When I heard about this place, I immediately asked 2 of my friends to go with me so that we could smash all the things! They require reservations ahead of time so they can prepare the rooms. It's recommended to plan a few weeks in advance if possible. You will need to sign a waiver stating that you won't break things that aren't meant to be broken (tables, doors, chairs, etc) and you cannot show up impaired (i.e. do not come here drunk or high). The most important thing to know is that you will have fun, but you also need to be safe and follow the rules. And definitely wear closed toe. Once we arrived, Christine and Terry greeted us and explained a few things regarding the location. 1. the front door is locked at all times 2. the back door needs to be kept unlocked (per order of the fire marshall) 3. they have cameras all of the building inside and outside to monitor al activity 4. they do not recommend wearing jewelry inside and they had places to leave our items on a table. No, there is not a locker or a safe. You will need to leave your items on a table where Terry and Christine will be watching it while you are smashing. No one else will be in the building so your stuff will be safe. *However, if you are not comfortable with leaving your items with them, I would recommend not bringing these things with you. Once we heard those rules, we were given overalls to put on. Terry gave us each a clean set and they had places for us to sit down to put them on. The three of us had to roll the legs up quite a bit, and they recommend rolling them up and not under (nice tip!). Once we had over overalls on, Christine took us into the Smash Room to talk through some of the rules and to show us what we would be smashing. Since Terry heard that we were all in education and administration, he found us a computer monitor and told us that it would probably be fun to smash that (which is was)! Christine talked us through the do's and don't's of the smash room and then we were escorted out to the lobby where Terry had gloves set out for us and then we selected out weapons from the "weapon wall". He then helped us get our face shields on and we had to make sure they were tight enough not to fall off or come loose while smashing. We took some photos before the smashing began which was nice to see the before! Once all our PPE (overalls, gloves, face shield) were on and we had the rules in the room, we were ready to go. 2 additional things that we had to come up with for our group: 1. the name of our group (for the title of the video) 2. what kind of music did we want to listen to since there is an Alexa in the room Be sure you think about these things in advance if you don't like to be put on the spot. We opted for the recording of our smash session which was a small uncharge, but so worth it! They recorded the first 5 minutes to share on social media and then after those 5 minutes are up, they alert you so that you can turn the music up and continue smashing. In total, you get 20 minutes to break things, smash things, and just go crazy (in a safe way). I think my friends and I were very organized in how we did our smashing and I know we would all do it again! Once our time was up, we were alerted by Terry knocking on the door and then he asked us to return our weapons (so they could clean them for the next group) and the ask us to take our gloves off and was our hands. Then they provide a bottle of water (you will need it)! Then they have you sit down to take off the overalls, and put them in a pile for washing. We had a few minutes to go back into the room to take photos of the room and the damage we did. We were also able to add some sticky notes to the wall (think of something fun to say)! I would definitely recommend this for a small group (max 5 people per room). It's a great way to get some stress relief and it just feels good. Thanks Terry and Christine for a fun afternoon activity. I look forward to doing this again.

Paint whereever you want in the room as well! No rules!

My boyfriend and I have never done anything like this and we weren't sure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised by the lovely couple who owns this establishment. They greeted us with friendly smiles and kindness that only comes from small businesses. We booked the splatter paint session with canvas. The whole appointment was easy and fun, as it should be right? From the actual spatter paint session, with no rules and an Alexa speaker to ourselves, to small talk with the wonderful owners we had an amazing experience for our anniversary and will be back to SMASH!

I went this past Tuesday - it was the perfect rainy day activity! From the moment I walked in, everyone was nothing but friendly, helpful and accommodating. One of the ladies showed me around. Apparently they had just come back from a workshop and learned some new techniques. I fell in love with one of them and decided to do it for one of my pieces. It involved layering four different colors and using paper leaf cut-outs. I think it took me bout an hour to complete! Such a relaxing process and so much fun! I also painted a small plate freehand. That probably took about another hour. Throughout my time there, the ladies would occasionally check in to make sure I was doing alright. And they were always available if I had any questions.

The host was pretty hands off after that they weren't actively helping get colors for the kids who were all really young. There were only two people painting other than the party at the time. They also didn't tell the parents throwing the party that it would be over two weeks to get the items back until the day of the party and that one person would need to pick them all up. The kids had a fun experience but it definitely could have gone more smoothly and been more organized.

They have hundreds of artists create pieces live in front of you throughout the event and then they auction off the pieces to fund the studio. I was immediately intrigued and addicted. We have been every year since. Since that first event, St. Louis City Open Studios and Gallery has become one of my top "kid friendly" places in this city. They offer fun and educational art-centered classes for kids as well as open studio hours six days a week. Your "little" can learn how to throw some clay onto a wheel, string their own necklace, or illustrate their own book. My personal favorite is the kid and me class on Saturday afternoons. For one hundred bucks you get six weeks of uninterrupted quality family time with all of the art supplies as well as an art instructor provided. Who knows...you may have given birth to the next Picasso and never have known it with all that time they spend on the Wii. I am all for getting out and getting hands on and SCOSAG provides the perfect environment for good ole fashion fun. Love Live Creativity!

The pressure kicks in so that adds to the fun. I went with my fellow Yelp elite members so we had a large group so we played two rounds and ensured everyone got a a turn in 2 hours. The time really flies so enjoy every minute! A tip would be to come up with your best family friendly nickname so the MCs can call you to the stage! The two MCs were so welcoming and supportive of all of our members. They even made a few modifications for us who needed to be seated versus standing. That is a huge plus for mobility accessibility. The game room is not too noisy and all the words or numbers were large on the screen too for those with auditory concerns. The venue was very accessible and the restroom was gender neutral but I did not see a changing table to maybe leave the little littles at home. There is a room to set up banquet tables if you host a party to eat. They also sell juice, tea, lemonade, beer, seltzer, soda, and wines!
