I returned a couple of firearms to S&W for warranty/recall work (Response 9MM and a 686-no-dash) I sent all the requested information, 4 copies + emailed them the details. They returned one firearm before the other, and shipped it to the wrong address. FedEx aren't any help or support in getting the package re-routed or held for my pickup, and S&W aren't able to reached for support. I've emailed directly, sent contact through their website, and have been calling almost non-stop for the past hour (I just get re-looped through their automated answering bot; can't get to a human being) Hopefully my firearm(s) will show up somewhere I can recover them, or else I'll have to resort to reporting them as lost/stolen property to LE & S&W are then wholly responsible for whatever happens to or with them. Doubt I'll see any sort of compensation by S&W for 2 days of lost labor, and all the frustration and headache they've now caused me. Not to mention, the value of the firearm(s). I contacted customer service numerous times and got the run around until finally after 4 months I was told tough luck. I have been a Smith & Wesson customer for eight years after trading up from a Kel-Tec PF9 that I just didn't like shooting. I own a number of S&W firearms that are used for every day carry and home defense and general sport. Going back to the Model 686 L-Frame revolver that a friend lent me when I got back to the United States from my time overseas. That thing is a dang cannon but it operated supremely and even in competition shooting. I won best in class at an event in Spartanburg with it and it was returned from the loan after it was professionally cleaned by the Hyatt Gun Shop https://www.yelp.com/biz/hyatt-gun-shop-charlotte-2. Hyatt is my regular. I've never had a serious problem with any of my guns. Perhaps the only complaint is that the Bodyguard model (a .380 caliber with an integrated laser) doesn't always fire the primer. Some ammunition seems to be a little "harder" than others. I'm sure that's not a problem with the striker, it's just the randomness of some ammunition. In a box of 50 Winchester "white box", maybe 4 or 5 won't fire. A problem that I don't have with other brands. Firearms are like cars. They come in different styles and models. Some people like Glocks and some like Sig Sauers. For my hand shape and size, the Smith & Wesson design fits perfectly. I'm a customer for life. As for Second Amendment rights, I'm pleased to see that American Outdoor Brands Corporation, the parent company of Smith & Wesson, is closing down their New England warehouse operation. They are moving to a more gun-friendly state and while I'm disappointed that it's not my own North Carolina, I'm glad that they have decided to at least get out of "The Cradle of Liberty" of Massachusetts. Here's how this goes, I bought a Shield Plus model because it was my choice, I noticed that it had a rebate which had nothing to do with why I bought the gun. Filled out the rebate form 4 times only getting an error message over and over. Emailed customer service which apparently is a joke, sent a copy of everything by mail, finally got a guy on Chat and was told that my serial number was one that didn't qualify for a rebate. $50 isn't going to make or break me but why advertise a summer rebate listing the Shield Plus when it is only a small cross section of that model to qualify...VERY DECEPTIVE ADVERTSING OVERALL. I was a life long Smith & Wesson fan. For over 35 years i have put this company before any other firearms company but my love affair has come to an end and it was over within a blink of an eye because of a 125 dollar lower that was improperly inspected before shipping out. I was doing a build on a rifle and was minutes away from completing. Upon installation of the rear take down, I installed the detent pen, spring, and tightened the castle. I checked functionality, it slid out perfectly and then would not slide back in. The pin would not budge. I found that there was a aluminum waist in place of my detent pen. I removed all pressure from the scrap aluminum inside the hole but it was completely jammed. To make a long story short. My lower was damaged upon removal of the aluminum and now my rear take down pin has to be in or out. I contacted costumer service about the issue i had. Costumer service couldn't help get the issue resolved so i asked to speak to a manager. I explained to them the issue i had. I even took photos of the issue. Customer service didn't want to see the photos or even try to help me the best that they could do was have me send the part in and they would do an investigation on it and couldn't promise that I would get it back. I had photos and he didn't want to see them. I asked for his email just so I can send them to him just incase he was slightly curious and wanted to see them. I sent the email and never heard anything back and it's been 4 months. Over 35 years of dedication and was ended over a 125 dollar part that probably cost them 5 bucks to make. In my opinion S&W is lacking Quality Control and Customer Service but then again this is what makes a company great. Pictures are included in this post. I have built a ton of firearms and this was my first using an S&W and last time. Is this my fault? I'll take part of the blame for not checking if this tiny hole was completely clearing of debris. So I bought a Model 929 from S&W . The nightmare just started. I picked it up cleaned it and tried to fire it. The case head of the 9 mm rounds were dragging on the the back of the frame, bad news. Off to the gun smith he found a burr on the hole for the firing pin. Oh goody,(no not really). Now the firearm works for 5 to 6 shots before jamming in the internals the hand will not rotate the cylinder before it locks up. Really poor QC there boys. It's now on its way back to the factory. This allegedly comes from the custom shop. I think they that are in a race to the bottom, it's not custom that's for sure. Sorry Jerry its junk. read more

Personally, I've never had problems with buying, shipping, or rebates of any of my guns. And when I'm out shooting I get compliments on both the looks, quality, and durability. I purchased a S&W M&P9 Shield Plus with 4" barrel in July 2021. The last time I fired it, it jammed 3 times out of 150 rounds. (Winchester USA Ready, 9mm, 115 grain, Flat Nose FMJ, Select Grade) After sending it back for evaluation, I learned that it would take 6 - 8 weeks! I demanded its immediate return on October 19--more than one month ago. I have still not received my weapon. I have been told that my "firearm will be shipped shortly." I've heard that before. So, a weapon that jams ~2% of the time. The lousiest service I have ever witnessed. I'm seeing other reviews re lousy service. Buyer beware. read more

I feel I need to share my horrible experience with Smith & Wesson recently. After finally getting to fire my Bodyguard 380 by joining a range I immediately experienced firing issues. Failing to fire off a round (most likely do to light primer striking), jamming and failing to lock open on last round. I spoke to them and sent it in for repair. After 3 times of receiving my firearm back saying it was repaired and tested it was not fixed at all. Every time it was the same. After wasting expensive ammunition and spending months without my firearm the fourth time I returned it I received an E-mail saying the gun had been modified and the warranty was Voided. It was void now but not the other 3 times they failed to fix it. Now I own a very expensive S&W paperweight. read more

I read Henry P's review. There must be more to the story. My problem was presented to S&W as a 1.75" revo placing large groups at 7 yards with Magnum loads. I expected them to tell me to learn how to shoot better. I am 100% confident that I can group shots at that distance no matter the barrel, sights, recoil, noise, etc. Immediately received an invitation to ship the gun back. They replaced the yoke and re-aligned the barrel, plus they presented a photo of a 3 shot group at 10 yards with magnum loads. Much better! No charge. No hesitation. Two-week turnaround. Smith & Wesson has some of the worst customer service anywhere. I've called them 2-3 times a day, everyday for the past week. Each time I am put on hold. I usually hang up after 30 minutes, as I have work to do. But I did wait for an hour a couple times before hanging up. If I cannot get through to customer service, especially when I have an issue, I will no longer do business with them. Whereas I had this same issue with Customer Service a couple years ago, and have given it another solid try for a week now, I cannot in good faith recommend Smith & Wesson to anyone. If you're looking to buy a firearm, spend your well-earned money on a company that cares about their customers. I'm even going to start replacing my S&W handcuffs with Peerless. Until they get their act together they will not get my business, nor should they get yours. read more

The worst handling of any defect in a firearm that I have ever seen! I purchased my brand new M&P 2.0 40CAL compact in early February of 2022. Once I got the pistol home I briefly cleaned the pistol and then took it to the range the following weekend. I was happy with the performance it had and went home to thoroughly clean the gun. This is where my opinion of smith went downhill rapidly. I found a defect inside the barrel on the rifling land that I had not noticed before. I first just thought it was dirt but it would not clean out. Once I got the inside of the barrel thoroughly clean I realized that it had pitting halfway down the barrel. I have attached the photo's that I took with a cell phone to show what damage that I saw. I have zoomed in one photo to show more detail. I wasn't to concerned being that I thought they were a reputable company and defects happen, nothing to be upset about. However, I was extremely wrong. Upon e-mailing smith&wesson I received a shipping label to ship the gun back to them for inspection. I mailed the gun Fed-Ex on February 15th back to smith. I waited for about a week or so and called them just to see what they thought about the barrel and to make sure that it had arrived properly. I was told by customer service that they did not have any direct contact with the gun shop and I would have to wait until I either heard from them or I received my gun back. I understood that even though I thought it was strange that they couldn't give me any idea of where the gun was in the warranty process, but hey, they told me they stood behind their product so I took them at their word. I called a second time a week or so afterward just curious for updates and was greeted with the same offer of they could not tell me anything about my firearm and to wait for an e-mail that would let me know when it had been shipped. When I finally got my gun back it was the 21st of March. I opened the package to discover that they had not replaced the damaged barrel and had only a paper thar said no repairs required. I called back to smith the same day and talked with a helpful gentleman in customer service whom I emailed pictures of the barrel to. He said that the barrel was un-acceptable and to send it back to smith for the 2nd time. He went as far as saying that he had shown them to his supervisor and he as well said they will replace it. I sent the gun back thru the gun store I purchased it from the same day. After waiting until April 14th of 2022 I once again received my gun back from smith for the 2nd time to find IT WAS STILL THE SAME BARREL AS BEFORE. I gave up on smith honoring their supposed warranty and purchased a new barrel on-line, not from smith. I called and talked to customer service again today the 19th of April to the same gentleman that I had been dealing with. He informed me that the gun shop determined that my barrel had an acceptable level of damage to pass smith&wesson's quality control for brand new guns! I could not believe what I heard. So the moral to my story is, I had an extremely high opinion of this company up until this point. This is not the only smith that I own but was the first time I tried out there make believe warranty. I spent my hard earned money for a brand new gun and got a damaged gun and was left holding the bag at the end of the day. I will never waste my hard earned money again on a company that is willing to cheat their own customer's out of a quality they used to produce. It is the end to any legacy that this company ever had. Now, to be fair and totally transparent, the same gentleman in customer service who told me to send the gun in the second time suggested that I send it in a third time and he would try see that the barrel was replaced. I declined to do so mainly because I heard this promise before when I sent it back on the 21st of March, and once again smith did nothing for the manufacturing error they created. Smith and wesson has been in possession of my firearm more than I have since the purchase and the only thing they have accomplished is I sent them a clean firearm, they shot it, and sent it back dirty with no effort made to fix a barrel with defects that they produced. read more

Trying to determine what next to do with my S & W M&P .22. Just got it back from the 3rd time it went to S & W for troubleshooting. Keeps jamming. It's clean. I've tried numerous brands of ammo. After receiving it on Friday, I took it to the range yesterday with CCI small game and Winchester ammo. The note I got with the gun from S & W stated it had "passed" and that someone had fired 5 clips of ammo. Right off the bat at the range, it was jamming. This made me wonder about the 5 clips S & W shot - it never said there were no jams. Is there such a thing as an acceptable number of jams per however many rounds shot?? Am I expecting "too much" (!) from a gun? I'm so disgusted with the brushoff by S & W that I'm not sure about sending it back a fourth time. Would the gunsmith there give this gun to his wife, mother, sister? Is it too much to feel confident this gun is going to actually shoot? As a side note, my husband's S & W M&P compact yesterday shot each and every bullet that jammed in my gun. I think I wound up with a lemon and will most likely go for a Ruger if anyone has stock at this point. How sad. read more

I had an m&p 9c that shot low for me. It could have been me or the the site as I'm new to shooting handguns. I contacted Smith and Wesson and they offered and sent me a new front site and told me to keep the old one free of charge. Fifteen minutes with a piece of wood and a hammer I had the new sites on.
