We started our adventure a few months back for an 10x8 unit for roughly $100 total a month. After a couple of months, they raised our rent for the same unit to $200, the reason given in the email notification was the first few months were priced as an introductory offering. When we singed up, nothing in the process neither in writing nor verbally was communicated with us about an "introductory offer." I called and asked to speak to a manager about this bait and switch. The agent on site said he may call me back tomorrow. After 3 days, still no call. I called back, a different agent on site said oh yeah, we are reducing your rate to $143 a month. I'm almost certain had I not called back, nothing would've changed. Buyer be ware. read more

No cameras or lights. They have been out for over a week and cannot access space safely. Never get an answer of when will be fixed and no notifications of the issue. Do not recommend. read more

The staff has told us several times recently that the management has asked for reviews. Had they not asked I likely would not be writing this, but management wants them, so here goes. The front office staff that we have worked with is friendly. The premises are usually clean. The store facility has a very long and detailed contract and they use it to protect themselves against any of the complaints listed here. When you go in to rent the unit, the staff flies through it and if you want to spend an hour reading the legalese, I am sure they would let you. But since they have never seen more than one employee working in all of our visits and there are often two or more customers in the lobby, as a customer you find yourself just letting them speed you through signatures. Then suddenly you find yourself subject to random increases in rates, units that are not the size advertised, and random acts of "nickel and diming". (I.e if you rent on the 1st and move out on the 10th, they keep the full month rent). The staff will gladly take your questions and the management will quickly tell them what section of your rental agreement defends their actions. Oh and one of the bathrooms has seemed to be unusable for over a month. ‍ read more

Horrible!! Our rates were raised at least 5x maybe more in the course of 1 1/2 yr. They have you...because they know the expense involved for you to come and move your stuff out. But, we finally had enough of this price gouging from them. We met the movers there this am and got FREE from this price gouging, horrible business practice company. Do NOT commit to this place you will be sorry. Read other reviews. Same complaints. Constant price raising and you have NO recourse. read more

After renting one of their storage units for several months I cancelled my contract in September as the unit was no longer needed. Since I had paid ahead, I was told that I would receive a refund. It's now two months later and I'm still waiting on the refund check. It's laughable that a company who is so diligent with collecting their fees isn't capable of issuing money owed to their customers. Avoid SmartStop Storage. There are plenty of other brands in the north valley to choose from who will conduct business in an ethical and efficient manner. read more

I have been renting a unit here literally since the location opened under the original owner/management. It has since changed owners once or twice. During the past two years, the keypads to the building rarely work, making it difficult to enter the building outside of staffed hours. I've had my rates raised numerous times, usually about every six months. Yet, despite rates increasing 50%, ownership refuses to pay any money to maintain the facility and repair the keypads. Needless to say, my former storage unit is now available. read more
