    Strawberry banana pancakes
    Kristie W.

Large portions for a reasonable price, and a throwback diner feel, but the food did not impress. The Strawberry Banana Pancakes were soggy, crumbly, and very sweet with the regular syrup and the "strawberry topping". My favourite part of the dish was the fresh sliced bananas. The Southwestern Eggs Benedict were mediocre. The Hollandaise sauce was one dimensional, and the toppings including the peameal bacon were not exciting. It could have had more capers and seasoning, and maybe a slice of tomato. The homestyle "fries" tasted essentially like boiled sliced potatoes that were then coated in a lot of oil, and did not have the usual crispy delight of fries.

My mom's visiting me this weekend and we decided to go out for breakfast this morning. I remembered that this was formally Malibu restaurant, but they recently renovated and opened a Wimpy's Diner and I had never been, so we decided to go and it was a great decision. We walked in an initially were seated under a cooling vent, and asked if we could move, luckily we were able to. Browsed the menu as the waitress came over to take our order. There is a lot to choose from, I eventually chose the Mediterranean omelette with brown toast and home fries, my mom ordered a build your own wrap with peameal bacon, feta cheese and onion. Our meals came out in really good time, and the coffee was hot, everything was delicious too. I love when the home fries are sliced and have a really good flavour too them. I wasn't able to finish all of it, so we brought it home. My mom really enjoyed her wrap, and that she got to choose what to put in it. The theme to the restaurant is 50's style with a bunch of super hero posters, 50's style posters like betty boop, iron man, superman, etc. The decorations were cool and brought the whole restaurant to life with the bright colour theme too. What a great restaurant with great food and a unique theme to bring more people in to enjoy good food and good company.

    Early Bird Special

A friend and I decided to stop by on a snowy morning for brunch. The interior is very retro and cool! I love the decorations on the walls, the booths, and the overall feel of this place is fun! It took a while for us to be seated even though the restaurant wasn't too busy at this point. Eventually, a staff came and sat us down. 1 issue I noticed immediate: we sat quite close to the windows and we were freezing! This place needs to turn the heat up. The menu is very large, and offers basic breakfast and brunch items. The prices are decent, but the add-ons (eg. chocolate chips, whipped cream, etc.) are overpriced. We both ordered the Early Bird Special (only available before 10am) which came with eggs, bacon, potatoes and pancakes. The food took a long time to come out, but once it did, it was hot and fresh! The pancakes are huge! And very fluffy. The eggs are pretty small, but I'm used to getting small eggs at restaurants. The bacon was perfection - nice and crispy. But the potatoes were under seasoned and underdone. I finished a majority of my meal, and took home a pancake. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Wimpy's. The place is clean, the menu is extensive, and staff are friendly. I will definitely return when I have the chance and try one of their burgers - they seem epic!

I had the breakfast and literally everything was cold but the eggs and sausage and of course the cold dry potatoes had someone's hair on it.

I ordered a Waldorf Chicken sandwich and needed some help to pick it. The owner was really helpful to walk me through what to expect in the order and I narrowed it down. I was really happy with the sandwich. It was crunchy, warm, and savoury. The store was well stocked and of course empty given the health precautions in place. I hope to be back sometime in the future.

A friend of mine had also discovered this and decided to go in for coffee, so after that I ventured in for lunch. It was the best decision I made that day. The ambiance of this place was filled with the feeling you were in a busier city, but you're not. I was greeted right away, and I knew what sandwich I wanted, and was given a choice on what toppings I could choose as well as the soups they have fresh made daily and types they had for that day. For lunch, I ordered The New Yorker, which was smoked salmon and cream cheese. I had it on a toasted whole wheat bagel, with their dill and cucumber cream cheese, smoked salmon, cucumber and sprouts (you know it's a good lunch deli when they have sprouts!), It was absolutely delicious and the smoked salmon was so flavourful. I had ordered this with a soup and a drink. The total came to around $13 for the whole meal, but it was absolutely worth it. They also have gift cards, sandwich and coffee cards with the most clever design on it. I am recommending this place to everyone and I know I'll be coming back for lunch. I should have stopped in sooner!

Staff are always…read morefriendly and welcoming - but its the sandwiches that really keep me coming back every time I'm in Stratford. The newest location is right by the river - with lots of public parking across the street. Beautiful old building and a nicer overall decor than the previous spot. Still colourful - with cool drawings of their famous sandwiches on the walls. Lots on offer, but really, who am I kidding? "Mennonite sandwich, please" is what I said - and what you better say if you know what's good for ya. That delicious summer sausage, fresh corn relish with a subtle but delicious kick of spice. The cheddar - classic taste - nice slice - just how I like it. Definitely not processed cheese. The fresh country white bread - melt in your mouth but still with a crunchy brown crust. MMMMMMMMMennonites seem to have the secret of sandwich making down pat. This is the kind of sandwich that puts hair on your chest...What's that joke - why do Mennonite boys grow beards? Because they want to look just like their moms! Lol a bit off side maybe there - but my point is simple - a hearty, tasty sandwich - one of the best and most classic available in Ontario. Get out there and grab a few. The baking is also delicious!!

Fab! The best sandwiches in Stratford! At INCREDIBLE prices, too!!!…read more Check out the checklist-style takeout menu: http://www.yorkstreetkitchen.com/YSKSandwichmenu.pdf Most of my friends are huge fans of the Mennonite Sandwich. I enjoy the Othello (sans pesto, of course) but most often create-my-own. Last time I was there I had local goats cheese (swoon-inducing) on multigrain (OMG freshly-baked and so so so good) with alfalfa sprouts, tomatoes, cucumbers, avocados, lettuce, roasted sweet red peppers, honey mustard (made by local mennonites!) & mayo. I always add the "deli dills" - I'm pretty sure they're local mennonite too. Needless to say, PHENOMENAL. They also have THE MOST AMAZING 4-bean salad. Try it. Trust me. I don't even LIKE bean salad all that much... this one converted me. Really. GET IT. They lose a star because it's time to fix the service. It takes waaay too long to get your food, and that's true whether you eat in or order from the take-out window. Service is a bit better for breakfast, but still nothing to rave about. Expect to wait 20-30 minutes for your food. The kitchen & waitstaff are unfortunately more often than not visibly frazzled/stressed. I have been here for breakfast a bunch of times, as well as dinner once or twice. I LOVE LOVE LOVE their jam - "moss berry" - never heard of it before or since! For dinner, I've had the Spinach, Marinated Mushroom, Red Onion and Goat Cheese Pizza ($6.50) as well as the Caramelized Broccoli, Red Onion and Ricotta Stuffed Pasta Shells baked in a our slow-cooked Tomato Sauce ($13.95). Both VERY yummy. Their breakfast burrito is legendary. I must recommend it as your first breakfast expedition at YSK. For meat-eaters, try the peameal bacon. LOCAL PORK FACTOIDS: A note on peameal bacon + Stratford: this is prime peameal bacon territory. If you don't make it to YSK, try to get to the Stratford Farmer's Market where you will find a chuckwagon of sorts vending DREAMY peameal bacon sandwiches. OMG. AMAZING. Perth County produces some of the best pork in the country. If you're passing through Shakespeare on the way to Stratford (or back - it's just east of Stratford), make a stop at "The Best Little Pork Shoppe", which is certainly NOT little. Check it out: http://www.porkshoppe.com/ Last interesting pork fact? The Annual Ontario Pork Congress happens in Stratford too. Just one more point in proof that Stratford is THE place to be eating pork. Which I don't, to clarify. I've been a veghead for 13 years now. But I have juicy childhood memories of Saturday mornings at the market with my Dad eating peameal bacon sandwiches with LOCAL bacon, LOCAL cheddar cheese, FRESHLY-CHURNED LOCAL butter on a FRESHLY-BAKED kaiser bun. FOR REAL. Back to TSK breakfast. I've also had the French Toast with local maple syrup and some sort of homemade apple-pie-filling-type side (INCREDIBLE) and the H.M.S. Pinafore Breakfast Sandwich (toasted bagel with that gorgeous local goat cheese, smoked salmon, tomato, onion & lettuce) is worth a try too! So basically, if you're looking for a unique, personality-filled, delicious place for breakfast, brunch or lunch, HEAD HERE!
