Seemed to be this town's place for family and friends to gather for dinner. What a lovely atmosphere. We had a young waiter eager to serve us. He shared the specials and tempted us with the sirloin and shrimp special. We each chose an appetizer.... To give them a shot. The catfish fingers were soo yummy, the fried mushrooms missed the mark just slightly.... The smaller ones were cooked through, the larger ones were not. ( totally understandable some were much larger than the others) The steaks were cooked to perfection! Just the way we asked! The shrimp were mouth watering! My baked loaded baked potato was so good. My dinner companion's sweet potato fries hit the spot! Did I mention the amazing side salad and veggies too. IT was more than we would eat. So we honestly had to get a take home box. Cause our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. He asked if we wanted dessert but honestly we were so full. But there will be a next time. To the point where when I stopped for the night the only food available on yelp was showing as all fast food. It didn't appear to be one single restaurant open in this little town that I drove around and stumbled across Pig out BBQ , which is literally a converted house where they're serving fantastic barbecue straight out the kitchen window. I had a brisket sandwich with some of their spicy barbecue sauce And a sweet tea with a side of cobbler. The only thing I wasn't knocked over by was the cobbler, but boy that brisket sandwich made up for everything! We stayed at the park recently and dined at Fairway Grill for several meals. We came away impressed, not that the restaurant serves great meals, rather that it provides good food in a place where expectations are pretty much at rock bottom. Buffets are the rule breakfast, lunch and dinner although there are items that may be ordered off the menu. The breakfast buffet includes what such buffets usually feature, only in this case the eggs were hot, and so were the biscuits and gravy. The bacon was crisp, sausages spicy, the coffee satisfying, and ... well, what else do you need? The lunch buffet included fried chicken and meat loaf and a bun ch of veggies, all pretty tasty and filling. For dinner, the buffet offered several meats and vegetables, surprisingly good, and some delicious desserts. The hot food came hot, and the salad bar, while very limited in choices, was also attractive and fresh. We were quite pleasantly surprised by all of this and wanted to spread the word. Again, please bear in mind we're not talking world class here, just simple, edible food decently prepared in a place where such is not anticipated.
