I had two kids receiving regular dentistry and orthodontics here over the course of many years and all I can say is WOW, things have changed and not for the better. The practice was originally wonderful, and had such glowing reviews we paid up front for braces knowing the outcome would be terrific. What a mistake. Staff after the ownership change has been unreliable, and fully ineffective at supporting kids with dental anxiety (the whole reason we were at this practice). Our 2 outcomes ride the line of malpractice. Child 1; My first child's teeth were slow to fall out and required 13 extractions. Traumatizing to say the least. Every time they spoke to me, they had already told my weeping kid about a need for more extractions. Once in braces, they went ahead with a plan to leave gaps for implants instead of closing gaps as I had indicated with the original practice owner. This would have worked out in the end except they removed the braces before the teeth were fully straight making it impossible to obtain the implants they planned for, (without my agreement). In the end, I had to get kid 1 a bridge, requiring the grinding of 4 healthy teeth to restore the aesthetics for a minor. Devastating and now a chronic maintenance issue. Child 2; Brought here due to severe dental anxiety, this kid was constantly told there was a need for surgeries, or other invasive interventions, before letting me know and with no apparent awareness of the stress it caused. Multiple calls in to align our understanding did not seem to bend the curve. Once out of braces, kid 2 was seen by my adult dentist at another practice, who immediately saw a cyst on a tooth CPDA had rotated. That cyst, was apparently there for quite some time and was never mentioned by anyone at CPDA. The result, kid 2, the one who is terrified of dental work, is now undergoing surgery to remove the cyst and evaluate the resulting bone loss before receiving some kind of root canal, implant or bridge. Take a look at the dates of the good reviews. It speaks volumes. Do not bring your kids here. read more

We had an absolutely amazing experience! My 8 yo son was very anxious about needing a cavity filled, and I was worried about how the appointment would go. From the moment we called, the staff was incredibly kind and understanding. They got us in quickly, which was such a relief for both my son and me. Dr. Aziz is phenomenal--so gentle, patient, and calm. She took the time to explain everything in a way my son could understand and never rushed or pressured him. You can really tell she cares about her young patients and knows exactly how to help them feel safe and comfortable. This practice is truly a gem. Our family has benefitted from excellent care given by the Cambridge Pediatric Dental Associates over the course of the last three decades (!). First our daughter went to CPDA from a young age, received orthodontic treatment and dental care through her teens, and most recently, our grandson has received similar care for the past 14 years. He has actually enjoyed the process of frequent visits with Dr. Creech and others while getting his braces tightened, his teeth cleaned and eagerly awaiting that moment when the braces will come off. Practice is not suited for sensitive patients. Some of the older doctors showed impatience and little empathy. Practice is also not suited to help parents deal with unwillingness of minors whether due to fear of pain or OCD. Doctors aggressively prescribe teeth removal in the presence of minors. Assistants seem to be irritated to work with parents to enable smooth transitions esp. for fearful minors. In general, the team seems to be more focused on expense than comfort. In hinsight, should have sought a different provider at the first signs of indifference. read more

My son is 8 yo & has been going to CPDA for 6 or 7 years. We have always been impressed with the efficiency & friendliness of this office. It's about a 6 minute walk from Porter T or you can usually get street parking near by. The facility is clean & welcoming. This practice is very irresponsible when dealing with your kids' teeth cleaning. We had an extremely lousy experience here! The doctor and hygenist who were cleaning my kid's teeth were very impatient, and rude and ignored a 6-year-old's feelings... what a nightmare to a little kid! Not to mention, you can never trust their receptionist when dealing with an emergency situation. She requested all the information from you and promised to communicate with the dentist, and then the next minute, she totally forgot about the conversation ... how awful!! Run, run away from this practice. The only doctor who is trustworthy in this practice is Dr. Aziz. But who would want to go over so many hassles with the receptionist and hygenist in order to spend 5 minutes with one doctor?! read more

Our son recently had two teeth extracted, and Dr. Filstrup explained what to expect each step of the way and Lavon helped ensure that he was comfortable throughout the procedure. Afterward, he was totally fine at school and swim practice -- the experience was a total success from start to finish and beyond! We have been taking our children to Cambridge Pediatric Dental for over six years. Drs. Filstrup, Rao, McEachern and their team of dental assistants have been absolutely terrific with our children, and they have always taken the time to answer our questions and explain the issues that occasionally arise with our children's teeth. We see CPDA for our preschooler. They are prompt, warm, and above all know how to work well with kids of all ages and personalities. They adapt to your kid to help calm them, answer their questions, educate about proper dental hygiene, and work with patience and care on their teeth. We come from Quincy every 6 months because CPDA just can't be beat! My daughter loves brushing her teeth on her own to practice what she learned from Dr. Filmstrip last year. Today we had hygienist Kerri who was excellent! "Can you hear the tapping my tool makes on your teeth? It kind of sound like music" my daughter replies "that doesn't hurt at all." From warm and efficient front desk staff to the playroom, stickers and tattoos this place is great for little kids and can work with you all the way up to high school. We have been going to Cambridge Pediatric Dental Association for over 8 years, and each time they somehow still manage to outdo themselves. All the staff we've ever encountered -- from the office staff, to the hygienists, to the dentists -- always seem so above-and-beyond. However, after 8 years, it's clear to me that this isn't "above and beyond" for them -- rather, excellence is their normal mode. The employees are the perfect mix of welcoming and personable, professional and knowledgeable. Even when everyone is masked during the pandemic, the care and warmth shine through. They really know how to relate to kids and make visits a positive experience. They keep things upbeat, but also at ease -- with fun swag, but also calm, clear communication (both with the patients and parents). And, they no doubt know their stuff and are moving mountains to ensure that everyone is safe and well-cared for. I couldn't think of sending my kids to another dental office, especially these days. Dr. Filstrup is excellent - kind, patient, thorough and professional. She really has a gift and I'm so grateful for the care she provided to our daughter (6yo) when she had to have a tooth pulled. My daughter loves going to the dentist, but is absolutely terrified of shots. Dr. Filstrup called me ahead of time to discuss the care options and was collaborative with us in deciding the best plan for our daughter. On the day of the extraction, she was incredibly patient and explained everything to my daughter in such a calm manner throughout every step of the procedure. This really put my daughter at ease and she left feeling so proud of herself for being brave! We have also seen Dr. Aziz for regular cleanings and she is great, as are the hygienists and office staff. The office is also very clean, updated and tastefully decorated without being flashy. Aw, McEchy! Dr. McEachern was my dentist from tooth-birth and my orthodontist since adolescence, and I can't speak highly enough about him, his hygienists, and the administrators that run his office. He's charming, friendly, gentle, and his receptionist Barbara remembers mundane things she totally isn't obligated to remember. Now, my memory might be a little dated, but I know for a fact that they have EVERY color of braces elastic and EVERY flavor of fluoride, including (although my mom never let me get it) bubble freaking gum. Plus, barring any recent budget cuts, you walk out with a new toothbrush, a ring, a sticker, AND a balloon! Is there anything better than dentist swag to distract you from an otherwise untasty fluoride treatment? Not that I've found. Conveniently located in Porter Square (park in the Rite Aid lot across the street--I (well, my mom) was never towed in many, many years of parking there). Their only flaw is that they don't take me anymore. Psh. WhatEVER, "pediatric" dentistry. read more

The hygienist we saw was fantastic. She went out of her way to let us know why they were running a little late, introduced herself to my daughter, and was really warm and friendly. She explained everything to my daughter ahead of time and did a fantastic job of keeping her engaged and comfortable. I was worried because she normally doesn't like anybody touching her mouth, but it went perfectly fine. The dentist was also very nice, although we only saw her for a couple of minutes. HOWEVER: I wish I had known not to bring a stroller with me. I also have a five-month-old baby and had him in the stroller. But the office is on the second floor, up a steep, narrow, twisting flight of stairs, and there's nowhere to leave your stroller at the bottom. So I had to juggle baby, bag, stroller, and toddler both up and down the stairs. I'm pretty used to lugging stuff and small people around these days, and it was downright hairy. There's nothing on their website warning about this, so I figured I'd post a warning here and hopefully save somebody else the hassle. I guess they don't see any disabled patients, because there's absolutely no way somebody with mobility issues could get in there. If you have older/able kids, obviously this isn't an issue. This would have been five stars if I weren't so frazzled by the time I got out of there. read more

While I have never been here, (they specialize in dentistry for children), I had to say something. A friend of mine's child had developed a high fever after several unsuccessful trips to their local dentists. Because she's not a native English speaker, I started calling around to ferret out the name of the next dentist (perhaps a surgeon) he ought to visit. By the time I called Dr. McEachern's office it was 2 minutes to 5...and we all know what that usually means. The people there are truly committed to patient care; really very thoughtful, knowledgeable and helpful. I was given names and an idea of likely next courses of action. These all led to a more positive future outcome. Upon reflection, by the next day, I had honestly decided to start going to them..too bad they only take children. And how traumatic it must be to 'graduate' from there! read more

I've been bringing my daughter (now age 5) to see Dr. Aziz for the past six months or so for several "consultations" as well as eventually having 3 cavities treated. My daughter was traumatized from her first experience having a cavity treated (poorly, resulting in and abscess and n ending an extraction under full anesthesia) by another dentist. Dr. Aziz, her assistant Edna, and everyone at CPDA have been so warm, caring and patient with my daughter to help reduce her anxiety around dental care over time. They explain things to her and speak to her respectfully. The office and exam rooms are clean and modern and office staff is friendly and helpful. My kids have been patients at Cambridge Pediatric Dental Association for almost a decade now, and we've only had positive experiences there. Both kids were super anxious about any dental work, and the staff has always been very patient and flexible with them, and always answer their questions and explain things to them in age appropriate ways. My 12-year-old has had to have multiple teeth extracted, and since he has only had good experiences with the staff, he is never nervous about going any more. Something about Cambridge Pediatric Dental Associates just bothers the heck out of me. While they seem like nice people, their customer service and processes (even pre-COVID) are just so inflexible and frustrating. My guess is that local families have few other places to go for pediatric dental care, so this place has little incentive to get better. Maybe their actual dental care is good, but I can't entirely say for sure. My frustration with their operational side of things makes me question other things there too. read more

Dr. Filstrup is always professional, courteous and understanding and works amazingly well with my two youngest children, both of whom have high-functioning ASD. Having read some of the other reviews, I have to wonder who these people went to? I went to McEchearn, et. al. for some years when my kids were small and he was the only local that took their insurance. I found it awful every single time dealing with rude receptionists and piss poor treatment from the dentist who looks like a barbie. They may be slightly more professional than cool smiles but nothing worth continuing on with. The assistants who clean the teeth defended us against the rudeness of the long-time employee receptionist once, and I was amazed. They must have to deal with that beast every single day. I did not come to yelp to review them, I was looking for someone new again, but when I saw the favorable reviews, I thought somebody ought to warn the public. Patient beware. read more

If you are looking for a top-notch place where they are downright magical with kids, this is the way to go. We have Dr. Filstrup and she and her associates are just absolute geniuses with getting kids to relax and making it as fun as it can be - at every step they're talking about what they're doing, but making it really fun, like in kid terms - it's hard to explain but it's brilliant. And unlike what I've heard about other pediatric dental places, I was permitted (or even expected? I never asked...) to stay with my kids throughout, which has been great for both of my kids. Our checkups have always been a breeze and my son has now had to go in twice for lengthy work (2 fillings and a crown, each time - bad genetics and he sleeps with his mouth open) and it was absolutely a non-issue, he did great both times and he feels like a hero! We commute in from Arlington when we go and even with Mass Ave traffic, it's absolutely worth the drive. So nice to be pleasantly surprised when you're anticipating difficulty as a parent... absolutely worth going here for the peace of mind! Edit: I just read the other reviews out of curiosity. I have to say, I have never had a problem with the front desk staff. In fact, even though I was once extremely late for an appointment (totally underestimated Mass Ave traffic at 7:30 am) they remained friendly and reassuring. I would agree that it's not a good place to bring a stroller... but most places in Cambridge aren't, I would have left mine outside. Yes, be prepared to feed a meter... again, it's Cambridge. ??? I mean I'm from the midwest where we never EVER have to or want to deal with metered parking and I still think it's worth our trip. I yelp a lot and this place really should have 4-5 stars, 5 stars if rated solely on the skill and talent with kids, which is the most important thing. read more

I don't regret taking my daughter here as it was her first visit to the dentist. It was definitely a positive experience, and the dental hygenist was wonderful. We do not have dental insurance, and I knew it was going to be expensive. I was hoping they would give a discount, but they did not. Both the hygenist and the dentist charged to see her. The dentist looked at my daughter's teeth for five minutes and charged $78.00! So the final bill was $194.00. If you have dental insurance, I would recommend this place, but if you don't, just know that they do NOT accomodate to your financial situation. read more

I love this place. One of the things I like best about Dr. McEachern's is that not only have they been around forever (they may not be yelped much, but the word of mouth among an older set is fantastic) but they were, by report, the ones who took Mass Health patients when no one else would. There was a report here from someone disappointed that they would not give her a discount; she may have been expecting that based on their work in the past for low-income clients. I don't know what their present policies are (or what her income situation was/is) but for the very poor, Dr. McEachern's was an oasis in Cambridge & one of the few places that really mixed client bases. And, plus, they do a great job with kids! I highly recommend. My only quibble is that for younger kids they will only give you a morning appointment, and then sometimes school will not allow you to drop off late; thus you must take a whole day off work to take your kid to the dentist. AND you really have to book a year in advance here; it is the only way to get a good appointment time if you are a working person. read more
