Found Dr. Duncan and felt heard and cared for. All interactions have been friendly, professional, and prompt. I felt the care that I received was quite personal for my needs, including the way the anesthesiologist talked with me. Dr. Duncan performed, what I believe to have been a medically necessary abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). Even after just 9 weeks, I am so happy with the results, and am looking forward to the continued healing that will continue during the next few months for the full results. I made an appt with Dr. Duncan to discuss my options and pros and cons. Despite having little reviews for guidance, her 30 years of experience satisfied me and I booked the $75 consult appt. The office is big- a bit older style but clean. Front desk staff is nice. Upon arrival, I completed my paperwork and was taken back pretty promptly for my appt. Once Dr. Duncan arrived, I explained to her my needs but without really asking questions, she began discussing another option that she studies and has brought into her practice. It was so far off the reason for my appt, I didn't really know what to say. Though interesting, I wasn't inclined to purse it though I went through the estimate process with her billing coordinator. A 10 min procedure was $2500 and Dr.Duncan said she hasn't done a lot of them. I just wasn't so confident about things with her. She seems nice enough but I wished more time with me on the subject I was there for would have happened. I felt dismissed in a way... If that makes any sense. I didn't get to fully explain things as I wanted. So much for the $75 consult fee! Just not the place for me.

Prior to meeting with her, I was on Proactiv; it took some convincing, but she eventually converted me to prescription products, which, much to my chagrin, worked much better. Then, I was switched from VitaClear (Proactiv's vitamin/mineral supplement) to Skin Accumax, another game changer. Next, I was subjected to cautery on my sebaceous glands, which was initially very painful on my skin (to me it felt like I was getting stung by wasps), but a magical buzz device made it relatively painless. Finally, I did microneedling with Tegan Ryan to attenuate my acne scars. Throughout this entire process, I e-mailed Dr. Pilkington several questions -- she always responded the very same day. Tegan Ryan is the only aesthetician I've ever had, but she is without question the best. Microneedling was a little scary to me at first (just the sound of it made me cringe). Tegan put me at ease with her calm demeanor as well as lovely conversation -- I didn't feel any pain whatsoever even though she made me look like she'd just beaten me in an MMA fight. After three sessions of microneedling, several scars have not only diminished but practically disappeared! Upon completing the above comprehensive skin treatment plan over the course of just a few months, my skin looks much more youthful, I dare say like Dr. Pilkington's and Tegan's. After answering that question (with my concern about potential skin cancer) was I told that the doctors are not accepting new patients. I told the receptionist that it was strange to be asked what I'm interested in first, if the doctor is not accepting new patients. I asked if the answer would be different if I was interested in cosmetic services and she told me "yes". There would be a significant wait, but I could schedule for a cosmetic consult, and I could not have medical concerns addressed at such a visit. This told me everything I need to know about this practice. Skin cancer, which is potentially lethal, is not something they have time for - cosmetics pay much more.

There's an elevator available to bring you up to the 3rd floor, being the Boulderite that I am I took the stairs. I enjoyed a cup of cool refreshing water, a mini snickers, and just took in all the products and brochures available in the waiting area. The waiting area is open, clean, and full of lots of great natural light. I completed some paperwork which replaced my out of date paperwork on file. Within a few minutes Anne came out to greet me (she is the same awesome gal that administered my halo). We went on back and discussed the treatment further which included what I could expect during, and after the appointment, as well as aftercare. Once on the table I felt relaxed, confident, and ready to get started. Anne suited me up with a band to keep the hair out of my face, cleansed my skin and prepped it for the chemical peel. She administered each layer of the chemical peel always checking in to see how I felt before moving on to the next step. Before I knew it I was out the door and on my way back to work. I did wait a little longer then anticipated in the waiting room but I really didn't mind too much since I wasn't on any particular schedule that day. The roomy waiting area had a box of toys for kids to enjoy and tea or coffee available if you wish to grab a cup. Dr. Swail was kind and I felt comfortable with him. He was also reasonable with pricing which was great because I've researched many doctors back home in California that are qualified and priced right. Nonetheless, I am fairly local to this area and would love to patronize a great practice. I am still doing my due-diligence (as should all of you) but Boulder Valley is up there in the ranking of potential places to get some work done. Not sure exactly when & exactly what I will be getting, but I do know I have the option to come back here to discuss further when the time comes. No phone call. No email. No notice whatsoever. This isn't a small inconvenience- this is completely unacceptable. It shows a series breakdown in communication, respect, and basic patient care. Families who work, who plan ahead, and who don't have endless flexibility cannot afford to be treated this way. We now have to start over with scheduling, adding even more delay to the necessary surgery for my 8yr old son. I would strongly recommend the clinic reevaluate their processes, because what happened today was beyond frustrating and absolutely disrespectful. I have notified his primary eye doctor of this interaction today and requested a referral for a different specialist.
