My daughter had a horrible experience at a cleaning appointment. Her grandfather gifted her a year's worth of cleanings and when she arrived they said they had no record of it. A call to her grandfather fixed that. Everyone on staff was rude and dismissed her honest questions. Someone reached out to apologize and schedule another appointment. When she arrived to that one, they said they had no record of the appointment they scheduled and couldn't see her that day. Don't prepay. Once they get your money, you're just a number in their ledger. And if they do actually see you, they'll try to sell more expensive services. This business has definitely not planned for their growth. Stay away if you want dental "care." read more

Another good experience at Smith Dental Care. The atmosphere was lighter. They were playing music. People were laughing and everyone was nice. The dentist did a great job with numbing my mouth. I hate to have to give e this review because most of my experience with this Dental Office has been positive. The hygentists, doctors and dental assists that ive had the pleasure of meeting are awesome!!! Every visit was superb with them. The office front desk staff is a totally different story. Every visit came with a different issue. Firstly, I paid what I was told was to be my portion of the cost of whatever procedure I was going in for before hand, yet somehow Every visit I was told by one person that I owed money, only to be told by someone else that I didn't. Somehow I ended up in their system twice, causing much confusion. I don't even know if they finally straightened it out. The worst part was the fact that they started a procedure, that I paid my portion of $590 for as I was instructed, before the insurance company approved it. I don't know if this is standard procedure or not, but it has not failed well for me. We got halfway through the procedure (I was getting my two front teeth crowned) and on my final visit to have the permanent crown installed i was told that the insurance company denied the claim and before I could get the permanent teeth installed I had to pay over $2000!!!! Needless to say I am still upset because I do not have $2000 to give them and they will NOT finish what they started. It has been over a month since the temp teeth were installed and they are still there. I was basically told by the front desk staff and the billing department that they had no idea the insurance company was going to deny it and they couldn't help me any further! Needless to say I am exploring every avenue​ available to take legal action against this company for whatever. This is affecting my quality of life because these teeth were not bothering me before, but now they have been shaved down and I cant eat (due to the temp teeth being loose and close to detaching from what's left of my teeth), drink (because of extreme sensitivity) or sing (for fear of the temps falling out). This is the clown car of dental offices. I am new to Athens and was glad they had an open cleaning appointment. But it was really weird. I showed up, and the person doing the X-rays didn't seem to know how to use the machine. She took me to another person (neither said their name or what they were going to do), who took more bite wings X-rays, then left me alone for a long time. Someone else came in without saying his name or role (turned out to be a really young dentist) and did the oral exam. Then I sat there for another 10 minutes waiting for the hygienist to come in. She didn't say her name, and when I gave her my mouth guard to put in the cleaning machine as I do every visit elsewhere, she left the room and came back and told me that that's a separate service that costs $145? (It's free everywhere I've ever been.) I was there over half an hour without anyone saying hi or telling me their name, and when people were around, they seemed very unfriendly. It was like no one had ever dealt with patients in a dental office before! I asked if it was some kind of training clinic. I didn't trust the cranky hygienist and left without having my cleaning. read more

I have insurance, the root canal and crown, I was asked to pay $1200 in advance or they couldn't do the procedure, I came up with the money, paid it and had my procedur. The insurance paid more than they estimated $700plus dollars, it has been over 4 weeks and I still have not go my overpayment refunded, multiple phone conversations and conformation of the overpayment, but no refund, excuses, we only handle that once a month, only one lady does that for multpile location, we don't know if she has a large work load or not, we aren't sure if you have more dental work needed so we don't let people know they over paid, we don't know if they have a balance owed. For a company that says they put the patient first and requires you to pay for services in full before they even schedule you. I advise you to mare sure you confirm what your insurance will pay because they guess at it I assume and charge you accordingly then when they owe you a refund 4-6 weeks is all you gonna get even with a cut and dry refund, even their employees see the overpayment, investigations into it should take 15min max but 4 plus weeks after my procedure and they still haven't refunded my $700plus The bad thing is they don't seem to care and pass you from one person to another saying they will tell you the same thing. Patient comes first more like that dollar comes first cause once we get it, it's like pulling teeth to get them to refund money they owe you read more

I'm looking for a new dentist. Ok for cleaning but it feels like a factory and i was wondering how going forward would feel . I had a front tooth filling repaired. It fell out after one week. Went back to have it repaired. New doctor did a bit more to repair it but my bite felt off and within a week a piece of tooth chipped off. They also charged me for the repair which my insurance wouldn't cover. Surprise! Not! I'm not planning to go back there. I don't trust I'll get the care I need. read more

Unsanitary, unsafe records keeping and zero communication. Upon checking in, I noticed stacks of paperwork on the counter with billing details, including copies of patients' drivers licenses, current balance and services performed. This was worrisome as the receptionist had just taken our cards to make copies of and I assume our private information was displayed for anyone to copy as well. Once taken back, we explained what brought us into the office to the young lady in scrubs to which she responded "What do you wanna do about it?" We were confused and said we hadn't seen the dentist yet and didn't know what treatments were recommended. She replied she had to put down what we wanted to do so the dentist knew what to do... I said we would like the situation evaluated and would like recommendations and available treatment options. She said nothing and walked out. She came back saying no one working that day knew how to verify insurance so we would have to pay full price before seeing the dentist and we could just get reimbursed by our insurance. It was an urgent matter on the weekend so we paid. The dentist came in looked at the injury and asked what we wanted to do. He did not provide recommendations, explain the process or any treatment options. Due to the pain, we asked if it should be extracted? The dentist replied, "okay." The nurse came back with waivers and a sheet with two additional prices listed, one for $7500 one for $1400. No explanation. I still don't know exactly what these two prices would have been for other than "the next visit". She couldn't find a clipboard for the waivers so she dumped the surgical equipment on the counter with the mouse and keyboard and handed me the form in the tray. These tools were then used for the procedure... RUN away from this place. read more

Attitude and quality of service is very poor... Dr Smith is arrogant and snobbish... My initial visit was with Dr. Ahn.. besides the language barrier.. and his not acknowledging your concerns.. besides needing dentures.. I had a tooth that had a cavity.. and one that was chipped. Which neither Dr. Ahn or Dr Smith acknowledged after repeatedly being told.. and was just non-chalantly left in my mouth! The teeth on my dentures were very small and I was not able to chew with them. Dr Smith dismissed this.. that it s going to take time.. I was already 6 months into my wearing them. I asked to see the owner for my 99th visit. Dr Smith was quite rude and short tempered. Dr. Smith abruptly pushed my dentures in my mouth and when I yelled... he made a frustrating "blowing" sound. I immediately corrected him.. and told him "you hurt my mouth"... and that I should be the one "blowing"... his reply was "I didn't blow", I have a breathing problem... After he attempted 3 times to get my bottom partial in place.. He rudely told me... "You're going to have to go back to Dr. Ahn, and let him fix this.. I asked fix what? He rudely snapped "I can't get this partial in".... Besides running from me to his other patients... that you could hear him laughing with. Dr. Smith obviously did not want to be bothered with me. Even though I had paid over one thousand six hundred dollars out of pocket , my insurance BCBS was billed almost another $8,000 dollars. Let me not forget that only one of the staff that assisted both doctors and there were a total of five different ones... had any type of prior dental experience nor were they hygienist. Prior to the extractions, I was told that I would be given a script for pain med... I arrived at the pharmacy approximately 25 minutes later.. and I looked for my my prescription... I was not given one!!! . I sat in my car and called the Dental clinic... was told "Ob we forgot to give it to you... we'll call it in now".... After another 40 minutes I was finally able to get my pain medicine and go home. The competency of the staff and doctors is not what anyone should go through. When you do finally get started the dentist is rude as hell, huffs and puffs, shakes his head and everything like your wasting his time. I drove all the way from Atlanta to Athens to get some dental work done that the Lilburn office stated would be 700 I get to Smith dental and they tell me it's gonna be 1488. Okay Review is in!!!!!! Do Not GO HERE!!!!!!!!! This is the worst dental company I have ever experienced in my 55 years of life!!!!! My wife decided to get veneers! They told her two years ago, first we must straighten your teeth with braces. So we said okay. Two years later, we still dont know the name of any dentist there. We now have to go to another dentist to correct the over correction they screwed up. We never get to see the dentist more than 3 minutes once a year!!!!!!!!! I am not kidding. My wife saw her ortho twice in two years and a reg dentist twice in two years. And each visit was less than three minutes. The place charged is the same price as any dentist would but offered a great payment plan... well, can you say the wal-mart of dentistry at Macy's prices!!!!!!! They hire uneducated inexperienced assistants to do all the work. I cant even tell you. My wife and I had to take her braces off ourselves and they didnt even care. Three appointments for removal and they postponed all three vists - after waiting an average of two hours in the treatment room - because the dentist was over worked!!!! I have been trying to get a response from any dentist there and no one will communicate with me!!!!!!! Unbelievable! I am a physician myself and I can not believe this is a dental practice! BEWARE and AVOID!!!!!! You need a dentist to be sociable to you and know your name and your family and all about you. Your dentist should make you feel comfortable and reduce any anxiety that we have about getting our teeth worked on. We chose Smith Dentistry because of a referral. When I went to them the first time they were great. very kind and explained things to me. I had to go back a while back and have a tooth removed. it was a bridge, but there was only one tooth to pull. They charged me for 3 teeth removed and charged me over 600 dollars. When I questioned them they insisted this was the way they charged. They rushed me in and out that day. I feel this is wrong. All I had done was one tooth removed. The bridge was loose and that is why I had it removed. I felt like I was at a completely different office when I went this last time. My first experience was great!! read more

Why even have appointment times if they're going to have people sit in the office for an hour and half and then act surprised when I ask if I ever REALLY had an appointment. Their reasoning: "sorry we don't have anyone to clean the tools." My x-rays had to be retaken multiple times because she had no idea what she was doing. Dentist saw me for less than 60 seconds and peaked in my mouth for about 5. My husbands appointment went about the same. He sat in the waiting room for an hour past his appointment time only to get his teeth picked at and told he was done without ever actually cleaning and polishing his teeth. I will be calling to have them transfer our charts to another dentist. Completely unprofessional and disorganized office. What a waste of time and money. I hope they go out of business. read more

Took my son here yesterday, Sat. 1-4-2020(yes, they are open on weekends), to get his teeth cleaned. Very nice atmosphere, with them being brand new. The service is great, and they did a good job on his teeth. However, they did take a long time...well maybe not, considering he hasn't had his teeth cleaned in a long time...he's 23, so not b/c of me...his doings!!! I was referred to Smith Dental upon moving to Athens (2023). Kudos to my friend! The service I went for was teeth cleaning (I hadn't had it done in a year). They started with a complete set of ex-rays; the hygienist went over the results and pointed out the problem areas resulting in a deep cleaning. I was numbed with a gel that covered my pain. The hygienist was highly skilled yet very kind taking care that I wasn't suffering any discomfort while thoroughly cleaning my teeth. I was extremely pleased at the cost due to my not have dental insurance. I highly recommend this office if you are looking for a dentist. read more

Just had the worst experience of my Life! Smith Dental Care of Athens just now NEW The Service here is PISS POOR yes PISS POOR!!!! I Don't recommend ANYONE bringing their DOG here. I've been coming to this establishment since December 19,2018 with these Dang Braces. My treatment was for 24 months!! Here it is 2023 I'm STILL in Braces EVERY MONTH they call to cancel my appointments. I have to get ugly on the phone and then yes we will be able to see you. Now here's the kicker I DONT OWE THEM ANY MONEY! My Treatment is PAID IN FULL so NO y'all not gone shuffle me around like you want too! Every time I get use to a Ortho Assistant they change to someone new which is bad within itself. Get here today for a 6 p.m. appointment in which "Carla" that called yesterday to cancel said they would see me today after "speaking to a manager who told her to keep it at 6 p.m. today 3/22/23" They tell me we can't see you today your appointment was canceled and you didn't answer the phone when we called. LIES I had the phone record and the text message. The young lady that claims to be the manager came to the front desk with the wrong attitude to begin with "What can I help you with " what you mean I'm here for me 6 o'clock. I was set up to have a crown put in 2022. They set me up for an appointment to be prepped for the crown and I sat in the little room for at least 2 hours no one came in. Finally the Dentist came in laughing and singing songs with the radio and horse playing with the nurse. Few weeks later I went back for the crown and it didn't feel comfortable. I had to go back 2 more times and still the crown was not right. Finally I went to another Dentist office and they told me cement was left around the crown on my gums. They told me to go back to Smith Dental and that's when all my troubles started. Front desk was very nasty to me, rolling eyes, talking nasty to me like I was wrong for their mistakes. It took me about 7 months to get another crown put in because the Dentist broke the crown trying to remove the cement off my gums. The owner Smith put the second crown in on July 28th 2023 and his attitude was awful to me. He put the crown in adjusted it and didn't ask me any questions about how it felt or nothing but the bite is not good at all. The crown is too high and the bite is off. It's so disappointing and sad that this is not my fault. I can't call back for an appointment because the tone is set for me not to ever come back. Honestly I do believe I deserve my money back so I can get this fixed correctly. I asked for a refund and talked to the office manager about this and she said, "I can't see Dr Smith giving you anything" sad. I'm very dissatisfied. read more

Pro's - Open for appointments 7 days a week. - Payment plans for all patients. Con's - I experienced the following unacceptable behavior and practices by the dentist who treated me in the Athens Eastside location. - Pain as he was drilling into my tooth. When I stopped him he stated that most patients do not feel pain. He then injected something to numb the area and without any delay continued to drill into my tooth. I had to make the dentist stop and give it time to numb. - Pieces of my tooth and other debris were being flung inside my mouth while he was drilling (2 pieces were lodged in my throat) I had to stop him twice to remove the pieces from my throat. - The dentist argued with the office manager and several of the dental assistant's about his time schedule and what each assistant should be doing. All of this going on in the room I was in and in the hallway where other patients could also hear their disagreements. - The above incidents occurred over several appointments. My dental work was not completed. I will not go back there as I do not trust them and am very uncomfortable with their lack of professionalism. It was a horrible experience for me. Update: Update: The manager reached out to me. I went back to Smith Dental Care and waited to speak with the manager. She went over the instructions with me on how to use them, replaced the gel tube I used, and also gave me an adapter portion that I had been missing. I consider myself a nice person, and this is my second negative review that I have ever left somewhere in my life. I have a tendency to just let things go, however I am very frustrated with Smith Dental Care right now. Do not get me wrong they have GREAT hours, location, professional set up, and some pretty amazing staff members (shoutout to Ms. Fanny and Ms. Tatuianna)! However, they can be VERY disorganized. My second appointment with them was for a fill in and mold for whitening trays. After arriving and waiting for 30 mins to an hour I was told that they orthodontist was not scheduled to come that day so I would have to come back. Why was my appointment scheduled on a day where the right staff would not be there? Then after rescheduling and taking care of the molds and fill in I was told my bleaching trays would be ready in the next week and they would give me a call. I patiently waited, because I understand that things happen. After two weeks, I decided to call back and check. When I call I am usually on hold for 7-10 minutes. They said they were still not in yet but had just gotten a shipment in that day and would call me when they arrived. Again, I waited. It ended up being over a month since my molds were taken that I finally called and said no this is too long I am moving soon I where are they. I waited to speak to a manager who then started to question if I even had molds done or had selected to get bleach whitening trays. UM you cannot forget getting that yucky cemet shoved down your throat lol and also I HAD ALREADY PAID FOR EVERYTHING. Then they finally call back and tell me they found them and I can come get them. FINALLY. I arrived later that day and patiently waited for the trays. I was told the manager herself would meet me but she never came out to speak with me. I was sent home with the trays and a paper they said would have instructions on how to use them. Yeah....so turns out that paper was only a FAQ sheet and did not explain how to use them, how long to keep them in, how often to do it, NOTHING. After frantically trying to Google how to use them I decided to just try and figure it out myself. Well that did not go well. I ended up using too much gel (found out later via Google) so it was overflowing in my mouth and irritated my gums. Now I am down a gel stick, had a horrible/stressful night trying to figure this out, and my teeth are not ANY whiter :(. TLDR: Smith Dental Care has its perks. I have even recommended several friends to them some who have even went, but after this experience I take it all back and they are just not worth it. read more
