tired or at the end of their shift. I wish I knew the names of the friendly faces but I'll do better next time. I'm fighting a nasty virus, I somehow forgot that the delivery was fulfilled by Instacart and that I should have gone to them directly. I was answered by an associate who put me on hold but may have dropped my call. I called again and the same kid said he knows nothing about grocery delivery. And ok, so... can you please forward me to the right department? So someone picks up, said very confidently that the store DOESN'T offer grocery delivery. I was confused and said I thought I ordered on the S&F app this morning. The associate said "I don't know, let me get the manager" when Lisa came on, she seemed pleasant at introduction but as soon as I inquired about a delivery order, she very curtly dismissed the store having any involvement whatsoever with delivery. I should call Instacart. I asked for the number She said " I don't know.." she at least had someone Google it on the side for her and gave it to me. So I also asked since I was already on the phone if the items were in stock or if it was just an oversight. I got transferred to produce who told me I should call after 30 minutes because they have their delivery. I don't know why your store would be so disengaged with a product (delivery) you advertise on your app. You clearly want to market this, offering free delivery with minimum amount, why are your associates not trained that 1. You offer delivery 2. Just be a little gracious in passing the blame on a third party. I ordered on your app. I purchased groceries from you, why are you not involved? I wasn't upset when I called. Maybe that's why it was easy to be dismissive with me but I want to continue to like your store. I'm slowly transitioning from Vons. I can't remember the last time I shopped at a Smart & Final. And what does the Extra! at the end of the name mean now? I think this used to be an Albertsons. The location is big and they're close to Mimi's as well as Home Depot. There was plenty of parking today in the afternoon. I had some time so decided to stop by to check it out. It wasn't very busy and I didn't see many customers. Or staff. No biggie as that's more time and room for me to browse. I saw they had the Bragg's apple cider right at the entrance. Funny, as I've been wanting to try this brand and here it is, right in front of my face as I walked in. Not sure if it was a good price but seemed fair at $5.49. There's an ok selection of fruits and vegetables. I appreciated how they rubber banded the blueberry containers so that non accidentally busts open. Had to buy one just for that. Bakery and meat section was limited. They had a nice sale per lb for the whole chicken. Check out wasn't too bad. Wish they had self check out. The cashier was very friendly and nice. No need for a membership or rewards card to get savings. read more

Their new liquor is applauing. They force the cashier to LEAVE THE REGISTER to unlock the liquor cabinet when there may be 10 customers in that line. NO ONE ELSE will help you, all the other employee were rude when I asked for help and said "talk to the cashier" and would barely would look me in the face. This is the absolute DUMBEST rules for purchasing liquor. I understand the need to add extra security & to lock it up but make it convenient for the customer and have the staff be less of jerks about it. read more

Do a lot of shopping here and have kind of come to rely on the place. Not the widest variety of ingredients, but they seem to have what I'm looking for (maybe because I've subconsciously conditioned myself to only look for what I know they have). Additional random thought: the fresh orange juice bar they have in the store always smells awesome. Additional random thought 2: they have coffee beans and a grinder customers can use for those beans, but the "espresso" setting does not grind fine enough for us to make espresso on our machine at home. read more

This is one of the cleaner SAF's I've been to. Store is organized and actually seems like a larger SAF also. Comparing this to the other SAF in the South Bay, this one seemed like it had a bit more selection of stuff as well. Go figure but I've never figured they'd sell Jameson Whiskey here. This is the closest grocery to me and it's very convenient for me to shop here. However, if and when I have time I will go out of my way to take my business elsewhere. Unfortunately time is not something I have a lot of these days so I find myself shopping here. The service is often subpar and it's rare for me to get decent customer service. I'm not even sure why some people work here when they seem like they're not interested in assisting customers. There is one particular male I see often who doesn't greet anyone and seems upset when he's at the register. The lines are always long because only two lanes are open and he always has to be told to open up so when he does he takes it out on the customers. Bad service, long lines, not so great products, are enough for this store to meet the fate of its predecessors and I would welcome that. read more

Rule #1 of Smart & Final is that eating yesterday's food today is the job of all those who can't afford a Costco membership. Rule #2 of Smart & Final is they do not believe in self checkout. No matter how long the line gets or how few items one person might have. Rule #3 of Smart & Final is they buy food that didn't sell from regular grocery stores and sell it to you. But if they can't sell it, they send it to their stores in Mexico. (I'm not joking either.) Look... sometimes I need 10,000 paper plates. And sometimes I need an item other stores won't have... because they have actual customers. Sometimes I just wanna shop in a warehouse that doesn't require a membership. They took over the old Albertsons and thank goodness the prices are better. I don't come here often it's not my go to grocery store. But when I am purchasing in bulk or don't feel like driving to Vons I come here. You can a family pack of Hawaiian sweet rolls for $5! Eggs and the large coffee creamers are also cheaper here. Also when I am picking up breakfast for the team, they have $5 packages of croissants and strudels. They have bagels and donuts in the bakery as well. Not a huge produce section, and the quality of the produce is not good here. Bulk candies and chips are worth it. Overall bulk items are the better deal here. Skip the produce section and baked goods are worth it. read more

They don't communicate with you when they're low on the items you ordered, leaving me with less than 50% of what I ordered and to top it off when they adjusted their receipt to match what I received, they still charged me for one extra item I did not receive!! Went shopping there today with my spouse, very disappointed there was no apparent shopping cart cleaning process as I see in other food markets. Date of visit: April 5, 2017 Taking over the space from the vacated Albertson's and Haggen, Smart & Final used the area upgrade to make it a Smart & Final Extra! - meaning it doesn't just carry bulk goods, it also serves as a bit of a supermarket that has a surprisingly nice selection of fresh produce, as well as decent deli and bakery sections. The price I paid for the groceries I got was comparable to what I would pay for at the grocery stores closer to my place; although it's a bit more out of the way now, I could see myself making the drive out for bulk goods - especially when our church is holding its annual fiestas and gatherings. Plus, currently Smart & Final Extra! has a coupon in their deli section for 50% off any sushi order... and seeing how it actually looks pretty good in the case, I may have to check it out! read more
