Last time I brought my dog there for grooming I was very specific about the hair length on my goldendoodle and they completely brought her down to a close shave. Complete 1000% miscommunication. It ended up being not that bad as the summer months were approaching, but it was not what I had requested. Recently I brought her in to used their self-serving shampoo station and whatever was in their product it completely bleached my dog's coat. I love this place! They do a great job on my cocker spaniel mix pups hair. He has quite the mop but always comes out looking like a brand new boy! My Scottish Terrier had a great grooming experience here! He has had some awkward hair cuts in his days, but the groomer took the time to understand how my dog usually is cut and what his temperament is like. This was the last time. We knew our small dog would come back looking like a rat because she had a couple tangles in her fur. She looks horrible. A golden doodle turned chihuahua. But the last straw was our golden retriever. We've been grooming and brushing him and he had a zero knots, zero tangles - he just needed a trim. We told them to take 1/2 inch off. He came back literally bald. I don't know if they are lazy, just short staffed or both. Horrible horrible grooming and the price for both dogs was close $200 bucks. I have sent my dog, a miniature Australian Shepherd, to smelly dog for grooming services a number of times. I was always perplexed by the smell that my dog was returned with, it smelled very similar to the outdoor dirty smell that she had when she left my home. Her coat was always dull, her Paw nails were never clipped, even when we were paying for grooming and trims her hair was wild and long and especially around her anus where we specifically paid for it to be cut. It became clear to me that they were essentially taking my dog for three hours and giving her back to me in the exact same condition and charging me over $100 for fraudulent scam. Please save your money, and DO NOT send your dog here. Petsmart has an excellent grooming service for pups and there are so many other services that are not fraudulent scams. This is a waste of time and money by way of grooming. And if they are cutting this corner, you know they're cutting other corners. I would not recommend this business at all. read more

We used to love this place but lately it to just been a terrible experience. This last time it took them 5 hours to groom my medium size dog, they didn't trim his nails, and they shaved him down even after we asked them to keep him longer and just clean him up. It's like they weren't listening. Their systems was down so they couldn't call us and when we showed up at 4 hours (because they told us he would be done in 2.5) he still hadn't even been started. I have mixed emotions with Smelly Dog. Pros: Close to home, reasonably priced, and they do a fine job with cutting my dog's hair. Here are the cons: I feel like something is always missing when I bring my dog home. Most of the time, I have my bf pick her up and so of course, I do not expect him to scrutinize her. There are times I feel like they don't cut her nails and/or my biggest "pet" peeve is not shaving the insides of her ear. I've been to several groomers before and I always thought it was common to have the inside of the ears trimmed/shaven. If it wasn't for the distance, I would have my "reservations" to one pet grooming salon in particular. However, it's just too far of a drive for me. So, I have been going to this place for the past year now - and if it wasn't for their practice of scheduling service every six weeks and calling to remind me, I don't know if I would be going as much. The last visit, my dog did look darling and she smelled good. However, I did decide to pick her up this time and I checked at the store if her ears were shaven - and they were not. Earlier, I did request that the inside of her ears are shaven and to grind her nails. So the groomer took her back and shaved the inside of her ears. For some reason, those requests issued a $10 increase in price = $57 + tip. Again, I am not sure if I am a fan or not, but I go because well, they are down the street and I am too lazy to look for somewhere more than a mile away. read more

I have been coming here for many years I came from their original location which I think was on seventh Avenue. I've noticed a lot of negative comments and I guess it all just depends on when you come. I will say are usually come with my pitbull which obviously there's not that much grooming needed. I have received nothing but great care they are always very friendly. Today I came by just to pick up cupcakes as this is the place I come toEvery time it is one of my dogs birthday. I happen to notice a customer being actually really rude. I guess I can understand the frustration, but the staff asked for a phone number and that person just responded in a very mean way I don't know the situation I don't know what happened before hand and I don't know why they would have different phone numbers on the account but what I can say is this reaction remind me of some of the reviews I've seen on here I've only experienced a good experience here and I don't ever really get frustrated over simple questions And I don't have a dog that requires much work but if I have a problem they're quick to solve it they've been nothing but kind so my rating still hasn't changed. This is still the only place I go to to get my dogs groomed and I want to say it's been like 4 to 6 years. And like I mentioned earlier I buy all my dogs cupcakes and birthday stuff from here. Amazing staff with wonderful hearts and skills. We had to schedule a very last minute appointment for both of our dogs - we called and got an appointment on the very same day, and were in and out in less than 3 hours! They groomed our dogs just the way we asked them to. They kept us updated and were very understanding and honest about our dogs quirks/likes/dislikes. One of our dogs, who we recently adopted, likes to jump and tried to escape so they had to put him in a kennel after he got groomed. We did not mind one bit as most groomers put our dogs in kennels after being groomed anyway, but were very appreciative that they told us about it and that they did what they think was best to keep our dog safe! Our other one doesn't have springs for feet, so she was free to roam around in their designated area. We highly recommend this place and will definitely be back! read more

I brought my dogs (shih tzus) in for a mini groom yesterday. Upon walking In the groomer asked me what I wanted and I was specific (a mini groom) which included sanitary areas, nail trim fur pads, and bath . Upon handing my dogs over one to one of the employees, he accidentally dropped my dog on his face (which I understand my dog is a bit squirmy) I proceeded to leave my dogs thinking everything would be okay. I came to pick up my dogs after 4 hours. They send me a text that one dog was ready one hour after drop off and no text for my other dog. I waited two hours before I had to call to see if he was ready. The lady at the front desk told me they had been ready and I had no idea because I did not receive a text nor a call. One dog seemed complete while my other dog still has long nails and fur pads weren't cleaned up not to mention the sanitary area wasn't even cleaned up. I am very disappointed as I heard this place had great reviews and my drive is about 30mins away. In my opinion it was a waste of $100. Waste of my time and money. I should have checked my dogs before leaving the establishment to make sure the job was done correctly. If there was an issue grooming my dog then I should have been called and I would have understood that they weren't able to complete my dog due to him being difficult. However I didn't even receive a phone call, they just happily charged me $100 for a dog that wasn't properly groomed. read more

It was my dog Riley's 7th birthday and I didn't have time to make her a cake. I searched for doggy bakeries in town and found Smelly Dog. It was super easy to find however, parking was very tight. There was only 3 spots and they were all taken when I pulled in. Thankfully someone was walking out and I was able to park. There is a great assortment of toys, treats, foods, collars and their own little bakery. There was fresh cakes waiting to be frosted and decorated. The gal working was super helpful and polite and got working on the cake. The small cake decorated was $29 which is a little pricey but worth it for my girl. We got our cake and celebrated after dinner and she LOVED it! I cut it into 4 pieces so she will have a few days of her cake left. I am definitely glad I found this gem and have already told other friends and family about it. Thanks Smelly Dog for making my fur child's birthday extra special!!! read more

*DO NOT GO HERE* The shaved my dog that is never supposed to be shaved. I was in shock when I picked her up. They accepted no responsibility and just said "you said short". It is a known fact some breeds should never be shaved and why do I have to tell you that. You SHOULD know this. I waited to post this until I spoke with the owner in hopes she would care. NOPE! The other reviews are correct. She does not accept responsibility and does not care what her people do to your animals. It was very clear. Smelly dog is ok, if you want your dog completely shaved down for no reason. It seems as though the groomers only know one way to cut, which is to shave everything. I have a Cavalier that had some very small matting on his ears, from his daily trips to the water bowl. This is nothing new, but my regular groomer, who has never had to shave his ears, was not available. My dog never goes more than 3 weeks without grooming, so when I say matting, it's not like a stray that's been out in the wild for a year or anything. So, as soon as I said the word "matting", out comes a signature form for me to sign, basically alleviating Smelly Dog from any wrong doing from what was about to happen. It's essentially a document that allows them to do the easiest, fastest cut and you have no grounds for being upset, because you signed this sham document. I should have known what was going to happen when the form came out. I mean, they must get a ton of pissed off people to have a form ready to go at a moments notice. I would never recommend this place to anyone that wants a specific breed cut, because you'll simply get a shaved dog. Maybe it should be re-named, Shaved Dog, because we can't take our time and do it right. read more

I only hope this review gets read by others that are thinking about taking their pet here. I took my dog here for years and if you think this is about a $248 vet bill, I am sorry. If this was about money I wouldn't be getting my 11lb dog groomed for $50-$70 every month for the last 4+ years. This is about acknowledging neglect while a pet was in your care and how to remedy this issue for future pets that don't have a voice. I own a business myself, the reason why happy customers don't leave a review is because their return business is their review. The fact that they are continuously spending their money with your business is all you need. Think about what you say and how you respond, it's ridiculous. Just like all the other recent reviews, the response from Jackie was unacceptable and she clearly takes no fault in anything that happens at smelly dog. We have been taking Harvey to smelly dog for years. On our most recent grooming appointment, Harvey was left in good spirit and when we picked him up he clearly wasn't okay. One of his eyes was shut closed. We called 10 minutes after picking up Harvey to ask if they were aware of an issue while grooming him. They suggested an ointment which we bought on our way home and then took him to the vet the very next morning. The vet suggested it could be a chemical burn from a cleaning product they used but it can also be from numerous other things. Fine, I get that. I understand mistakes happen. To have a dog in your position who has had trauma to his eye and not mention it to us when we picked him up or even worse not even notice there was an issue is beyond me. Talking to Jackie was a waste of time as she was in defense mode the whole time. Pretty sad when we have given them our business for years. You would think they would care about a long time loyal customer but that isn't the case. Don't take my review for it, look at all the other recent reviews and you will understand how important it is to take your pet elsewhere where they may take responsibility for their actions. We didn't even care about the vet bill, in fact the vet was the one that suggested we give the bill to smelly dog. $248 means nothing to me when my little guy is hiding in the corner of the closet for almost two weeks because he is in discomfort. I was only looking for acknowledgment of a mistake that occurred and how to fix that issue with future pets so they don't go through what my boy went through. Shame on you Jackie and Smelly Dog.
