I loved smash burger when they first came out. I lived in Colorado where they originated. The problem with that is, not all employees will value your vision as the company grows. I visited this location in the past and was not impressed. Today was a different experience, came in during the buy one get one offer. The pricing has gone up so much. The prices have increased and the size of the items have decreased. The shake for example. Between the cup being filled and the extra. Seemed like it was anywhere between 12-16 oz's. The size of the burger also looks a little slimmer. Had a bacon cheeseburger as pictured, bacon was not good quality. The food was delicious with the offer. Not sure about dropping $40 on burgers without a beer offer. The fries were nice and crispy, but again the order seemed a little smaller than before. It's a hit or miss. If you're in the area give it a try. But I would not go out of my way. The service was definitely an attentive improvement and friendly. Tried Smashburger for the first time recently, the food was delicious! I got the avocado bacon club burger and it tasted very fresh. Definitely a one-up on usual fast food burgers that don't taste fresh or healthy. I was very pleased with the food, and look forward to trying more burgers from them in the future. The service was incredibly friendly, with one star taken off only because it was incredibly slow, even though we were the only people in there ordering and there was at least 5 people in the kitchen, it did take them a while to finish our food. In a strip mall plaza, which has a good amount of parking, but is cramped. Doesn't look like much from the outside. Pretty nice on the inside, looked clean. Was quiet on a Saturday afternoon around 4:30/5pm. Was greeted and waited on immediately, the time it took to get my order was reasonable, and order was correct. Though was pretty heavy on the mayonnaise (see picture)... and i wish I'd known that's all they put on a burger, I would've asked for something else. I guess that's on me, I didn't check or research. But their burgers are good, fresh ingredients, good meat. They should do a house sauce, at least Russian or something. Mayo is kind of a bland topping. Fries were kinda cold, and I literally ate the food in my car, not as if I waited very long. As the British would say "smashing good". Or would is be "bloody good show"? Either way I believe the term means "this is damn good". I've seen the burger franchise every now and then. Most recently at IAD (I know you read that review) with a line as long as the terminal itself. So when I saw nobody in line and after not getting a burger at BK (another review I know you read) I couldn't pass up on the opportunity and happy tummy glad I didn't. Passing through the doors I noticed a pickup menu station. Smart idea to pick up a menu and exam it at a table before ordering. That way a jerk doesn't hold up the line. After determining what I wanted, I headed up to the cashier and sure enough held up the line. To me it's embarrassing when the servers or cashiers make a suggestion and then the second guessing comes in. I know I wanted the single bacon burger and she threw in the tots with truffle oil. She had me at truffle oil. I took my seat and about five mins later she delivered my meal. Simple basket but when she found out that I was a first timer she brought me a side order of smash sauce. Ashley told me what was in it but I was in burger nirvana. No not the record title I was enjoying my burger with the sauce!!!! To my surprise, no honey but there was a pinch of sweetness. The burger was simple and good. They use the thick cut bacon and it wasn't greasy and not too crunch where it falls apart after one bite. And those tots were better then the fries I got from Blue Plate (I know you read the review). That truffle oil out of this world. My only regret was not getting a large. Overall five guys errr stars. This burger joint is way better the that other guys. Like the pun, anyway plenty of parking since it's in a strip mall. Plenty of seating with open space. The service is fantastic. Had to see what all the hype was about so we ordered onion strings, tots, smash fries, two different burgers, a chicken sandwich and the Brussels. The tots were crispy but the fries and strings were not. They were all dripping grease though. The burgers and chicken were made well. No lack of enough toppings. The burger stayed together well. However, for the items ordered I was disappointed in the lack of flavor. The Brussels were a bit too salty to eat. Smashburger feels like it peaked, fizzled out, then reached a sort of plateau that it has sat at ever since. When I first went to Smashburger I was really excited; a smashed burger is a lot different from a regular burger, as the outside caramelizes and blackens to make for a wonderful, rich griddle flavor. And theirs were done expertly. The fries (particularly the Smash Fries with rosemary and olive oil) were excellent too, with a great deal of flavor that still feels unusual for a fast food restaurant, but they work. Over time, their menu has gotten smaller, the less-busy dining room has been slower to clean, the fries have gotten a bit too oily, and the burgers appear smaller and have lost that unique edge. It's almost as if they were made smaller so that I could be upsold for a double, which I never will. My last two visits, none of the tables were clean enough to sit at without wiping down myself. Service has been apathetic at best. The burgers, while passable, lacked seasoning. It's a shame, I hope it gets figured out. read more

That said, I've been twice, and it's averaged $58 to feed a family of four with a few treats (4 milkshakes + four burgers with sides + one additional side to share). That tempts me to lower my expectations a little (and lower my cash outlay a LOT) and just hit normal fast food joints. Extra golf clap for the variety of patty options, however. The people are friendly, the seating area is pretty accommodating, service is middle-of-the-road prompt, and the value feels not-awesome. But if you happen to park near one and the fragrance emanating from within tempts you in...I wouldn't blame you for picking one of their offerings and giving it the old chew test. A-OK. read more

I've been going Trader Joe's for a while now and never really took note of the food options in the plaza until I was with a friend who raved about them. So today I made sure to stop for dinner before grocery shopping. The menu is overwhelming with the options, but simple to navigate and understand. They have menu staples of burgers, or you can make your own. Chicken is offered as well. You can order sides, milkshakes or beer and wine. The latter really makes this place stand out from the competition. I opted for the basic smashburger, beef, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, smash sauce and ketchup. And I ordered a side of fried pickles with ranch dip. The wait was pretty short, a few minutes. It left me enough time to use the bathroom and sit. Staff was friendly, and even brought me my order to my table so I could take it to go. As I walked to my car I regretted not ordering fries and wish I hadn't ordered the fried pickles. I usually am disappointed and get sick of the fried pickles quickly. When it came time to eat, I was pleased at how neatly my to go bag was prepared. My burger was neatly put together in a clear plastic container. The quality is distinguishable. The fried pickles were also of quality, and not super greasy. While I didn't finish, I ate least ate more than I would have at other places. I'd recommend sharing these with a pal! My order came to $9 and change. Pretty good value for a great quality product. This is a chain that is like "Five Guys" meets a Hipster, and you get this love child with a couple of the downsides of both. Five Guys downside is it doesn't have much in the way for Hipsters, meaning chicken burgers or black bean burgers and fancy ingredients like truffle salt. You get that here on your choice of meat or "faux-meat". Hipsters typically like everything fancy but can't do anything themselves. They dress like a lumberjack but don't know how to set up a tent. You get that mentality when it comes to making a juicy burger. So you get fancy but lack structure... Wife and I went in and we both got the Jalapeño burgers. The regular is a 5 oz patty, large is 6 oz, you can double the regular or large burgers and I decided to do double large with a fried egg on top. We ordered the fried pickles and Smash fries (rosemary and olive oil). Fries were shoestring style and pretty good. Not too crispy, not too oily. All in all a decent fry, but no where near as good as those at Five Guys or In & Out. The fried pickles were equivalent to a burning dumpster fire in disappointment. The breading wasn't that great, the texture was lost on the pickle, and honestly the worst fried pickles I have had anywhere. The burgers were really greasy on the outside and dry on the inside. I really have no clue how you do that. Leave it to the Hipster concept to come up short on making a decent burger. Maybe if I ordered a chicken burger of faux-meat burger, it would have been cooked right and been juicy in the middle. The only saving grace was that the avocado and Jalapeño were awesome on it and did a good job masking the dryness of the burger. All in all, if you are a person who can't eat beef, go here, at least you can pretend to eat it. If you eat beef, go to the other places that do burgers for the same price or less. In all honesty, other than the giant salads here and faux-meat burgers, I really see no advantage to coming here over going to Five Guys, Red Robin, In & Out, Steak Shake, or any of the 100 other super specialty burger joints who cater to meat eaters... Decided to try SmashBurger on the way to a basketball tournament because my daughter was looking for a burger and I wanted to try it. We got a hamburger, a cheeseburger, regular fries, smash fries (I'm garlic, rosemary and olive oil) and shakes (vanilla and chocolate). There was a line, but it moved fast and there was plenty of seating. Staff was very friendly, patient and helpful. The burgers are small, you'll probably be somewhat surprised by just how small they are, but just the right size for lunch, and at $5, you can always get two. They are tasty, well cooked on a nice roll. It's a good burger. The fries are thin cut, crispy and seasoned. The regular fries are mostly tasteless. The smash fries are much more interesting and worthwhile. The shakes are good. Made with Haagen Dasz ice cream and come in and old fashioned soda shop glass with a straw and the extra (enough for another glass) in a metal mixing cup. Old school.
