Quiet kids sitting outside to one side and we saw a staff member giving a doggie treat at the car to the right of us. The movie volume was great. Good view of the screen. It is rare that I give 2 star rating, but I really have no choice here. While the staff are friendly, the grounds are in very poor condition. The lots are covered in pot holes and broken up tar. You are on your own in terms of navigating through the lots. There are no arrows or lines directing you. We were situated at Screen 1. Screen 1 had a noticeable hole in the lower right part of the screen. The "Snack Shack" was worn down and not very clean. It was very warm inside and reeked of dirty frying oil. I went there years ago when it was in much better condition, but sadly it has been let go. It's sad since the Drive In Movies are a great family experience and they are difficult to find now these days. I would urge the owners to invest more in their business. They may actually turn a profit by attracting more moviegoers. read more

Do. Not. Go. This drive-in is AWFUL. From the moment you drive in, right off a multilane state highway (the type where 18yo kids drive up and down racing), you know the noise pollution will be bad. Then you have to drive at a tilt and try to figure out which of the 3 crooked hill screens all facing each other is yours, off-roading over apocalyptic concrete to find a reasonable view/angle. The kids working try to tell you where to park -- there were 4 other cars in the back row at our screen, and he told us to park next to them. Ummm, why should early arrivers get the worst spot? We abided at first, but we were at such an angle left-to-right, we moved more to the left, where the incline of the drive-in mountain still existed, but at least the slope was straighter up-and-down. (tbh, my back still hurts from the incline our car was at.) The bathroom toilets and floors are literally covered in feces. You could hear the audio from both other movies loud and clear during your movie. They don't show anything on-screen before the movie starts so you can make sure you have the station tuned in right, so if you have an old-school radio, good luck finding the station in the first 5 minutes of dialogue. There are no clear roads, so leaving in the dark weaving between people parked EVERYWHERE, going up and down the most awkward cement, is honestly very scary. This place was such a dump. And for them to charge $33 per car for the garbage amenities is absolutely WILD! Do yourself a favor and avoid. read more

It's funny how all of you that bring your kids to this once outdoor porno drive in. Disgusting North Smithfield! They actually had outdoor porn playing at night at a drive in. This place brings on pure nostalgia and will always be a fun and exciting experience. My husband and I came a few weeks back to watch The Santa Clause, another classic, and left content and smiling. The drive-in was easy and affordable and we had free range on choosing our parking spot. We ate dinner in our car while watching two movies back to back! My fiancé has been coming to this drive in since she was little and she decided to show me for the first time and I can't even begin to explain what a disappointment this was. Went to see inside out 2 tonight and arrived two hours early so we could get the best seats... as we drove in we were told if we were putting our trunk up we could not park in the first two rows. We followed these rules and picked our spot. Ten minutes before the movie started multiple suvs parked in the first and second row with their trunks up and blocking our view. And the car in front of us had their high beams in our eyes until our neighbours asked them to turn it off because the staff wouldn't. We couldn't see the bottom half of the screen because people who showed up ten minutes early got to break the rules. I went to the guy who was directing traffic, mind you the whole staff was kids so it's not like I could have escalated to a "manager", the kid assured me that they would do a walk through before the movie started to make the suvs move to the back rows. I watched the kid do the walkthrough and not say a word to any of the suvs with their trunks up. I literally could not see the whole time. So now that I know your business doesn't enforce the rules, next time I will just park my jeep front row with the trunk up. read more

My family and I were super excited to come here because of being stuck in quarantine for so long, but that was cut short after a few minutes of being here! First, the road is terrible. There is pot holes everywhere, but that's not a dealbreaker. Second, our broadcast was interrupted not once, twice, but MULTIPLE times! Out of an hour and a half movie we were able to hear about 25 minutes of the actual movie! Unbelievable. For majority of the movie we heard a local radio broadcast. When my family and I brought it up to a worker at the drive in she said "That happens sometimes, there's nothing we can do about that. It could be where your car is located." Which confused me because if your customers are complaining about their broadcast being interrupted and not being able to hear the movie.. maybe just maybe they'd try to refrain from parking cars near that area. I am typing this as we are parked and there are so many cars leaving and the second movie hasn't even begun! Very upsetting to pay for something, travel pretty far (we're from MA), and not be able to enjoy our experience. I definitely will not be coming here again. read more

I was super psyched when planning our trip to RI, that we would come here one night, and we decided to experience our first drive in on day 1 of our mini vacation! We mapped it out, since we were staying in Chepachet, RI we ate dinner at the Beef Barn, and headed over for the 8:30 showtime. Despite what people mentioned, they did have new movies playing, and offer free double features (although my car couldn't even make it through the first movie) In driving from N. Smithfield (where the Beef Barn is located) to the movies, google maps showed a 7 minute arrival time. Somehow it took us totally out of the way, behind houses and a dead end. I am not sure how that happened as we used the yelp app to guide us but needless to say, kind pedestrians guided us and we made it with a few minutes to spare. I was uncertain as to how these drive in movies work... I get it you keep your radio on but I don't know how the battery doesn't die. I asked the guy who took our $27 and he just said we have a battery jumper if needed. I realized that nowadays everyone sits outside of the car, in lawn chairs with a portable radio. Who knew. Anyway you drive to your screen and pick and spot and park, it is kind of a free for all, but on a Wednesday night, there are maybe like 25 cars per movie so choices are endless. Tune your radio to the proper channel and shut your car motor off. The concession stand is neat and clean but i was hoping to see an overflowing popcorn machine. They had pre-filled popcorn tubs which was not as appealing, but we got it anyway (my husband barely ate his stating he thought it tasted stale). The display for the rest of the items for sale was pretty minimal. Although I had a great time, and the young kids working there were very nice, I am giving this rating for a few reasons. My new car (only 9 months old) shut off about 8 times during the movie. We had to restart it that many times which was probably bothersome to the other patrons. This was one concern of mine that was not addressed when I asked or tried going to the website to see what people normally do. As some mentioned in their reviews, even though we were in the car the whole time, I did get a few bug bites just from opening the window a few times. I can not even imagine how buggy it must be sitting out there in that field. This is a parking lot on a hill. It's a free for all in terms of cars driving everywhere, it's too dark to see the poorly paved road when you're walking to the restroom during a movie. And you can see every movie from every vantage point. So if you don't want your kids to see a nude or slasher scene on another screen, be sure you know the content of the other movies no matter what you plan to see. read more

Unbelievably bad experience. The Barbie movie was so blurry, yet I could turn & clearly see on Screen 2 &3. The car in front of us didn't shut front lights off so had to take lawn chairs and sit away from my vehicle near someone else's in order to hear movie. Then during 2nd movie above said cars battery died, then the other car in front of us locks their keys in car so in middle of 2nd movie, fire trucks, police show up with headlights 1 foot from our carshining into it-what an awful experience. So in front of us a big distraction- ruining this 2nd movie- so happy I waited 20 min to enter with prepaid tickets for this experience. read more

RUSTIC DRIVE IN DATE NIGHT NIGHTMARE! Very Disappointed in the Staff's reluctance to address my issue of having a Truck with camper shell as well as a SUV arrive moments before the movie was to start and both were allowed to arrogantly prop open their rear hatch, unload the kids to the rooftop and block our view of the screen. Mind you when you enter you are instructed by 2 employees that cars and sedans are the only vehicles allowed in the first 3 rows. (Reason being Trucks and SUV will block the view of those parked behind them) So arriving 2 HOURS EARLY and getting a GREAT SPOT in the 3rd row middle of the isle was ALL FOR NOT because after complaining to the 2 employees directing customers as to where to Park, the Manager at the Snack Bar and the Ticket Sales booth, I WAS TOLD "SORRY BUT WE ARE UNDER STAFFED" and there's NOTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT THOSE THAT CHOOSE TO BREAK THE RULES! Rustic it is but that's its charm! Where else can you pile in a car load of family & friends for $20 and watch a double feature of two first run movies? This last outing we watched the new Star Trek (2nd viewing for me) & the new Transformers (which I mostly slept thru). We brought our lawn chairs but forgot the sleeping bags - brrr on the 4th of July. Other highlights were watching two young couples playing coed football before the movie, and fireworks from the nearby Lincoln Woods (or from that direction anyway) were awesome to see in the background. The place slowly filled up and was totally packed by sundown, the parking staff is pretty efficient making sure the rules are obeyed - they asked my politely to move back one row because I was in an SUV, the kid was actually pretty funny about it. They have three screens installed on the side of a hill, so the lot is a little crazy to figure out exactly were to park. The good thing is you can see all three screens no matter where you park by moving your chairs a bit, so really you have a choice of six movies during the course of the evening. Bring a 2nd AM / FM radio if you plan to do that, some might want to watch one screen, while the others use the car radio for the primary movie. You are not allowed to move your car to another screen however - "No Screen Changing". The snackbar is nothing to write home about but I get my drinks there to support the place additionally because I hate to see one of the last drive-ins close down. The hamburgers are nasty, you can't go wrong with the pre packaged ice cream, we do bring out own munchies. Don't forget chairs, sleeping bags or blankets, bug spray, flashlight, munchies, window cleaner & paper towels for your windshield. For me living south of Boston I find this a lot easier to get to than the Mendon Drive-in (***** stars), just head down I-95 to I-295 and get off @ RT146. As you get off I-295 merge left right onto 146, work your way to the left lane and do a U turn at Sayles Hill Road about a half mile down the road. Once you have turned around the Rustic is about 500' on the right. It's a four because the Mendon is the five in the area because of a better snackbar & the Mendon has a website while the Rustic does NOT! Great for kids! read more

I love love love the drive in experience. Seeing as a I work in the movie theater industry I want something more then the cookie cutter mega multiplex, and Rustic hits the spot. I've been coming here since I was a child and it's the same as ever. Beware you need treed on your tires in some spots (I recently watched a few cars tires skid trying to make it up small bumpy hills to catch the prime parking spot). The only thing that gets me is the lack of employees walking around... it would be nice to have them telling people to turn off their interior lights or even their headlights. Also it can be some what un-family friendly... with the teenagers necking....and what not... It would also be nice to have smoke free areas, sitting with your kids or smoke free family and have a crew of Marlboro cowboys behind you smoking it up the whole time can put a damper on your movie going experience. read more

Something everyone must do at some point. For $25 a carload, it's a worthwhile trip to load up a few people. The drive in is dog friendly. Not bad to see two films for at least 2 people. It turns out to be about $6/ each. We have been about once a year. We made it through both movies the first time, but the second time, we left after the first film ended. It's a nice annual excursion, especially if you live in the RI/Worcester area. read more

The men's room is a mess and it seems that the little tykes may have to go in their pants for sanitary reasons. Two stalls and one actually has a seat. That would not be the one with TP for your bunghole. The one on the left is the one that works. Now with that crap out of the way, pretty thematic so far, it's 3 screens at 20 dollars a car for two recent movies. And the snack bar has fresh popcorn, hot dogs, chicken tenders and the like. Pretty good theater food if you can get over the snack bar being attached to the aforementioned Poopsicle stand. It draws a good crowd so go early for a good spot. Watch out for the open hatch crowd. They like to strike at showtime. Usually you can find a staff member to ask them to tie the hatch down or move. They even provided the rope for one idiot in front of us. Nice move. Pretty good evening for 20 bucks. Got to see "The Dark Knight" and "Journey to the Center of the Earth". Sadly the second movie wasn't the concert film I expected. Don't Stop Believing. read more

Great place to catch a movie on a summer night. Things to note: bring bug spray, get there early enough to setup, and making sure your vehicle can handle rough terrain. I can't speak much for the snack bar as I did not partake. The only thing keeping me from rating this higher is the deplorable conditions of the asphalt. I would love to see this place keep on going for years to come, but if they let the road deteriorate any further it won't last long. I'm sure fellow Rhode Islanders would chip in if they setup a donation bucket outside the restrooms for repaving the place. Better yet, setup a GoFundMe page with a link on their Facebook to "Repave the Rustic Drive-In." Many other reviewers have mentioned what I'm about to mention, but I'll say it again. The Rustic IS very rustic, as in the pavement must have been around since the late 1980's. I have a non tweaked VW golf and I almost bottomed out at one point, which almost never happens. If I had lowered it, I'd be screwed. I actually may not come back in my car because of it. The pavement/pattern of the lot is so BAD. I went during the first film to get some snacks and I wish I had a flashlight because the pavement was so bad I was afraid of twisting an ankle. With prices going up $5 since the last time I was here a few years ago you'd think they can afford to pave. I also realize though that basically you're getting two films for the price of one if you come in with only one friend ($25/2=about the price of one ticket at Showcase) but at the risk of bottoming out I'm not so sure I will want to come back. The snack bar is nothing to write home about and my fried dough was pre cooked and then just ran through a toaster. What the heck--I paid $5 for this I want it freshly fried! My friend bought mozzarella sticks and they were cold and hard. Bring your own food. As this is one of the last drive ins in the area I'm really optimistic that they will pave between end of the season and next, but who knows. Also, the two films we watched (the other girl and neighbors) were well suited for a double feature and I do think they try to make films on the double feature fit together. They probably don't let you move around between films because the pavement is so bad and they start/stop times are staggered. We could easily see screen 3 from row 3 of stage 2 though, so if you insist on mixing it up, you should be able to. Be careful getting out of the Rustic, as there is no easily labeled way to get out. They show double features and it's only $20/car. Where else are you going to find those prices for first-run films? You can bring your own food as well. Most everyone has spoken great things about the Rustic Drive-In. It's "rustic" and a little rough around the edges, but that's what I like about it. I've been coming here for years since I was in high school. Their screen/terrain layout has always been a bit awkward, but I'm not sure how they could even "fix" that. Well it certainly is Rustic. Part of the charm of Rustic is that it hasn't changed much probably in the 40-50 years it has been there. However this is why it only gets 4 and not 5 stars. I understand that to get movies does cost the movie theater money. But I am surprised that it appears they really haven't invested in the theater itself. That being said it is an interesting place to watch a movie. I see the appeal of the drive-in. Private but still comfortable. I honestly think the lawn chair and sitting out is slightly overrated, especially when you see the kind of clientele goes to the Rustic. Definitely a dump and probably hasn't had much of any maintenance since about 1985, but it's all about the experience. $20 per car - so if you go with 2 or more people it's at least the same price as going to a regular movie. Get there early as the more popular movies sell out on nice nights. A hint: if one of the screens is sold out, you can't buy a ticket for it, but you can very easily drive to it anyway because it's pretty much wide open. I was actually shocked at how many people bring lawn chairs and sit outside - probably 2 out of 3 cars sit outside rather than in the car. If you're looking for a neat experience give Rustic a try! That being said, they're the last drive-in in Rhode Island, and an iconic piece of history. We usually go to the Drive In once a year. Last night we saw "Jaws" and "Crawl." This place is big and has 3 or 4 screens. Movie goers can be inconsiderate though. The person in front of us had their lights on and their trunk open, blocking part of our view and the person next to us didn't turn their engine off so it was pretty loud. Maybe a reminder about these things at the ticket booth would help make it a more enjoyable experience. read more

My biggest gripe with this place is that they don't let you switch screens between movies. With 3 screens to choose from each playing 2 movies, it's hard to find a screen playing 2 movies that I want to watch. At other drive-ins I would usually just mix-n-match, moving to another screen after watching the first movie, for maximum viewing satisfaction. Oh well. The snack shack is pretty great, they have the usual assortment of hotdogs, cheeseburgers, pizza, nachos, chicken fingers etc. as well as normal movie foods (popcorn, candy). They also have jumper cables in case your battery gives out, and bugspray towelettes (weird, right?) so they have the practical side covered too. Prices aren't as good as other drive-ins I've been to but still below normal movie concession prices. If it's a nice weekend in the middle of summer, I'd recommend getting there half an hour before sunset to make sure you get a spot with an uninterrupted view of the screen. read more

With the name "Rustic" I figured it would be a little rough around the edges. To be honest the novelty of it being the last drive-in standing in Rhode Island has brought on a sense of excitement upon entering. We came around 7:10pm to grab a good spot. To say the roads are a "little bumpy" is an understatement. I felt like I was driving up a rugged mountain in my little hatchback. The pavement had many potholes, cracks and is built on an awkward slope. We waited for two hours for the start of the first featured movie. I felt like an ansty child waiting for the fireworks. Surrounded by a crowd of unfamiliar faces, hunting for a good viewing spot, packing snacks and braving the heat/bugs on a lawn chair. An experience that makes it worthwhile once that blank white screen lights up. The theatre opens up at 7pm and the movie starts at dusk. During summertime nightfall is uaually around 9:00pm-9:45pm. With two movies, you generally expect to get out late-- around 12midnight or later. With two movies and $25 per car, you can't beat that! I just wish they were open all year round...or that during the fall-winter months they get the roads fixed. read more

Cool little throw back spot. There aren't many drive-ins around any more, and this is my driest experience with one. The cost was 27 dollars per car and you get a double feature. Ours was The Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Mission Impossible. We only stayed for The Ant-Man and Wasp. This was as authentic a drive-in experience you will get. 3 huge screen that look surprisingly good for a drive in. The sound was crisp and clean through the car radio. The refreshment stand has all the basics like popcorn, soda and even coffee. (If you go, please support the refreshment stand. This is a main way they make money, and I want to see this great tradition keep going). You can bring a radio with lawn chairs to sit out and enjoy the movie (we suggest this.) The negative was: The address for this place, when you put it in your gps it takes you to the wrong locations. We were stuck in the backstreets by houses for a bit before some nice people told us where to go. The second is. your car will DIE! They have jumper cables for you, since you have to leave your radio on turned to a station to hear the movie. read more
