Such a disappointing experience we had with Smart wave. What started out with a free steak dinner quickly devolved into one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a company. I am unable to write my full review due to character limit, but in short: Their solar install team caused a roof leak and the process of getting it repaired lasted what felt like months and was nothing but a massive headache (and there is still unresolved damage to the interior of my home caused by the leaks). The only reason I give them 2 stars instead of negative 9000 was that their price was unbeatable (though it clearly came at a price, pun intended) Ultimately, I do not believe that smart wave is a scam or that their team was "out to get us". I think had the initial install gone without a roof leak, everything would have gone fine and this would be a 5 star review. . However, their systems and processes for handling things when they go poorly are very clearly lacking, and their team is either poorly trained, incompetent, not provided the right tools to succeed, or a mixture of all of the above. If I could do it all over again, I would not work with Smart Wave, though their price was so cheap that despite this gigantic headache, my opinion of whether I'd go through it all over again may change as the years go by. I just hope that I never had to interact with their company again. read more

Very good experience with both the Salesman and the two installation crews! The salesman explained things nicely, like why I needed a "Critter Guard" (made sense after he explained it, and a neighbor said he wished his solar company had advised him before he got birds nesting in his panels!). I had two different install crews (large install), the first was led by Justin Dunn, and the second consisted of Zach and Barret, both were excellent. They even caught undersized wiring being used in my existing box, and fixed that for me with no extra charge! They walked me thru what they planned on doing, and then showed me afterwards, explaining what each component did. I am a retired Technical Consultant, and kind of knew anyway, but must say, very nicely done! They knew their stuff! If all their people are as excellent as the ones that did my installation, without a doubt, use them. My Salesman, Randy Hansen even still answers questions for me to this day, and follows up long after we paid for the install! That is a real nice touch! I have worked with a lot of Tech companies in my career, most good, a few bad, very few very good ones. A lot of the employees of these companies were still "learning the trade". SMART WAVE SOLAR was a very good experience for me and the people I dealt with really knew their stuff! My 32 Panels and dual Tesla Power Wall 3 units are working well as I post this! read more

My initial choice for solar was Blue Raven, in preference to Smart Wave. That deal stumbled due to their opinion that my home needed a new main electrical panel, which bumped their original price considerably. I reverted to query Smart Wave, and their salesperson short circuited my price negotiations with Blue Raven by quoting me a persuasively appealing price, including a panel upgrade (I've included a copy of my hand written price notes made during the call). He failed to specify that in the contract, and when the city approved the existing arrangement, they refused to honor the salesperson's commitment, although a Smart Wave exec told me that they did let the salesperson go over the matter. A short time after installation my panel blew, pretty much validating Blue Raven's opinion. I engaged in extensive, month's long correspondence with Smart Wave pressing the issue, to no avail. I involved the Division of Consumer Protection, whose representative, having read the mountain of correspondence I'd produced, told me he 100% believed me, but in terms of actionability, the contract didn't give them the ammunition they would need to intervene. In other words, if Smart Wave refused to do the ethical thing, which would be to honor their salesperson's commitment, the agency was powerless to act. I would rate Installation quality 3 stars because, in fairness, what work they did was technically fine, it just lacked a crucial component their salesperson committed. I have held the position "Director of Sales and Marketing" before. In one my Smart Wave conversations I told them that, in their position, I would honor the commitment and let the salesperson go. It seems they found it necessary to do only half of that. In case any of Smart Wave's competitors become aware of this post and would like copies of my extensive pleadings to Smart Wave, I would be pleased to oblige. read more

Despite what they say they are a solar broker. They're basically a sales entity who brokers out all their work.

I have never left a review but I have struck out with every other approach with Smart Wave and Lion Energy. We had a system installed by Smart wave about 1.5 years ago. The system went down June 16th and has been down for over 2 months. I sent them an email on June 16th and have been getting the runaround every since. ("Waiting on management") They came and replaced the bad one and never got the new one working. (Very bad experience) The also left me with both inverters. Should charge them $100/month for storage that I don't have room for. I have tried to go through (Steve) the sales man, and customer service (Alaiza) numerous times with no resolution. I have been asked how I liked my solar panels and replied with, Smart Wave has been a very frustrating experience. We feel that we have been scammed with a 40,000 "Thank You Very Much" cold shoulder. I wish there would have been a monthly payment option financed by Smart wave. We have gone through the summer sucking off the grid when we really had high hopes for a warranty backed system we paid in full for. One of Smart Wave's crew members fell through our ceiling three days ago, damaging property below that point in the ceiling. While I'm not inclined to lay it all out here, let's just say that since then, the response from SW has not been what we would expect. The crew was on site for about six hours following the incident, and aside from immediately removing the large sections of drywall that fell (which amounts to tampering with evidence in my book), they made no attempt to clean up the debris that fell on my Harley, a golf cart, exercise equipment, and other items. They also left trash all over our yard and in our gutters. We told them that crew was not allowed to come back and since then, I would agree with someone else's remark: "Lip service and excuses." They were sure pushing us to let them keep working so they could make use of the large lift they had to rent to access our roof, though. read more

Before you read my review I advise you to read the other negative reviews. You will see that what I am saying is a chronic issue. They are the least professional company I have ever worked with. Update 11/21/2024 After speaking to Smart Wave and paying them to come and fix the inverter their technician caused to stop working completely I received an email today saying that they would just not be doing anything. This is one of the most unprofessional acts I f a company I have ever had the displeasure of working with. I am adding photos of my inverters production. The tech that Smart Wave sent who instead of ringing our doorbell knocked lightly on our screen door and then waiting old nay about a minute with no attempt to knock on our actual door, or ring the doorbell like a professional would broke our inverter completely taking it from having intermittent problems to not working at all. The tech came and n 10/31/2024 as you can see from the photos included below the inverter was working. The next two photos show that the inverter hasn't worked since that day. I have asked smart wave to honor their agreement, but should they decide not to I will be seeking a legal remedy for the cost of the inverter, the cost of installation, and the average daily cost of electricity my system should produce. I can honestly say I have never worked with a less professional company. If you are considering solar power go with anyone else. You will be much better off. Update 11/11/2024 Smart wave did send a technician. The tech failed to identify the problem, and whatever the tech did changed this from an intermittent issue to a completely broken system. Ive reported this to solar wave, and asked that they diagnose what the problem is so that I can hire them to fix it. Im very frustrated that smart wave has insisted the issue is with the wifi. In order to eliminate that from the list of what could be wrong i have a cat5 cable running from my inverter straight to my router. Ive also accessed the UI for the inverter and it shows a strong connection. I don't mind paying for the repair and have asked that smart wave figure out why the system was having issues, and why it stopped working all together after their tech looked at it. I hate to leave this review. This is the second time I've had to leave a negative review for smart wave. We bought solar panels from a company that sadly is no longer in business called gosolar. The SMA sunnyboy inverter they installed just randomly doesn't work. I contacted SMA who gave me the run around, but eventually referred me to smart wave as their local partner to help with warranty issues. The first time I contacted smart wave they also gave me the run around and after weeks of trying to get the system fixed they sent an email wanting to charge nearly $1,000 just to look at the inverter. They also wanted me to pay a few hundred dollars starting the moment their techs left and the entire time they were traveling. I left a review about all of this and a vice president came over to my house with all sorts of promises, and wouldn't leave until I had changed my review. When he did leave the customer service manager Emma went right back to giving me the run around. I worked with SMA to give smart wave complete access to my solar panels. Once every other week I email Emma to see what is going on. Every week I get the same response. That she is looking into it, and should have a solution shortly. That solution never comes. SMA is the big bad of the situation, but smart wave isn't much better. It has been a nightmare just to get them to come look at our inverter. I am sorry to say that if your looking for a solar power provider look somewhere that doesn't use sma, and isn't smart wave solar. Of the execs read this, and would like me to provide a better review do what you should have 5 months ago and send someone out to trouble shoot the system so it can be replaced if needs be. read more

Although our initial experience years ago was positive, our most recent experience has been miserable. We were quoted $3,510 to take off certain panels and put them back on after a remodel. However, the panels were not working after being replaced and it's been months of emails, pleading and threatening, visiting their office, etc. Finally, I was told that I had to pay the $3,510 BEFORE they'd come out to see why they weren't working. I dug in my heals for a couple more months but finally, in April, silly me, I gave in and payed them. So I'm out the money AND I'm paying $100-$200 more in power costs. Next step-small claims court. We adamantly would NOT recommend Smart Wave Solar. We signed a contract with them in June of 2022 and still do not have solar working at our home. We are now paying for solar, and we are not able to use our solar panels. The company will respond quickly and come out, but they just don't seem to get things working. The first delay was because they could not get the panel's they sold us, so they had to order different ones. They were installed in October. There were some delays with the city saying things were not right. You could blame the city, but Smart Wave solar electricians had to come out 4 times before they got it right. Finally, in February they got everything hooked up. They system would not come on because there was an error message and they have not been out to fix it. We have even talked to the owner in Denver and his response was something like "we install fire alarms?" Not helpful at all. This has been an expensive mistake and we regret going with Smart Wave Solar. read more

Contracting with this company to install solar panels and batteries has been our worst nightmare. They are unorganized, don't know how to communicate, and are understaffed. They told us they had both permits on 7/28/22 and were ready to start the installation, and sent us an invoice, which we paid. They didn't have the permits until 8/22/22. Their crew installed the solar panels on 9/1/22 and we waited until 10/12/22 for the electricians to be scheduled. They were here 6 hours and left early to go get parts. They came back on 10/13/22 and encountered problems with the battery. They sent techs from the battery manufacturer and they discovered two missing parts, one of which had been bypassed in the battery cabinet. They left one part that needs to be installed by the electricians in the main circuit breaker cabinet. It's been two weeks since the electricians were here, and now, they're full of excuses for not coming back to finish our project. read more
