We are supposed to have them done by October 2020 but that has been extended since Covid 19. Now the offices are closed until the lockdown is lifted. So then it may be best to take care of it online. dmvnow.gov You also need to arrive early if you want to get in and out. They usually open at 8:30 so I have gotten in line at 6:30 am. Yes I am an early bird. But I was first in line took care of my moms ID and we were out by 8:50. Super friendly. Everything hinges on your patience and whether or not they had someone who was rude before you. At crazy times like the present we just all need to be mindful of how to treat others. Be kind and accommodating to everyone and you'll get great service.

If they do not know the answer, or they can not help because they only offer certain services, they will point me and/or other customers in the right direction. Recently we were there and we were in and out in minutes. All we had to do is switch plates around after buying a new car. The service was great. The clerk was so nice, helpful and knowledgeable on the service we needed. The parking lot is large, and shared with many other businesses. Once inside the DMV select office is to the right down a hall on the first floor.

We waited in our cars and then realized it was 1pm; and went in. We were very polite and after I waited 6-10 min once inside the trailer; I was beckoned and loudly asked: "what's your name!" I told her and in the small office everyone obviously heard. Then I got the 'third degree': You're not on this list, you don't have an appointment, etc ...,,,,,,,,,Then she loudly ordered me (and I served in the US Navy) to just take a picture on the door of our website! After that ordeal; I explained how I just made an appointment to correct the error DMV had made for GARAGE JURISDICTION; how I was told by the Commissioner of Revenue of Rappahannock Area via emails (professional and polite)to make appointment and visit KG DMV which I did; how I was a teacher and had today off only, my return move back to VA from another state, etc., etc, THEN!: SHE FORCEFULLY handed a paper to me. I asked where does it show jurisdiction and she just blatantly looked at me with a grim face and pointed to the bottom of my corrected registration. I looked and found it, then quickly ran from those evil people! *Not one employee got up to check over our names on the list where we wrote our names while we waited in our cars as told! I wanted to tell the DMV ladies in that trailer office: "I really am a human being and an adult. I don't mean to bother you and get my paperwork in order so that I am not taxed by the wrong jurisdiction and that KG DMV gets their personal property taxes and that I'm not fined hundreds upon hundreds of dollars$$$ for an error DMV made- PLEASE HELP ME the taxpayer???!!!!" I have to say when I first came in there it was a little busy but after getting my number things were actually moving pretty smoothly. The customer service was good and they were very helpful. I was in and out in less than an hour. I think that is a record for me in the DMV.

Another update: Somehow my car ended up being reported as sold even though I never sold it. Luckily…read moreit was caught before it became a bigger issue, but it's still pretty concerning. Had it not been caught, I could have been driving around with an invalid registration and not even know it until I got pulled over. I had to write a handwritten note stating that I did not sell my car in order to get it corrected. Now I find myself checking my registration from time to time just to make sure everything is still valid. That's not something anyone should have to worry about. Looking back, this just adds to the concerns I already had after my experience with the employee I mentioned in my original review. I didn't make an issue because i wanted to be done with it all but it was quite concerning.

This process should also include men. Men have name changes too. Now I have to pay for a copy of my marriage license in addition to a charge to get a license with the star* I feel that changes should be made to those guidelines. This isn't fair to females. DMV should give a discount when I reapply for a license to board an airplane.

They kept thanking me for my patience but they were the patient ones, having to deal with whatever tricky system issues they ran into. Props to them all! Automated check in for online appointments is very easy--you get a text reminder of your appointment when you make it online, you reply to that number with "check in" 15 minutes before your appointment, it texts you back with a ticket number, then you sit and wait til your ticket number comes up. The waiting area got quite cold as they had an industrial a/c running, so wear layers in summer/extreme heat times. The only recommendation I have is that it would be great to have some instructions posted next to the machine that you put your face/eyes on to take your eye test, both for how to do the test/use the machine and to sanitize it after each use. If the person instructing you isn't speaking loudly, it's hard to hear what you're supposed to do.

The customer service agent who helped me to get my 84 year old father his drivers license was knowledgeable, fast, and kind. We both left feeling accomplished without spending forever waiting.
