Not sure what some of the comments are referring to, my experience was very professional and fast. Keep in mind, this is only a smog place, they don't offer any type of repairs or diagnostics, maybe that's what people don't understand? The service I got from this older gentleman that couldn't talk because of a disability was truly great. I was in and out in under 20 minutes and everything including the price seemed fair to me. The car passed the smog, and I was on my way but I had read some of the negative reviews on here before coming and almost didn't come because e of them. I'm glad I ignored then and decided to judge for myself. Afterall it was just a smog check, it wasn't anything serious like mechanical work or anything like that. If you know your car has problems passing, then maybe don't come here, go to a place that is a repair shop and also does smog checks? Just a thought. read more

I'm a fan of a business whose name is in its title. As it says Smog Check Only. I've taken my cars here for years to do smog checks. I always go right when they open on a Saturday and am in and out in like no time flat. They take credit card, you just fill out the paperwork. They get to work and they records get sent to the DMV for you. Seriously not much else you can ask for. Only tip is that this is behind the store fronts in the center so just drive around the back and it's in the corner. There's also another auto repair place, so try not to get confused. This is a singular garage in the corner and there's a place to sit while you wait. read more

They seem to me to be more knowledgeable about the smog check process than most. When something must be fixed, they give clear and precise instructions on what to do. They may lack some frills, but if your goal is to go there, get the certificate or the info needed on what is blocking the certificate, and get out quickly, they are great. I was in and out of this place when I came in the morning during the week. There were several customers coming in for service while I was there and the older gentleman running this place was great. He was the only one there and really juggled and handled everything so efficiently. He does not speak, but that did not affect my experience whatsoever. I went to the shop on Saturday morning and arrived 15 minutes prior to the shops operating hours. Gary the owner didn't make me wait and completed the certification in about 15 minutes. We have been going to the shop for over 10 years and Gary the owner in the past few years has been challenged with his speaking abilities. NOTE: Do not take your vehicle here, especially any older vehicle. I have been coming to this business for the past 8 years for all 4 of my vehicles (2 newer cars and 2 antique 70's/80's vehicles). It was convenient because they never require an appointment and have established trust and confidence in this business over the past several years. As a side note, the older gentlemen who used to run the place does not appear to operate it any longer which may explain what occurred today. Unfortunately, today (about 3:20pm) I had a much different experience. After arriving with an older 1980s vehicle with only 36,000 original miles, only one vehicle was parked in the service bay leaving the other service bay open. After asking the employee if I could park the vehicle near the open bay, he replied, you need to come back tomorrow morning at 8am. I told him I had just driven from Oxnard . He then stated that "these old vehicles take 30-45 minutes and I have three customers arriving soon." He then stated, "this is a re-check, right?" I explained to him that it was not and that it always passes smog. He then said something to the effect of don't come on a Saturday and don't come by during lunch reminding me to come by first thing in the morning. Needless to say, I was so disappointed after being such a loyal customer for 8 years and referring others. A friend of mine called him after 4pm regarding his 2015 Honda Accord, and the employee said, "bring it on in, there are no customers here; it's completely empty." Well, there went my trust after realizing that he likely made up a story about all these vehicles coming in before 5pm. It may not have been a big deal to the employee to turn down a long-time loyal customer, but it was a big deal to me and I plan on telling others about this unfortunate experience. I recommend Smogie's Smog Shop at 3940 Market St Ventura who I visited at 4:45pm and helped me without any hesitation. They even complimented me on my car :). What a difference in service! read more

New to area looking for a good place to get a Smog Check. After reading many reviews I pick these guys. I like Smog Check places that only do smog. There is auto repair and smog literally 50 feet away. When you go don't get confuse and go there. It's the same address, different unit number. I drove up with no appointment and drove right in. I waited only a few minutes ( maybe 10 minutes) and he was done. I paid and left. It could not have been any easier. With Covid instead of waiting in the waiting area which was an OK area, it was a nice day and just walked around outside until he called me over. Regarding one of the bad reviews. If you replace your battery or reset your codes you do have to drive your car for a while for the computer to do all the smog diagnostics. If the status is not ready, all smog places will charge you for the test and say, go drive around and come back for "free". This happened to me 4 years ago somewhere else. For me I had reset a code because I replaced a bad temp sensor. I have the tester (can buy on Amazon) that tells you when all the tests pass. I had all pass except one (Air). I stopped by yesterday and asked these guys how I had to drive to pass this test. They explained. I did that and was back today with all tests in the ready state. I thanked them for this info which I could not find on the Internet. By the way when any smog person will say if your car is not ready to go drive x miles. The truth is, if you know exactly how to drive, you can pass all but the Air one in 20 miles and like 30 minutes of driving. Then you have to start you car when it has sat overnight like three times and you are good. There are write-ups on the Internet of the steps (except the morning start one). Without the tester it is hard to know when you are done. Sooo that is why the smog guys say to drive 100 miles or 200 miles or one person online said they were told to drive 3,000 miles. The thought is the longer you drive the better chance you have done the handful of things the car is looking for. By the way what you then realize is the car is doing its own smog test. All the guys are really doing is looking at your engine to make sure you haven't removed any smog components, reading the status from the car and then sending it to the DMV. About the time the car could just send the data itself to the DMV all cars will be electric. If your car is older than like 2000, they actual do a smog test with that expensive equipment they had to buy. read more

This place is a scam. I have a Toyota Camry, never had an emissions problem. They said my car was not ready but for a fee they could get it ready. I was told $50 at first, then $95 with the new problem, but then after the fact it was $145, then they only ran my card for $140. Feeling uneasy, I asked another place and they asked if my battery had recently died. And yes, just the day before had we replaced it. They said I need 3000 miles of data to pass emissions and there's no legitimate way around it. So I don't know what this shop supposedly did for an extra $100. I should have walked away. read more

While in line to get smog check on my RV my engine light and a warning that said "Check Gauges " came on. I figured it would not pass with the engine light on so was ready to leave, but the workers said to get it tested anyway, that it might pass, and it is up to the machine. If course, it failed. But they charged me 89.00. I highly recommend R & K smog. They are more knowledgeable and did a good job getting it passed. Cheaper too! They had knowledge at R &K that totally helped us. These guys did the same thing with my other truck. Engine light on, tested it anyway and failed. Charged me anyway. read more

I won't come back to this business and wouldn't recommend them. First attempt I was there 30 minutes while he tried to smog test my vehicle on two different test systems. He claimed my vehicle was causing his computer problems so I could wait for the system to recalibrate or come back in the morning. Next morning was my second attempt, I called ahead and he said to come by. Once again I noticed that he was having trouble as he attempted the smog test on my vehicle twice. Again he blames my vehicle for his system crash problems. He said I could wait for the computer to reset and he would try a third time. Already 40 minutes of my time wasted I said no thanks and left. I went to Smogsters off of Adolfo Rd. and in about 15 minutes my vehicle was smogged. read more
