I do not understand all the bad reviews I see here. Smith Outdoor Power is an exemplary company with knowledgeable staff, servicemen, and personnel. I bought my Stihl weed eater and my new zero turn mower there. They have always been my go to for service, quality products, and help. They even once helped me with my Craftsman chainsaw as the chain was a royal pain to get back on. They helped me with that, fixed it, tightened it, and said don't worry about it. No charge. 5-star outfit for sure! read more

The worst retail experience, ever. I took 2 electric chainsaws to Smith Outdoor Power Equipment. I was told they would fix the saws, and I would get a call in about 6 weeks. Both of those statements to me were false. 2 months later, I made contact and went by to pick up my saws. I was told they were not fixed, that there could have been a problem with the batteries. Later, I checked closely, and there was absolutely no problem with the charge on either battery. Then they said I would need to pay for them NOT fixing my saws - parts and labor - "that'll be 80 bucks". As I was leaving the store, I said to myself, "these are not good people". And I still feel that way! What kind of people agree to repair my gear, fail at trying to fix it, not call me back, and when I show up - just say cash, check, or credit card? It really pains me to give this review because Smith's has always been my "go to" place. I've probably spent over $3000 there since 2013. That's not huge, but it's enough to have dealt with them on numerous occasions. I've bought a couple mowers, a couple chainsaws, a couple blowers and at least one trimmer and misc "stuff" and parts. But, they're slipping. Actually, they're in a full slide - and it's downhill, not into home plate. Three weeks ago they were supposed to have some parts in for a Snapper mower. They were about a week late getting in. Well passed the promised date. A little over a week ago I called to see about some additional Snapper parts and was told they would be in Tuesday, which was great because it would give me a chance to install them today - Thursday. So, after going to pick them up I'm told that they weren't ordered by Smith from Snapper until a full week after I ordered them from Smith. I'd say that they are still good on new equipment, but completely unreliable on parts if they have to order them. That's a shame. read more

Received a call from my business partner, saying he picked up a rotor tiller for $100, no biggie till the kicker, IT DON'T RUN!!! He located the parts to get it up and going again at Smiths Outdoors Power Equipment. I took my wright stander I in for a hydraulic service and to sharpen the blades. Took 2 days, which isn't that big of deal, but instead of sharpening the blades they replaced them. Without authorization first. I would have bought blades but I was not asked before hand, they were just replaced and of course I was charged for them. I was also charged for 2 hydraulic filters instead of one. When I picked up it was close to the end of the day, but 2 employees basically argued of who needed to help me. Just check me out please. I don't care who it is. The cushion was removed and partially put back on. The bolts were literally barely even started. This was my first and last time back. I am usually understanding but there was no remorse or urgency for replacing and charging for parts that were not authorized. Bad service. read more

Came to the store for a Honda mower and Stihl chainsaw a few days before a Stihl sale. Was quoted a price for the mower. Returned during the sale to buy both items. Was quoted $30 more on the mower than a few days before. Told the young salesman what I had been quoted but he said they had never sold that mower at that price. He acted as though I had made up the price and basically called me a liar. I had to get the mower as I needed it that day. I told him he could keep the chainsaw. I won't be back to Smith's and all because of $30 and I'm not real fond of being called a liar! read more

I brought in a stihl string trimmer with a broken shroud. I asked how much to replace the shroud in person with the employee. He looked it up and quoted me $88.00. I told him to repair it and he said it would be about a week. This is a three year old trimmer and is only $169.00 for a new one. Today I picked it up and was told it was $120.00 for the repair. When I asked why when I was quoted $88.00 by the other salesman he said it was $88.00 just for the parts. I said I would have bought a new one if it was that much but I had to pay it to get it back. Felt very weird. I came in for some advice on a 0 turn lawn equipment also get my repairs. And terry was very uncomfortable to talk with. I felt ashamed that I had ask a question. I went to take my business some where else. And never been happier. I have to say the mechanics know there stuff. Before I ask terry about the lawn equipment. Rude, inconsiderate and expensive. Treated me as if I had offended them because I bought my mower at Lowe's instead of buying one of theirs and insulted because I wanted them to do some repair work on it. Was told, "We only service what we sell." Told the guy, "that's funny, you worked on it last week." So, I took my business elsewhere. read more

It might be cold weather and still February, but my lawnmower will be needed soon. The poor dear was neglected [by my son, I take no responsibility] and left out in the weather and wouldn't start. I took the mower in to Smith's and was given a two-week wait period, which was fine with me. They called me two days later to tell me it was repaired! Customer service at Smith Outdoors is absolutely horrific; from the minute you walk in the door until the moment you exit their business. It's almost as if they don't want your business. Unless you're a contract landscaper the impression is they prefer you to go elsewhere. I've done business with them a few times over the years and always walk out with the same impression; however, I've continued to go back...why I'm not sure. Guess that makes me the fool. They pissed me off enough this last time that I'll take my business elsewhere. I'm sure others will no doubt sing their praises, but that's simply my experience. read more

Never again. Been trying to get a simple bolt for a lawnmower wheel that fell off. Took the entire wheel assembly and sheared bolt to try and match the part, they wouldn't even look and the gentleman at the end of the counter said in a very condescending manner it could literally be any of a hundred different , without the model # they couldn't tell. How about actually taking a look? Went back later with the model # and was told they had to order it. No problem. Went back to pick up the part, and they just gave me the bolt, no but. Guy seemed surprised when I said I needed a nut as well. Get home and realize I'm still missing a piece (spacer) to finish the fix. I originally took the entire wheel assembly figuring they would help me get the right parts for the fix. Instead I got nothing but condescension. I normally like supporting small local businesses over the megastores, but I will not spend another dime at this store. read more
