Not sure where the disconnect is with other reviews but my experience has been nothing less than excellent. From Gabby at the front desk who got me in the very next day to the guy at the front desk who checked me in and the lady who checked me out , everything was awesome. Called on a Tuesday, seen on a Wednesday, root canal done on Thursday. Please let me know where else this is done at?! My appt was at 2. I got called in about 10 minutes after. Which is totally fine. I received an apology for the tardiness and it was smooth sailing from there. They did not BS me. Everything was explained and taken care of right there. read more

I had a treatment with them in February 2023. I immediately paid the portion that was not covered by my insurance, and everything seemed fine. However, in May 2024, they reached out to me, asking me to pay over $2,000 for that treatment. The statement they sent was different from the one I received in February 2023. After several discussions and email exchanges, they assured me they would fix the issue. But today, I received a bill stating that I still owe the $2,000, which should have been covered by my insurance. This has been a horrible, horrible experience, waste tons of my time! read more

This place is amazing and totally saved me! Came in as a new patient while in so much pain in need of a wisdom tooth extraction. I called so many other places before I called here and spoke to Carmen who was a totally gem and was able to get me in that same day after I told her how bad I was feeling. I could not be more thankful! The oral surgeon is great. I was in and out of there so quick after my extraction and truly felt taken care of with the attention I received from doctors and staff. I love the kindness and the professionalism and have officially made this my new dental office moving forward! read more

Made an appointment for a regular cleaning and checkup. First appointment, they only took x-ray photos (30 of them- have never had that many photos required at any dentist previously) and told me I needed to schedule a separate appointment for cleaning. In the end, I required a filling and was recommended sealants. Paid over $300. Over a month later, was sent bills saying insurance rejected my claims and I owed an additional $300. Will never return to this office. read more

Stay away!!!! Read on to see why. I got a call from gentle dentals Business manager about the review I left, she asked what happened I told her the same thing that I wrote in the review. She apologized and told me she would get back to me to correct this incident. Nor she or anyone else from gentle dental ever reached out again. Fast-forward down the road a couple years the root canal that they did I now had to go to a specialist to fix which I'm in the process of doing when I started the work today the specialist told me that the crown was also done incorrectly and there was a gap left which now I have to replace the crown as well. For a job that was suppose to cost me a total of $360 I am now $1080 in, and I still have to replace the crown which will be another great expense. Please stay away from this gentle dental they will take your money and do a very poor job read more

I had a frustrating experience here because it felt like a big waste of time/cashgrab. I was able to schedule first visit within a couple days. Dentist stressed that I needed an extraction as I had a really bad infection - but I would have to schedule to come back another time as he would not extract the tooth during that visit. So I scheduled an appt but then re-scheduled as I wanted to ensure I had the funds available in my account (the office requires you to pay up front for anything that your insurance does not cover. ) I called three different times attempting to re-schedule this appointment. Each time, the phone was answered by the same woman. Without asking my name, she would insist that my appointment was in Cambridge. Each day, I had to explain that it was not and that I had spoken with her the day previously. For whatever reason, she was resistant in offering available timeslots. She kept asking, "When do you want to come?" and "He won't be here" so instead, I finally just asked what dates the dentist would be available, and was given vague dates 4-6 weeks out but could not give me exact dates when the dentist would be available. I kept thinking she was having a bad day and that's why she didn't seem helpful. I received the same type of response from the same woman each day but with varying availability, and I eventually ran out of patience. There was no reason for her to be rude and there was no reason that it should've taken more than 1 phone call to schedule an appt. I did send an email to the office and never received a response. They took XRays, which is pretty frustrating because my insurance will only pay every 2 years - but I kept getting the runaround everytime I called the office to schedule the appt. read more

The advertised $57 new patient deal is subject to a number exceptions, including if you *use your insurance*. I had a very hot and cold experience here. I came in after a tooth injury and was told I need a root canal, I was seen by Dr. Gervasio. However, the entire time I felt barely listened to, it was like I might as well have not been there. Essentially nothing was explained to me, every sentence was rushed through I was asked few questions and every time I did it was like I wasn't saying anything, I didn't feel heard. I had no idea what was going on and he never slowed down to help me understand. I also was supposed to receive the full new patient special, full X rays and a "comprehensive" exam. Complaints of pain on both sides of the face weren't listened to, I didn't get full x rays and only the one tooth was examined. However- the office staff here are incredible, and made this entire awful experience so much better. I have extreme dental anxiety and called a couple hours before my appointment about this and spoke with Jesse who calmed me down so much, I honestly don't think I could have gotten to the appointment without that conversation. Carmen was an angel, she worked with me when I was freaking out about not being able to afford the care I needed. She was kind, compassionate, and was completely there for me even after I walked out of the office. Any day like this is horrible and miserable, but I don't think I could've gotten through it without the kindness of Carmen and Jesse read more

The reception was very rude and they like to rip customers off and over charge them. They will bill the insurance then bill you.

I did not have any problems during the regular 3 months cleaning visits. But , on the third appointment the Dental hygienist that i got was very rude and rough during the cleaning. To begin with, the chair that i sat on was dirty which i did not mind cleaning, nothing was said or done by the DH who saw it. During the cleaning, she was very rough the entire time. So much so that it took two weeks for me to recover from that ( a general cleaning) . I did not want to go back after that, so i called to get my dental records sent to me . But, it was denied by the lady at the front desk. She said that she could not send anything else except for the x-rays. I begged for them to send me the x-rays via email and the lady at the front desk again said that " she did not have the time to send it". They sent the x-rays after 2 days. This whole thing was a nightmare to deal with. I would leave a 0 rating if i could. read more

I just wanted to give a shout out to Dr Fessler and Dr Han at Gentle Dental in Somerville. I just had a complex extraction performed by Dr Han and it was quick and completely painless. Dr Fessler has performed multiple root canals , crowns and fillings again all completely painlessly. Dr Fessler has answered my texts even on his days off. The support staff is consistently friendly and helpful. So happy I discovered this practice! read more

I love Drs., K,Shelly and He BUT the office staff is making me crazy. Changed appts., too many reminder calls (4!), questions for dentist not forwarded. The only staff person who is both proficient and professional is the woman who does the billing (sorry I've forgotten her name). The rest seem to be in rotating chairs. The Office Manager is useless. I only stay for the Dentists who are great and understand my fear of dentistry. read more

I called to schedule my appointment approximately two weeks ago, and I had the pleasure of speaking to Priscilla while doing so. I had questions about my insurance, and she was able to provide me with some good advice on how to sort things out with my providers. I called a few days later with my newly acquired insurance provider information, and spoke with her again. I said my name, and she instantly knew who I was and recalled that I was coming in on Monday. She asked "were you able to get your insurance information?". I work in veterinary medicine, and I know firsthand how difficult it is to find front desk staff capable of providing service of that level She was on top of everything and instantly gave me a positive experience dealing with this practice. I went in yesterday for what I presumed was just going to be a consultation to establish doctor-patient relationship and game plan for extraction of wisdom teeth. I was greeted by Shafa, who put me at ease with small talk and did a great job explaining everything to me. It's not often acknowledged (in any branch of medicine) that nurses, hygienists, etc. pull a lot of weight in practice. She communicated in a friendly, knowledgeable, non-condescending manner, and she worked quick and efficiently at the same time. That is what makes a practice excellent. Once Shafa had my chart and rads ready for him, I met Dr. Klimashov. He went over my rads with me and explained in detail what was happening with my teeth, and established a treatment plan that happened to be different than my last dentist's. His plan was to be less invasive, and in turn less expensive than my last provider. He communicated clearly, held eye contact, and had clear answers to my questions. These are qualities of a good practitioner. Dr. Klimashov went over everything with me and then informed me that he could actually perform the dental extraction then and there! Perhaps I was scheduled in a way that would allow for this, but either way it was a pleasant surprise for me. Had I been less than confident in Dr. Klimashov's abilities, I would have felt either inclined to reschedule with someone else (inconvenient), or nervous about the quality of care I would receive by having the procedure done that day for convenience. My point is that same-day care is great, but it's nothing without trust-earning staff and doctors. Klimashov talked me through everything he was doing, which put me at ease. I've done very similar procedures myself (on animals), and I've got to say I was impressed with his accuracy, quick pace and ability to talk me through everything. Shafa did a great job assisting as well! To end my novel of a review, I'll just say that this experience by far exceeded hopes and expectations in many ways. I scheduled my next operation with them on my way out. Very highly recommend! read more

Over the weekend I developed an increasingly severe pain in my gum and jaw. By Sunday night, I could not sleep. Desperate for relief, I called my (formerly) regular dentist, Lang, first thing Monday morning and asked for an appointment as soon as possible. I explained that I thought I had an infection and that the pain was severe. I was told that the first available appointment was Friday, five days later. Fortunately, I found a dentist who could see me that day. I had a severe infection associated with a tooth that needs a root canal. It took fifteen minutes to take an x-ray, make a diagnosis, prescribe an antibiotic, and make a referral for the root-canal. Apparently that was fifteen minutes more than Lang had over five days for a long-time patient in urgent need of care. Lang Dental was happy to let me wait for five days in great pain with a severe infection until it was convenient for them to see me. These are not people who care about their patients or that you can depend on when you really need them. When choosing a dentist, these are things you should think about. After this experience, I would not recommend Lang to anyone. read more

I have had dentophobia for a few years after a very bad, prolonged, and torturous dental experience. I hate going to dentists and that (plus many other factors I'm not getting into here) led to very bad dental issues. I've had few good experiences with dentists, and realize what makes a good or bad dental office. This is a good dental office. The front desk staff is fun, nice, and inviting. They make you feel welcomed before you get into the chair. The dentist I met has great bed (well, chair) side manner, and is calming as well. I'm getting major procedures done out of state, but need a local dentist for cleanings and general dentistry. I will be coming here for all my dental needs. I highly, highly recommend this Gentle Dental. read more

Dr. Jangam is amazing. I haven't felt comfortable smiling in years, especially the last year because of a cavity that left a stain on my front teeth. But, Dr. Jangam is a miracle worker and an artist, and now my teeth look great and I can smile again. Gentle Dental Somerville so far has been great with communication. Very nice and helpful. Had to leave there today- terrible treatment from the dentist for my Mom- he poked and prodded in her mouth- leaving her sore and uncomfortable and he couldn't even find the cavity- then he tried to send her to a route canal specialist elsewhere when he couldn't even tell what the problem was- ridiculously expensive- charged $153 and did nothing- tried to drum up business for his colleagues at my Mom's expense- so glad to go back to our old dentist today. read more

It's sad to say but I am leaving this place. I am giving it 2 stars because they had great service. When it comes down to it I just can't go if they're nice, right? I went a few times and new this just was not right. 1st time-They ripped inside my mouth twice when trying to get the guard in my mouth for x-rays. ( I still have marks on my gums till this day!) 2nd time-Said I need a root canal but, it turned out to be a need to deep clean my tooth and they kept saying it was up to me if I still wanted to get it. " Didn't you tell me that I didn't need it?" why should I then, duh! 3rd time- Put a cap on my tooth that they "Thought" I needed a root canal on and it fell out once- That's good right? lol 4th time- Replaced the broken cap which they blamed me for when I told them I didn't do anything. It was rude and really it was a sloppy job. Even the glue was coming out of the sides of it. Really? 5th time and last- I knew I was tired of this and I was going to give it one more chance. I had to be fitted for my crown and finally replace the cap on my tooth. Well, it didn't fit and my dentist spent one hour filing it down and sticking in my mouth 15 times to get it to fit!!! The dentist even blamed me for moving when he fit me for the mold eventhough he said that it looked great. Really, it was crazy and it doesn't even feel right and at the end of it! I just wanted to leave and never come back. The moral of this story is if a Dentist messes up the first time- He probably will as many times as you let him. Don't waste your time and go to Gental Dental. They will get you at the door with the great hospitality and smiles. DON"T DO IT!! Well, that's if you want teach at 70. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would. I went to the Gentle Dental in Somerville, but befor my visit I called and gave my insurance info. Delta Dental, they looked me up and said yes we take your insurance. The cleaning was in May 2016. In October I received a bill for $351.86. They told me they do not take my insurance. WAIT WHAT? My Delta Dental was an EPO and they don't take that. Why couldn't they tell me that before the visit? I called and spoke to the Manager she said it was my responsibility to check my coverage so, because they got it wrong it was my fault. I did my due diligence and called before the cleaning. Now I am stuck with a $351.86 bill. The manager was rude and did not try to offer anything seeing that her staff told me I was covered. This was my first visit. Why I wasn't offered the 'new patient offer'. I would have happily paid $57 if I wasn't covered. I am telling anyone who will listen about how crappy they were, and will never visit a Gentle Dental again. read more

I went in there for one thing and I came out with a bunch of other problems, Dr Zarrabi is not good or professional at all. I had him do some work, and he ruined my teeth and when I asked him why he did that or why was it like that, he went and got the secretary. She came in and said he said you yelled at him so he doesn't want to work with me anymore which I Never yelled at him, I would never do that but when she first came in the room She sat in the chair, looked at me, snapping her gum blowing bubbles in my face staring at me for a few mins until I said, are you gonna talk to me or just sit there? Which I thought that was very rude of her and unprofessional.. She said he's best we ever had here.. I've never seen the same doctor twice there and I've been going there for a few yrs, It's a revolving door there, I wouldn't take my dog to get his teeth fixed there. I'm done with this place. I would give this place a -0 if I could.. I'm soo upset that he ruined my set of teeth.. Do NOT go here, you will regret it!!! read more

I'm over 30 and so I've been to a lot of dentists. Without a doubt, I can say that Gentle Dental was the best of the bunch. I could say a lot of things but let me give you a short list. 1. From the moment you step in, they're really nice. And you don't have to wait overly long to see the dentist. 2. The dentists are really skilled and they also very, very careful to minimize the pain that is part of any procedure. I want to give special recognition to Dr. Nina Doering who is exceptional at her work and really took extra time to explain many things to satisfy both my curiosity and my nerves. The oral surgeon Dr. Kamilshov (sp?) was very skillful and surprisingly fast at removing my wisdom teeth. The X-ray technicians and dental hygienists were also very professional. 3. I had lived in Boston for years before I walked in the door. I thought the $57/cleaning was a total scam. Not so! It's legit. It's a pretty sad world where every good deal seems like it's hiding a rip-off. ~ No place is perfect. My one complaint was that after I had my wisdom teeth removed, I don't think that my instructions were given to me clearly and slowly enough. :( Bottom line: Gentle Dental is the best dental practice I've ever been to. read more

Do NOT go here! I went here for years and thought everyone was amazing.  Until last year when I had one of the newer dentists recommend a root canal on what turned out to be the wrong tooth, which I learned through a second opinion (so glad I got one).  Fast forward to my current dentist at a different practice, who asked where I had my past work done and if I had it done outside of the country.  When I asked why she would think that, she mentioned that a filling and my root canals were 'very' poorly done.  She explained that 2 of my root canals were not fully treated and they missed entire roots.  This reminded me of a time when I had gone to Gentle Dental and saw a specialist who asked me the same question and he seemed surprised and shook his head when I said it had been with them. At the time I hadn't put two and two together, but now I know that his reaction was the same as my current dentist's. I also have a family member who was over charged and went back and forth with billing for months. I do NOT recommend this location! read more

I don't even know where I start. I called last month saying I needed to have my braces removed because I was having an allergic reaction to them. No one got back to me or tried to help me. I go in the for my appoint my and they force me to sign up for care credit in order to get my braces my taken off. It's messed to me. My credit score plummeted 48 points due to this account. Now I'm paying for braces to their office and care credit as well with an apr of 26.99, I had no idea the card had such a high apr. I got strong armed, the office hasn't been the same since Dr. Neil left. The woman who took off my braces was extremely rude to me. I asked her about having a wire placed behind my teeth like Dr. Neil and I have discussed she told me this wasn't Dr. Neil's office. Dr. Neil said I wouldn't need because the wire would keep everything in place to prevent my teeth from moving. I don't even know the name of the orthodontist I've been seeing, the scheduling is janky. I was treated unfairly. We are in the middle of the pandemic and I'm not working. I do feel like the office took advantage of me. They asked me for money at least 6x during the appointment. I didn't have the $500 for the retainer right then and there, nor did I have 2k on me to pay off the balance due for my braces. After I explained that I went to emergency room and seen several doctors for allergy they asked me if I could keep my braces on for another month because I couldn't afford to pay. Keep in mind this is literally the week before Christmas. I was in the so much pain taking Benadryl for over a month. I wouldn't recommend this office. The woman whom I interacted with in the front that processed the credit application was also rude. I will be in contact with Corporate soon. read more

With that said, I wish I had a better comment to say about Gentle Dental in Somerville. I'm very allergic to dust and I'm very sorry to say that the amount of dust everywhere was overwhelming. I know it seems to be such a small problem, but being difficult for me to breathe during and after being at the facility, makes it really hard to go back. I just think a health care place should be clean at all times no excuses. I sincerely hope that they start to pay attention to details, that makes a huge difference! read more

Dr. Fessler and his staff are fantastic. After receiving the run around from my previous dentist, and not feeling particularly cared for, I went to Gentle Dental for a second opinion. Everyone there was extremely kind and caring, which was really nice because I was in a lot of pain. They saw me immediately, and put me at ease. At each step, Dr. Fessler explained what they were doing and why, and gave me multiple treatment options. He didn't try to up-sell me on overly expensive procedures, and he actually listened to my concerns. Dr. Fessler is an excellent dentist and I highly recommend his services. read more

I neglected a dentist visit because I didn't have insurance and hated my dentist of the past few years. I finally made an appointment with the old dentist, I hated the entire interaction with him, and left with a temporary filling for a tooth that would possibly need a root canal. Then I did nothing for almost an entire year. The temp filling came out, and I knew this was a matter of depleting my savings for the sake of my health. I always viewed Gentle Dentle as a low-quality franchise, but this location is right near my house and advertises a $60 new patient special. (only point to note is the cleaning is scheduled separately, though I overheard someone was able to do them together if they were flexible enough with time) Standard exam and a treatment plan with the dentist, Dr. Ian Fessler. He made it clear that I had a few things needing to be done, but most could get put off for a while, other than the root canal. He was to the point, genuine, and I felt reassured about entering into a lengthy/costly process. I was secretly terrified of the root canal. Made a playlist on my iPod for it, and it was not a problem to use it during my procedure. The procedure lasted almost two hours - but sans the initial painkiller prick, was painfree. Completely pain free. Legit, I fell asleep twice it was so painless. I later went in for some basic cavity work, which Dr. Fessler also did quickly and painlessly. One of the dental assistants was a little annoying (couldn't understand anything he said) but other than that, I have nothing negative to say about this entire experience. The receptionist broke down the pricing structure and options - I shopped around online and the prices were pretty standard. I also had a billing problem (I later found out I had insurance, HOORAY!) and they made the re-billing easy to deal with. I honestly looked down on this chain as a whole before, and it was probably the best dental experience I could have hoped for. I don't know if this is common in all the locations, but this location more than met all of my needs. read more

This is the best dentist I've been to in a long time! I recently switched insurance plans and am glad I found these guys. At my last dentist, a well know Dental Group, doctors tried to convince me to get cosmetic procedures that I don't need. At Gentle Dental they make a point of informing me of all of my options and health needs - no pressure, just information. Just wrapped up with my appointment with Dr. Fessler and his team and I couldn't even wait until I got home to write a review. I called yesterday afternoon hoping for a last minute appointment to get a cleaning, my teeth whitened AND two cavities filled. The receptionist, Claribel was extremely accommodating and found me an appointment for the very next day (today!). She went as far as to help me figure out which way was the most beneficial to complete all of my needed dental work and use my insurance to the best of its abilities. I couldn't even believe how patient and thorough she was. Julie, the women who performed my cleaning was extremely patient and kind throughout my dental anxiety and really took her time to preform a thorough cleaning! I have NEVER had such a satisfying cleaning! Next I did my whitening and I was constantly moving and messing it up but Nancy was so helpful and continuously repositioned me with all the patience in the world! Plus my teeth came out super white! The dentist Dr. Fessler was very accommodating to my wants and needs and always was sure to ask how I would like to go about doing each filling and was always willing to help me however I would be most comfortable!
