Every year i buy my friend An Ashton Sampler Pack, or i grab 5 or 6 Ashton sticks for his birthday. That time has come again and it jarred my memory of last year. Moved to Matawan from Belleville, and was always close to Bergen county which has a plethora of high end cigar lounges. I always try to give local business my money so i googled and found this place a few blocks away from y house. I walked in and got a once over that would make you go look for a mirror because something HAD to be wrong with me. I was in a rush so i ignored it. I told the old man what i was looking for and he pointed in the general direction. I asked if he had any suggestion and he told me, "Get whatever you want, it's all good." I had dinner in a few so took a shot in the dark and grabbed 5 or 6 different cigars. I went up to pay and i swear by the look on his face, he didn't even want me to spend my money there. I've never experienced such bad vibes and energy from someone whose establishment I was making a purchase at. i could have given my 90 dollars to someone who appreciated my business. Stay away, this guy needs an attitude adjustment. ASAP! read more

My father who's 74 received a gift card and had to go back 4 times because nobody knew how to redeem it including the person who it was purchased from. We got screamed and cursed at the 3rd time we were there so my father went back the next day hoping someone else would be there. They finally let him use his gift card that was only purchased 3 weeks prior. After he was able to use the gift card and bought some cigars a really short mean old man yelled and cursed at him and told him to get the f**k out and threw his change and cigars on the ground. (You can't make this shit up) I own a retail shop and can't ever imagine treating someone like that. I hope they go out of business there's so many choices of great places to go nearby. read more

They have a decent selection and I've purchased from here a few times. However, I called earlier tonight to ask if they had a specific cigar in stock and the gentleman on the phone responded "well ya gotta go look." Paused for a second and the asked me again which cigar it was. I gave him the brand as well as which cigar it was and what the band looked like. He replies "I think we have it but it's too late for you to come anyway." Mean while they close in about an hour. I'm sure they will do just fine without my business but I won't be going there any time soon. read more

Was out doing wine tour in area and decided to find a cigar lounge nearby. Hard to find place tucked in strip mall. Humidors was weirdly stocked. No complete brand lines, random boxes, cheapo cigars, looked like they bought cigars from catalog at CI. When I went to the cash register with 2 cigars, I was told that I "wouldn't be allowed to smoke in the lounge if I didn't buy at least a $15 cigar" Really? Why stock so many shit cigars then? Great way to interest a new customer into to wanting to smoke there (sarcasm). Also, owner directed all his commentary to my male companion only. Very unfriendly, small lounge with no class. this place's smell is infesting the walls of nearby businesses, including some amazing local restaurants. it is a huge problem that has been neglected and unaddressed for years. you can smell this place from the minute you enter this plaza. it is a major concern. i have no problem with smoke shops in general, but Smoker's Haven needs to contain the potent smell coming from their building. it is affecting nearby businesses by ruining the look of the whole plaza and driving away customers. the lack of concern from this business is shocking. read more

If I could give negative 5 stars I would. I pulled up to the store at 6:55pm, there was man at the cash register staring at me. So I assumed they were open. I headed to open the door he walked around hit the light switch to off and said we are closed. I told him I knew what I wanted and I would be quick. The man replied "We close at 7:00pm, are you paying cash he asked?" I looked at my phone it was 6:56pm I said I do not have cash on me, it's only 6:56pm, come on". He replied "Then go." I asked one more time please, he then replied get the F@€$ out of here." I said what I had to say, because your not going to talk that way to me, I let him know I will never come back to this place again. He replied "don't ever come back" and gave me the finger. I went to this smoke shop twice a week for a few weeks spending A LOT of money. And every time I was greeted with nastiness and anger. I myself was polite and cordial every time. I will never go back to this god awful place and I would advice others not to go either. I was nothing but polite to them and on multiple occasions was talked down to and insulted for no good reason other than someone being unhappy with their career as cigar store clerk and taking out their life and career frustrations on me. Lighthouse cigars just down the road is a much better place with polite, civilized staff. Go there!! read more

I just don't know what it is about this place. This is now my third time visiting. They rarely ever have the cigars that I am looking for and I just don't get the feeling that my business is appreciated. I would really suggest that you try to be a little bit more friendly and outgoing with your customers. I'm sorry but this will be the last time I come here. read more

So rude! I called to ask if they had the filters I needed, they told me they did, I said "ok, because I was in there yesterday and..." He cut me off and said "lady, I'm really busy, I can't sit here and talk to you on the phone" needless to say, I went there 5 min later, he was watching tv, and ofcorse didn't have what I was looking for.. I purchased 10 Romeo Y Julieta - Museum Cigars from this merchant for $18/each and I was excited since every other vendor in the US was selling the same cigar for $27 -$33 each. It was too good to be true. Once I brought the cigar home, opened the first Cigar and it had molds all over it, then opened the rest of them to find the same. I called the merchant and told him about the problem and he pleaded with me to dust off the mold assuring that it was not harmful and perfectly normal and I should at least try to smoke one and if i did not like it i can bring them back. I tried and it tasted horrible and it was difficult to puff and felt like as if they were wet and it was painful to my chest to take a puff, so I stopped. I brought the cigars back to the merchant and asked for a full refund but he decided to keep the cigars and told me that he had a NO RETURN policy and I was free to pick out other cigars. After such a horrible experience, I had no faith in this merchant and it became clear to me that he was trying to pass some bad cigars to me. So i left his store without any refund and lost $192.60 in the process. read more
