Dmv finally requested my car in for "smog". Having used RK years ago I gave them a call. I wasn't sure if I was going to need to make an appointment, but they had told me to come on down. Less than 40 minutes. In and out! value of this was amazing. Cost was extremely fair. I was just in for a quick smog check, but apparently they are available for other services. I've been using RK Smog for years. Very good service and they don't try to pressure you for unnecessary repairs.

At first they were very helpful, finding a replacement catalytic converter that would work for my old 99 4Runner. They had to contact the smog referee for me and get it approved since the OEM one was discontinued. I was really grateful for their work on this. However after it was installed and after I paid them I asked if I could get my old catalytic converter back, they are very expensive and you can ask for it back to sell it to help offset the cost of the new one. After that they became rude whenever I called and it's been months and I still haven't gotten a call to let me know I could pick up my catalytic converter. Also, they are supposed to get an email from the smog referee that tells me how/when I can get the sticker that approves the aftermarket catalytic converter for my car. I've called many time and heard nothing because one of the guys is always "out". I feel scared I won't pass smog in the future now if I can't get that sticker. Pretty bummed because these guys seemed helpful at first. Also this shop is supposed to be a STAR station, I was hoping I could trust that but at this point I don't think so read more

My smog check was quick and easy, but there were a few minor negatives. It started with a couple of unanswered phone calls: I called RK Smog Service at 8:00 am, their opening time. There was no answer and eventually the call just ended. I called again and had same result. 10 minutes later, I called a third time and this time someone answered. I asked to make an appointment for a smog check. The person on the line said they don't make appointments, and they only work on a first come, first serve basis. So I asked what's a good time to come in, when it's less busy. The person said it's always busy and there's already 2 cars waiting. But he said maybe between 2:00 and 3:00 pm might be less busy. So, I drove in at 2:15 pm and by 2:35 I was driving out with smog certification in hand. The whole process took only 20 minutes. When I arrived, there was one customer finishing up his paperwork. Although my wife and I had both taken our cars there several years ago, the mechanic, Samuel, could not find our information in his computer system. It only took a couple minutes for him to input my information. Sam was pleasant and seemed like a good quality person. The waiting area and the facility itself were old, not in good condition, tight on space, and barely adequate. The cost for the smog test was $46.75 plus $8.25 for the smog certificate. The total was $55. I think it's a good value, considering the quality of the smog service and the person doing it. You may be able to find a cheaper price elsewhere, but it would be difficult to find a smog service with a high customer rating like RK Smog. When I checked yesterday, RK's Yelp rating was 4.8 and Google's rating was 4.9, with a good number of customer ratings and reviews. Here's a summary of my review: The smog check process was quick and easy, the smog inspection service was good, the mechanic was pleasant and seemed honest, other customers rate this service very highly, and the price was a good value. The negatives are: Poor phone service, no appointments available, incomplete customer records in database, and barely adequate facility. That said, I think the positives definitely outweigh the negatives. Overall, I am pleased with RK Smog Service and I give them a positive recommendation. read more

I've bought a couple vehicles here now. One of them an old Chevy nova, a 2013 Mazda, and a 2015 Silverado. I think the only thing I find to be a bit offputting is the location. It's kind of tucked back behind an RV area for repair and the Amazon center. There's not a lot of great parking but at the end of the day you're just getting your car smog. It does get the job done. The prices were a little bit medium too high, but when I did have problems with one of my vehicles, they let me fix the problem and bring it back free of charge. That kind of customer service matters to me even if it's only a smog shop. read more

Terrible and bizarre experience with them. My car stopped running and after a few unsuccessful attempts to fix it myself I decided to take it to them. I know them and have dealt with them for many years and they had been good. They told me it would cost $125 to diagnose and tell me what is wrong which I agreed to. They came back after 2 days and said it needs a new timing chain and it would cost $1,970. I thought that was excessive plus that diagnosis didn't make sense to me from my experience so I told them I want to get a 2nd opinion. I checked around and 3 other places quoted me 1/2 of that price. I discussed that with RK smog and told them I want to pick up my vehicle and pay them for the diagnosis. When I did they said it would cost $275. I disagreed because we already agreed on $125. Sam the owner then told me to never come back. I was shocked and couldn't believe he would say that to a long time customer. I took it to KG performance and within 2 hours they fixed the vehicle and said it was a simple case of the firing order being wrong on the distributor cap (my mistake from when I was trying to fix it) They simply changed the position of a few of the wires on the distributor and it is now running fine. They also checked and said there is nothing wrong with the timing chain. How in the world could RK smog not see that? Verifying the timing is correct would be the first thing any competent mechanic would check. So the bottom line is RK smog is either grossly incompetent or they are very dishonest. read more

I first tried R K a few months ago when I was due for a smog test. I saw the reviews and decided to try it out. I waited in the office and things were done quickly so I decided to try them out again when my car was due for service. When I made the appointment a few days ago the woman answering the phone couldn't give me a quote for 125K service, didn't even offer to get an answer and just told me I'd have to find out when I got here. I figured it wouldn't be too bad and that I'd prefer to support a Mom & Pop shop instead of a pricey corporation. When I came in it turned out I was due for 115K service - just an oil change and tire rotation. I asked them to also check out 2 more things, of which no repairs ended up being required. I ended up paying over $80 for just an oil change. More than I was expecting to pay. I'm guessing half of it was for the "labor" of the things that I asked to be checked. When I had my smog check done, the owner assured me that they do all kinds of other services and that they could also shuttle me back home. Well this morning, they shuttled me back - in my own car, which I really don't think of as acceptable. Steve is the person who helped me out today and was very nice, but when I found out my car was ready, he asked if there was any way that I could get my own ride back because they were busy. Uhhh. No. He ended up picking me up. Again in my own car. Steve was nice, but the whole system seemed disorganized (not his fault). Seems to me if you can't truly give a customer a ride to and from the shop, then the owners shouldn't claim it's an option. Furthermore, my car was done at 12pm and nobody bothered to call me - I called at 3pm to check, assuming some of those things I asked to be checked would take longer, and it turned out they forgot to call me. Not cool. I REALLY don't appreciate the fact that nobody called me, I was stuck at home without a car and a ton of errands to run. Steve apologized on behalf of the woman (I believe one of the owners) for not calling me but for that much of an inconvenience, an apology just isn't enough. read more
