I came here to get a smog check done so that I could complete my auto registration. I called and asked if they took walk-ins or if I could only bring in my car if I had an appointment. I was happy to find out they take walk-ins. Less than 20m from arrival to departure - easiest smog check process I've ever gone through. I am happy to see that they put up a tent in the parking lot for customers to wait outside in the shade. I'm so disappointed in my latest visit. Been taking my car here for years and all of the sudden this year they say they can't pass me yet because they don't see numbers on my catalytic converter and need to "do more research." Next day guy calls me back apologetic, everything was fine but one thing they had missed was the computer reset since I just changed the battery (should have been the very first thing they did even before smog). Tells me to drive to Davenport and back to get it to reset so I did. One had reset during that time but not the other. When I got back a different guy with an eyebrow piercing was there, tells me nonchalantly I should drive it like 1000 miles to which I said, "that's not possible for me." He says, "well you're not going to get your cert then." Naturally I'm upset and get in my car to drive away and he calls out, "you know what, just go somewhere else." Yes sir, I will and I did. Guy at the next place says, "don't waist your time driving around, that's a cold start issue." 15 minutes later I have my cert. I'm furious but also grateful there is competition on just about every corner. read more

Am so sad they are out of business. Well, I was told they moved, but when I went to the new location learned they were new owners and I asked if they had historial records and he said no. "So all my history is gone?" and the guy said yes. Am confused because usually when one sells a business the records are included. What a shame. The new place might be okay, but my loyalty to Soquel Auto Repair doesn't transfer to all new folks. Shoot. On a positive note, they are taking Covid seriously. Needed to get a smog check on my old lincoln. These guys advertise a great price for older cars in the phone book. I called to see if I could get my car in, they said to get it in before 1:00 pm. My BF took the car in about 11:00 am and they said they weren't doing anymore smog, only car repairs. The BF said the man was rude, looked like a 1-person shop, and said I didn't talk to him. When I was told what happened, I called the shop back and told the man I was told until 1:00 pm. He stated they didn't do smog on Saturdays at all, just M-F. He finally admitted he did have another worker that may have given me the wrong information. Rude, I felt he had been deceitful, have no interest in doing business in this place. Took my car here for smog repair. It took them a day and a half to perform 4 hours of work. When I showed up to pick up my car, the guy scolded me for calling to check the status of my car. I'm a cancer patient, and it is extremely difficult to be without my car as I have so many medical appointments. I just can't believe the guy was so rude and lectured me for calling. I will never go here again. My car should have been ready the day I dropped it off, as I had dropped it off at 8am when they open. If it ultimately only took 4 hours to fix, why did they take over a day and a half? And the guy didn't even call to tell me my car was ready... I just showed up and it was ready. He could have called to let me know, knowing I had called several times to check the status. Lame. Rude. Inefficient. Go anywhere else. read more

I've been keeping my car in shape at Soquel Auto for over 15 years. I used to take it to Ed and when he retired I saw Fardad. Their integrity, great prices and straight-forwardness are unmatched. I had occasion to take one of my cars to a dealer because that's what someone recommended. I won't mention names but I left that dealership office and took the car into Soquel Auto Repair and was soon informed of what I DIDN'T need. That information from Soquel Auto Repair saved me $1800.00 I didn't need to (and, frankly couldn't) spend! I also had my car brought up to great running order. The folks at Soquel- but especially Fardad- have kept my expenses down and helped me negotiate a couple of the next cars I drove. All of this is to my complete satisfaction. These guys stand by what they say. Honest, honest, honest- they're an oasis in a desert of what can often be an ordeal of inflated prices, half truths and completely unnecessary expenses. I'm almost reluctant to recommend these guys- this is just so rare. But it's only fair to share! They certainly deserve it. These guys don't do "shoddy" or BS you - their regular customers, like me, all know these guys are the Real Deal- the very best. read more

I needed a smog test, and using Yelp to find the closest and best-reviewed places, I went onto Soquel Drive headed for another place. However, when I saw the $31.75 smog test sign in the driveway here, I pulled in to Soquel Auto Repair. It was about noon on a Tuesday. So glad that I did! There was nobody waiting, so Jon was able to take my car in right away. He owns the same model Subaru wagon as I do, so he was able to answer a bunch of my questions as he ran the smog check. He was both honest and professional - often with car people, you'll either get one or the other. It turns out that my smog test cost $41.75 (because I have an older car) + $8.25 for the certificate, so $50 total got me out of there with my certification. I'm pleased that I happened to come here, and will definitely return and see Jon if I need anything else done for my car. read more

This is the place to go!! I used to go to Smog Check almost next door but a smog test fail got me to find this service (see my review at Smog Check to get the whole story). Price was right ($40) and out the door in 15 minutes with a pass. This was not easy since the fail at the other location was less than an hour old. Great!!!! I will come here from now on. read more

As I have a 2005 Mercedes, this was the first time a smog check was required for auto registration renewal. Not realizing I needed a smog check, I waited to the last minute to pay my fees, then realized that I had to get a smog check ... FAST! I have found that in Santa Clara County, one typically pays $40 'out the door,' including the required certificate, but in Santa Cruz County, it runs 25% - 35% higher. I began calling places and getting quotes. I had settled on someplace, when I decided to try one more place, and that was Soquel Auto Repair. I'm so glad I did. Not only did they beat the lowest price I'd been quoted, their 'in and out' time they quoted was also significantly less than several other smog check locations I'd called. They do close at 5pm, so please don't do what I did (I showed up at 4:55pm), but the entire process was no more than 15 minutes. Great service - fast and friendly. $40 'out the door' including certificate! read more

I had to get a battery and it was after 6 pm. The employee I bought it from at the store across the way could not put it in being I have a car which the battery is below things and a bit complicated and timely procedure. He went over and asked them here if they could possibly do it for me. The stopped what they were doing. The man I bought my battery from didn't even think I'd make it home on my old battery. This was a very nice thing he did for me here. He was so nice. I was very upset about family stuff and I talked a bit too much about this and he said very nice things and even told me some cool stuff about how my car works as I watched him put my battery in. Some mechanics may have found this to be highly annoying. He even gave me back $5 of the money I offered to pay him to put my battery in! read more

Completely disappointed!! Came here because of their rave reviews and what an experience. I made an appointment specifically because I could only do this during my lunch hour. I show up and was simple told they didn't have my appointment on file and It would be well over an hour before they could even take my car. I used to take my cars down the road at smog check and they always find something wrong with my car and make it sound like they can do the repair on the spot or it will cost me much more later... Soquel Auto Repair is not only better price and checked out why my truck was not starting right. They are right next to Winchester Auto store and he let me buy the gas cap that needed to pass my truck ( $9.00) and then put it on to pass my truck. This happened at the Smog check 2 years ago and they charged me $45.00 extra!! Not only is there fee less expensive ($40.00) he tested my battery and let me know that the auto store can install it for me. My truck runs great and it all took 22 minutes!!! This is THE MOST HONEST auto mechanic I have ever found. I am a 47 year old hard working woman and this gentleman is the most honest, helpful and hard working guy I know. His assistant is the same, good, honest and hardworking. I have been bringing my car to this shop for over 7 years and have always had good results. His diagnostics are reliable and his work is solid! I feel safe and well cared for when I drive away, knowing that my car is in perfect working order. When I go to the dealer the price is always doubled and they want to to do more work than is necessary. I think this guy is fairly priced and does only what is necessary and works within your budget. This place is awesome! They are not only very helpful on the phone but in person as well. I've never felt rushed or that my questions have annoyed them. I am not car savy at all but Cesar and Johnny are always more than willing to help. I dropped my car off due to squeaky brakes and a tune up. Johnny checked my car and explained that my car was in great condition and brakes could wait a few more hundred miles. Tune up was not needed. I was blown away by the honesty and happy to save some cash. They could have easily changed them and charged me for a service that I did not need. I will definitely be bringing my cars to these guys! Doesn't Overcharge Women! I've been taking my cars to Fardad and his crew at Soquel Auto for many years. Just recently I was given a car and it needed lots of repairs. It's an old car and I asked that they not do unnecessary repairs. The crew listened and called me with their experienced input and an estimate. I got the car back and it runs great! I have never been on my own to get a smog check since my dad is normally the one to take care of my car routine check ups. I am a student at UCSC and honestly it can be hard finding a place I feel comfortably going (aka not getting ripped off). Well I needed a smog check ASAP and this place was great. Can I give a negative review please!!!!!!! So I took my car to get a smog, second person in line. Then more people come in. Needless to say my 25 min wait turned into an hour wait because they decided to help the young pretty lady with big boobs who showed up 10 min. after me instead. Now I'm understanding, things get busy. However when you mention it, it's ignored. 15 min later, still nothing being done (apparently it takes 2 people to do a smog check on the pretty girl). So I asked for my keys back. I mentioned that I've been here an hour and they were helping others before me. The co-owner (who refused his name) was a total, condescending ass. And instead of apologizing for any mix up or misunderstanding, decided to be even more of an ass. I wouldn't trust these incompetent losers with anything. These are the type of people who end up "finding more wrong" with it after they fuck up! read more

So I drove down the street and saw that Soquel Auto Repair did smog checks. I had never been there before, but it was immediately evident that this place was efficient and competent. Look, its a smog check - not swapping a transmission. These guys know what they're doing - which is customer service and - of course - getting the job done. The price was what I expected, the job was completed in a very timely manner. But it was their inherent competence and customer service that I found outstanding.
