Dr. Farr showed me his newest, updated dental equipement as we walked to the dental chair and his office was immaculately clean. As a new patient this made me feel very comfortable. If you haven't been to the dentist lately or are afraid, Dr. Farr would be the dentist to go to. Dr. Farr is very compassionate, has a calming effect, experienced, professional, patient, he explains things and dedicated to providing you with the highest standard of dental care. He really cares about his patient's. I can see why, Dr. Michael Farr was voted 2015's Best Dentist in Huntley IL and Voted Top General Dentist in Barrington IL in 2016. I genuinely wish I could rate this in negative stars... never have I dealt with a more unprofessional place of business. I have been here for 3 years and gone 2 times because they keep cancelling my appointments and I can't reschedule until past the 6 month marker. Don't say you're available for new business if you clearly can't handle the baby amount they have. AVOID THIS OFFICE. PERIOD. I came here after a major car accident because my regular dentist couldn't get me in. The cleaning itself was fine--but the front office (specifically the so-called "office manager") is an absolute disaster and completely ruined the experience. Because of the accident, my previous dentist mistakenly billed a cleaning the same night, which caused an insurance mix-up and left a temporary balance on my account. It was already being corrected. A simple, routine fix. Instead of handling it like a competent professional, the office manager chose hostility. Getting an itemized bill--basic, standard practice--was like pulling teeth. She talked over me, came in with attitude from the start, and then told me, "It's your bill, you need to pay it now," followed by threats of sending me to collections. This was after I clearly explained the situation, including that the original office had already reversed the charge. Zero empathy. Zero professionalism. Zero interest in resolving the issue. No acknowledgment of the accident. No willingness to listen. Just aggressive, dismissive behavior. Then it escalated. I had my insurance company initiate a three-way call to clear everything up. She immediately interrupted, started raising her voice, and then hung up mid-conversation saying, "We're done." That is unacceptable. That is unprofessional. That is not how any legitimate office operates. I've worked in the dental field--I understand insurance and billing. This was an easy fix. Instead, it was turned into unnecessary conflict. Bottom line: hostile staff, poor communication, and a complete inability to problem-solve. This office lost a family of three over something that should've taken minutes to resolve. There are far better, more competent dental offices out there. Go somewhere else--somewhere that actually knows how to treat patients like human beings. read more

Used to be great, now it is god awful! Most of all the old staff is gone, the new Dr there is nice, but NOT good. The management at the front is TERRIBLE! She is so rude, AND they will for sure overcharge you. The Dr messed up my crown AND my front tooth repair. Not even a couple months after getting both of them done there, I had to go to somewhere else to get both of them fixed. I went back multiple times to Smiles by Farr to try and fix what ever was going on. Still was not right. They overcharged me by $310 and didn't tell me! Just put it as a credit on my account! I had to fight with the manager for at LEAST a month to get the money back. I do not trust this office at all, and clearly the reviews are starting to change as well. If you are in the Huntley area, I would go to Dental Arta of Huntley, they are fantastic and very accommodating. read more

Avoid this practice at all costs. Read other reviews about their business practices. I was satisfied with the dental work done. However, the front office is unprofessional and dishonest. My quote without insurance out of pocket was just shy of $2300 which I paid. They billed my insurance on February 10 before my procedure...I knew I exceeded my max benefit...but also knew I would get the contracted rate...based on my EOB...the contracted rate was just under $1600 which meant the estimate was high and I was owed a refund since the scope never changed. Knowing I needed another procedure done, I purchased another policy the day before I went into their office to check benefits for my 2nd procedure. They submitted this claim and reaped the only benefit for the 1st procedure even though a claim had already been submitted to the insurance that was valid during my first visit. They reaped an additional $750 and then used the higher contract rate and billed me for an additional $660. Their own statement and estimate validates this. And the other reviews are accurate...when I called to point this information out, I was spoken over, interrupted and spoke down to. When I asked if I could finish a sentence, an excuse was I was cutting out. If I was cutting out, then how come I got full responses?? If the person I spoke with was truly unable to hear me, why wouldn't she just say this instead of interrupting me? She used this as an excuse. When I have questioned this in email and pointed out the estimate said my out of pocket was without insurance, I didn't get a response other than I should speak with my insurance company. I asked for the practice owner to contact me to discuss this matter and his team member's unprofessionalisn our daughter overheard. It's clear this is their standard practice after seeing other reviews. I doubt I will hear from Dr. Farr. read more

Dr. Farr is by far the best dentist around. Not many people can say they fell asleep during a root canal but I did. And his assistant Cassandra is by far the sweetest person ever, she goes about and beyond what a normal assistant does. They have a history of last minute cancellations for our household. One or two cancellations I can understand but they know they currently have only one part time hygienist. Why wait to the day before to cancel? We have been cancelled on multiple times (this doesn't include times when a staff member or dentist has a family emergency -we understand and appreciate that those cancellations are unavoidable). Last year they provided a quote for some extensive work that I prepaid in full. After the services were completed, they said I still owed about $250 for laughing gas that the insurance declined (the figure wasn't $250 - it may have been more / less). Their quote already included the laughing gas as my expense (it anticipated that it would be declined by insurance based on the pre-authorization call ). They told me I was incorrect and that I owed the $250. I said to look at the quote and that they would see that I paid in full including the laughing gas. They replied they had gone through a system conversion and didn't have the proposal. Sooooo OK how did they do firmly know I was wrong? I dug through my paperwork and supplied the quote. They corrected the billing but had attitude. As though they were doing me a favor by honoring their proposal. No apologies. I have no complaints about the dental work / care provided - just the billing issue. The hygienist, who had left this practice, was awesome. She is why we stayed at this dental office. Dr Farr is fine and I am sure he is competent but this dental office has serious scheduling and billing issues. I waited to post this review and was going to let the billing issue slide but this latest last minute cancellation was unacceptable. read more

after 5 mins of cleaning they go and check my insurance to see how to maximize, while doing zero cleaning then trying to schedule 4 sessions after having zero cavities , this place has good dentist but they love to scam you insurance and do it with a smile I recommend Huntley dental by McDonalds in town at least they are honest and do good work, stay away from smiles by farr scammers read more

Dr Farr was extremely rude and entitled . Raising his voice at my wife. Telling her she had a crown . I think she might have noticed. They don't keep very good records. We asked for copies which they never presented. We live in walking distance and will never be back. I could a staff member raising her voice on speaker phone. read more

My husband went there for a cleaning . We received a bill in the mail for 93.00 , which was unusual because we've never received a bill before our insurance covers this procedure. I called and inquired about it and spoke with Danielle, she was extremely rude and very unprofessional. She wasn't helping and argued with me and basically called my husband a liar. After accidently hitting myself with pliers and broke my front crown, Dr. Farr was able to rebuild the tooth enough to glue it back on! I was fearing the worst of buying and fitting for a new crown. Thanks Dr. Farr. Where else can you have dental work while watching TV and laying down on a heated massage chair! Dr. Farr closed his practice in Buffalo Grove and opened a new location in Huntley, IL. I still drove 50 minutes out to Huntley to repair my crown and check out his new location. It was worth it. I have been going to Dr Farr for close to a year now. Every time I sit in his chair he is completely focused 100% on my health, pain level and outcome. On my first visit with Dr Farr, he took the time & created 3 comprehensive care plans for me to chose from. He didn't just say, " here... this is what needs to be done", I had a say in what my treatment would be. Dr Farr and his staff should be used as a model for all dentists as well as medical offices to follow. When I first went to Dr Farr my teeth were so bad I could barely open my mouth to speak fear someone would see my terrible teeth.
