I can't believe I waited so long to shop at smoke city meats. The butcher was very nice and answered my questions. My son liked that they had a sign saying where the different meats came from. On this trip we got the ground beef and pork belly. The butcher was kind enough to remove the skin. The prices were very reasonable. And both meats made very delicious dinners for my family. read more

Visited Smoke City yesterday. Had an older gift card which wasn't honored because it couldn't be scanned. No expiration date on the card but had the receipt of its purchase. Butcher was great but not able to honor the card due to management. (Not honoring a simple $25.00 gift card just ticked me off.) I will not go back. Bill B read more

I'll add to the 5 star reviews...you won't find a better butcher shop or friendlier people to do business with...excellent selection of local meats, great butchers (I miss Matt but am glad Will is there, very knowledgeable and helpful); love the pimento cheese and steak butter, all the sausages, chicken and cuts of beef & pork....they will answer your questions, cut for you, do special orders and make you feel glad you are doing business there...I go at least once a week and it's always a pleasurable experience....keep up the great work! A good butcher is something that Winston-Salem was missing a few years ago, and Smoke City Meats has filled that void greatly! They have a great selection of products, and everything I have gotten there, from steaks, to chicken, to ribs, and even their spices, have been wonderful! It is not the cheapest but you are always getting a quality product and for the times we are going to have something like a steak I would much rather have something awesome like I can get at Smoke City Meats! PS. Try the Pisgah Seasoning, we used it on our Thanksgiving Turkey and it even converted some of the non turkey lovers! read more

I have so many things to say about Smoke City Meats! I wanna shout it from the rooftops! I am a huge advocate for locally and responsibly raised food, especially meat, so I was thrilled when SCM came to town. Let's be honest, it can be hard (nigh impossible) to eat COMPLETELY local/organic. I appreciate the fact that SCM makes these products accessible to the people of Winston Salem. For so long, there wasn't really a place to knock out all of your responsibly raised meat needs. SCM brings this accessibility to Winston, and thank goodness! All the farms they source from are within 100 miles of the shop - but they brought them all right here to West End, just for us. WS folks will recognize Joyce Farms, who they source their poultry from, and they also use farms in Wilkes and Caldwell county for beef and pork. You'll notice they offer an array of sauces, dry rubs, as well as local cheeses and eggs in their pantry. If you're traveling very far, it might be worth your time to call before going and ensure that the product you want is in stock. They do sell out quickly (part of keeping meat of this quality). Keep in mind, the prices may be a little higher than what you're used to seeing for grocery store level quality meats. But just trust me. You'll taste the difference. Without getting on my soapbox, it's important to be conscious about where our food is coming from! The staff are super helpful and friendly, they're happy to talk with you about the products! Great service and meat selection. If you need a certain cut, order and they will have in 3 days for you. All meats locally sourced. We decided to go fancy this year and order a Joyce Farms turkey from Smoke City Meats for Thanksgiving. My daughter is particular about meat and will opt out and eat a vegetarian diet so we decided to get a pasture raised organic Turkey that had led a happy turkey life, rather than one from a Turkey mill so that she would enjoy Turkey with us. I ordered the Turkey over the phone a few weeks before thanksgiving. I asked for a larger bird (14-16 lbs) and put a downpayment down ($50) for the order. The birds were ready for pickup around a week before, refrigerated. The Turkey turned out wonderfully delicious. We ate all the leftovers. Such a nice store located in downtown/west end of Winston Salem. Great customer service, great product. They have some ready mades that change daily, like meatloaf, Swedish meatballs, Italian meatballs, etc. fermented kraut, lusty monk mustard, and house made spice blends decorate the refrigerated shelves and countertops. read more
