100$ dollars for a smog check Stay away from this place, That's why the place was so empty.

Charged $90 for a smog check. After he ran the computer there were suddenly all these lights on my dash that weren't on before. Told me three different times "I didn't do anything to your car." He said those words not me. Do not recommend wish I didn't go here. I never write bad reviews but hoping it saves someone else. Sketchy vibes. read more

Great service, however I was charged $100 for a smog check, so I felt like I was ripped off... because I was.

I stopped to get gas at ocean auto service. while I was filling up with supreme gas at $4.19 a gallon, I went to clean my windshield, but there was no paper towels, so I went in and asked for them. I finished washing my windshield, and filling up, but I couldn't throw my paper towel away because there was no garbage cans. I also needed a receipt printed out, but the pump was out of paper, so I had to go back inside to get my receipt. I told the person working that for $4.19 a gallon I shouldn't have to come in to get my paper towels and to throw them away and ask for a receipt. He told me to go somewhere else if I don't like it. That is exactly what I will be doing. read more

They didn't try to up-sell me on anything, which I really appreciate because I know little about cars. Stopped to get gas and oil, walked in to get a paper "anything" so I could see how much oil I needed; asked the two mechanic 3 feet away staring at me. They just shrugged, even after I asked again, same in the store. Finally the cashier gave me a piece of toilet paper. We were in Santa Cruz for the weekend and my car decided not to start. It was a Saturday and he was able to squeeze in a diagnostic and helped us get on the road again. We had to replace the starter after realizing it was not just the battery or connection. Car troubles are never fun, but he made this go as smoothly as possible and was very knowledgeable and easy to work with. *disclaimer* i did not use their services only because we decided to get a free tow from AAA instead so this review is for their customer service* we are from san jose and were planning on having a nice relaxing day at the beach. but the universe had other plans and our car broke down in the middle of traffic right when we were coming off the 17. it started smoking and wouldn't start so my boyfriend pushed it into a motel parking lot while i steered. i looked on google maps and found ocean auto repair, called them, and they said they would just walk over to look at it. apparently there's a few problems with it and the guy was willing to help us push it to his shop to fix it but since we are broke college students, we decided to go with a free tow for right now. the guy was super helpful and really awesome to come out and give us free advice. i would have used their services if we had the funds too just because of their customer service! read more

If I could give this place 10 stars I would! I was in Santa Cruz for a girl's weekend and as we were leaving our hotel my car started funny. So before hitting the road back to SF I wanted to get my car checked. As luck would have it Ocean Auto Services was open on a holiday! I told Nguyen what happened and asked if they could just take a look at my car to let me know if it was safe to drive back to the City. Nguyen was really understanding about our situation and said he'd take a look. After starting my car a few times (the issue kept getting worse each time -yikes!) he said he had an idea of what it could be but he needed to run a diagnostic to be sure. After about an hour he called and let me know what the issue was - I needed an new alternator and battery. Not a cheap fix but again, it was my lucky day that he had the parts and time to do the repair. Not only was Nguyen up front, honest and professional but he's got heart. When I picked up my car I was so thankful he was able to do the repair. He told me his first baby was due any day now and didn't want any bad energy so he wanted to help. He also said if what happened to me happened to his daughter he'd want someone to help her too :) In all the years of owning a car I have never had such a great experience like this one. My 2005 Scion TC needed to have the catalytic converter replaced. The dealership wanted to charge 1600, almost 500 of which was just for parts. I put it off for over a year because I didn't have the cash. I finally had to give in in order to pass smog and get it registered. One shop in the Milpitas/San Jose area quoted me 1200. I'm not the kind of person who shops around for deals, but my gut told me spending over 1000 when my car ran great was wrong. Tom assured me once he ordered the part he could install it before noon the next day. It cost a little over 800. Living on the coast I expect to pay extra for most things. I was thrilled to pay the least at a local shop and not feel like I was being taken advantage of. read more

I had an auto accident near them and drove in just for a place to park and call my husband. They were very helpful and friendly and offered advice on towing and recommended an auto body place to take my car. We did not have collision insurance so my husband had them fix it just to get it drivable as a reminder to drive better. I didn't know what to expect when I went to pick it up, but figured it would not be pretty. They backed it out of the garage and I couldn't believe the front bumper looked like brand new! I would have paid thousands more if I had taken it to an auto body shop. They replaced the radiator and the headlight and made it look like new for less than $3,000.
