First day at Puppy Day Camp 12/24
    Linda M.

SmartyPup! Is amazing!!! Two of my dogs attended classes, and my youngest puppy, Skye, attended their Day Camp (I call it pre-school); this was the best decision I made for my ten-week-old puppy! Skye was my second puppy, and I KNEW I needed her in their day camp for all the early development training I could never give her. My first pup, Luna, was too old for day camp, so if you have a young puppy under 13 weeks old, I highly recommend enrolling your puppy in their Puppy Day Camp! They make camp fun while keeping them safe, helping them learn how to play with other pups, and much more! Social skills, obedience, and problem-solving exercises help to make your pup the best he can be. When she left day camp, I enrolled her in Puppy 1, 2, and 3 classes because the consistency of what she learned in day camp was essential to her continued growth (and mine!). Skye also attended a lot of the socials, both puppy and small fog socials. I have the highest regards and accolades for the staff: day camp and all trainers are amazing! Skye just graduated from Puppy 3, and I'm so proud of her! I want more puppies to experience a little piece of heaven on earth at SmartyPup. I am a true believer in all they do: safety, positive reinforcement, problem-solving, exposure to everyday distractions, and so much more to help them and you in their journey of development. What I love about SmartyPup! is that they teach positive reinforcement, consistency in training and everyone is knowledgable, and everyone has such a positive outlook. They have fun in all they do. Everyone always takes the time to answer questions and go over things we can do at gim. I highly recommend SmartyPup!

We adopted an 8 week old puppy, and I had forgotten just how much work puppies are with chewing, toilet training, and getting into trouble if not exercised and properly supervised. I quickly realized that we were in over our heads and needed a lot of help. I asked several dog trainers I know in SF and they all said to call SmartyPup SF. The school uses only positive reinforcement training and specializes in puppy socialization. It's a combination of Day care and Day Training. The trainers were brilliant. We could see the difference in her confidence right away. She began giving auto sits, going to her mat, and seemed more relaxed. Her play skills developed quickly. She graduated a couple of weeks ago now she's in adult daycare with a wide variety of adult dogs. That daycare tells me that they can see how well developed her play style and confidence is for a dog her age. She was exposed to many different people, objects, sounds, situations and now has the curiosity to explore and try new things, without being held back by fear. She even had the courage to ride a skateboard ! What a transformation. SmartyPup gave her a head start in life that she wouldn't otherwise have. I'm grateful that we found them. The owner, Fawn, was also very helpful with food and treat advice. If you're looking to give your puppy the best foundation possible to work from, this is the place. Definitely paws up and 5 stars !

We started our dog Nalee as a wee pup at the evening puppy socials as new "pup parents". They were informative and assuring, as it is at first scary to watch these little ones being aggressive with each other at play. However under the direction of Fawn and the other leaders they timed out short play times and directed the running around with talk to parents about what was occurring between individual pups. Watching was fascinating and hilarious at times. We came away understanding and much more confident of our pups ability to interact with other pups. After those socials we took the training classes as a family and we all graduated with flying colors. So worth the effort and investment in the way Nalee behaved over her entire 15 years and it's a direct result of the skills she and we as a family learned through SmartyPup. Thanks to all at SmartyPup. We miss Nalee and we will never forget the value of our time spent with our good girl.

If you want a well-behaved, well-socialized pup AND have time to focus on work, look no further than SmartyPup's day school. Our mini Australian Shepherd pup, Cedar, was 2.5 months old when we enrolled him in day school and Fawn + team were instrumental in teaching him (and us) foundational obedience (everything from 'sit' to loving his crate and being comfortable with alone time). He also came home blissed out and exhausted every day he went, which meant we had an easygoing, well-behaved pup on our hands more evenings than not. Bonuses: - You get an incredible list of vetted pup services in the Bay Area (everything from grooming to pack walks) - You'll connect with other pup parents, so you have an opportunity to get your puppy together with other puppies you know s/he gets along with (such a blessing pre-vaccines) - You'll get access to the world's cutest (and most distracting) live cam of your pup playing all day at school

My puppy is so well socialized after her time at Smarty Pup. She is a joy to have around.

    Sadie the Pupdog1 graduate!

Tyler's pupdog1 class was and very informative. We got Sadie as a rescue with little to no training and a rough estimate to her age - so we settled on pupdog1 (after 4 Mos) We learned how to sit-stay, recall, and desensitization (these were the most helpful of the trainings for me). Sadie and I enjoyed the catch training best and now she's a pro. Still a lot more reinforcement to go but SmartyPup and Tyler set us on the right track! Thanks again!

We took the 5-week puppy series class. 5 stars for Kelly! She was very positive and helpful to myself, my son and our puppy throughout the class. 5 stars for the content. We covered a lot and learned a lot, in general. Some of the way the content was taught was clunky and challenging (for me) to follow, but it is a distracted environment and I think Tyler did a decent job, overall. These type of classes are general and since each pup is so different (with their own strengths and challenges areas), I understand it's difficult to have a one-size-fits-all kind of class. The Q&A was particularly helpful for us. We enjoyed the socialization aspect and meeting the other puppies. Thanks!

Being able to watch your pup through the cameras was the cherry on top!

Review for Adam at Bark Busters San Francisco…read more We had an incredible experience working with Adam from Bark Busters in San Francisco. From the very first session, it was clear he has a deep understanding of dog behavior and a calm, confident approach to training. Adam helped us work through some long-standing challenges with our dog, Zoe, and the progress we've seen has been genuinely life-changing. Adam didn't just focus on Zoe -- he focused on us as owners, teaching us how to communicate clearly and consistently in a way Zoe could actually understand. His explanations were practical, easy to apply, and rooted in real behavioral insight rather than gimmicks. Even after the first session, we noticed Zoe was calmer, more responsive, and more confident. What really sets Adam apart is how supportive and thorough he is. He walked us through each technique step by step, answered every question thoughtfully, and made sure we felt confident continuing the training on our own. We never felt rushed or overwhelmed -- just empowered. Zoe is now noticeably better behaved, less reactive, and overall happier -- and we credit Adam entirely for that transformation. If you're in the Bay Area and looking for a trainer who truly understands both dogs and humans, we can't recommend Adam highly enough.

When we started, Spoon could be unpredictable and we weren't always sure how to help him succeed. Through her guidance, patience, and consistency, he's become a much more confident and well-behaved dog. She has a natural ability to understand what they need while also teaching owners how to communicate with them effectively. As first-time dog owners, that support was invaluable. We're so grateful for everything she's done for Spoon and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and caring trainer.

This is a long review because…read morelike other folks reading this review, when I was about to bring my puppy home, I was debating between SF Puppy Prep and similar places in SF. Choose SF Puppy Prep! DAY SCHOOL: I sent Goji, 10 week puppy to prep school as soon as I was able to. The confidence and manners he developed over 4 weeks was invaluable. When I dropped him off for school his 1st day, he was trembling with fear when I left; by the 2nd day he was leaping out of my arms at drop off bc he was so excited to be at school. I'm positive that it is because of SF Puppy Prep that I get compliments EVERY time we are in public on how well behaved he is because he is so calm. He approaches larger dogs with curiosity and confidence; when other dogs bark at him, he remains quiet and checks in with me; he is rarely afraid of new sounds and environments. He also has shown a ton of improvement with obedience /commands and crate training at home that I was struggling to train myself. I see small things come out at home that I can only assume puppy school taught him (bc I sure didn't!) that make a huge difference. For example, when I put his food down in front of him, he will sit automatically and wait until I release him to eat. He also runs into his crate and puts himself to sleep at night when he's tired. Big shoutout to Tiro, Isaiah, Lindsay (sp?), Adrian (sp?) and all the other wonderful counselors that made my puppy's days so happy! PUPPY SOCIALS: Best in the city - I've attended a LOT of them and the reason these folks are better than any other is because they explain beforehand what good puppy play looks like, they narrate what's going on while the puppies are playing, and gently include owners in intervening or helping take breaks as needed. Because of this, as the owner, I am also more educated on how my puppy should play with others when he meets them in less structured environments. WORKSHOPS: I love the specialty workshops that are offered! I took my puppy to a recall workshop as it's very important to me he functions well off leash. He was a little young for the workshop but Amrit, the teacher, was so accommodating, and what we learned has been so helpful for me to continue training my puppy as he gets older. I typed this all on my phone and my thumbs are SORE now but in conclusion, if you're a new puppy parent debating sending your dog here, DO IT!

Resource guarding his food bowl, bad at walking, random growling at us, overstimulated by balls/dogs, and generally uncontrollable in any situation. We inquired with a bunch of different dog trainers and decided to go with Refined K9 given their holistic approach. Before Refinedk9, I had tried "positive only" trainers that evaluated Buddha for his food aggression, but they were totally ineffective and, in fact, made his reactivity towards food worse. We were also way over-feeding him and numbing him to treats. Other unqualified trainers were also unable to explain how they would properly introduce an e-collar and why e-collars are used. We were extremely anxious about having Buddha do the 4-week board and train to "reset", but we felt okay after learning Jose has many French bulldogs himself. Even though we didn't get super frequent updates, it was clear every week that Buddha was very well taken care of. Jose took the first week to evaluate our dog, his behavior, and get to know him, without "jumping" into conditioning. He took the time to understand us, our dog's behaviors, and tailored a program to uplevel Buddha slowly (place, relaxing around food, learning how to walk properly, with a gentler prong collar, and then an e-collar). He also helped Buddha learn how to 'communicate' with other dogs and 'socialize' properly in a safe space (not a random dog park). When we visited Buddha, we could tell he respected and liked Jose. I cried with happiness the day our dog came back :) He walked perfectly, he was confident, and knew how to communicate with other dogs. He was calmer in our home but still had his personality. We learned to make hard changes to our environment that was overstimulating for our dog and how to better communicate with him. Even though it's been hard enforcing changes at home, I feel so much happier with our structure. The intake process with Refinedk9 was a little confusing, as we talked to 3 different trainers over phone/email, although all of them recommended Jose for us. At the end of the day, we trusted our decision to move forward, and we are incredibly thankful to have our boy in the hands of a highly experienced and trustworthy dog trainer.
