It felt necessary to visit Smoke's as someone who wanted to come to Toronto and eat all the poutiene. The potatoes were the highlight for me here. As the gravy was a little thin and the bacon was even thinner. Still I scarfed down the meal like some kinda gremlin. Love the vibe and the ability to mix-and-match. Place is cute. Found it odd that They opened at 3, we got there at 3:15 and the cans were almost full and there was garbage on the ground under a table. We ordered the poutine with curds and the curds were so rubbery that they squeaked on my teeth when I chewed. I actually laughed because I have no idea how that can even happen. This place is such a vibe. The people were super nice and friendly, an overall pleasure to speak with. My friend and I were just passing by on our way to Niagara Falls and were hungry so we chose this place for lunch. We got 2 different poutines, onion rings, and a bunch of sauces. The poutine was good, cheese was a little too squeaky, and all the toppings and sauce was just on top. Overall the food was good, not amazing. Update: went back and I gave them another star as the parking situation was a bit better then the last time. Smokes is a guaranteed good meal! As someone who lives in the states and not able to have a more regular poutine, this chain 2 years ago was my first real try of traditional. I enjoyed my first time trying it so visiting again and why not! The overall location of the place is why I gave 3 stars. On maps it takes in a weird way so I ended up driving into lots that said I couldn't park and then finally down something that wasn't parking nor suppose to be there. The place is off the beaten path. Seems like this was a more downtown late night area but some of the people out you could tell where in the area to eat. After getting in the place, it is pretty clean and only one group in line in front of us. Ordered 2 orders of traditional. Was pretty good overall. Plenty of gravy and cheese. Could have been a little warmer. There are a bunch of different types there. Like philly cheese poutine. Sounds good and asked how it is. Was informed if you like a philly then it's gonna be pretty good lol. Guy was funny at the register. Overall only thing that got stars knocked off was the location and ease to find parking. Also they will take american money but they do not do exchange rate. You if it's 24.99 in Canada dollars then if you pay in American cash it's gonna be 24.99. read more

Very friendly staff. We came on a Friday evening and the wait wasn't too long. My goal was to have poutine in Canada and this accomplished it! I had the butter chicken poutine and loved it! The meal size was a bit too large for me for dinner, but I'm excited to have it for leftovers later. I tried my first poutine here and honestly, I think it's over rated. But, I feel like this is a great place to try it out. The employees were really helpful. When we walked in, they were cutting the potatoes into 'fries' with a machine. So cool!!! The poutine was great. But I doubt I'll seek it out again. read more

If your driving looking for traditional Canadian poutine don't bother stopping here as you could easily get better poutine while at Costco in the food court for almost half the price, and that's not saying much. The gravy was tasteless and the cheese was limited. The real reason to avoid though is the area is an absolute DUMP and the service is HORRIBLE. If you like walking through open garbage in front of the restaurant and like dealing with screaming vagrants and tweekers around there then this is the place for you. The hired help fits right into the area and she emanates the self absorbed nasty attitude of some of today's service people. Don't ask or question the price or they will get incensed and tell you in no uncertain terms that "they don't make the prices, they just work there." A great representation of someone who thinks they are doing you a favor when they should be doing their job that they are getting paid for. Stopped by while passing through for poutine. It was my girlfriend's first time in Canada and trying poutine. Smokes was a bit strange to get to with the tiny road to the shop. Inside we enjoyed the sight of the employees cutting up the potatoes for fries and knowing things were fresh. Service was friendly and helpful. I was super happy to see multiple vegetarian options. Nice authentic Canadian Poutine. The heart of Saint Catherine's. We drove for half an hour in an epic snowstorm just to get some real Canadian poutine. Now that's dedication to food! Best find yet! Great price, unbelievable combinations of poutine. Had the bacon cheese burger with jalapeños. It was a suggested favorite of the chef and great advice. Infinite choices of topping and combination. Also sampled the classic and they knock it out of the park as well! Went to Smokes with my husband and two children. My kids are weird so they don't like poutine so we were happy that Smokes has popcorn chicken. We went in and ordered the Philly and Nacho poutines for us adults and a large popcorn chicken for the kids to share. There is no dine in so we went to the car to eat our meal. Once we opened the popcorn chicken box we realized we were given the popcorn chicken poutine. The tears started to well up in the kids eyes lol. I figured it's our fault for not ordering more specifically so I went back in to order an additional plain box of chicken. When the cashier realized what happened she made me a box of it on the house and even refunded the difference of the popcorn chicken poutine!! Totally unnecessary but greatly appreciated . The amount of food I can eat after a night out is DISGUSTING. Smoke's is always there to help me accomplish that. After the bar if you don't want to get a pita (which I don't), you go to Smoke's Poutinery. And then you get the WOW size... and eat the WHOLE thing. Whatever... it probably lessens the hangover and my boyfriend helped me eat it. The staff here is so funny... or maybe everything is just funny at that time. But anyways, they know you've been drinking and they don't care, they have fun with it. What I tried: Philly Cheese Steak Poutine. Made with steak, not ground beef (thank god), tonnes of cheese, fries, onions, peppers, mushrooms, and more cheese on top of that. It was almost life changing. I had high expectations but the poutine was rather unremarkable. The gravy was the best part a solid three star. The fries, nothing special, but also a 3/5. I would have liked a little more flavour and crispness there. The curds were a 1 star - refrigerator cold and they never melted at all. Overall, not great, not horrible, but rather bland. Also lack of parking is a pain, but there is paid street parking available. Always served very hot and fresh by friendly staff! Service is decent - nothing that stands out but still nice. They don't usually give recommendations based on the countless options available. If it's your first visit, don't be surprised if it takes you 10+ minutes to decide what you want! No vegan or vegetarian options (the gravy is on everything) so I will not return, only for the reason that I am now vegan. Great choice for any non-vegan or vegetarians. read more
