My husband and I frequent often and have been for years, however within the past 6 months or so the customer service has become unsatisfactory. Twice this month we were ignored at the register and the young girl at the counter had a bit of an attitude. It is unfortunate because we love supporting businesses in our home town but we will be taking our business elsewhere. read more

Teri at Smith's Acres provided flowers for our wedding, and it was great to work with her. She is very down-to-earth and willing to work within our budget, and she did an amazing job with our flowers. We got several boutonnieres and corsages, a flower crown, bouquets, and centerpiece flowers, and they looked beautiful and remained sturdy the whole night. Plus the greenery she included smelled magnificent. I would highly recommend working with her if you want flowers for an event. read more

This is a great place for pots.As a gardener,the prices and selection of flowers are not of interest to me.I prefer Clauson's and Lowes.Both are near-by and have an excellent selection and price. Their produce prices are high too. read more

We drive up to Niantic every month during Spring, Summer and early Fall to visit a young woman who is in York Prison in Niantic (about 3 miles from Smith's Acres). We buy most of our annuals there and some perennials. Our favorite annual is Torenia. What is absolutely wonderful is that the Torenia lasts and lasts up until it is time to fly back to Florida for the winter. Everyone at Smith's Acres is helpful and they know their plants! I brought a clipping from a perennial my mother had given me years ago, asking the name of the plant as we never knew. The woman I spoke to looked at it and immediately said: campanula ! We recently bought a "Live Forever" and a "Bluebeard" and both are doing very well. It is such a pleasure to visit this beautiful place. When I look out at our garden~I think of the young woman we have "adopted" now in her 21st year of incarceration and I hope that one day, I will be able to bring her to Smith's Acres in person. I have been a regular at Smith acres as I live in Niantic/east Lyme and have lived here for more than 10 years but this is the first time that I ever found myself in a situation where I was being chastised by a cashier. I happen to be on a business call as I tried to get there before they closed to grab some seedlings and some fresh vegetables and apparently the fact that I couldn't tell based on the confused state of the cashier that she was in fact done ringing up my order because she kept looking away and walking to the back and looking at her scale and at some point I said to the person I was on the phone with me hold on a second and she (the cashier) proceeded to give me a lecture on why I shouldn't be on the phone and in fact even went so far as to tell me "yes they can wait" or something to that effect. After she rang me up I made it clear to her that I had been a customer of Smith acres for many years but today was my last visit because her manner of dealing with the fact that I didn't realize she was finished was both rude and lecturing, and I can go to Home Depot or any number of other places to buy seedlings and not have to deal with that at all. We live in an age where people are doing many things at once especially when they're trying to get to an establishment before it closes. read more
