I was amazed! When the guy told me it would be 20-30 minutes, I thought yeeaahh right.. it was quick and I passed! The previous time was my first time, and it didn't pass, and I had to make repairs (which I did myself, then it did pass). It took many hours.. this time another patron told me their rating dropped and they are working on building it back, and full credit for that! I was in and out and happily surprised! Another thing my check engine light was on this morning, I am diagnosing an electrical gremlin, for which I wiggle certain wires and then it runs normally. Anyways my mechanic let me know 1996 was the first year smog can tell if your check engine light has recently been on and fail you. So from 75-95 as long as it's not on now, you're good to go. read more

I went in to get smog. It failed based on check engine light. Had it fixed but took weeks to do so then I had to drive it to reset the cycle. I took it back for retest because they told me it would be fine and only charge me $10. Came back and they wanted full price. Not unreasonable but they had a poor attitude and subpar communication. I am impressed and elated because my 2001 Toyota Sienna van got diagnosed, repaired and passed Smog. This may seem trivial...it's not. I had been working to smog my car since 4/2023. The Drive Cycles were not completed to make engine ready for smog. I needed a diagnoses on the CAT INC and a p0420 code. Fidelity replaced sensors/plugs for a smog in 2021. With CAT INC Fidelity recommended taking it to Toyota Dealership to diagnose CAT INC/p0420 codes. They were not offering to diagnose the van. I drove my car to Lloyds Midtown in SV. I paid $190 to diagnose the CAT INC code. The front desk and Smog technician recommended that I do a Fuel Induction service. They said that it helps sometimes to pass smog. I was charged $469 after the induction service failed. The final diagnosis was to replace the CAT. They said that the work order was completed/done. They said that Lloyds cannot buy me a CAT (discontinued). I'm resolving this misfortune as we speak. I was having a nightmare since the smog failure in 4/2023. I repeatedly drove with a code reader while running various drive cycles repeatedly to try to complete them for SMOG. Some mechanics gave me the advice to drive 1,000 miles. I put unnecessary mileage on my car while continuously filling up the gas tank. The police pulled me over to write me a ticket (no 2024 sticker). I got tickets parking with my permit in SC, where I live. I rarely drive and I was faced with these costs to fix the ???? and get a SMOG. I use my van to transport handicapped folks to happy places. It's my baby........... I decided that I would keep trying. ] FARDAD ------SMOG PLUS SERVICE- I was given the old parts without asking. I was given the old 02 sensor and the bolts that had to be cut off carefully to remove the sensor(not a painless operation===real work) I dig that! I will continue to ask for parts from now on. The shop replaced the o2 sensor, ran drive cycles then got the 2001 Toyota Sienna van the smog Certification required by the STATE of California to operate the vehicle legally. It was my happiest day since April 2023. I felt like I won the lottery or something impossible to WIN! Prior to that Friday on 10/20/2023, I felt helpless, hopeless, pissed then ready to give up and get a bus pass. I had no idea how much stress it was causing me for 6 months. PHEW -Thought I was gonna have to give the state "buy back program" my trusted Toyota Van for pennies:( ADVICE STAY AWAY FROM LLOYDS....don't even think about them. Went to smog my car which have AOS, air oil separator and Perrin turbo inlet hose for 2006 Subaru. Which I have passed smog with those item installed for multiple years at different service shops around the Bay Area. My car even passed everything except his "visual inspection" lol. And because of that I went to the same place I usually smog at, and he told me he cannot smog it because the other technician is marked it as modified and cannot smog without removing the inlet or get a referee number. All of that because he chooses to visually say it's modified. Going on www.Perrin.com and check the AOS and the inlet hose. They had nothing to do with smog or emissions and is normal replacement parts. He doesn't know the difference between a vacuum line and a sensor for god sake. I mentioned the suspension problems I plan on getting taken care of before the appointment, so they were aware and didn't waste any time on that. Also asked afterward if they noticed it when driving the car around the property. They actually were so honest and helpful. I have a 1997 Ford F150 four-wheel-drive pick up. I was very concerned about passing smog and on the first attempt I did not pass. They suggested I drive the car for 100 miles which I did. They tested again in the parking lot and it again did not pass. So I started using, high octane gas and drove a few hundred more miles at their recommendation and came back and it passed. This is the only trustworthy mechanic I've been able to find in Santa Cruz county. Fred really knows what he's doing. I have experience with him working on all types of cars including 2000 Jetta, 2019 Jetta, 2004 Matrix and even my beast of 1997 Chevy Silverado 2500. The Silverado was a special story bc it had sat for about a year and wouldn't turn over at all anymore. But Fred was able to bring it back from the dead. Funny part is while he was working on it he found some missing pieces from the distributor cap the last guy failed to put back on. Took my wife's Honda in to get smogged, it did not pass. Didn't really offer any help on that but whatever. Fixed the coolant thermostat and transmission fluid sensor myself. Waited a week and took it in to basically redeem the failed smog. They honored it and only paid for the tag. Try the place out. read more
