The store is good and the people who work there are very nice but the pharmacy is horrible. My prescription has never been ready when they told me it was so I have to walk around the store until they fill it (apparently they don't fill your prescription until you're actually there). My most recent visit was the worst. I arrived at 6PM and even though it's supposed to be open until 8PM the manager yelled at me through the glass and said they were closed. I tried calling after that to check to see if it was ready. The first two times no one answered, but on the third try the manager said my prescriptions would be ready that Thursday. I waited until Friday to be sure and went in and waited in line for more than a half-hour. When I got to the counter, the manager said they hadn't filled them yet, per usual, and to stand next to an end cap for a half hour and wait for them. A half hour later he gave me one prescription and said they couldn't fill the other because they couldn't get it. I'm reasonably sure he was lying as he's lied about everything else. Even though I get my groceries at Smith's, I'm getting my prescriptions filled elsewhere from here on. Spending hours trying to get a prescription filled and being lied to constantly by the pharmacist in the process would be self-abuse if I kept doing it. read more

My wife and I were in the area on business and stumbled upon Smiths. Originally, it was a sale on drinks that drew us in. We found other pretty good bargains and ended up doing the weekly shopping that day. Back east we were big Kroger fans so we were pleasantly surprised to find the next best thing. We think it's a pretty good store and plan on returning. We traded our Kroger rewards card for a Smith card (even though both will work at Smiths). This card really makes a huge difference in savings. We spent $87 with a total savings of $30.56. We asked for $40 cash back and eliminated a trip to the credit union. Then there's this: If you spend into the hundreds, you can knock a couple dimes per gallon off your fuel. Groceries are expensive and so is gasoline. It only makes cents to me (see what I did there). The building seems to be older and weathered. But, it's clean and important items such as the produce is of standard quality. They have an acceptable deli that meets our modest needs. If you're in the neighborhood I recommend you stop by and check it out and be sure to get yourself a rewards card. read more

As Gayle and I are new in town (or at least as residents vs. frequent visitors), finding a good grocery store was on the list. Back in the Bay Area, are choices were a combination of Safeway, Trader Joes, and Grocery Outlet. We're very familiar with the Carson City Trader Joes and we've yet to visit either of the 2 area Grocery Outlets. Gayle's Mom thought we should give this Smith's a try. We did, and for now, No. Our usual factors are selection, price, flow through the store (including shopping the perimeter) and check-out service. For the couple times we've been here, it's just OK and for now, not worth the drive. We all have our shopping quirks and right now our choice is the Carson Raley's. read more

As a grocery store, nothing special. It's fine. I wish they could figure out a way to shorten the wait at the pharmacy. The line regularly is at least 4-5 people deep, sometimes more. It's a LOT. When I get really upset is when I get the automated text that says my RX is ready only to find out it's not when I get there. Now that Rite-Aid closes it's gonna get worse. This area has a lot of seniors, so lots of prescriptions and it's really hard to stand there and wait so long. read more

As far as Smith's grocery stores go, this location here in Gardnerville is great. It's way better than the Carson City location. THis store is all clean and organized and the staff seem to know what they're doing. Smith's still requires you to have a shoppers membership to scan before you have access to all the deals they have. Raley's and Savemart don't hassel you with that. Deal they do have though, just watch the flyers every Wednesday. Some deals are really great, like sports drinks for .49 cents discounted from $1.00. I come here when they have good sales, just cause I'd rather drive here than go to the store in Carson. read more

Visited Smith's and was pleasantly surprised at the selection and some of the prices. In comparison to some other grocery stores I have frequented in other cities and states, Smith's located in Gardnerville is just okay. Price comparisons from other local grocery stores seem slightly higher here, but quality and cleanliness and flow are an essential part of this store. The one thing negative I encountered was in trying to use the recently downloaded app in store. The cellular reception in Gardnerville is quite horrendous and non existent in some areas in Gardnerville, and the transaction I tried accessing via the Smith's app was not fruitful at all, whether it was trying to locate items at the store or making payment at the self service kiosk upon finishing shopping. The app would not work as stated since no cellular service could be had inside. Horrible app usage and payment via phone experience. I do use electronic payments via phone or app instead of using any regular credit or debit card and in my experience around Gardnerville, they don't seem to embrace technology or internet availability as a priority when conducting business. Too bad, as the town seems to cater to older folks with no technology usage abilities and leaves the younger consumers to shop elsewhere. read more

Smith's Pharmacy is not able to fill prescriptions in a timely manner -- EVER. Prescription was called in by the doctor on September 19; not filled as of 9/25/23. Previously, heart meds were called in on September 13, not filled 2 days later. Prior to that, medications were called in on August 9, not filled 3 days later. I asked how long it takes to get a prescription filled and was told that they have hundreds to fill, and they can't get them all done. Additionally, some of the pharmacy staff are rude. read more

First off Iv never had an issue with smiths until today. The girl that bagged my groceries literally threw everything into the cart not even keeping it in the bags. (She had a weird name like civia or something like that) I asked her if she could not throw the groceries into the cart because she smooshed everything. As soon as I asked her to put the bread in the front so she didn't slam it into the cart with everything else she threw it up there, grabbed the rest of the bags and slammed them in the cart and walked away. I get you're a teenager and might have some drama going on in your life or hate your job but that is not the customers issue. The cashier (rebeca) said she would talk to her. I'd appreciate if that actually happened or work on customer service skills with your employees because that was ridiculous. read more

Been there many times. Good meat counter and deli, but service poor. Ordered 20lb turkey for Thanksgiving. Day before Thanksgiving told they did not get any large turkeys. I was told they could provide two fresh turkeys. When arrived to pick them up, only one Turkey. Spoke with "grocery pickup" who was a jerk. Never going back to Smiths. Smith's provides free WiFi which is good because cellular service in that area of Waterloo is very weak and at many times hard to get any service reception at all. Their isle's are kept clean and clear unless peeping Tom restock but that's with every store also too. They are good with having items replenished and employees are happy to check in back if you something is all out on the shelves. Cashiers are always friendly and quick to get you all checked out. Great effects and team work and good people too. The out side air in the area is for the most part really pleasant and never have I had a gust of funk past by ever unless it might come from another person crop dusting ahead of you and they too can be at any store anyone may go as well. (Be aware who creeps away slyly in front of you, or another. Some people have no shame or they just out to get a nice laugh for themselves like the famous "Women of Walmart" out there.) Not all women do this mostly old men do but if you ever want to get the sly slick & wickedly funky person back. Just say out loudly enough ( Ewe who just farted from here) for the people in the next isle over to hear and and to see who is trying to sly past through and as the other people may see that Sly one and say to them self that must be them and they make eye contact together then Ol' Sly just Blew their cover and will end up red in the face with hot fire coming from their back. So just be safe out there you'll. Smith's is a nice place to shop. Let's keep it clean and clear of Pink Eye Sly McFly and those people of Mayhem. read more

Every time I go there I see Managers , assistant managers,, supervisors just standing around doing nothing while there courtesy clerks , and cashiers do the work , the digital down load is bull shit there a poor signal in the store so I can't even use it they need to have everything in the ad for any one who has there store card not just digital coupon app they treat there courtesy clerks like crap the only one I see ever doing the carts cleaning around the store and bagging correctly is a courtesy clerk named Tim they have have better prices then the other super markets near them But they can't keep courtesy clears because how u see how higher up treats them read more

I enjoy shopping at Smiths. I find that their prices are reasonable and their sales are awesome. There are always employees willing to help you. I avoid the self check out unless I only have a few items. I like having someone check me out and I feel like if everyone was doing the self check out that would maybe eliminate a job or two. I have literally stood in line numerous times and have someone call to get another register open. I also love that with every dollar you spend you can earn discount at the gas pump. read more

I avoid this place as much as possible. The employees are openly treated like garbage by the incompetent management, and they always look miserable. You can tell when the management is bad at an establishment, by interacting with the staff, and almost everyone there acts defeated; with the exception of the change guy in the slot area. The management needs to get their act together, and at least treat their employees better, as they are a reflection of you! This place is not much better than Walmart with regards to employee morale. Additionally, every time I've gone in there, it's like the 1st of the month, as the store is filled with Medicaid/welfare recipient types, who have absolutely no manners whatsoever, allowing their 15 plus children to run around the aisles like animals. I'd rather pay more money and shop at Raleys, where I can at least browse around in peace, without feeling like I'm at a swap meet. read more

This is a horrible place to shop if your disabled. I asked an employee who was stocking if an item I needed was right in front of him. He told me 'he didn't know'. I said 'so move'. He did and every employee gave me a dirty look. I have a limited amount of time that I can stand and the motorized carts have such small baskets. They had no check stand open for regular orders. Only one for 15 items or less and self check out. my balance is horrible and maneuvering self check out is very difficult. I was given limited help and no empathy. This used to be an OK place to shop, even though the produce is horrible. I wonder if it changed management. read more

As most other reviewers mention, this place is a hit-or-miss but also a bargain shoppers fair-weather friend. Upon walking into the store the carts are to the left in the foyer; this poses as a traffic issue as per the exit door is directly in front of the cart area. I know Smiths cannot or will not do anything about that but the building planners didn't think that one through. As for customer service, most of the staff exudes obligatory friendliness. The deli could definitely use some different employees. But then again, at that pay grade I probably would be a disgruntled employee too. Some of the seafood in the butcher case comes from the frozen section. I have seen them literally go out onto the sales floor and grab frozen bags of shrimp for replenishment. This may pose as an issue for people who are seafood snobs. On the other hand, if you do the math, most of the time the exact same shrimp that came from the bag off the sales floor is cheaper when opened and bought from the seafood display case. I consider that a win. The floral section is not something to rave about but it sure beats Walmarts depressing selection. For around $14.00 you can put together a decent bouquet. As for produce, this place has a pretty good selection of seasonal fruits and vegetables at a decent price. The produce guys are friendly and they seem to keep up their zone pretty well. The bakery has some decent looking cakes for a kids party but honestly, I would probably go elsewhere to buy a special birthday cake. As for grocery (canned, boxed foods in center aisles) there's a lot of inconstancy with the food stock. Since where I live uses well water we buy drinking water. Almost every time I'm in the store the Kroger drinking water in the 2.5 gal dispenser is either completely gone or there's only one left. This isn't a life-altering issue but they should focus on their buying trends to ensure customers are able to leave the store with everything crossed off their list. In all, with the minimal store choices in town Raleys (too expensive), and Walmart (too child laborish) Smiths is the best choice in the area. read more

I was concerned about my health because Smith's pharmacy never contacted me to tell me that my blood pressure meds were approved after they had been declined four days earlier. I contacted Smith's on more than one occasion to tell them I was not receiving notifications from them. They told me to be sure to update my number, same number I have had for almost two decades. I have even picked up other prescriptions since, nothing about my blood pressure meds. I called to speak to them, of course upset about not having blood pressure meds. Misty, out right td me it was my own problem and to switch pharmacies, she wasnt going to fill mine any longer. I am of course going to contact corporate after I try to reach Chris the manager, even though misty assured me that she has been at Smith's for 17 years and she is not going to take care of my prescriptions any longer, because I complain es about their incompetence. read more

Large box store in a one horse town. Now I spend a lot of time in the area, mainly up the road in cal near kirkwood. But when I need to resupply when I'm camping or in the area I stop here for all my needs. The place is well stocked with beer, food, full grocer here, plus they have a needless item side for items you might need for a BBQ or the house. Some auto items also but most of all its a grocery. Prices are OK not too bad. They have a bank and as all stores, post offices, restrooms and schools in Nevada there's a few one arm bandits! When they run an ad on Meat (always be sure to check the Expiration Date)-most of their sale meet, (Including Chicken) is marked to expired within 2-3 days-some sale meat/chicken expires the next day. I have bought meat their several times and it spoiled if I did not cook it within 1-2 days. Sale meat and chicken should (Not) be meat/chicken that is so old it expires the next day-how is this a sale????They should at least give you a product that does not expire for at least a week. ****They do this same thing with Bread Products and more often than not on their boxed lettuce and vegetable products****Also their milk and dairy products. Overall the place is ok..but mostly cause the 2 better stores have higher prices. I walk RIGHT PAST the butcher area when that lady is there.. Twice she has waited on me and both time she was LOUD and rudely talking about other employees or customers She literally stood up on one side of the case leaned over opened her mouth wide and cackled then insulted whoever she was talking about, LOUDLY. When she finally stepped down to walk around to the front the other customers and I all gave each other ''that look". I also must say that she used the same gloves before during and after handling meat, cackling opening the door on the outside of the case (handle at child height). Then put together my seafood order.... AND was snippy about it. I gave my seafood order to the guy stocking the meat and shook my head and told him if he wasn't behind the counter ( he is very nice ) the I wouldn't be buying any seafood or meat. It would also be nice if the beer, wine and liquor had a selection fitting the new digs. read more

The pharmacists, (especially Marcy), along with the staff, are always helpful and pleasant. Our store has gotten so much better when compared to reviews from years ago. The staff is helpful and kind, it is always great to get a laugh when going through the checkout. The store is clean and well stocked. The items are inexpensive, and with the new gas station, i save money with my Smiths card and they have the cheapest gas prices in town. Great prices comparable to Walmart. Without the riffraff that comes with Walmart like employees and sometimes what Walmart attracts. This store is also better than the Carson city location. Every time I visit Smith's in Gardnerville, I find incorrect prices posted in the shelves. This happens primarily in produce. Yesterday one of the managers was stocking produce items. I noticed that packaged corn on the cob marked $1.98 was on a shelf marked 4 for a dollar. The manager said " oh I forgot to change the price ". I saw cantaloupe and the marked price was 2 for $5. When I checked out I was charged $ .79/lb. I questioned the price and was told the price is $ .79/lb. I went back to produce and verified that the marked price was 2 for $5. I found the same manager and showed him the price. He said " oh I'll change it ". Every time I visit this store I either find prices marked wrong or missing. Nevada should do the same as California, that is when the price at the cash register is different than the price on the shelf the item is FREE.. read more
