Dr Elyson has been my dentist for over a decade. I used to hate going to the dentist but Dr Elyson is such a great dentist. I have had several root canals, and each time i fall asleep because Dr Elyson is so gentle, i just felt pressure, but zero pain. Then his staff is wonderful, and very welcoming. I have known Angela and Bandi the longest and they always made me feel at home, as did Kathy, and Melanie today. There are more names which i have forgotten, so forgive me for not mentioning you. My very elderly parents (90 and 83) also love to go see the staff and Dr Elyson. Just transferred over to Smiles LA! The staff is great. Family friendly to say the least! It was my son's first time getting a check up there. The staff greeted him from the door and convinced him he'd be alright to go without mommy. They played a child movie on the tv during his exam and gave him a toy! To get a 3 year old to be excited about his dental exam was impressive! And I appreciated this the most. Also, very fast and attentive with patients. My exam was fast and Dr. did a great assessment. I also needed a minor oral surgery that they got approved through my insurance in an impressive time frame. I'm able to get this work done before returning to work. I'm sure many people are like me, trying to find a dentist that you trust and can go to. I was looking to have 2 of my left wisdom tooth removed (one surgical and the other an extraction) I called and was immediately provided all the information about the procedure. From the pre-medication to the post recovery steps. We were also able to schedule an appointment that was convenient for me since I work full time. First time there and really enjoyed the experience! Dentists scare me so I went in very nervous. Everyone was very nice and helpful with calming me and my anxiety of a dentist, including Dr. Ramin. I really felt absolutely no pain. He was very attentive, careful, delicate and patient. He made me feel very comfortable and I think that is very hard to find. He wasn't even supposed to do any work but was able to squeeze me in last minute to take care of some cavities. I'm sure he was working into his lunch, which I really appreciated. He was quick and thorough. Ie was always checking to see how I was doing and that I wasn't experiencing any pain. Im a first time new patient. I called different dental offices because I was on a budget and I know I had some short of Co pay and wanted to make sure I stayed on budget. Well after fighting Cancer I was so afraid to hit the dentist. I was refered to Smiles. LA by my cousin. Well got my first appointment with a tooth ache. I was a nervous wreck when I met the dentist explain to the doctor what I had been through and he told me not to worry he would do his best to not hurt me just relax and lete take care of you. Alright well he pulled the tooth with much care and fixed it. We proceeded with speaking about taking care of all my teeth. So the process has begun. Beyond excellent service from the time you check in to the time you check out. I stopped in for an emergency. I cracked my rear right side upper molar eating a pb&j sandwich .. yeah anyway, so Angela greets me, gets the x rays done (stat), & I see Dr. Elyson... advised I need a crown. He was nice professional and put me at ease with all my dental concerns. He really made me feel very comfortable and explained in detail the treatment that he recommended. I've been having mixed feelings about doing this review but since I came here solely based on the Yelp reviews, I decided to write about my experience at Smiles LA. This is my honest review based on my experience and my intentions are not to criticize. First off, I would like to give Dr. Assili 5 stars and thank him for doing the amazing job he did on my fillings. He put me at ease and answered all my questions/concerns. He was really great! If he had a separate Yelp account, I would gladly give him the recognition he deserves. Oh and another 5 stars for office cleanliness and convenient location. Okay, so down to the nitty gritty. Here are the reasons why I was less than a satisfied customer: 1. When I arrived at my first appointment, the receptionist brought to my attention that she had been calling me to confirm my appointment. I told her that I have horrible reception and that sometimes my phone doesn't even ring. In a rude tone, she replies "Yeah, but that's why we left you a voicemail so you could call us back. And we also sent you a text message reminder. If you hadn't showed up, your slot could have been given to another patient". Totally understandable, but seriously don't scold your patients for not calling back. I'm really good with keeping my appointments and if I did have to cancel, I'm not inconsiderate, I would have notified them. 2. After the X-rays and check up with Dr. Assili, I was sent to a room to discuss the fees of my treatment plan. Let me tell you, I don't have perfect teeth and I knew I needed a lot of work done. It was overwhelming to hear how much it would cost me (even with insurance) but they suggested I could do a little bit of work at a time so the costs didn't seem too excessive. Okay, I could do that. We set an appointment for some fillings that I needed done. When I arrived the following week, I told the receptionist that I only wanted the front tooth filling done and I pointed to it. Well it wasn't until the Dr. numbed me that I realized he had done the wrong side. I told the dental assistant about it and she looked at the paperwork filled out by the receptionist and she had said that the receptionist had put the wrong information. I told her that I wanted to do the other side and the dental assistant told me "Are you sure? That one looks like its going to be a root canal, and if the Dr. starts the filling and notices that you need a root canal, we are going to have to perform it and you will not be able to leave until its done. Root canals also cost about $400+". I was shocked and I told her that in the treatment plan there was no mention of a root canal. That's when I told her if I could speak to the Dr. and I asked him what the probability was of needing a root canal. Guess what he said? "There's about a 99% chance, that you will NOT need a root canal". I was relieved but at the same time pissed off that the dental assistant scared me for nothing! He did the fillings and they looked great. 3. I called them more than a month ago to follow up on getting my treatment plan faxed or mailed to me, in which the receptionist replied that they had sent it out already. As of today, April 13th (Mamba Day), I have not received it and I don't think they ever sent it out. Its sad because I really liked Dr. Assili but I have no plans on returning due to the unprofessional staff. A helpful tip to the staff and anyone working in the medical or customer service field: Treat every patient or client as if they are a sibling, relative, or loved one. read more
