This is more toward the communication or lack of between office, who you talk with and who actually comes out for Smith Tree Service. We had two small trees taken down and a large limb off another tree and some dead wood In Hampton. The crew didn't pay much attention to surrounding plants and damaged some, they could do better. They also were to grind stumps, which was sorta done. The person that came out to look at the stumps to be ground stated the small stump grinding machine would be used so not to destroy the surrounding area and plants. The roots that were around stumps would be done as well. Also, we were told the grinding debris would be cleaned up and taken away. This is what we ended up with for the stump grinding. A large stump grinder was brought to the job, one operated by remote, not the small unit, the grinder tore the yard up in several places and the borders around the area. The stump in one area were pretty much ground down but the roots around the actual stump, still there and damaged plants. The other stump, about 1/3 taken down. The debris, about a trash can load was taken away, but we have hauled away 5 wheelbarrow of debris that was thrown in the holes or mixed into the mulch. When we contacted the office with a picture of the grinder and asked if this is what they consider a small grinder we were told no, this was the best grinder for our job. Not sure how the person sitting in an office knows what is best when their representative STANDING in your yard looking at what needs to be done states what will be used and how. If you need trees removed, get plenty of estimates and details of how and what the process entails. If you need stumps removed, call around, just skip Smith's Tree Service for that work, just not worth what happens or doesn't happen. read more

I typically do not submit reviews, however some from this company came All the way to Suffolk and claimed that we had an appointment with them. I info the person that was was untrue and deceptive. I don't know what kind of games they are playing I have signs stating that I do not allow solicitation. That's a red flag! Consumer Be aware!!!!! read more

i dont know if they do good work or not, but i do know they really over charge for their work. have 4 companies give a quote to remove a tree and compared to others were grossly over priced. they wanted 8 thousand to remove just one tree!!!!!!!! when everyone else is charging 4000 or less, so i would definitely not recommend them. i can understand making a profit but that pricing is really ridiculous read more

Had a 9 am appointment for the estimate and they were late. They did not make it on the scheduled day for the service. I had to be at work the day they showed up. They let the limbs hit my gutters and it ripped down my patio lights and broke some bulbs. They also hit my water hose reel and broke the handle off. They also damaged the tree that was being trimmed. read more

I am not sure the crew they have in Newport News but the level of professionality and bullshit I have had to deal with over an important part of my yard....wow. Southside crew I guess, or a mix. IDK. I'm in Ocean View . The owner Dave will not return my calls, from the crew he is a drunk. . I am being brushed off by the secretary. I think I wrote her name as Beth. My daughter is in recovery, those men were either high, drunk or jackerd up. on that awful opioid stuff. They stole my lawn furniture. Demand a drug screening before you ever let those employee's on your property. read more

1 star because I can't post zero stars. Picture says it all. Crew apparently allowed large branch to drop on the driveway leaving two large cracks, and did not say one word to me before leaving. Also, their bucket truck leaked oil on the driveway. Recommend choosing another tree company before contracting with this one. read more

One star because I can't give 0. My neighbor hired this company to cut down some trees and grind stumps. When they first came out to cut the trees down a huge limb hit my satellite dish and moved it off the post so we had to go 16 days without tv before it was fixed and pay $150 service call. They came out today to grind the stumps and cut my satellite cord in half. They also backed a dump truck and trailer into my driveway and ran over and smashed my brick pavers. When my husband pulled up, the guy (who says he is the owner) immediately had an attitude and said it wasn't his fault. He screamed and yelled at my husband like it was our fault he cut the line. He continued to argue with my husband in front of my poor neighbor who was very upset about the situation. She has spent over $10,000 with this company and this is how they act. After he was done yelling and left my neighbor walked around and found huge logs they threw behind her privacy fence instead of taking care of it like they were supposed to. I would not recommend this company solely based off of not owning up to your mistakes as an "owner" of the company. He was very unprofessional. If anyone should be mad it should be us. read more

I've been shopping around to get my pine tree cut down. Smith's tree service was the most reasonable one that I found. They were highly recommended by my parents. Their customer service is outstanding from not only the ladies that answer the phone, but also the guys that come out to do the work. I could not be any happier. I called Smith's Tree Care several years ago and set up an appointment for them to come out and remove a tree & grind the stump. I made the appointment with their receptionist and nobody ever showed up or bothered to call me back! Well, I thought I'd give them another chance since they always advertise on t.v. how great their service is! I called them again this past week and had an appointment set up for Tuesday July 2, 2019 @ 2:00 pm for them to come out & give me an estimate. Guess what! No phone calls to say they couldn't make it & nobody showed up at all! I have had it with Smith's Tree Care & will never call, use their service & will tell everyone I come across how terrible their service really is. I don't know if I can explain how good these guys were. When I got home, you couldn't tell they were even there except for the fact that the tree I wanted was gone and a stump was left. After being home a few minutes the stump guy came out with a remote stump grinder and took care of the rest. Amazing job at a very fair price. Fairly decent company. They were a bit rough on my understory plants (the azaleas) that were growing underneath the tree they cut for me, otherwise I would have given them five starts. They broke some branches of the azaleas. But the trees are gone and the trimmed another one, just a good average job. I would definitively allow them to bid on my next tree job. read more

Great customer service! Emailed them, they called the next day and scheduled an estimate visit, then called gave a price which was very fair and reasonable. Scheduled the removal and was extremely pleased with the crew being on time, professional and courteous. Took only a couple of hours to remove our 35 ft pear tree and the clean up was amazing.
