I'll start this review by saying Alex and Alexis are the only reasons why we will be moving into the apartment of our dreams next month. That is ALL that you really need to know from this entire review. They are beyond helpful, communicative, knowledgeable, and well-connected in the LA area. Look no further- you have found your dream realtor. Backstory: My boyfriend and I searched for places for months online prior to flying out to LA and toured apartments for hours in-person while there, but kept hitting a wall. Nothing we found lived up to the images or descriptions online, and not to mention, we dealt with some of the worst property managers/leasing agents in the process. I think we can all agree here when I say moving is a pretty stressful time, so striking out repeatedly during our apartment search left us feeling pretty defeated. Then by the grace of god himself, we were introduced to Alex/Alexis. Keep in mind (for you skeptics out there), this was a last ditch effort on our part because soliciting the help of a realtor seemed unnatural to us given we have always managed to find apartments/homes on our own. The Most Bizarre Waste of Time Still trying to wrap my head around the experience I had with "Smart" Realty. My bf and I went to view an apartment in DTLA with the agent, Angela. First red flag: We scheduled our appt for 8AM but received a confirmation text from her that asked if we were still coming to our 10AM appt. So we had to REconfirm...but you know mix ups happen so we weren't too concerned. Second red flag: When we arrived we were shown two apartments, neither for the actual listing price + photos we saw on the listing. Not a huge jump, but enough to where we gave them the side eye. We ended up loving one of the units and decided to proceed despite the prior inconsistencies. After applying to what we thought was the unit we not only saw but verbally expressed our interest in, it got weirder. She text the both of us saying we were approved for a unit that was about $550 more. When we asked how the price was so different she apologized and said she sent us the wrong application. Again, we asked... HOW?! Her response was that she can't remember the order in which she shows the units and to give her a brief description. CHILE... Turns out the other unit was rented days before, supposedly the tenant submitted a full application moments after she sent us our application... that. wasn't.even. for. the. right. unit. LOL!!!! At that point I felt like we were being punkd. She sent us the refunds for our application fee (which I also thought was crazy, but I've become immune to outlandish charges in this city) but the damage has been done. What a way to treat a potential tenant/client? She basically told us in so many words that we weren't important enough to be remembered in her rolodex of other people she only views as dollar signs and bodies to fill spaces. I mean, I get this is a business, but to be treated like we were insignificant was a complete mind 4 letter word. There were a couple red flags to begin with so I wasn't too surprised when things turned out the way they did. But I see some great reviews on their pages so it's obvious they can treat some people with decency... but that was FAR from our experience. I really hope no one else ever has to feel that way. read more

Found Arnel Sanchez through one of my building searches downtown. I had been looking around at the downtown area and had had no luck finding what I was looking for. Arnel initially showed me a couple of apartments that were great but a little outside of my budget. I let him know what i was looking for and he lined up a whole slew of apartments to look at. We met up Saturday and he took me around downtown and patiently explained the pros and cons of each building and answered any questions I had. At the end of the afternoon, I still had not found exactly what I was looking for but there was one building left - but it was in the Arts district and not downtown. Sure enough, that building was exactly what I was looking for! I would never have found it without Arnel. As if that wasn't enough, I initially had trouble with some maintenance issues after moving in and Arnel advocated for my interests and informed me of possible courses of action. At that point, he really was under no obligation to keep helping me but did so anyway. I highly recommend you give Arnel a call if you're looking for an apartment. The first time Tiffany and Alexis listed our unit for rent we had a great experience with them since Alexis happens to be a professional and very meticulous in dealing with details, and I gave them five star for their service. In November of 2020 we listed our unit with them again, but this time there was no Alexis and Tiffany seems to be running the office with a few temporary staff since most of the people she has listed on her website as her agents have left. Tiffany is very sloppy in filling out Lease Contracts. I recently stumbled across Smart LA Realty while walking down the street in Downtown Los Angeles. I saw a building that I was interested in possibly renting a unit from (Jewelry Trades) and I called the number. I called a few times and finally received a call from Alex, a leasing associate, and I came by to see an available unit. It was in a different building (Spring Arcade) but I actually liked that spot even better. The unit was beautiful! Large windows and a big space, especially for a studio. The building is very well maintained. The halls are clean. You don't smell urine or trash like you do in most buildings downtown and everyone is extremely nice, from maintenance to security to the people who work in the office. I am putting effort in this review because I've dreamed of moving downtown for years and this experience sealed my decision to just go for it. Alex is very knowledgeable and patient. I had a lot of questions and he answered all of them honestly. He also followed up very quickly after my visit. The whole experience was very chill and no pressure. I never felt pressured to put a deposit on the unit or make a snap decision. I'm happy to say that today I did bring in my deposit for the apartment and I will write a follow up review down the line once I'm settled in and have been in the building for some time. I have high hopes because the incredible first impression set the precedent. Bottom line: there are a lot of crappy, shady, dirty places in downtown LA and even worse management companies, but Smart Realty LA is NOT one of them. Alexis was great until she wasn't. I was with her for about a year and she was helping me rent out my loft in DTLA, and things were fine. Then suddenly she started pressuring me to sell the unit, saying things had changed and now there was no interest in it. Obviously they make a lot more money if I sell, so renting isn't a priority of theirs, which I understand. Then a prospective tenant shows up interested in renting my place saying he is renting until he finds a place to buy, and then her loyalties switched completely. All of a sudden I find myself negotiating with HER - my own realtor who is supposed to be on my side - and trying to explain myself at every juncture as to why I need to stick to the basic things we had agreed on and had been implementing with multiple tenants for the past year. But she was trying to get this guy the best deal she could in order to prove herself to him, presumably so that he would buy with her in the future. She even went behind my back and changed the deposit amount on me, thinking I wouldn't notice, and when I called her out on it she insulted me and implied that I was too stupid to understand the terms. I'm an attorney, so I have no problem understanding terms. When I wouldn't take down my rent by $500 AND cut the deposit in half for this guy, she abruptly cancelled our listing agreement with no notice and left me high and dry with my place sitting empty and nobody working on renting it. I had to start over with new realtors, and the time it sat empty that I had to find someone new and start all over was time that I lost money. The irony is that I come from a family of real estate investors, and that literally the night before this whole drama started my dad was asking me about an LA realtor because he was looking to buy a place out here. And my sister is just starting to look for a place to buy in downtown as well. Thank God we didn't get the chance to start with these people. It was almost like divine intervention. They are disrespectful, unreliable and have no loyalties to their clients, and they will turn on you and screw you at the drop of a dime if they think they can get someone more lucrative. There are too many realtors in LA to waste your time with these people and end up in the situation I ended up in. read more

Living in DTLA to some people might seem like a horrible idea BUT for my fiancé and I it's always been a dream. A dream that to achieve comes with some obstacles, the location , the transportation , the parking etc. After few weeks of being out in the hunt we found the Spring Arcade Building.
