We needed a moving company to move everything from our residence in Union City, Ca to a public storage in Oakley, Ca. This company amazed me in getting this move done! I hired 3 men and a 26 ft truck per the owner's recommendation for a single story 3 bedroom home. The movers came at 9 am and didn't waste anytime. They got the truck filled in about 4 hours. I was nervous that the truck was small for all our stuff but thanks to Dimitri, Eugene and Nick they made it happen! If you need a moving company, I recommend this company. Extremely slow. A little unprofessional. Ended up scratching my floor because they dragged furniture. I hired 4 movers expecting them to pipeline well. They're not experienced. Each guy would pack one thing and then take all the way to the truck. One guy would just chill and take light items one by one all and take his phone calls in the middle. Every two three trips, they would just vanish, apparently taking a breather. They also sent an unmarked truck. Very unprofessional. Very low value for money. read more

They offer credit card options which I needed for receipts/reimbursement and had very reasonable/competitive fees. The phone/initial call could have been more streamline but the actual day-of service was superb. When it comes to moving, I really only care about two things: 1. Is my stuff safe? 2. Is this worth the price? I'd give Smart People Moving 5 stars on both accounts. They wrapped all my fragile stuff incredibly well, often taking better care of things than I would have probably done on my own. They were cautious moving things around corners, being careful not to damage any walls or any of my items. It was great to see how much care they took with my stuff. I had gotten probably 5 or 6 quotes and SPM came out as the cheapest. I can be skeptical on using the cheapest option (am I going to compromise on quality?) but the other reviews made me feel more confident picking this company. I can say that they worked efficiently, despite being paid per hour, and I felt like the money I spent was well worth it. For reference, they helped me move a 2 bedroom home + yard furniture. We filled the 20ft truck and it took them a little less than 4 hours from start to finish. Would definitely recommend them if you're looking for quality movers! read more

Terrible experience and would not use them again! My son decided to employ them even though they had a 3 hour minimum because they seemed affordable compared to other companies. First the positive, they did a good job wrapping and protecting the furniture. It was down hill from there. Early on, I realized that there was no incentive for them to work fast since they charged by the hour and they took their time prepping and loading the truck EVEN though we had moved half of the boxes to the ground level ourselves. The two guys struggled to get the sofa down the staircase and they actually broke a piece of our concrete entry stairs. Given how long it took to load the truck, during the unloading portion, I requested that they move the boxes to the edge of the truck bed so I could move the boxes into storage after they unloaded the furniture portion. I found it comical that I (a senior woman) was able to keep pace with the two guys as they moved the boxes with two hand trucks as I loaded the boxes onto a moving dolly. Be "smart" , don't be taken in by the pricing! read more

UPDATE: A box of very expensive items has disappeared and I'm not getting any help from the company. Calls are not being returned and I am quite frustrated. The movers sat in my living room and had me leave them two 5 star reviews before leaving, which happened before I was done with their services. I still recommend movers because that made my move seamless, but next time I'll pay more attention to my things. I have never used a moving service before and was nervous about not having things packed before they arrived, but they were so quick, strong, and communicative. Day of, the movers were prompt and highly professional. They put all of my valuables in tape to protect from scratches. They also let me use wardrobe boxes as well as other boxes. This move was complicated because it involved a first stop at my new place of residence and a second or last stop at a storage unit. We had Eugene's crew and they were amazing! We are military and usually the military moves us. We have moved over 6 times so we aren't newbies. We needed to hire our own movers this time though. We were so impressed. We thought they were going to just put our stuff in the truck as we weren't moving that far. They carefully wrapped all our furniture.
