Oh... my... goodness!!! Smokes in London Ontario is just wonderful! If you love poutine, they have it. They also have several variations that include different meats mixes in with the basic poutine at Smokes. The place is really cool! A little bit of seating, but great food and great prices. I had a poutine with bacon. It was amazing. As an American, poutine isn't our thing, but it should be. I swear we are missing out over here. I would die for a good poutine place here. My American might be showing, but "Poutineries" should totally be a thing in the states. I love this stuff! I first discovered Smoke's in Toronto last year. When I knew I'd be in the London area, I made sure to check for a Smoke's before getting here. How can one deny himself bacon cheeseburger poutine?! That's worth clogging an artery or three. Bonus is the 80's rock theme and background music. Any place that includes Trixter on its play list is ok my book. Although I didn't try it (too many choices), the Hangover poutine sounds amazing! I love this poutine shop being the meat lover that I am. I think anyone who rates this place anything lower than 5 stars is a bacon hater. If you hate bacon, well... Bacon hates you too and you don't deserve to be here. Lol Bacon cheeseburger poutine- wow! So much meat. Although not enough curds in my opinion. It has cheeseburger meat, bacon, and cheddar cheese. Delicious!!! Triple pork poutine- pulled pork, bacon, and sausage. This one is super delicious too and super meaty. My only beef with this place is that there's not enough cheese curds otherwise amazing combination of flavor. Tip: Sriracha takes poutine to another level. Poutine has always been good. I ordered from uber eats and couldn't be more disappointed. The poutine was still delicious but they put the smallest bit of sour cream on my pierogis, considering I didn't get the bacon you'd think they'd put more sour cream. But nope! Stingy. I enjoyed this meal quite a bit. I haven't had a great poutine in awhile, especially in this area. I'm somewhat of a poutine snob growing up as a French Canadian but this one made the cut. Hahaha this place is great! My son and I visited Dec- 26th at like 10 pm while traveling back to the US. I had such a fun vibe. 4 students (I assume) we huddled around one large order and seemed so happy. We ordered a lot of food 3 large orders One with pirogies, one with bacon and ranch and one plain. We want to be able to take some home. We had ALOT of left overs. And really you can't ruin poutine. But this particular place was open late and on a Sunday. 2 days later when I gave my cousin what I had brought back it was still good! This is a must try must see. Staff was "sluggish" like the four other diners! Which made this a fun and unique experience. read more

Fries & gravy taken to a whole other level... I am neither an expert nor a connoisseur of poutine. 1/2 of my fam is Canadian and I've heard them mention this dish before. The classic base is 'home cut' (and super crispy) french fries covered in gravy & sprinkled with 'squeeky' cheese curds. At Smoke's you have a lot of options which to add on. I ended up with pulled pork, sausage AND bacon (I was carrying my portable defibrillator that day). My partner in crime decided on some crzy combo with marinara (which she later regretted). The small orders are super huge, more than enough for two people. The large order could feed me for three days. Despite usually eating Smoke's after a night at the bar it is delicious poutine. I enjoy the different variations from the standard fries, cheese curds, gravy combination. My personal favourite was the "Perogie poutine". Standard poutine base, loads of bacon, potato and cheese perogies and sour cream. This was 100% my dream poutine combination. The bacon cheeseburger is also up there on my must eat list. The addition of ground beef, cheese sauce and bacon is a must for any meat eater. A must eat for when you need some greasy after bar food. I ordered a traditional poutine. It was really really bad. I can say without a doubt that it was the worst poutine I have ever had the displeasure of eating. There was very little cheese turds. The gravy was almost nonexistent. I cannot recommend this place at all. Avoid this place, and spend your money elsewhere. I could not even eat my poutine. I stopped by here in the evening to get some fries. They were pretty busy and appeared to be short staffed, but the person taking orders and cooking was making the best of it. I ordered a wow size veggie nacho poutine and I really liked what I got. The guacamole and sour cream was a great addition and it added another taste to the fries. The jalapeños on top gave it a kick too. I liked my order and the taste of the ingredients. I'll be back to explore the menu more. read more

Smoke's poutinerie is probably one of the simpliest idea's for a fast food place/diner, all it is, is poutine. but done right and done in so many different ways you won't even know what to decide to get! There's so many different options as to how to have your poutine it makes you wonder why you didn't think about putting bacon on your poutine before. Came in on a Saturday night around dinner time and it was packed! We managed to find a seat inside to eat our poutine's, but there was a steady line-up and growing the whole time we were there. Service was very quick and efficient we got our two poutine's in no time! and also very friendly. Now onto the poutine itself. They serve it in a big almost Chinese take-out food style box, and pack the thing full of fries! I mean a small poutine is enough to satisfy almost anyone's hunger. I tried a hog town poutine which comes with bacon, sausage, carmalized onions, and mushrooms all on top of a poutine. Yeah talk about heart attack in a box, but it's soo amazingly good! The fries are fresh cut and just how I like them with the skins still on a deepfried to perfection! The gravy that they use seems to be on the lighter side (not calories, just colour) but it still tastes amazing as well and compliments the fries and big chunks of cheese just like a poutine should be! I was actually pretty disappointed, especially given the hype. I ordered a Philly cheese steak poutine, and the fries were only OK. They were soggy... The onions were quite good, but there were only three strips of steak, and it's pretty hard to get anything but only a hunk of meat with those bites. I'm hoping to try a different poutine sometime, to change my mind, but my wife's butter chicken one wasn't a lot better. Still mediocre, soggy fries. read more

Got the bacon poutine because what could be better than two great things that should be great together right? Wrong!! While this place is great in concept it's the execution that leaves you with an awful taste in the mouth (literally). I got the bacon poutine and opted for veggie gravy because I'd been hearing around that the regular gravy was way way too salty (also since I was having pork..hello salty meat! I wanted to avoid that) All you could taste was the sodium to the point of wanting to throw up half way through. Honestly, I thought how on earth could you mess up a Canadian Classic such a poutine but I found out by eating here. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but I am uncertain of what I ate at Smoke's Poutinerie on Friday. I ordered the Country Style which piles on chicken, bacon, mushrooms & caramelized onions as toppings. Those four flavours by themselves would've been sufficient, but together? My, my it was overwhelming. But wait! There's suppose to be poutine in there somewhere!! I dug deeper to taste just the fries and then tried a forkful of everything. The fries I liked, the gravy not so much (weak flavour, watery) & the curds were significantly melted and sticking to random fries, so that was good. But the everything bite? Too much. Just...too much. I ordered a small and could not finish it, mostly because of the grease overload. Eating the chicken pieces by themselves reminded me of KFC chicken (ick), which was odd as there is no breading or 11 herbs & spices visible on the cubes. I liked the mushrooms, though. If I went back, I would probably just add mushrooms to the basic poutine or *maybe* try the pulled pork (which was going to be my first choice...should've went with my gut...it probably knew I could've saved it some grief...heh). I'll probably stay away for awhile, though. Unless I was drunk (I can see the post-bar appeal). But I'd probably stumble to Sammy's instead. read more

This place is exclusively poutine. Want plain fries? Tough. Hot dog on the side? No way. Just the chili? Forget it. You're here for poutine, so you're gonna eat poutine. OK they also have soda. I've now had both the traditional veggie, and deluxe veggie. Both were absolutely awesome. The traditional poutine is: nice, crispy fries cut just a bit thinner than what's usual on offer; gravy that tastes 'real' - its flavour beyond the usual salt+fat; and real cheese curds that have a nice amount of fresh squeak when you bite into them. The veggie gravy tastes to me like a mushroom base. In any case it's as good a veggie gravy as I've ever had. The deluxe veggie adds sauteed mushrooms and onions, plus some peas. Mushrooms and onions had a nice caramelized taste, and went well with the gravy. Peas on top were probably just your usual frozen green giant kind, but gave the whole thing a nice contrast. I'm not usually a fan of these poutine mash-ups, so the deluxe did surprise me. Some of the other options include pulled pork, nacho toppings, chili, bacon and sausage. The regular size is huge and made for a good-sized lunch (I use the word "good" here in the most liberal sense. This ain't health food baby). The large would be good for sharing, or if you're really hungry and have a doctor's note confirming no pre-existing heart condition. Expect to spend about $8 per person if you get a drink. Not cheap but definitely a cut above your usual greasy spoon fries, fake gravy and shredded cheese. read more

Very good poutine, and it is authentic. I grew up in Eastern Ontario, and am addicted to real poutine from Kingston, Ottawa and Montréal. Let me tell something to the rest of Ontario, including London: grated cheddar on fries IS NOT poutine! Don't call it that on your menu! Smoke's is real poutine. I only get the traditional, classic kind; I don't mess with perfection. No, not as good as Montréal, but way better than anything else in Southern Ontario. The cheese is squeaky. If you're into poutine, you know what that means. It's a sign of fresh and proper cheese curds; poutine with squeaky cheese is rare outside of Quebec. Thumbs up, Smoke! Now please don't close on me. Came here first after a night of drinking on Richmond row and to also have my first try to poutine. I went with the small bacon poutine which was enough to feed two. The poutine was good, my only two problems with it was that it didn't have enough gravy and the fries were soft. It was still good however and I also like the fact that they offer about 12-15 different types/styles of poutine. I would come again. read more

Great place to get a quick bite (not that quick for me, since I eat slow) after a night out, especially after going to Jack's. They are like a store apart, I think so it's conveniently located as well. Note: I only go there after drinking, so my tastebuds and memory might be questionable. I always get the regular poutine and I think it's fine. Then again, I'm no poutine expert and haven't tried it in Montreal (up next!) My first poutine experience! My Toronto-native friends took me here last December. The place was manned by ONE guy. Felt bad for him as 6 of us came in to order. Good comfort food, good price for a LARGE amount of food, and lots of options. Fries, gravy, and cheese curds...what a delicious combination! I split the philly cheese steak option with a friend, but I kinda regret it...I wish I got the simpler, classic, veggie toppings. Cheese on top of cheese was a gooey mistake. I tried my other friends' poutines like Mama's or peppercorn, and they were yummy! I wish I knew more places in the US that served poutine to the masses like Smoke's...the only places I've heard of thus far are expensive and upscale. This is THE place to be after a good night out. Forget about shawarma, pizza and greasy chinese...poutines are the best way to soak up the night's poison. Smoke's does poutines proud by having fresh fries and real cheese curds! They really squeak between your teeth and melt with the yummy goodness of the delicious gravy. I shared a small Hogtown with my friend after some St. Paddy's day fun and it was the perfect ending to a great night. Sausage, bacon and caramelized onions...can't life get any better? Since when Smoke's Poutinerie has became so lame? Got a lukewarm poutine when I was the only customer in the store. Questioned that and they offered me a new one with very little cheese and like a split of gravy. That's probably explain why no one was eating there during the dinner time. I got two poutines a Montreal, and I think it was called triple pork poutine. The Montreal was gross. I think it was some slice ham, a pickle, mustard on top of the fries, gravy, and cheese curds. Again gross. Now the triple pork poutine was good. It had a load of bacon, pulled pork, and sausages. Yum! Gravy was a little too salty and although they use fresh cut fries, the fries were soggy, pretty sure they were sitting out for some time.. This place, minus the Montreal one could be really good if they address some of the above issues. I will be coming back to try the other poutines. Get rid of the Montreal poutine please.. read more

Absolutely amazing poutine!!! Just recently moved here from Calgary and heard about this place before doing so, and so wanted to try it out, and after about a month, finally was able to do so. I'm a bigger guy with a big appetite, so I got a triple pork (bacon, pulled pork and sausage) and WOW. The first night I had it, I could NOT believe how much bacon alone was piled on top of this. Just for the bacon alone, you'd be paying as much as the poutine costs, to make it at home by buying from a food store. Tons of shredded pork and sausage pieces as well, loads of cheese curds and tons of gravy! I was starving that night, and I couldn't finish it. I've since been back 3 times, one day I purposely didn't eat anything, because I knew I was going there. I barely finished the large size with a growling tummy, it's ~that~ much food. There are many selections of various types on their menu, although there isn't a great explanation of their gravy choices anywhere, or which one has what gravy, so I stick with what I know I'll like :) Being a newer place, apparently, it's quite small, there's a few tables, and a bar type setting along the front window. The restaurant is always very clean, the staff is always very friendly, happy, and helpful. Of the 4 times I've been there, it's not been steadily busy, but people go in and out ~every~ single time I've been there, usually one after the other, so it's a constant flow. Much like with pizza places, your toppings and how much you really get, would be dependent on who is cooking/taking orders that day. Some of them follow the likely guidelines a bit closer, but even then, it's still a lot of toppings and a lot of food! And thankfully, this place isn't like everywhere else, dabbling in everything they can (like subway having pizzas....wtf??), it's STRICTLY Poutine, and for that, I am thankful. I will be going there regularly, and hopefully they are able to branch out to bigger locations, and eventually cross country if they choose to do so, as it's something any poutine lover should experience. read more
