Holy Crap...these guys frickin' RULE!…read more We just bought a HUGE 100+ year old Victorian house. It was being sold as-is and, as such, had no property disclosures so we decided to conduct a property inspection BEFORE making an offer. Because no one has lived in it for years there were also no recent energy cost records to be had. Despite having been recently "rehabbed" (emphasis on the quotations), considering the enormous size of the place and the fact that it has 2 furnaces, we were deeply concerned about what it would take to heat and cool it. In waltz Corbett Lunsford and his incredibly professional (not to mention smartly-dressed, in their logo shirts, name badges and caps) team straight out of their iGo car (emblazoned with a removable magnetic company sign - how GREEN is THAT???), hauling all their impressive high-tech gear to save the day. Corbett (nice as pie and professional as the day is long) introduces himself (though I'd already met him a couple times at USGBC meetings and seminars at CCGT) and his team, explains their procedures, explains what they will be doing when, how long it will take, warmly welcomes the fact that my trusted property inspector is already there on the job and introduces himself to him (I was a little worried they might be put-off by the doubling-up...silly me). I shadowed Corbett and some of the team-members from time-to-time, just to see what they were doing, but ended up spending most of my time there with our contractor walking him through the place to get some estimates. The Green Dream team finished-up in about 3 hours and promised a full report by the end of the week. Flash-forward to today when I receive it by email. I settle-in to take-in the 19 page report. UNBELIEVABLY IMPRESSIVE. The report and suggestions are easy to read and understand, come with TONS of identifying pictures of referenced areas of inefficiency and infared pics of heat-loss areas. The suggested efficiency upgrades are clearly listed and even identify which would be eligible for tax benefits. The kicker? The report told us what our energy bills would be if we left the house as-is vs. what they would be if we did the suggested (and price-estimated) work. It even included graphs for the payoff-period for the work (in this house, practically no time at all). If we do this nominally-priced work, this 5700SF will cost LESS to heat and cool than our old, drafty 2100SF house in Chicago (I'm totally calling the buyer of our house and recommending these guys)! I did not request a HERS rating (this would have been an additional cost) because we don't need it for the purposes of marketing the house (because we plan to live there), but I will definitely hire Green Dream to provide one when the time comes (you know...in, like, 20 years). Important to note: THEY don't offer services for the suggested work, but provide a list of affiliates who can (at a discounted rate by virtue of being referred by them). Happily, my contractor is already a green-certified builder so I'm all good, but I thought this was key to establishing trustworthiness of the service provided. This inspection WAS pricey (about $750), but I think that was mainly because of the size of the house and, IMO, WORTH EVERY PENNY! This company makes it SO easy to "go green". What are you waiting for???
