"Just Because Someone Is On TV, Doesn't Make Them A Star"…read more The reason I write this review is to share my experiences with Luther Auctions In North Saint Paul. If you want to have a terrible auction experience, try consigning with Tracy Luther Auctions, they are rude and act like snobs, and what ever you have is garbage. I don't care if it's the Holy Grail, It's garbage. They won't want to consign it "because it won't do well there", they would say. I guess they are doing so well that they can turn away business, "Or they don't want to junk the place up". I once brought in a pair of crystal lamps and told them I understand all the risks, that if it don't sell for more then $20 I would get nothing, and was turned away, so I sold it at another auction for $225, It's just weird to me for a business to turn down money, but they are stuck in there little bubble. If you can somehow break down the wall and consign with them, they will get you good prices, I once seen a box of yarn sell there for $35 that someone consigned, but my stuff is not good enough. If your a buyer there, I hope you don't mind a sore back side. After the sales tax and the buyers premium it comes out to be 22%, So if you win a item for $100, you would have to pay $122. The items here usually sell for top dollar, but every once in a while, if you do your due diligence and show patience, you can make a nice score. I once picked up a biscuit tin for $42 and sold it online for $500. But it's OK. if you don't mind a speed auction and bad jokes, they have some good stuff, if you can keep up with it. Also find out what "times the money" means, It could save you some problems. Arrive early and inspect the items, they are usually flawed, and sold under the pretense "sold as is".

Best auctioneer in Midwest, best auctioneer in the USA…read more We have bought a lot of material at this auction house for years in the past, when in the St Paul, MN area. (web site is www.lutherauctions.com) They are truly selective with what quality material they sell. You won't find total junk here. What differentiates Tracy Luther (the owner) from all other auctions is that he is way ahead of his time in merging 'entertainment' with 'auctions'. Yes, Tracy Luther is a true entertainer, and a knowledgeable one, and he puts up a great show each time. Buying with him is fun that way, and I bet that sellers of estates achieve much higher prices with him, because buyers there are prepared to pay for the high entertainment value he adds to his auctions. What is also enjoyable is how well organized his auctions 'flow', without any significant hitch and they are very fast. Tracy Luther is even successful with his staff, as I experienced when I coincidentally met someone online who had worked for him for years and still sang his praise extensively. Yes, his own people love working with him. And, as far as cost, he is relatively inexpensive, with a 15% commission to buyer in a time where many charge an absurd 20% for much less. Tracy Luther is an auctioneer who should be a model for all, but is unfortunately still the exception.

The only thing they care about is how much money they can extract from you. Unethical, dishonest,…read moreself serving, with slimy business tactics. They sell copper and steel jewelry as 14k gold then hide behind their sold as is clause. Most auction houses test their gold pieces before they go up for sale. Most auction houses follow the laws put in place to protect consumers. It is ILLEGAL to sell junk jewelry disguised as precious metals. Jeff and Mary Hines don't care what laws they break, just that they can profit off you. They'll smile to your face and stab you in the back at the first opportunity. If you've ever purchased anything they've listed as gold you should have it tested as soon as possible. Hopefully you get lucky and have an actual authentic piece, I was not. Not surprisingly, the fraudulent pieces I purchased came from several different sales and was not an isolated incident. Over the past several years I had heard many people tell me of the unethical business practices of Hines Auction. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and trusted them to be upstanding business owners, to treat people fairly with honesty and respect. I got burned. Sadly, lying and cheating has become common everyday practice for Jeff and Mary. Personally I am sick of being ripped off and taken advantage of by business owners who chose to get ahead by stepping on the backs of others. It's truly disgusting and sad. I made the mistake of trusting them. Hopefully you will read this and take my word for it before you're also taken advantage of. I'd imagine there are many many people out there with Jeff Hines' footprint on their back and some may not even know it yet. They don't deserve your business or mine. I'm reporting them to the state today for their illegal business practices. I didn't want to. I actually hate doing things that will hurt people, even the people who have wronged me. Unfortunately Jeff Hines couldn't bring himself to do the right thing and refund me for the items he sold fraudulently. While I've waited for them to auction the items I left there over 2 years ago they've repeatedly put other sellers in front of me without explanation or apology. A few weeks ago he offered to refund me and then said I wasn't fast enough when my car broke down and he went on vacation to Mexico. If you're hoping to be treated fairly you'll need to go somewhere else. If you're ok with them selling you items they misrepresent in order to maximize their profit and screw you over as much as they possibly can, you'll definitely find that at Hines!! Now I'm faced with the decision of taking the loss and letting the greedy little fucker win or fighting it, going to court and notifying the proper authorities. It's not as hard a decision as I thought. Have I missed any review sites? Let me know by pm please.

They only check the oil to take a picture of it on the dipstick. One of their own employees, Megan, said the inspections are not done by mechanics. What does "professional" mean when inspecting a vehicle? I believe most people would think that would mean a qualified mechanic. My daughter bought a vehicle and drove it home about 150 miles. The transmission needs to be replaced! She had the vehicle 4 days! The auto shop that checked it out said that the transmission was over a quart low on fluid. He said it could not have leaked a quart in 4 days. I called and was told it was outside the 72 hour window for consideration. The 72 hour limit is not on their website or in any paperwork you sign. I emailed them asking for copies of all paperwork that I e-signed - still waiting. I called and was told we will call you back tomorrow. It did not happen, I had to call them back. Twin Cities Auctions is not considered a dealer, so they do not have to abide by dealer laws. They talk about "unwinding" the deal, but then send you form letters via email a couple of days later. I don't know how anyone could work at a place as shady as this. DO NOT BUY!

(Response to Owner) Thank you for your response. I do…read moreappreciate you acknowledging that the listing was incorrect. However, I want to clarify an important part of the situation that was not addressed. When I arrived and discovered there was only one board instead of the two clearly described in the listing, I did not simply reject your resolution. I asked for a reasonable middle-ground solution, to pay half of what I bid, since the lot was misrepresented as containing two boards. That request was dismissed without consideration. I ultimately chose to keep the single board because I had driven over four hours and had specifically bid on it with the intention of using it for wakesurfing. Walking away empty-handed after that time and expense was not a practical option. That said, keeping the item does not mean the situation was resolved fairly. The issue was never just that a mistake happened, I understand those can occur. The issue was how it was handled. Offering only a full refund or requiring full payment for an item that was clearly misrepresented did not feel like a customer-focused solution, especially when a reasonable compromise was suggested. From my perspective, it felt less like an effort to make things right and more like "take it or leave it," which is what made the experience so disappointing. I hope this additional context helps clarify why I felt the way I did. ((Original Post)) I have been part of the estate sale and online auction community for quite some time, and unfortunately, this has been the most disappointing experience I have had with an auction business. I placed a bid on a lot clearly titled and described as: "Phase5 Wakeboard Decks - The Wild Beige & Red - 50in Each (Lot of 2)." The description explicitly stated this and more: "Phase5 wakeboard deck set featuring two distinct boards for water sports. Both boards are approximately 50 inches in length and appear used with minor surface wear." Based on both the written description and the photos provided, I had every reason to believe I was bidding on two boards. As an online bidder, especially one traveling over four hours from out of state for pickup, I rely heavily on accurate descriptions. This platform offers both shipping and pickup, so it is not unreasonable to expect listings to be at least reasonably correct. Upon arrival, I was informed there was only one board included in the lot. When I brought up the listing and description directly from their own site, I was told their "AI sometimes messes up," and that they "try to double check." That explanation is difficult to accept, given how clearly and repeatedly the listing referenced two boards. After I expressed my concerns, especially after spending hundreds of dollars, the staff consulted their boss and offered two options: accept a refund so they could resell the item, or keep the single board for the full price I had paid. At no point did I feel like my experience as a customer mattered. The focus seemed to be entirely on preserving the sale rather than addressing the clear error in a meaningful or customer-focused way. While they referenced a general disclosure about potential inaccuracies, that does not excuse a listing that explicitly and repeatedly described a quantity that did not exist. It raises serious concerns about how such a significant discrepancy made it through their process in the first place. This experience was extremely disappointing. Given that similar concerns appear in past reviews, it does not seem like meaningful improvements have been made. I am sharing this for transparency and consumer awareness. If you are considering bidding, especially from a distance, be aware that the item you win may not match the description you relied on. Based on my experience, I will not be purchasing from this business again.
