I did not have an appointment, but filled out my Real ID application ahead of time online. I brought in all of my required paperwork/proof of address and such... I was in line for check-in longer than I was waiting to see a clerk, but I was still in and out in exactly one hour! This is the best DMV location I've ever been to. I lived around the corner when I first moved to Virginia about ten years ago, so I've had to go to the DMV for a couple of different things over the years... at first I came to this location because it was closest, and now I live on the other side of town, but I still drive to this one because they're so efficient. read more

Overall, I had a decent experience at this DMV. I think it helped that we had an appointment and visited during low-peak hours. Our agent was super helpful and very professional. We visited for an in-car driving test and was pretty much in and out within 45-60 mins. Although this doesn't have anything to do with this particular DMV, but I was quite surprised that the in-car portion of our visit took less than 20 minutes (basically driving a couple of loops around the block). read more

Sloths move faster... First, the Appointment line. Unable to get an appointment online, tried many browsers, and many computers. Second, the Appointment line means that walk ins must wait until ALL the people in the Appointment line are served, When you finally get to the intake desk, the Lady there is completely clueless. I suggest the DMV print out the DMV statues, put them in a binder for reference, and then educate her on their definition and meaning Don't show up at the DMV until 4 -4:15, they will lock the doors at 4:20, so they can clear the Waiting Area out by 5 PM Amazing how fast these people move to clear the Waiting Area.. read more

Before I begin this review let me start off by saying that this review is based solely upon my personal experiences and my personal experiences alone, so with that being said let's go!!.. I walked in and immediately saw the signs that read walk-ins to the right and just as soon as my made the sharp right I was hit with a long line that wrapped around the pole!. The line was moving so it didn't take too long but long enough that if you had plans this was not the day for you!. But fortunately I had time on my hands!. The reason I was a walk-in was is I sold my 03 Honda Accord quickly, it was I had to take advantage before the opportunity slipped away! I didn't want to wait any long period of time so I took my plates in to DMV! They prorated the price for my decals I recently purchased in January so I got a few dollars back ( not much ) " BUT ITS MY MONEY AND I WANT IT NOW "!!.. This visit did not disappoint! I didn't have a reason to visit DMV until recently... renew my driver's license, but if I acted accordingly, I could have avoided this visit. Nevertheless, I waited until the last minute so here I am. My wait time wasn't long at all. I hear horror stories, but not today! I arrived about 4:15 pm and I was out the door by 4:45 pm. The line was a little long, but hey, I had time and patience so the lines didn't bother at all. I came in contact with the lady security guard on the premises and she was super polite and on point with everyone coming in the door. She directed persons here and there and kept everyone in order. Absolutely horrible. A place of misery, anger, and ridiculously slow employees. I recommend you avoid at all costs. I was one of the first people here in the morning and have been waiting for 4 hours and counting. I am watching every single person who arrived hours after me get helped whilst I sit here like a lost puppy. I am severely disappointed, I had hoped that maybe everyone was wrong about the dmv. [As of August 1] It's the start of the week and the DMV was a place dad and I needed to head to. We were both going in to renew our drivers licenses. As soon as be opened the second set of double doors to the establishment, we were already in line! You couldn't even walk to get IN line. You just were automatically IN it! My thought process about this would to rework the bollards that rope off the actual line. Do not make the line start from the reception desk and lead directly to the entrance of the of building. After waiting in line for about 10mins, I was able to grab a ticket and take a seat. This part of my adventure took a little more than 20mins to complete. When I finally got called forward, the attendant greeted me kindly as I did her. But the problem came when I thought I was done. I was told to finish up at the Voter's Registration desk. Ms. Phyllis explained to me that the document i was told to turn in was done incorrectly. I needed that attendant to redo it properly. To make a long story short, I really felt that the attendant could have better customer service with explaining the process. Even going a step further to obtaining help if she did not know exactly how to deal with my situation. She seemed to have a bit of attitude on top of that. The interaction was a bit callous. $53 was the cost for it. The funny thing, it was only about a 8min process. My time here for a simple process took about 30-40mins. Took my relative to this office to get a VA driver's license. The first trip was just to ask a few questions because we had a question about one of the forms. He just arrived in VA and is living with me until he can get on his feet. He has the promise of a job but he needs a VA drivers license so the prospective company can insure him to drive their vehicles. He doesn't have a receipt for a utility bill, rent, mortgage, etc because he is living with me. We talked to the information person who told me to create a lease agreement for him. I explained that he wasn't leasing he was simply staying with me so I couldn't do that. She, once again, recited the high spots of the list and, once again, I explained he didn't have any of those things and there must be some provision for people who don't. She then proceeded to tell me I could give him a lease agreement. Since I'm not a person who usually lies I said I couldn't do that. As we continued talking with her about this, and the copy of the post office change of address form we needed to produce, she looked at me and in an accusing voice said, "He could use a lease agreement but you refuse to give him one." Wait a minute! Then I thought slow down, maybe she was using that term in an unfamiliar way. I am a former landlord and having rented out an apartment for 18 years and, also, a house for 5 years of those years, I had executed many lease agreements and believe I know what lease agreements contain. But I asked what this agreement should contain and she said just my relative's name and that he was residing with me from a certain date to a certain date. My printer isn't currently functioning and I asked if it could be hand written on lined paper. She said that it could. So we left there and went to the post office to complete the change of address form, make a copy at the library and return it to the post office. Last night I created the "lease agreement" exactly as instructed and today we returned to this office with all the forms. The information person checked his paperwork and deemed him ready for the counter. Unfortunately, the problems were just starting. At the counter he was told they couldn't accept the copy of the change of address because it wasn't "stamped" by the post office. Then he was told they couldn't accept the letter I had written. What the heck? He explained what had been said previously by the information person but the attitude was - so what. We left this office and immediately went to the post office to ask why the change of address form hadn't been stamped. The postal clerk said, "I have told those people 50 times that we don't stamp those anymore." God help us! I guess I will have to lie and download a lease form and say he's leasing or he will NEVER get a drivers license so he can get a job. As far as the change of address form is concerned, we are simply going to another office. Hopefully, the staff there will be better trained and know that the post office stopped stamping those forms a long time ago. Duh! read more

I have been dreading going into the DMV for weeks. Imagine my surprise I was in and out within 10 minutes. All of the reps were friendly and helpful. My daughter was running around the whole time and no one was rude at all lol. I had to get a new license and turn in tags. This is the quickest and friendliest service I've gotten at this location. I've been to this DMV couple times in the past and things seem to always go very fast and smooth here. The first time I came was because I Sold my vehicle and had to turn in my plates. My most recent visit was to turn in some more plates because I bought some vanity ones. The woman at the desk took my plates and told me that was all. Easy Peasy! read more
