IF YOU'RE A NEW PATIENT BEWARE! This office is disastrous. They will not review your insurance. They will not ask you whether you are ok with paying out of pocket for services. They will perform the services they think you need without asking you if you are ok with what they are going to charge you. STAY AWAY! One visit was enough to not have me come back ever. I have the best dental insurance out there and they charged me $190 out of pocket for a cleaning so my suggestion is go to an dentist office that cares about their patients pockets not one that tries to pick them. read more

I recently became a patient of the Darryl Smith Dental Group in Swampscott, MA. I have had two cleanings and one appointment with Dr. Smith. This is a dental service that I will look forward going to! The receptionists are cordial. Liz Sweeny is an excellent hygienist; very thorough and professional. I went to Dr. Smith under the recommendation of some online reviews (especially one which came from a family who moved to New Hampshire and still drives down to see him). I would say that the great reviews are certainly deserved as Dr. Smith & his staff are so professional and caring. It is incredibly easy to book/cancel/reschedule appointments and all my questions about insurances/finances were answered fully. As for the dental work, it is amazing! I actually like my cleanings here (they will numb your gums with the flavored gel) - they make sure that I feel ok and comfortable at all times. The cleanings are also very extensive and careful, and I always feel great afterwards - so refreshing. I have gotten composite fillings done here and Dr. Smith & assistant did an excellent job with them - from the anesthesia injections (done slowly without damaging the nerve) to the drilling+filling. Everything is done with aplomb & competence. When they couldn't do something -wisdom teeth removal-, they referred me to a great oral surgery place that did an amazing job (great recovery!) Overall, this is a great place to get dental work done. Just make sure you have enough funds because dental work in general can be expensive, and when they are as pleasant experiences as those I've had here, you might end up spending a lot! My wife was sent to Dr. Smith by her implant dentist to obtain a cat scan of her mouth. Entering the waiting room we were bombarded by extremely loud rock/roll music. I stated to my wife in a voice, which I intended the secretary's in the open window to the waiting room to hear. No response. Another patient arrived and remarked per the intensity of the speakers. Shortly a female entered the waiting area to call for a patient. Immediately reacting, regarding the volume. Thus too informing the secretary. No adjustment. Shortly another, entered the waiting area calling a patient. She too reacted to the intensity of sound. She informed the secretary. No adjustment. My wife was called and returned in approximately five minutes. We were told a disk was being produced. Twenty minutes expired. My wife became ill, holding her head due to the intensity of the volume. I would take her home; assisted her to stand, she went to the window to explain why we were leaving. Another lady in the secretary area said it was taking so very long to burn the disc because their machine was broken. She then added the volume switch for the speaker system was broken as well. What no shut-off switch! So upset left without the courtesy to be informed of such. Concerned for my wife, disgust with a Dr. who wouldn't have instructed his staff's reaction to such incidents and stated my disrespect for him, relating in agravation, I considered him a piece of shit. Phoned back two hours hence to inquire if the disk was available. It was. I returned and was kept waiting. Smith motioned me to his office and was impolite, rude and abusive to my label of him. I said, "You are making your problem my problem. Yelled at me to never return or he would phone the police. For what honesty. Why would I? Why would you! read more

I was referred to Dr. Smith 10 years ago. I could not have known how good of a dentist he is until I needed my front teeth worked on. I have been so happy with the results. I smile all the time, when I never used to. The whole office is beautiful and the staff is very nice. I highly reccomend this dental office. I was a new patient to Dr. Smith and was told that they would get me a pre-estimate from my insurance prior to the procedure I required. As my appointment date neared they still didn't have the pre-estimate. They claim it was my insurance's fault, which is fine, but when I told them that I thought I ought to re-schedule my appointment, I was told that I would have to pay right around $200 ($100 X 2 sessions.) Now I have my bill and I'm on the hook for almost $600. I should have cancelled the appointment. Lesson learned...I will definitely be finding a new dentist. read more

This is a great office! I am a dental hygienist and while I was in school, I assisted here one summer. I was able to see what wonderful care Dr Smith provided for his patients. He is very meticulous with careful attention to detail. This is a priority for me in my dentist. Even though I work some where else, I come here for my dental work and cleanings. The hygienists do a wonderful job. The assistant, Erica, is a pleasure to have at my side when I need something done. Everyone here is very friendly and helpful. My prologue to this review is that I hate going to "the dentist". Yet, my experience with Dr. Austin Lee at Smith dental group has inspired me to write this review. I am an anxious patient and yet Dr. Austin was calm and patient with me. He was open To answering as many questions as I asked without annoyance. He wasn't in a rush to get to the next patient but to make sure that I was completely satisfied. He is an extremely intelligent dentist who worked precisely, efficiently and is very informed and informative about the newest techniques and equipment. I was very impressed to find that his practice owns a CAD/CAM that can create a porcelain crown while I comfortably waited in the office. I highly recommend Dr. Austin and will feel much more confident and more relaxed the next time I need to have work done. I have neverrrr had a problem making a payment until today with Michelle. I have been paying down an unnecessary periodontal visit since June, not to mention LIFE HAPPENS. However I called to make a payment and Michelle is the most unprofessional, arrogant front desk person I have ever come across and to be honest this isn't the first time I have dealt with this from her. Her tone is horrible, she has no manners and I was doing HER a disservice by paying MY bill. If you don't like what you do then find somewhere else to work. read more

I'm not going to go into how overpriced and unprofessional Dr Smith's staff is (eh-hem receptionist and billing person), let me just say that for what I spent on a crown (that was magically made in his ridiculous machine that he purchased for his fancy new office) I should not have to be replacing it only 3+ years later. I'm frustrated that he sold me a "bill of goods" by telling me he had all of this updated equipment that would laser cut my crown and I'd never need another one (at least in this decade). Thanks Dr Smith, now I'm forced to have it re-done and spending another $1000 on work that I already paid you for. If I thought that I'd get anywhere forcing you and your staff to fix it, I would. Knowing what I'm dealing with there (and the attitude that comes along with it) I'd rather go elsewhere and get it done right. If you have any fears with goig to the dentist then don't go here. My experience was horrific I'm still recovery. I legit was SHAMED and forced to look at a picture of my sick teeth for hours nothing like being scolded and ridiculed and paying to be abused. I've never been so insulted! Stay away and find another dentist. This practice is over-priced and unreasonable. I had an awful experience and the dentist was beyond inflexible at our attempts to resolve the issue. They have a very expensive new building and rent to pay for so I did the math. My issue was that my employer switched and so did my insurance and the billing entanglements were a challenge. The short story is that the receptionist wasn't kind enough to help me sort through the red tape of their office not billing the correct insurer for services rendered. Dr Smith ended up sending me to collections for a $600 bill because he and his staff couldn't sort through the insurance. I fought him on his, but he would rather loose an entire family of four over $600 than either write it off or spilt with me if he couldn't settle the insurance issue with me. Well, they went to collections straight away and this effected my credit. I really tried my best to reason with him and his staff, but they choose to not see the life time value of a client. Since this time I have steered my friends and family away from him...too bad, small town. read more

He is beyond reasonable and fair in the treatment options he offers and is willing to work with you to ensure that everything is taken care of. Dentist charges $500-700 for x-rays, casts, etc to be used in "treatment" of teeth which is supposed to be applied to your account. However, should you not choose (or not be able to afford) his choice of treatment, he will KEEP your money and refuse to apply it to normal dental treatment like fillings! I have contacted the State of Massachusetts as I find this so outrageous and unethical. read more
