REF: DOG TRAINING  If I could give this place 1,000 stars, I would!! Darrell (the owner) is an excellent dog trainer, and 100% knows what he's talking about! I've been looking for dog trainers for over a year, but a lot of Atlanta dog trainers use e-collars--even for basic training of non-aggressive dogs--which I do not like. Luckily for me, on one of my many trips to Lenora Park, I saw Darrell traininAlarm clock for 130 g a dog. At first, I thought it was his dog because the dog was extremely attentive...and then I saw him give the dog to the owner "for practice"; and the dog wasn't as attentive. After a few words to help the owner realize what she was doing wrong, the dog was attentive and the owner had a huge smile on her face. This was all in a span of 5 minutes so it was amazing to watch!  The following week, I saw Darrell training two more dogs and the same thing happened... To me, it was like magic so I flagged him down to get more information / get his business card.  When I got home, I went to his website and thought his training prices were pretty high, so I didn't immediately reach out. Fast forward two months, my YouTube training videos weren't working (haha :) ) so I organized a group training session with Darrell and we definitely learned a lot. Like they say, "You get what you pay for!!"  Side-note: there was a slight miscommunication with scheduling but Darrell was more than gracious to make it up to us. He offered us a free, 1-hour training session so I was very impressed! But it also made me wonder why a few low ratings complained about Smith Farms' customer service?? Granted, it was only two reviews, so I'll just assume those reviewers had unrealistic demands. Lastly, I will definitely refer more friends to Darrell / Smith Farms dog training, and if I ever need to board my dog, I will definitely try their boarding. I'm also going to try them for grooming, too! read more

I highly recommend Smith Farms for any training or boarding needs for your dog. I was hesitant to send my 10 month old Yorkie to a boarding kennel for training but I am so glad I did. After 3 weeks of training he came home a different dog. His attention is much improved and he is a much calmer dog. Andy was the best helping me understand what my dog was thinking and how to counteract those thoughts/bad behaviors and direction his abundance of energy in a positive manner. This experience has been a life saver for my family because he was getting closer to the 1 year mark and he had developed some bad habits. Started out fine, The facilty was clean and the personal were polite and answered all our questions. We scheduled a tour of the kennels for another day. When we returned to tour the kennels everything looked good. We booked for two nights. We recieved an email indicating check in time after 7:30 AM and check out before 6;00PM . We were told they billed per night not per day , we were also told there was a different rate for what they described as day care. I assume that is if your pet stays for a day not a night. Well we dropped our dog Pixie off the morning of the 19 th. We reviewed her medicine, food ,age, and personality and care. This was not the first time we had boarded pixie or had left her with someone in a new place unfamiliar to her. There had never been any issues before in fact all reports about her additude ,eating and association with her surrounding were favorable. Well things went down hill when we picked her up on the afternoon of the 21 st . First thing was a charge for a 3rd, evening( which I paid for without complaining) Second was the time it took for the attendant to get Pixie. It seamed as though it was a bit long. In fact both my wife and myself thought it was unusually long. So we did not leave right away and chat with the girl who retrieved Pixie for a few minutes . Durring the conversation I noticed Pixie was happy to see us however she seemed a little off. Anyway durring our talk we mentioned bringing her back to the kennel several more times for a 5 to 9 day period . What was odd to me was the reaction of the attendant she used the word IF not WHEN regarding any future stay , Most people in business or in sales use the word when because if is a negitive and when is a positive. When we got home I came to the conclusion she used the word if because she knew more about Pixies stay than we did . Pixie got home and was not acting herself and after 14 years i believe my wife and i know our dog and her patterns very well. She was panting, pacing, and started to have the liquid diarhea . It lasted for three days. When we contacted the kennel regarding this and simply asked them if it were possible pixie may have gotten into something beyond their contriol or if maybe another dog at taken ill , their responce was bassically that was impossible and in fact Pixie was a very sweet dog but she did not eat for 2 and half days and would not take her medicine. WELL I supose that is possible but if that was the case ,HOW IS IT WE WERE NOT INFORMED ABOUT IT WHEN WE PICKED HER UP. ?? Someting just does not sound right.They told us to find another place to board her. read more

Trying to find the words to share just how impressed I was with my German Shepherd's training and marked behavioral improvement. Andy (her trainer) worked magic not only on her, but showed me as her opener what I need to to. He's done in 3 weeks what I couldn't do in a year, and has give me the tools/knowledge to maintain and continue building my dog's abilities. Can't speak highly enough about Andy'a extraordinary work with my dog, the gracious staff that dealt with my "helicopter mom" moments, and just the overall care they gave my furbaby. If you're thinking about taking your dog to training with Smith Farms, just do it! read more

I posted a picture of my dog and what happened during the last and FINAL visit my dog will ever spend there. He didn't deserve this neglect and I even contacted them twice during his stay. My dog is prone to hotspots and I informed them in DETAIL along with meds to stop the spread. Along with this both his front legs were also infected from top to paws!!!! HOW COULD YOU NOT TELL ME!!!!!!!! Instead this is how we picked him up!!! Also I paid for EXTRA CUDDLE TIME and if this service was provided there was NO WAY your staff COULD HAVE MISSED THIS!! What was their response when we asked... We DIDN'T SEE IT!!!! WTH!! Yes they only offered to pay PART of the vet bill !!!!!! His hotspot meds were expired since we haven't used them for 14 MONTHS!!!! This is a warning of how this place is being run. My dog is 11yrs old and it WEEKS to come back from this MESS!!!! Rockdale Animal Hospital was SHOCKED and can back ALL OF THIS UP!!!!!!!! So thanks for the trama and the rest of the vet bill!!!! So warning to all don't believe ANYTHING they say they did if you use them!!! I should have been refunded but they won't return calls !!!!!!!! Instead of apologizing for being incredibly rude, he defended his actions. As I said previously, all business owners have the right to refuse service, however, it can be done professionally. PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW - The owner of Smith Farms, Darrell is rude, condescending, scared of dogs and has no idea what customer service means. We scheduled boarding with our two puppies and not only did he refuse to board because one of our dogs was overly excited and scared, he rudely refused to board without an apology. We offered to call our vet and other facilities that have boarded them and he decided quickly that he was not going to board our puppies. Since this occurred the day before we were scheduled to go on Christmas vacation, we were nervous and thought that we would have to cancel our vacation. Fortunately, Critters in Douglasville, GA saved the day. They were very professional and told us how well behaved our dogs were. We understand that business owners have the right refuse service to anyone but this could have been handled differently. read more

I've used Smith Farms for years and was generally happy, but things started to slip the last few years and we went somewhere else, but the new ownership has me happy again! Running like a crackerjack first rate business with multiple personnel, more open pick-up and drop-off times and multiple incentives to board. Still the same lovely setting with plenty of space for "rompability" and one on one cuddle time, which our dog, Buddy, loved. We call it going to the "spa," not the kennel! Our dogs love Smith Farms. Knowing that they are having fun while we are out of town just makes vacation that much more relaxing. We have two labs and a small poodle. Our poodle loves going to day care. He has some separation anxiety but never hesitates to jog right in to Smith Farms, which makes me feel good about leaving him there to play on days that I can't be with him. The caretakers are kind and welcoming and know the dogs by name. We highly recommend Smith Farms. read more

I 100% recommend Smith Farms Boarding. My GSD has been going to their facility for months and often times when I pick him up, he never wants to leave. He is always so excited to go and he loves everyone there. Smith Farms has helped him to come out his shell and been a great aid in getting him socialized with other dogs. I also love the amount of space they have for the dogs to roam free and have play time. They also separate them based on size and temperament. Absolute all star place! I had to emergency board a rescue dog I was adopting while I prepped my home. I'm in intown Atlanta and the dog is a high energy, one year old husky retriever mix. Boarding him at a midtown kennel for a couple of weeks where he'd play inside with day care pets then put in a crate at night didn't sit well with me. So happy I found Smith Farms where my dog got lots of attention, love and outdoor play. I could tell from the pictures they posted on Facebook he had the time of his life. Smith Farms is OTP but we'll worth the extra distance to make sure your dog has a warm secure place to stay with plenty of space and outdoor exercise. Also the staff is kind, attentive, accessible and very much dog lovers. Highly, highly recommended. read more

This is exactly what we were looking for from a boarding farm. My dog is about 9 months old and our reason for going with Smith Family Farm for our first boarding was his obvious love of dogs. Our dog immediately had a positive response to Darryl right when we arrived. We wanted to ensure that our puppy was able to socialize in way that taught him how to properly socialize with other dogs. Darryl made a detailed plan to work on socializing our puppy. He paired him with dogs that would encourage our puppy to play. Smith Farm checked in during the first visit. He provided updates on how our plan for socialization was going. The kennel is clean and well maintained and we highly recommend. Can't imagine leaving our puppy with anyone else. read more

I have been taking my 2 dogs to SFK, for over 3 yrs. There located a little far from Atlanta, and they used to offer pick up and delivery, but as gas prices increased, that was eliminated. The owners are very into there guests, and not their human owners, although, they have gotten a lot better recently. But as far as I'm concerned, its about my dogs and not me. The place is spotless. I have left my dogs there from 2 days to 14 qnd 18 day stays. I highly recomend this kennel, just let them do there job, bc there really into there business. read more

This place is awesome. The staff is super friendly, the place is clean enough to eat off of, and they really put a lot of time and care into what they do. They post pictures and videos all the time. I always see my dogs when I'm on vacation and they are always healthy and happy when we get back. Darrell is super knowledgeable and thoughtful when it comes to training as well. Even in dogs he doesn't train he is able to watch and give advice on what he thinks would help. Would give more stars if I could. read more

Our two dogs are both rescues and one of them, Sammy, is often fearful of tall men. Last December was the first stay at Smith Farms with the new owners. Sammy pitched a fit, barking and trying to back away when it was time to enter the kennel. Darrell hooked up the leashes to both doggies and proceeded to take them for a walk. As we drove away, they were happily trotting beside Darrell in one of the large fields, and we knew that we had nothing to be concerned about. We recently took our 2 rescue pups (9 months old) to Smith Farms for the 3 week board and train program. The transformation of our dogs was AMAZING. They completely understand heel, sit, stay, down commands and were so well taken care of. Smith Farms even posted pictures and videos on their FB page so we could see their progress during training (my kids really loved seeing these! we all missed them so much during the 3 weeks). Better yet, Darrell spent 2-3 hours with our whole family on 2 different days so that we could 'get trained' with the dogs, to understand and reinforce all that they learned during the training. This is so important for the dogs to retain what they learned and not backslide once they get back home. I was so impressed with the training that we've already made reservations to board our dogs there for an upcoming vacation. Highly recommend! read more

Normally, my husband and I leave our dog with family, but that was not possible this last trip. Some family friends have been bringing their dog here for years and when we were looking into options for our dog, they suggested Smith Farms. I was a little worried, as we have never boarded our dog before and he is terrified of the vet. We came out for a tour and talked with Sandi and left feeling really good about booking them for our dog's vacation. I felt even better the day I dropped him off. He took one sniff and happily went off to his room. He was there for just over two weeks and when we picked him up today, I can tell that he had fun and that they took good care of him. My two are very talkative so I did worry about that, but they assured me that everything will be fine. They do a very good job when it comes to accommodating the needs of the pet. I am an Animal Rescuer for 28 years. I am not easy to please. I can highly recommend Gwinnet Animal Hospital Vet, Dr. Nancy Churchill, Dr. Brad Harris ad Reg Vet tech and massage therapist Andrea Haupt. Dr. Churchill is very concientious,knows her meds and how to use them. I have utmost respect for her opinions on all of my animals and my rescues. Dr. Brad Harris is probably as good as any specialist in Atlanta on skin issues. I have a Doberman that has Alopecia and was scratching all the time. He totally took care of the condition and he is also great on any feedback. Andrea Haupt , the Reg Vet tech has taken many of my rescues who had no social skills and turned them around with her kind and gentle manner and massages. The clue to this is reading the dog and the owner. Plus-They listen!! Thanks to all of them and their great staff-they go beyond the call of duty. AWFUL - DO NOT USE THIS KENNEL 03/03/2008 Posted by sbmills DO NOT USE THIS KENNEL. The owners are arrogant, rude and do not honor their agreements. We dropped our dog off on a Sat. and specifically asked one of the owners if it would be allright if we picked him up on our way home from the airport the next Fri. Gave her the time we should arrive and also asked if we would have to pay for an additional day since it should only be 10 - 20 minutes past the cutoff time for departures. She assured us this would not be a problem to pick him up and we wouldn't be charged for an additional day. We arrived at 12:10, no one answered the bell. We waited for 15 minutes then left a note on the door. We went to lunch thinking the owners might be on break as well, came back 1 hour later. The gate was closed but not locked. We opened the gate to the driveway and drove to the kennel. Rang the bell again, still no response at the kennel door. My husband went up to their house to see if everything was allright and was treated VERY rudely - told to come back at 5:00 and then had the door shut in his face. He came down to the kennel to pick me up, telling me we had to come back at 5:00. While picking me up, the two owners stomped down to the kennel and proceeded to bless us out. When I reminded the same owner who agreed to let us pick him up on our way home of our conversation, she very arrogantly told me "You were talking so much when you dropped him off, telling me what I needed to be done for him (the dog) that you didn't listen to me." They continued to speak hatefully the entire 20 minutes we were there. They charged us for the extra day as well as charging us $8.00 per time they played ball with our dog. We chose not to argue and paid their demands as we just wanted to get our dog out safely and leave. I shall tell everyone I know DO NOT USE THIS KENNEL. They may have made an extra day out of us, but they lost any future business from us or our family and friends. I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable leaving my dog there again. read more
