Location: near downtown Parking: lots of free parking Ambiance: local neighborhood supermarket vibe Service: helpful and friendly Food: fresh looking produce, well stocked shelves despite the holiday season.

I frequent this Smiths about 5-6 times a week...sometimes more if I forget an ingredient for dinner. (I live in the neighborhood, so no judgements, okay?) A few pros: Smith's has a great discount meat section- 2 lb ribeyes for $8 a pop or other great deals. And an easy one stop miscellaneous discount area by the Customer Service counter. It's really nice of them to put all their severely discounted products in one table so you can pick up that half off Brita filter you've been meaning to buy for a few weeks now...or months (look, we agreed, this is a no judgement zone!) It's also relatively clean and festive but that's a given considering this is a grocery store. Another pro: A liquor store is just right below next to a nail salon. Only one con which is: No security. There are panhandlers that like to loiter about which is fine but on occasion, when I am walking out the doors with my arms full of groceries, I have been followed by a couple of guys who say I clearly have enough and should share. This is not ideal. To be honest, it's a little frightening. I wish they would have security for these situations. Since there isn't, just bring a rape whistle/boy/dog with you and I'm sure it'll help.

Smaller selection that most Smiths. Service is good but can be hit and miss. The little dining area offers a view of the parking lot which is useful when waiting for people, but it's pretty filthy top to bottom. Tends to be more expensive than other Smiths. Great location for residents of the Aves, but the Smiths on 5th and 5th is my go-to for bigger shopping trips.

A constant flow of wonderful , help, smiling employees and the best seasonal chili anywhere. The employee created artwork and over a period of time, getting to know the " regular " staff adds to the fun and positive experience. BUT sadly about 5 months ago as I was checking out of course talking with one of many cashiers that I know, as I headed out the door, 2 managers I believe stopped me and told me that I wasn't welcomed at this Trader Joe's location. What ? Apparently one of employees said " I made them uncomfortable " Seriously ? For years, I have always lived with kindness, always saying hello and and maybe engaging in conversation if appropriate. Nothing else was exchanged as they followed me out the door. Deeply hurt and candidly upset. But the seasonal chili will be arriving soon this fall. I still love the Trader Joe's experience and staff

I had a cheese tasting at the farmers market and seeing the space they make the cheese was impressive. Cookie from Alaska, Olympia provisions from Oregon at same prices as Oregon was a surprise! The sandwiches are so so so good. Sadly my kid couldn't eat his but I enjoyed my half very very much. They are kind enough to adjust for nut allergies and cut in half and wrap separately so I could drop off for his camp. I can't remember the drink I got from the fridge but it was blood orange and perfect for a hot day. And the amazing chocolate chip cookie. Wow. Just the right Amt of salt I got pasta and truffles to enjoy at home

I knew it had farro on it, so I ordered the farro salad. When they called my name and I checked my salad, I noticed it was definitely not the same as the one I had ordered last time, so I approached the employee who was at the counter that called out orders. Female, short-light brown hair, wavy curls. I told her the last time I came there were lots of vegetables and she gave me this dumbfounded look and said, "that's a Greek salad", which I knew wasn't right either because a Greek salad doesn't have farro. I just asked if I could add the vegetables to my farro salad and she continued to look at me annoyed then looked behind her at who may have been the manager? She had long-dark brown hair just below her shoulders. Bangs and it was pulled back in a low ponytail. Fair skin and a great smile. The energy immediately shifted when she arrived and she happily offered to add "Greek vegetables" for me. Walked it out to me when she was done adding them. She alone helped salvage that second experience. Bravo. After I had time after work, I went over the menu more carefully and I found the salad I was so impressed with on my first visit. It's called SALAD TRIO. It's an offering of all 3 of their individual salads combined into one amazing salad. Farro, Greek, and Tuna atop an ample amount of Arugula and your choice of dressing. So good! Their sea salt chocolate chip cookies are also delicious. It's quite a spacious market. They have dining on one side where you can order their salads, sandwiches, and merch. The market is on another side that offers cheese, deli meats, oil/vinegar, and so much more. Lunch gets busy here, but it's well worth a visit.

They don't have a deli, no fresh food, and only a baby little freezer case. They did offer a few refrigerated cakes, a vast variety of Milka chocolate bars, one prepackaged halva, and a candy I have searched for for years called KiKi that is like a way better starburst. So they've got the sweets selection on lockdown, especially considering the space available. With that said, I missed the ubiquitous bulk chocolates most Eastern European markets offer. Additionally, they had many pickles, honey, jam, and other sweet spreads, some baking supplies, and a lot of drinks. Also a myriad of foreign magazines. Instead of a grocery, it reminded me more of a convenience store. I nearly left empty handed, but couldn't resist some beans labeled grah źućko (I have a weird soft spot for unusual dried beans, and can't say no whenever I find 'em!). From what I can tell, grah means bean, so zucko must be the variety, but I couldn't find any information about it online. Anyways, I took them home and cobbled together a sort of ham and bean soup situation, and they turned out great-with a firm exterior but tender insides, even with minimal pre-soaking. So that tells me they are very fresh. Hurrah! Prices are quite reasonable, and while service was brusque, I think that was due more to a language barrier than anything else. It's located right off Redwood Road, so easy to find (remember it's teeny-just look for the shop on the Southern corner of the shopping center). Parking spaces were plentiful. If this were the closest option I'd probably frequent it once a month or so, but as I live closer to Salt Lake, and there are several larger stores nearer, I will likely not return. Except maybe to get more KiKi candy!
