Sarah Lee, the bookkeeper, helped me prepay at the Smith's gas pump today and she was the kindest, sweetest, most helpful person I've come across for a really long time. She's the first person I've talked to today and I think it's a good reminder that every little interaction you have with someone can make a difference in their day you can't anticipate. Went in to find a very basic laundry supply item. Canned starch specifically. Web site said they have it. I searched high and low, up and down multiple isles, including the laundry supply isle. Couldn't find it. So go to the staff working up front and ask for help finding it. They all seemed to have no idea what I was talking about, even though I showed them on their own website. Then promptly told me to go look in the laundry isle as though I hadn't been intelligent enough to already have done that. Great service smiths read more

I love Smith's. I use them almost exclusively especially for the digital coupons, but you really have to watch them. Today was bad. First complaint : I found Orange Juice on sale for $2.02, and since it can be expensive, I grabbed one. When I got home, it was not in any of my bags. I didnt want to drive all the way back for $2. Second complaint : I consider this a lesson learned. I wanted a dessert for my birthday but not cake. I love the Marie Callendars cream pies but they were $7.99 with a coupon. I found some cheesecake bites for $5.99 so picked up a box and left. When I checked the receipt, it was charged at $11.99. The lesson, if you see similar items side by side, check the barcode to make sure they match. The cheesecake that was $5.99 was 4 slices in different flavours but they sat behind the $11.99 signage. The bites were sitting behind the $5.99. I never thought I'd have to check to make sure they had been set up where they belonged. I will from now on. All because I had called a prescription in on the automated system two days before I went to pick it up and the system dropped it. They told me to come back in two hours ( I live 50 miles away). My $80,000 in prescriptions are transferred as of today. read more

It's Smith's. You likely know what to expect. It's one of our lower priced grocery options in the area, but that comes at a cost: usually slightly dated to a bit dingy stores. I'm generally alright with that, though, because they usually have most everything I need, they are conveniently located, and customer service is at least good. This location, though, is not the best. Produce selection was very lacking, not just because it is much smaller (probably half the stock as compared to most other locations), but they were straight up completely out of items, and much of what they did have was questionable in freshness. The cashier provided me with excellent customer service at checkout, but not until after I'd become frustrated by the wait as they only had two actual cash registers open in conjunction with the slew of self check-outs on a Saturday. I know the self check-out is cheaper or whatever, but it's just such a pain if you're buying more than a couple things. I really hate it when stores rely on it as their main means of payment. read more

I ended up puking all across state lines from Utah to Denver Colorado. This is a rather small Smith I don't stop there frequently because of this fact. Isles are small, narrow and complicated to get a navigate through while other people are shopping. This definitely isn't the biggest grocery store around, the selection is quite limited- but they've made so many improvements in the past year or two it's amazing. Both in renovations & store set up. I wish they would stay open later, but I understand. I've had nothing but pleasant experiences with everybody that works there l, Obeid is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet! It's like cheers, you go into to the store & your recognized & always made to truly feel welcomed. ( For the exception of the man with a mohawk- supposedly a Manager- who really shouldn't be people facing-keep him in the back doing his paper work) this place has been phenomenal they treat you like you're their neighbor & your friends- and that is the reason I keep coming back here. thank you read more

The employees at this location care about doing a great job and they always are happy to help. A buy one get one meat special for example. There was only 1 package of steaks left and the guy in meat offered to slice some more for me and got them to me right away on a busy Saturday. Produce always fresh and they have a good variety! I do wish they would bring back the free piece of fruit for kids, that was a nice touch. I also always find amazing deals with the marked down items, which is so helpful feeding a family of 5 on a budget. They also have their sale items in stock, and on the shelves. read more

This store is horrible, never enough checkers no matter what day it is or what time, also nobody seems to care except one nice lady that was my checker, Randy forget it! He doesn't give a shit! I will not use the self check out nor should I have to if I don't want to. There is only one checker at most times, ridiculous and it is not clean the type of people that come in there are disgusting! I have to go there because other stores don't carry the juice I need and it is the closest to me. Please for hell sakes do something, none of us deserve this kind of horrible service! I put $20 of gas in my car to find out I was charged $125.50. When I called the store they basically offered no assistance and told me to call my bank. When I commented on their lack of concern the one who answered the phone and the front end manager laughed. I then drove to the gas pump to let the cashier know they should let others know that peoples information has been compromised and what pump I was using- he basically just said he would let his manager know. Really hope this isn't happening to others because the employees of smiths lack a serious amount of customer service or empathy for their system being compromised. The quality of the meat is lacking. Particularly the chicken, the taste of the meat is very unpleasant, the chicken has a chemical fish taste, not to mention the whole chickens have very green meat in the main body of the bird, due to poor farming practices of the birds, oversized breast meat cannot get adequate circulation and in turn changes to a grainy texture and green color. I will no longer be buying any type of meat from any smith locations. The poor farming practices and mass produced abuse of animals such as chickens truly shows in the taste of the meat. Stop advertising simple truth products as anything other than run of the mill mass produced abused chickens, because that's what it is. If you read this stop buying smith meat and demand higher standards and quality. read more

This is one of the most ghetto Smith's there are. Growing up here in the Avenues, the downtown & Aves locations are always so CLEAN, NICE, & HELPFUL! This review is for a specific experience however. I came back to SLC to visit my mom & had to fun to a quick grocery store because a noodle thing she bought at Smiths had a recall. She also bought protein bars that were expired welllllll over a year ago. So I show up at 8:42 am. There's a guy at the guest services desk. He immediately tells me that I'll have to wait until 9 am until I get some help. I'm in shock. He didn't even ask what I needed. So he walks away and I follow him to proceed to TELL him that this item had a recall & that I just purchased protein bars nearly 2 years expired from his store. He tells me to go get another one off the shelf and that's it. At this point I'm already irritated. I get they're closed until 9 am, but I'm already here & just needed very quick help. I head to the aisle to grab another box of the Nature Valley protein bars. Aaaannnndddd it's expired (see posted picture). #fail read more

The times that I do visit are due to specials they advertise in the paper, but when I get to the store, a lot of the stuff is out! It's a Smiths, so it's pretty solid to begin with. However, as Smith's go, this one is pretty sub-par. The aisles are tight and there were carts, trolleys, racks, bins and boxes everywhere, making it feel claustrophobic. There was also a line for the service desk about 8 people deep, which isn't a good sign. Same lousy donuts as every other Smiths. Come on! You bake a pretty mean loaf of bread, what's up with the nuts of dough? read more

If it weren't for the fuel pumps, I'd seriously never go here at all, but the fuel pumps have been convenient a good bit lately. One interesting thing about them that I've yet to see anywhere else at a Smith's pump is the ability to add additives, just in case, you know, gas isn't quite expensive enough for you... That aside, it's a nifty enough idea that when I saw it, I wondered why someone else hadn't thought of it first. Here you have varying levels to mess with your onboard car computer that controls most of that and potentially have your car run rocky, but you can also just go buy a can of that at Wal-Mart for less than even the cheapest stuff here. This is my closest store, although I have used a couple others in the general area depending on needs. The bakery is fine, and the fried chicken is good. I haven't tried the rest of the deli yet. Produce is usually good, but the pre mixed salad can be bad, so check that carefully. Sales can be awesome, and the staff are helpful and friendly. I recently used the online shopping for home delivery out of this Smith's and it was a superb service. read more

Despite being the closest grocery store to my home, I come here as little as possible. The store is old and not kept particularly clean. The vast majority of the employees are curt and unhappy, and the customers become that way upon entering. Luckily, if I want something from Smith's, I can shop the Draper store since I'm there weekly. read more

I have always shopped at Smith's. It's my store, always has been. I bounce around the valley a lot, no matter where I land though, I look for where my Smith's is. I even opened an account at US Bank just so I could bank where I shop. The app is awesome, the prices are fair, the produce has always been fresh. My only gripe (in general) is that the stores, some of them, could be cleaner and updated. This Smith's though.. hell NO! This Smith's is ghetto and so beyond subpar! The Smith's off of 3900 s Redwood Rd. has me changing my mind. This store, it's floors, it's counters, oh Gawd the restrooms are filthy. To the point that I do not trust what happens behind the scene in the Bakery, produce, and the Meat department, have me fearing its not even sanitary. I'm not talking 1 or 2 times. It's always gross. I will say, the employees are friendly and helpful, huge plus. With the exception of the girl working the customer service counter yesterday 5/24 (the younger one). Not only was I ignored when she seemed ready, she was rude and acted as if she was Inconvenienced to help me. Then, when another woman walked up from the side to ask, what I assumed would be a quick question, she stopped helping and moved over to hell her. No explanation, no appology, no "just one sec.", just stopped helping me. Honestly, I felt several times that if I didn't speak Spanish I was just a bother . We all get stressed but don't take it out on me. But, seriously.. clean it up or you will lose a life long customer. Also, the layout could use some help. I shop here on my way to work on mondays. I usually hit the frozen food section mark downs and then look around the corner to see if the mark down carts are full. They also have bins in the front right as you enter full of deals. On two separate occassions i have been in here and found screaming deals on chia seed drinks and cold pressed juices and that was totally fabulous.i happily lugged 8 or 9 drinks down to work. The only downside to this is their deli totally stinks and they are not customer focused every visit i have stood there and waited and waited left and came back and waited some more without ever getting a be with you in a minute or hang on i'll be right there...they also do not sell sushi which kinda makes me mad. read more

We recently moved closer to this location so we shopped here last weekend. We were very disappointed that a bunch of items we always buy at the smiths on 21st are not available here. They don't have sliced packaged deli meat and don't have a butcher counter! What!!?? How does a grocery store not have a butcher counter!!?? Some of the dairy products were about to expire too.
